New fragrances from Colette & shopping notes

Posted by Robin on 1 September 2005 14 Comments

Curated by Colette fragrance trioThe Curated by Colette trio of fragrances that I mentioned briefly back in July goes on sale September 26 at Colette. Each fragrance is a limited edition run of 300 bottles only. Bois de Jasmin reviewed the As4 fragrance recently, and I can add little to Victoria's review except that I adore this fragrance: a cross between Yuzu Rouge and a gin & tonic in the top notes, and a lovely and long lasting woody iris dry down with vetiver and musk. I have not tried the other two fragrances, but please comment if you have! Update: see a review of Curated by Colette Three As4.

Also coming to Colette: a trio of lemon-based fragrances from Japanese designer Irié, each created for a different time of day: 09h25, 15h10 and 20h50. (via newsletter from Colette)

New at beautyhabit: Menard L'Eau de Kasaneka, created in collaboration with Japanese artist Shozo Shimada and released in 2004. Kasaneka features notes of bergamot, orange, Japanese rose, jasmine, basil, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, ylang ylang, heliotrope, carnation, ambrette seed, sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, vanilla, and musk. (via beautyhabit and osmoz) Other new items at beautyhabit: the Prince Jardinier line and L'Aromarine in 1.6 oz sizes. Use code EXTRACTS to get two L'Aromine perfume extracts with any purchase of $75 or more, good through 9/15.

Jo Malone will release her next fragrance, Pomegranate Noir, in October. It will feature notes of raspberry, plum, pink pepper, patchouli, frankincense and spicy woods. (via cosmeticnews) Update: see a review of Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir.

New from Kenzo: Kenzo Air Intense, a fragrance for men by nose Maurice Roucel with notes of bergamot, anise, cumin, angelica, vetiver, woods and amber. (via osmoz)

R, As4 sounds so lovely, I´m really thinking about ordering unsniffed…Do you think I´d like it?

S, I am very tempted to buy it myself. Did you read V's review on Bois de Jasmin? It does have a kind of metallic, high pitched edge…that is what I would call the “gin & tonic” accord, and it does last into the early part of the dry down. I think it is glorious but don't know that it would suit everyone.

In other words, I refuse to be held responsible if you hate it, LOL!

R, Okay, okay, so I won´t call my lawyer if I hate it ;D! Yes, I read V´s review, she made me want to have it ;D I emailed Colette, but they told me they won´t have samples – that´s at least what I´ve been told. I would like to smell the other 2 scents as well – they seem to be interesting, too, but regarding the notes I´m not sure if I´d like them.

The other two didn't attract me as much either. Let me know what you think if you buy the As4! I really might have to have a bottle too.

I must try the new Jo Malone (you know why!), but shouldn't there be some “Pomegranate” note in there? Or does pomegranate not really have a scent…. hmmm…..

I´m just worrying that it may have a sharp note…But with metallic you don´t mean sharp, do you? Gin Tonic isn´t sharp either – at least not for me ;) It´s cool & a bit sour/sparkling.

Kasaneka catches my eye, for sure. Okay, so like 90% of it is the bottle – I don't think I will ever quite overcome my bottle fetish. But the notes sound rather inviting, even if not quite the most original composition. Oh well, things don't need to be exotic or new to smell good, that's for sure. Thanks Robin!

Well, the citrus is a tad sharp right at the start, but after that I wouldn't call it sharp exactly, but zingy-metallic (?) There aren't enough words in English to describe specific smells!

LOL — you are more awake than I am today, I didn't even notice that! Perhaps they assume it will be understood that there is pomegranate in there…

It is a pretty bottle! Someone will get a sample & post about it on one of the fragrance boards, so I will wait & see :-)

What is the relationship, if any, between these and Eau de Colette? Please?

L, not sure I understand the question…Colette makes the Eau de Colette, and the Curated by Colette limited edition trio, is that all you were asking?

Oh, I'm not sure either. I suppose the EdC was created by an altogether different nose from the trio? Just wondered if there was any stylistic connection, I guess.

Oh, I gotcha. No connection. The “curated” part of “Curated by Colette” is serious: each of the 3 was created by a designer (As4, Bless, Hussein Chalayan) working with a Symrise nose (Frank Voelkl for As4, the latter two are by Marc Buxton). I don't think there is any stylistic relationship even between the 3 in the trio, much less the trio & the Eau de Colette, but then, I also don't know who the nose for Eau de Colette was.
