More on the Guerlain flagship renovations

Posted by Robin on 24 May 2005 22 Comments

As previously reported, Guerlain is renovating their flagship store on the Champs Elysées, and they are releasing some of their old fragrances in limited editions. In addition to the fragrances mentioned in the post linked to above, they will be releasing 3 new scents by Francis Kurkdjian, Daniela Andrier and Olivier Polge, and a new Baby Guerlain line. (via parfumessence) It is rumored that the Baby Guerlain line was created by Olivia Giacobetti, and that the 3 new scents will be called Angélique Noire (Daniela Andrier), Cuir Beluga (Olivier Polge), and Rose Barbare (Francis Kurkdjian). Still no word on how widely available all these fragrances will be.

Hope these aren't so limited that they'll be gone in October, my next leap to Paris.

Sounds really exciting, all these relaunches!

Gosh, I hope so too! Let me know when you start taking lists of CPs, LOL. Although I am waiting anxiously to see how much they are asking for Guerlinade, and if you have to buy a vat to get any at all.

Somewhere I have some Guerlinade. Will check. As for cps, only for you. Period.

No — thanks, but don't check, I have some too! Just worried for my future, LOL. Also hoping some of those other scents that I haven't tried are going to go into general circulation (e.g. start appearing on swap lists).

Good heavens, who's spraying perfumes on babies? Don't babies smell good enough? I mean, when their diapers are clean, of course.

I am looking forward to the new Guerlains! Sincerely hope I like them more than L'Instant. I always hang such high hopes for Guerlain, even though I can't wear most of them. Oh, well.

It puzzles me too. Babies smell wonderful. But there are so many baby perfumes now that I can only assume they sell well. Maybe they are all bought for presents, or maybe the Moms wear them? Dunno.

Someone should also bottle what my son smells like when he gets home from kindergarten every day: a fresh mixture of paint, paste, and mulch from the playground.

L'Instant is pretty but not my thing, and didn't strike me as very Guerlain-ish. I am glad to see the old things coming back, and it looks like they got some big names for their new line, so I am hopeful too :-)

I'm glad they're re-releasing Guet Apens under a new name, Attrape-Coeur, which I regret not buying when it was released a few years ago and can't wait to smell Voilette de Madame.

I am so sorry to report that I've never tried Guet Apens. Do you have any idea why they are renaming it? I know Metalys is renamed because of the Metallica lawsuit.

Oh dear – and just when I thought I had no more lemmings. Let's hope the fragrances go into wide distribution. Hey R – let's plan a weekend trip to Paris – ha – if only!!! Still never tried Guerlinade – have you reviewed it here?

I must say that whatever Guerlain has released after Jean Paul retired was just so mainstream. I am not building my hopes up, but who knows—one may be pleasantly surprised! I am excited about relaunch of classics. I cannot believe that I did not buy a bottle of vintage Chamade extrait de parfum when I had my chance.

On another semi-related note, when I was in Paris, I was compeletely disappointed by Jean Patou store. It did not even make a nod to old classics, while parading EnJoy all over the place. The only other two things it carried was 1000 and Joy. The best thing though was to be able to smell separate ingredients that went into Joy (jasmin de Grasse, rose de mai, etc.)

Angelique Noire…hmmm…sounds very intriguing. I love the name. Let's see if all of these new Guerlain fragrances live up to the hype!

But fragrances for babies? What a waste IMHO. How about a line for girls, as they are the next generation of perfume buyers? I would have loved a fine line of perfume for girls when I was in grade school. They make great gifts, and could be tied into other products like dolls and books.

Maybe we need to work on that, Robin?

We *need* to go to Paris. I have not been to Paris in 20 years. That is pathetic.

Haven't done Guerlinade but will try to do it soon.

Wow, Chamade. Have never smelled the parfum, it must have been lovely.

Surprised about the Patou store, although I would love to smell all those separate notes! They have quite a back catalog that they could be re-issuing. Maybe Guerlain will spur some other old houses into action.

You are so right. There is a Barbie line, but now that Barbie has been taken over by the preschool set it is too young. Trying to think of a good tie in. Maybe the American Girls dolls? But actually, I'd be surprised if they didn't have a scent already.

I had no idea what Guet Apens meant until I googled it just now and it is the French title of the old Steve McQueen/Ali McGraw movie “The Get-Away.” “Attrape Coeur” is definitely more commercial and less subtle name for a perfume than “Guet Apens,” which smelled very elegant to me, and did not bring a car chase to mind.

I didn't hear about Metallica suing Guerlain. I guess it's not surprising if they feel that protective over their name, but what different demographics they have! They better not call their next eau “Jour Vert.”

When I return to NC, I will be happy to send you some to try. I bought a bottle in Paris, however before leaving for PA, I forgot to decant some. I really miss it now.

Yes, let's hope that Guerlain will be an inspiration for other houses!

I wonder if any of the new releases will be based on Guerlinade, or have they given up on that altogether? Angelique Noir sounds interesting – could it be anything like Angeliques sous le Pluie? Cuir Beluga sounds frankly alarming – I wonder if it's a man's fragrance? And Rose Barbare – any guesses on what the 'barbare' refers to? Patchouli's been done with Voleur de Rose, so perhaps…leather? Musk? Ah, happy speculation!

LOL at “Jour Vert”, although I think Metallica are particularly known for suing anybody & everybody.

I have no idea — have seen nothing about notes, etc for these new fragrances. I don't even know if the names are right…they have been posted on various fragrance boards, but I haven't seen them mentioned in any of the official Guerlain press releases. Cuir Beluga does sound alarming!!

It's rather outrageous that they only carried those three scents and not even Sublime, which I consider to be a great Guerlain perfume in disguise. I know Patou is trying to get into the custom fragrance game, but it doesn't help their credibility by making the light, innoucous and annoyingly named “EnJoy.”
