Hugo Boss will launch Hugo Element, a new fragrance that aspires to "upgrade the adolescent image of the Hugo brand", this coming February. The target is urban men, the bottle is meant to recall an oxygen tank, and the face for the fragrance will be actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who has fronted the Hugo by Hugo Boss scents since last year (you can see two of the TV spots here). More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.
Coming in October from Agent Provocateur, their eponymous perfume in the “Agent Provocateur DD” limited edition (above left); the DD stands for “diamond dust”. Yep, it’s got diamond particles right there in the juice, so as to add a little shine, and there’s a shiny metallic finish on the bottle…
Recently, I was worried I had run out of ways to review mediocre, smell-alike mainstream men’s fragrances. Should I continue to tax my imagination and keep thumbing through Roget’s Thesaurus for new ways to say a fragrance is “dull,” “insipid,” “typical,” etc., or should I simply ignore boring new releases? I jokingly said to Robin here at Now Smell This that we should create a ‘review form’ for such scents; it would make reviewing so much easier. Of course, a perfume blog can’t ignore new releases and I can’t use a review form over and over again without becoming a bore myself, but just this once…
