It might just be my imagination, and a feeling of tentative hope that my city has come through the worst of the pandemic, but the roses in my neighbors’ front yards and the local parks seem lusher than ever this year. Van Noten chose not to try out the fragrances with test audiences to see how they reacted to the products because “quite often they are made a little bit easier, which I didn’t want to do. The more character they have the better.”
