We are now accepting entries for the 2008 Prix Eau Faux, our contest to reward excellence in “creative fragrance writing”, e.g., faux ad copy.
We have assembled a distinguished panel of judges, including several of us from Now Smell This (me, Angela, Kevin, Erin and Jessica), Marina from Perfume Smellin' Things and Katie from Scentzilla.
The judges will select a group of semi-finalists, and then the readers will vote on a grand prize winner…

Kevin has spoken (ok, I chimed in) and the name of our upcoming fake fragrance ad copy contest (if you missed the initial contest post, see here) is Prix Eau Faux, which seemed like an appropriate blend of ludicrous, pretentious and vaguely plausible — the very qualities the contest is all about. It also sounds silly if you say it out loud.

One of the joys of posting about new fragrances is the chance to quote all the gloriously over-the-top ad copy. My own personal favorite from the past year is still By Kilian’s “Beneath the pseudoinnocence displayed by Bergamot from Calabria…”. Can you do better? Several commenters over the past year have suggested that we run a contest to find out. So, in the spirit of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, we will. We’re still working out the details, but essentially entrants will be be asked to write a couple of paragraphs introducing their new perfume house and its debut fragrance.
But first, we need a name…
GQ has teamed up with Calvin Klein Fragrances to launch their newest fragrance, Calvin Klein MAN with a nationwide search. Five men will be chosen that best epitomize the Calvin Klein MAN: Sexy, Stylish, Sophisticated, Socially Aware and Smart. This first-ever nationwide search will be conducted in department stores nationwide and on-line. The five lucky winners will have their stories and photographs featured within a 2008 issue of GQ.
