Hand creams from Burt's Bees, in Orange Blossom & Pistachio, Rosemary & Lemon, Lavender & Honey. 28.3g for $5.39 at Target, although looks like they're not in stock yet. Also looks like there will be body washes, and maybe lip balm, in the same scent combinations.

We often discuss “niche perfumery,” but what about niche toiletries? Lip balm, for example. Who doesn’t own a lip balm of some kind? It might just be a basic ChapStick or Blistex picked up at the drugstore. On the other hand, it might be a lip-care item with a carefully honed image (and a matching scent), designed to appeal to a very specific user group. Here’s a selection of quirky lip balms that have caught my attention over the past few months.

For the traditionalist-with-a-twist: Burt’s Bees Revitalizing Lip Balm with Blueberry and Dark Chocolate. This new iteration has the same ideal consistency as the original Beeswax formula, with natural flavoring from extracts of antioxidant-rich (and tasty) blueberries and dark powdered cocoa…

Gud Floral Cherrynova Body Wash, Body Mist and Hand Cream ~ scented body products

Gud Floral Cherrynova

Güd (pronounced “good”) is a new line of fragranced bath and body products brought to us by Burt’s Bees. Its upbeat promotional campaign, complete with clever “scratch ‘n’ sniff” cards keyed to an animated video on Güd’s Facebook page and website, has been easy to spot in recent weeks. The products themselves have practical yet adorable packaging ornamented with cheerful, collage-like imagery of fruits and flowers. The full line of eight products is available in three fragrances, with which Güd has smartly covered three perenially popular categories: a citrus (Orange Petalooza), a vanilla (Vanilla Flame) and a light floral (Floral Cherrynova).

Cherry blossom-fragranced products have long been best-sellers for Bath & Body Works, of course, not to mention the cherry blossom scents released by everyone from L’Occitane to Guerlain. I don’t usually find cherry blossom perfumes compelling enough to wear on a regular basis, but I do enjoy this simple, delicate floral note in body-product formats. Güd’s version…

Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil ~ scented body products

Posted by Jessica on 23 June 2007 4 Comments

Burt's Bees Mama Bee Nourishing Body OilBurt’s Bees, one of the longer-established natural body-care companies, has been introducing new products at a fast and furious pace lately. As a companion group to the popular Baby Bee line for infants and small children, the Mama Bee line has recently emerged. Although they are ostensibly tailored for expectant and new mothers, the Mama Bee products are suitable for adults of any parental or non-parental status, and gentle enough for children themselves.

My pick from this line, the Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil, offers a simple and self-explanatory list of ingredients: sweet almond oil, lemon oil, wheat germ oil, vitamin E, and rosemary extract. The blend is 98.50% natural, according to its label. I am already happily familiar with Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Apricot Oil. I’ve been using it for several years, and it reminds me of one summer in particular when I applied the oil to my arms and legs every morning and walked to work breathing in the scent of ripe apricots. The Mama Bee is not as exuberantly scented as the Baby Bee, perhaps in keeping with her more responsible spirit. This oil’s mouth-watering fragrance of freshly cut lemons rises and fades quickly, leaving the wearer free to tend to business around the hive…
