Women didn’t need another object to put on their bathroom shelves

I never imagined the bottle standing vertically. Never. In my mind, women didn't need another object to put on their bathroom shelves. I pictured a flat, refillable, ultra-portable bottle with the proportions of a smartphone, which the hand is already used to. I wanted to create a bottle so thin that we had to construct various ways to create it.

Very little creativity left

The designer, however, believes there has been a gradual decline in the creativity in bottle design. “There is very little creativity left. People are copying designs,” the timbre of his voice conveying disappointment.

Absolutely unique

A lovely 4+ minute film on the amazing bottle designer Pierre Dinand. Do find time to give it a watch if you can. You can find out more about Dinand (including a complete list of his bottle designs) at his website.

A retrospective featuring 30 of Dinand's favorite bottle designs will run from 30 March through 4 April at Liberty London's Alternative Fragrance Festival, where Dinand will also be talking with Jan Ahlgren of Vilhelm Parfumerie at 11 am on 1 April.

This year, the International Perfume Bottle Association convention was held in Portland, Oregon, just a short bicycle jaunt across the river from where I live. Normally, I’m more interested in a perfume bottle’s contents than the bottle itself, but the convention was open to the public for a “Perfume Bottle & Vanity Show and Sale” on Saturday.
