Welcome to the weekend and our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you're smelling out and about on the streets lately, the fragrance you wish you were smelling on the street, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Our favorite local children’s park, a very neighborhoodly little gem that has been recently upgraded to better sitting areas and benches – even the little splash pad got upgraded – has its very own fashion show when all the Moms gather: some in their yoga suits, others wearing sun dresses, it is still warm but not as excruciatingly hot as it was a say a month ago. The perfume that prevails around the Mom crowd and is still going strong as a trend is still: BR540. Some Moms wear the original some pass around the cheaper “inspired by” versions of it, clapping their hands that they were able to purchase it for much. I watch and observe from the side. However a couple of times I was able to step in and introduce them to some Chanel. There is this one Mom in particular who asked me about my perfume, it was Chanel °18 and because I had the bottle with me – I let Her try it. She was a little shocked with the price but a few days ago She brought Her very own bottle of it and thanked me for the recommendation. She said She was able to talk Her Husband into buying it. She also said She never heard of “ambrette seed” but told me Her Husband absolutely hated BR540 (She had the original) and that would always complain about Her wearing it and that if spending this much money on a fragrance – Chanel °18 is like a fresh spring breeze and although also expensive – subtle and romantic. Not cloying and beautiful. I guess I can claim “conversion perfumista points” for this particular situation haha.
I have never smelled Chanel 18, but iris is my favorite so maybe I would like it. Not sure about the ambrette seed. Might be okay.
Ok I have a manufacturer’s samples of °18 – when I have a chance to go to the Post Office I will mail a sample of it to You. Just note: while it is a beautiful fragrance it is also going to be overlooked by many (You know standing next to the strong-willed Coromandel) and it is not an iris-centric perfume per se. Nothing like Hiris or Infusion d’Iris where You smell it and exclaim: oh iris! You have to really press Your nose to the wrist, iris is the support note. That’s all. But You will be able to try it for Yourself soon.
One more question: have You tried Chance Splendide yet? The purple Chance? I have samples of that one too if You haven’t tried it. It also has iris.
Yes, I did not care for it. You don’t need to send 18. If it isn’t iris-centric, maybe I wouldn’t be interested. You already have things coming to me.
It does however have iris and ROSE in it, even if iris is not the first note that jumps at You – it is still a very special fragrance and I don’t mind at all.
Happy weekend!
Sotd is JM Orange Bitters.
I am heading out to pick up some croissants, along with other yummy baked goods for a getogether. I might or might not be caught eating one on the way back, shhhh.
I love the popcorn smell in cinemas and it would be fabulous if the streets smelled like that too.
Enjoy your get together! Hope you had a fun day.
Were you the one who was interested in 4160 Tuesdays New York ’55? I happened to come across my bottle and thought it was you who mentioned it awhile back. If you’re interested I can send it out to you.
Gail! Thank you so much for having me in your mind. I indeed mentioned it in the past.
I appreciate your kindness so much but I actually already own a bottle of NY ’55 so please keep the bottle and smell fab! 🩷
Orange Bitters – you smell marvelous, happy888cat. I hope your get-together went well.
I do the same when I buy sangyak, I have to tear off bits on the way home as it’s usually warm and right out of the oven. It never gets home without my ragged ‘trimming’ at the edges.
Luckily, sangyak, which is a Persian flatbread made with whole wheat and regular flour studded with sesame seeds that is about four feet long and shaped like an oval, is usually folded over and wrapped in brown butcher paper, at least at my local shop, so the pilfering is not readily apparent.
This all makes me think of L’Artisan Bois Farine, which I’m suddenly wanting to smell. I had some years ago but it’s long gone.
The get-together went really well, thank you! We all love breakfast so it was brekkie items for dinner. So much fun!
I have never tried sangyak. I needed to google and now I want one! Having bread that’s fresh out of the oven and actually not eating at least a bite is a crime and total disrespect to the Carb Gods. 😉
Bois Farine is a beauty and also Uncle Serge’s Jeux de Peau, another bready masterpiece.
I could not face a Maksim sample this morning, so I am wearing one of my favorites, Aedes de Venustas. I needed that blast of rhubarb this morning.
Reading “The Pirate Queen” and liking it very much. I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies yesterday, gave a dozen away, and had two for breakfast. Should be a good day!
Ah foxbins, you had oatmeal for breakfast. Very healthy!
I also enjoy my own oatmeal cookies for breakfast. I don’t care for chocolate chips so I add bananas and dried apricots.
You smell great!
As a child, my daughter said breakfast was her favorite meal because it was the only one you could eat dessert for the meal and it was acceptable. I avoid packaged breakfast foods (cold cereal, pop tarts) but I have eaten a slice of apple cake or banana or pumpkin bread or a nice cookie with milk.
I am very impatiently waiting for FedEx because it has my bottle of Chance Eau Vive in it and it is the one Chanel I haven’t smelled yet. FedEx claims my package will be delivered Sunday – which is tomorrow. If I remember correctly FedEx does deliver on Sunday so I hope it’s true and I can finally put my hands on Eau Vive tomorrow already.
Eau Vive is wonderfully uplifting. I hope you love it!
I’m back in Chinchilla again. We may not make it out of the 40’s today, so I needed a fuzzy, warming perfume.
Kris, sorry it wasn’t to your liking. Honey can be a polarizing note. It loves me and I love it, but I know some people read it as urinous. 🍯
Have a great weekend!
Hey, you win some and you lose some🤣
I’m in Prada L’Eau Ambrée this morning — it’s giving a nice, slightly fizzy/buzzy vibe that feels energizing. It might encourage me to vacuum my window blinds. Or not! 😆
I cannot think of a single fragrance that would induce me to vacuum my blinds.
You smell lovely, however.
This made me laugh! And I totally agree, they have not yet come up with that fragrance.
I would vote for not.
All of my fragrances discourage me from vacuuming the blinds!
Lol
I always get confused between Prada L’Eau Ambre and Prada Ambre. I suspect that Ambre morphed into L’Eau Ambre at some point, but perhaps they are two different scents. Either way, you smell lovely, SheriG.
Is Prada Ambre the one that has faintly lavender colored juice? Seems like I sampled that after lucasai praised it. L’Eau Ambrée is in an opaque bottle so I can’t tell what color that juice is.
Tobacolor for a beautiful California day.
Heading out for walk.
You smell great!
I love Tobacolor! It’s such a perfect cool weather scent.
Mr. allo took such good care of me last night and this morning as I slowly emerged from the achey fog of my Covid vaccine yesterday.
I’m still commando (quite rare for me!) but I’m sure I’ll be back to fragrance-wearing soon.
That’s so nice you are being taken care of. I hope you are back to 100 percent soon!
Thank you, lillyjo. I feel better already.
Mine was rough this year too. Glad to say flu jab much better, got it yesterday afternoon and was tired this morning but feel fine now.
I’m glad your flu shot wasn’t too bad and that you’re feeling better😊
I had both at once. The first (I think COVID?) went in without me noticing. The second felt like it was going straight into my muscle, painfully. One or both of them made me achy the next day, and the pain in my arm is just going away now, three days later.
I’m heading to work to get a few extra hours in this week.
I’m wearing Narciso White Cube.
You smell so good!
Smelling good!
Hope the extra shifts pay well, and you smell delightful 🙂
In Toronto today. Lunch with my oldest friend and his wife (just back from a trip to Tokyo, so good to see them again), a little shopping, a lot of walking. So much walking! I did it in SL Rousse: it was a cool sunny autumn day and that rough spiciness seemed like the perfect counterpoint (plus of course I was limited to what I brought with me).
So much walking and so much smelling good!
You’re making me look forward to my trip to Toronto in a couple of weeks!
Rousse is so lovely!
I brought out Shalimar L’essence today. It’s cool and rainy-ish so a cozy choice was needed. I missed checking in the last few days; I wore Ciara on Thursday (for doing some paperwork organizing) and Choco Musk on Friday. Comfort scents seem to be on the agenda.
That time of year.
It sure is.
We returned last night from our 3-day minitrip exploring nature in the unglaciated northwest corner of Illinois/Iowa. Incredibly beautiful weather the entire time, truly ‘golden autumn’ days, winds very calm with only an occasional colorful leaf dropping. Walking through the rustling leaves, we reached a highlight of our trip, the top of a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River where we were privileged to see an eagle fly overhead. I wore YR Nature Millenaire the entire time, and coupled with the incredible beauty of our surroundings, this lovely woody/earthy scent is the embodiment of peace in my soul. That is my contribution to this week’s cp.
Back to the business of life today, had to work at our library’s fall book sale and I’m exhausted. Going to relax with WS game 2. SOTD is just a spritz of Pacifica Mountain Temple to keep that peaceful zen feeling alive. Hope to catch up on the posts I missed tomorrow. ☮️✌️
Sounds nice. We are watching the game too!
Your trip sounds so lovely!
Very nice, Laila. I finally got to smell that one thanks to someone here and it was lovely. This Mountain Temple (or my skin) really amplified the cloves, a spice I use a lot in cooking both savory and sweet dishes.
I wore L’Eau Papier today for an online zoom all day class, it was very calming.
That is a long class, hope it was worthwhile!
It was! 😁
L’Eau Papier was sadly not for me but knowing you, you must smell fab!
I wore LADDM today to get me through a rainy, gloomy day. (Our first in a long time — weird around here that it’s taken so long.) Long, long day with running the kid around, running errands, having to volunteer to clean up after the kid’s orchestra (if we don’t, we lose our volunteer deposit), then having to attend a concert by a musical group where I’m on the board, and we’ve been dealing with some HR and funding issues lately, so hard to not think about those while I sit there. Then home to see some very surprising election results. Long day.
I wore Volutes last night (thanks to an NST friend) and it was so sheer and soothing, a very nice fall transit scent from our heat wave into cooler weather.
Love Volutes.
Pleasant sunny day today, will be in the high 70’s before some much-needed rain. I am not used to having to water my herbs until late October. The basil looked so bad, I just harvested some of it to use in a salad.
I wore Clean Reserve Skin yesterday with a later in the day overlay of Solinotes Rose. I had bought that one when I was testing rose fragrances and it is surprisingly good for a $25 1.7 oz I got at the grocery store. Today, I am trying out a sample of Tabac by La Via Del Profumo. I got a camphor note on first spray and it seems to have disappeared. I have been looking into tobacco notes. My sample of Herod is so far my favorite but I tried Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille at the counter some months ago and found it better than I remembered and I will have to go dig out my sample.
I planted some tobacco this year, just to see what the plant is like. I have to say, it did not do so well in my care/yard. The plants in the ground quickly died. One I left in the pot survived but is very straggly. Plus a friend from Kentucky told me you won’t get the typical tobacco effect unless the leaves are smoked in a hut and that is NOT happening. The plant seems to have no scent on its own. I might plant some patchouli next year.
I voted yesterday, finally, after not making it in time for the 6 PM closing weeknights last week since I was not finished with work by that time. I am not taking any chances this year getting my vote in. Saturday morning worked out great, minimal wait time.
I’m wearing Lancome Tubereuses Castanes today, which is not very tuberosey to my nose.
Post shower I am going open my Box of Eels extrait.
Box of Eels is always a good choice-I have the EDT and it’s like a silk chiffon scarf-so light but has presence. Nice time of year for it, too.
Wearing whiffs of Bois des Iles EDT that’s left over on one of my scarves. Yes, it’s time for scarves here and I’m wearing one of my favorites I picked up in France a couple years ago. 🧣
Had to leave work early last night, which thankfully management was very gracious about. I’ll be calling off tonight as well because I feel like I’ve been dragged through a bush backwards. 🥴
We use that expression here too. Also ‘drug up’ rather than brought up. You smell awesome and I hope you get some rest and mental peace soon.
Thanks, I’m off for a few days now with no plans other than walking the dog. I’ve been so tired lately I think I’ve been in bed TOO much…
I’m sorry you’re sick.I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you.
Sunday morning, it’s finally raining here, and I’m in Profumum Roma Arso. I smell like a cozy fire, with amber on the side. 🔥
Beautiful warm sunny fall day here and I’m still working on my odd work project-it’s due tomorrow and Tues. All week I’ve been wearing old perfumes-well, the ones I liked when I first found blog/MUA. Lots of eau d’Hadrien (I’ll use just the shower gel tomorrow) and today is Mure et Musc. I always went back and forth on this one-I love it/I don’t love it. But my friend once wore it and she smelled divine so I’m hoping to channel some of her energy today. Have a good start to the week, all you beautiful smelling and kind and interesting people 🙂
It’s pouring rain today and the sky is dark, so it’s gloomy, too. I’m making beef stew in the slow cooker. I’m wearing Paco Rabanne La Nuit edp today.
Oh, this is my next endeavor in the slow cooker. Do you follow a certain recipe or just wing it?
I just wing it. Veg on the bottom, carrots and potatoes take longer to cook than the meat. I usually add Better Than Bouillon paste to my liquid. I think it’s really hard to screw up a slow cooker stew.
🌞 and 72 degrees here, another glorious autumn day. Keeping the zen going this morning with coffee + the newspaper in bed, then a nice dip in the hot tub and some bird-watching. Putting the rest of our things from the trip away and relaxing the rest of the day.
SOTD because I love ☕️ is YSL Black Opium. It’s not as dark or heavy as its name implies, especially layered over BBW’s Vanilla Mocha Café body products, but is more of a warm gourmand coffee and vanilla blend.❤️
I never do this but I’m posting this song of the day because I heard it on the radio earlier today played in honor of her birthday, October 25, 1941, and I think that some of us here can identify with it.🎶
