Lazy 3-day weekend poll ~ open thread, mid-October 2026

Posted by Robin on 10 October 2026 42 Comments

PSA: the swapmeet is open for business through Tuesday! And our next reading poll will start on Saturday the 17th.

Meanwhile, our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you thought you'd wear all the time but you never reach for, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I recently discovered a New Zealand range of perfume, O Te Ra. The perfumes were listed on Fragrantica’s new releases, so I didn’t find them through any local ingenuity 🙂 .
That was quite exciting, there aren’t many perfume brands here, so I ordered the discovery set. The perfumes aren’t unique to my nose, but all quite wearable. I’m keen to support a local business, so I think a FB might be in my future.

The discovery set I bought had a duplicate of one perfume. I asked if they could send me the missing one, and they sent a whole new set – that will be heading your way soon 🙂 .

Beautiful still sunny morning here ( at last) so will go for a walk in the botanic gardens and take my sketch book as all the spring flowers and rhododendrons are now in flower. I’m wearing On S’Etait Dit which Gaynor gave me a samp,e of . I haven’t looked up the notes but it seems like a good spring perfume.

I’m butting in but for what it’s worth it reminds me of Diptyque Philosykos if you have smelled that.

My personal favorite from there is Rose Magnetic because it smells to me like Delina. I like a lot of the others from there as well.

I haven’t sampled that one yet. I have Delina but my other daughter borrowed it. Right now I’m enamored with The Musc.

Yet another lovely day here, clear sky and 🌞, temp near 80 degrees but it doesn’t feel hot at all. Our event of the weekend is our local community college’s annual Guitar Fest. 🎸Despite its title, it’s a very low-key event. Several professional guitarists from across the country (some of whom are music professors) provide afternoon workshops yesterday and today, and there’s an evening concert each night featuring two musicians each night in a small intimate theater at the college. Incredibly, the workshops are all free, attendees receive various music-related free gifts, and the ticket for the concert is only $10. It’s a wonderful opportunity to hear all genres of music including classical, jazz and Spanish guitar. Mr. Laila enjoyed 2 workshops both yesterday and today; we enjoyed last night’s concert and are looking forward to tonight.🎶

SOTD is a fall favorite of mine from VS, Victoria edp. Numerous reviewers on fragrantica smelled different notes than those listed, and I would agree. I don’t get any red berries or rose, but I do enjoy the creme brûlée and a bit of caramel, andI also smell cappuccino not listed. I’ve layered it with BBW’s Vanilla Cafe body products to add more coffee notes and it works.👍

Hoping everyone enjoys the weekend, and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!🍁🍂

Thanks to a kind NSTer, I may have found my unicorn or at least an adjacent unicorn🦄

Roberto Greco Oeillères is the unicorn and since it was a very limited release, I was thrilled to smell Sultan Pasha Joyeux with its lavender and hay accord when it arrived as a sample in a swap package.

It’s not cheap so there’s that but at least the hope is alive to have a version of my beloved Oeillères🥰

What a day. I wasted two hours this morning trying to get a straight answer from an AI about a project I want to do. It kept referring me to imaginary materials and methods that won’t work in high humidity, so I finally gave up. I did laundry, then watched GBBS (I am liking Nigella more and more), read for a while, and ate leftovers for dinner. Why do I feel like I worked hard all day? I’m hoping tomorrow will be better if I get a good night’s sleep. I do smell really good, I’m wearing SL Fleurs d’Oranger.

So sorry to hear this, foxbins, and I feel you. I also fear that this is our collectible future and I dread it. I also feel that the companies can now hide behind AI and don’t have to be answerable as there are no live humans to talk to anymore, not even someone reading from a script in India. And if you were to file a complaint, first there’s no one to file it to, and if you did find someone, it would just be another AI that would adjudicate it. Blech.

oops Foxbins, I meant to add that you smell marvellous in Lutens. I was awash in Chanel No. 5 earlier and now in the very dry CSP Le Roi Santal, which I think is an old forgotten Comptoir.

Totally agree with all of this. I can’t stand it. It’s rampant in the medical profession and in billing, too. The inaccuracies are astounding. Take me back to 1985 please!

I have mixed feelings about AI and technology in my field of medicine. I agree with a lot of the downsides but there are some HUGE advantages. In training, we would have to go to the library to do searches on unusual conditions, typically involving using specialized search engines to sift through decades of medical journals and find relevant information and then read through the articles to get the information. Now I just Google from my phone. Of course, I still have to have some background knowledge to interpret the information but it saves loads of time. I use this for unusual conditions I don’t see very often but also to get updates on new treatments for common conditions. Plus it’s fun!

For billing for hospital patients, I used to have to carry a written log of all my hospital visits, the diagnosis codes the demographics. I was always terrified of losing the paper, days of work and a huge HIPAA violation. Now I have a locked list on an app on my phone, can search the diagnosis codes, capture the demographic and send my billing to the billers (in another country) and message the billers securely if I need to. I can message my partners directly when I am caring for their patients so they can know how their patients are doing. I can capture photos of key documents and transmit securely.

As I approach retirement from full time work, I am thinking of selling all my old medical textbooks. It makes me sad but I am not sure I should keep books I literally have not looked at in decades.

I am enjoying the somewhat cooler fall weather – dry and in the high 80’s.

Today, I am wearing a Reve d’Ossian sample. I find I really like incense scents – I find them very calming – and this one may be a 2027 purchase. Plus I want that tassel bottle.

Speaking of purchases, I was not good for the 3rd quarter of 2026. I finally picked a rose scent after testing out samples for more than 2 years, went with Spiky Muse. I may revisit some of my other rose scent candidates in the future. And I want to try the Absolu version of Rose of No Man’s Land.

I seem to have no limit on the number of musks I want in my collection and I caved for Kayali Musk 12. Very easy to wear. Not ground-breaking but I have enjoyed it.

I am going to try to put myself on a buying moratorium for the rest of 2026.

Still loving SSS Incense Pure. What a surprise to find that I already owned the exact scent I’d been craving, and that I hadn’t swapped it away years ago when I thought it didn’t suit me.

I haven’t been able to decide what to wear lately, so I’ve been wearing Nemat Vanilla Musk oil, which was also my only purchase this last quarter. It’s soft and sweet but not cloying to me. I also like Chanel Jersey and sometimes Dior Bois d’Argent on these “undecided” days — I guess I see them as scents that I love but don’t require a lot of “commitment”. I don’t know what my problem is but maybe it’s the changing weather.

I’m back to the office having recovered from my cold over the weekend. I probably should stay home, but I truly hate working from home.
Indochine will help – I had planned to wear it on Friday, but was too full of the cold to enjoy it.

Back from East Africa journey. It was wonderful everyday. My sister’s flight landed right next to mine in Amsterdam and we were off.
Delayed flights on the way home plus protests in France but I did manage to grab Box of Eels extrait and the new Chanel St. Moritz along with some skincare I wanted.
We have already planned out next trip. Commando today as o have many tsetse fly bites and am mostly in cortisone cream.
