Thursday scent of the day 10/8

Posted by Robin on 8 October 2026 20 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Octopus Day! The swapmeet is still open for business! What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Bakul Medjool.

Reminder: Personal matters are still taking up much of my time. I am hoping to restart the community projects next week.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Good morning y’all,

Went with Being Frenshe Moon Milk… smelling like a lightly spiced vanilla cookie!

Join in the Swapmeet fun! More to share, more to wear!👏💐💃

I’m wearing Rodin Rodin today, a beautiful indolic jasmine (before Mr. allo gets home this evening and I switch to something else😎)

Robin, that perfume sounds right up my alley and perfect for the season. Also, a big fan of the pumpkin colored dahlias. ☺️

My “kitchen” was poppin’ yesterday. 12” of counter space and a sink smaller than a dinner plate served me well because I cranked out a HUGE pot of chicken and veggie soup (old school style using a whole chicken), a batch of candied pecans (addictive!), and 2 loaves of pumpkin walnut bread in the air fryer. As a side note, the pumpkin bread was the best I’ve ever made. Light, moist, delicious! One of many reasons I always like trying new recipes. And to think just a couple of months ago, pouring cold cereal in a bowl with a splash of milk over the top seemed like too much trouble…

The earworm I was singing in my head all of yesterday:

    https://youtu.be/HgzGwKwLmgM?is=rfCmbQZIcWSimlD9

Day three of Chinchilla. It’s still pushing the right buttons. Just so dang pretty because it could go all raunchy (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but after seducing you, it takes a demure floral turn that’s unexpected and delightful. She’s a trickster. I may have to get another travel spray of this one…

All I want to do today is avoid everyone, snuffle my décolleté, pet my dog, and spend the day cooking and prepping until my freezer runneth over. Heaven. 🙃

Hope everyone has a lovely day. 🍁🍂

Is your Chinchilla one of the DSH perfumes? I have never tried anything from there but am thinking of a few.

Yes, that’s the perfumer. I was just on her website looking up Robin’s SOTD because I was thinking of ordering a small sample. I find the site discordant and time consuming. She has a LOT of fragrances on offer and I really get tired of trying to navigate through everything or do a search. To me, it’s very disorganized, but YMMV. Good luck!

It is astounding. I have slowed way down on announcing new DSH fragrances because even figuring out which scents are new is time consuming…no, they are not all on the “New” page.

I had no idea you could make quick breads in an air fryer. Your candied pecans and pumpkin bread sound delicious! I have stopped baking anything but bread in an effort to reduce my sugar consumption, but those do sound tempting.

There are more and more air fryer specific recipes coming out every day. They account for temp, time, and the mini loaf pan size. Two pans fit in my basket with plenty of room for circulation, and I use the “bake” mode instead of air fry. I’m sure if you looked you could find some reduced sugar recipes or use an alternative sweetener. There’s several on the market now. 🧁

That is lovely…people complain my kitchen does not have adequate counter space but clearly it can be done without much room, folks!

It’s probably going to be a little warm for it today but decided on Zara Leather Jardin.

My husband and I got our Covid vaccines yesterday. We rarely have side effects but got our butts kicked this time. We both had chills and body aches. Hey, it’s better than getting Covid. I am glad we decided to wait on our influenza vaccine for a week. Feeling much better as the day goes on.

Question of the day: I alluded to DSH perfumes in Deva’s post, but I am just wanting a little more information. I have never tried anything from that house. After looking on the site today, I found some I would like to try. What is anyone’s experience with DSH and what do you think of the scents from there?

I’ll butt in here and say that almost everyone who mentions her and her perfumes are overwhelmingly satisfied with the customer service and quality of her fragrances. I think a couple of NSTers have even visited and toured her studio. I purchased my bottle eons ago and had no issues at all. Again, I don’t like her website because I find it convoluted but that detracts nothing from the quality and service of her business. I’m just impatient. 🙃

I was hoping you would butt in. You are right about the site being convoluted. I have thought that before so never ordered anything. I think I am going to try a few though, one being the Chinchilla. That one sounds good.

I’ve been reading perfume reviews over on Claire’s blog takeonethingoff, so now I have 10 things I want to wear right now. But I will go with Ormaie L’Ivrée Bleue for now, my original plan, and maybe Douce Amère after that burns off in another dire day of heat and humidity.

    Hello.
Sotd is Hermes Ginseng Biloba. It smells wonderfully earthy, dry, lightly floral and medicinal. The opening perfectly captures the herbal essence of ginseng. I love this a lot. Definitely going on my Christmas wishlist!

Wow, maybe I do need to try it? I so rarely like Christine Nagel.

I’m taking another run at Vetiver Tonka. Either it’s very season-dependent and I haven’t found the right season, or tonka is just not my note — it seems to drown out all the vetiver. Boooo! After a shower I’ll put on something else. I’ve been craving incense lately but none of those I own (Feu Secret, Kyoto, Ancient Resins) seem quite what the nose wants. Trying to resist the urge to order a whole lot of samples — that mountain is still mountainous.
