Tuesday scent of the day 10/6

Posted by Robin on 6 October 2026 14 Comments

It's Tuesday, plus National Noodle Day, German-American Day, and Carole Lombard’s birthday. (And the swapmeet is open for business!) What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille for a chilly morning. Tea at the moment is Chaz's Chai from The Jasmine Pearl Tea Co.

Reminder: Personal matters are still taking up much of my time. I am hoping to restart the community projects next week.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Rosenthal True Blue teapot ("Rosenthal's True Blue reinterprets the classic white and blue pairing in a modern key, which has always been a symbol of refinement and harmony on the table") is on markdown at Tattahome, $165.

It’s a cool, cloudy fall morning here so, feeling like cozy is the word of the moment, AND it’s Tuesday, I skipped coffee and made myself a London Fog. A real one, with a lavender Earl Grey loose-leaf tea and lavender syrup from a local vendor that makes amazing syrups and tonics. Completely delicious. SOTM is Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur.

oh-that’s discontinued, right? I’d love to hear about your thoughts on your SOTD, if you feel like sharing them 🙂

I adore it. I’m a leather fan, and this one is suede and flowers, with lots of papery iris and maybe a tiny bit of smooth spice. It’s quite unisex to my nose — Mr. G tries to steal it from me regularly.

Oh, I should get some lavender syrup!

Do! It makes such a difference. If you have trouble locating some locally, the one I use does mail-order (in fact, I’m not sure they even have a storefront) — it’s called (unoriginally) Portland Syrups.

After many hours of restorative sleep yesterday, I was up before the crack of dawn this morning putzing about and making plans. My biggest mountain to climb is trying to figure out how to fix a drawer in the camper that has jacked up slides because every railroad track in North America seems to run through this town and the crossings are ROUGH, even at very slow speeds.

Fragrance wise, my plan is to have a Chinchilla sort of day, so that’s what I’m wearing. I have a small travel spray which has aged beautifully. It’s the most stunning deep, honeyed, ambery, light floral, cat-furish wonder of a perfume. It’s been a long while since I wore it and I forgot how lush it is. I’m imagining myself in my camper in the deep woods, draped across my velvet sheets in a satin gown, a glass of champagne in one hand, a cigarette in the other, diamonds glittering at my throat in the candlelight, with a heavy lidded come hither look on my face as a burly lumberjack approaches. Then the dog tap, tap, taps my arm because I rudely paused her belly rubs. Reality is not a friend of mine. 😂

It’s hard to find a review of this one, but if you love ambers/orientals/honey it’s definitely one to try. It’s in the family of MFK Absolue pour le Soir, but more polite and wearable. While AplS shouts from the rooftops its intentions, Chinchilla whispers beguilingly in your ear. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. Hubba, hubba. 💋

Also, a question for the tea aficionados out there on this Teapot Tuesday. I was in B&N the other day and saw a tin (which I immediately fell in love with) of Harney and Sons tea, but it seemed pretty spendy as I’m a cheap Celestial Seasons Peach tea kind of girl. Is it worth the money? Honesty, I want the tin but I also don’t want to pay that kind of money for a mediocre tea…

Harney makes good teas, but often you are paying mostly for the tin and for the cost of making those sachets (the tins in stores are almost always sachets). If the tin is what you want, you could check to see if it’s cheaper to buy direct from Harney; if the tea is what you want, you can often buy it cheaper in a bag of loose leaf direct from Harney.

p.s. I always find the teas they sell at stores like B&N to be very sweet, which makes sense but I never end up liking them even though I like Harney in general.

Thanks, I never thought to check their website, assuming it was a collaboration with the bookstore.

Hi Deva, wanted to share a cautionary tale with you about Harney. Last winter I purchased a monthly subscription for their Lunar New Year Fire Horse tea. I assumed if they sold an annual subscription then they would plan to stock it for a year, right? Wrong. They stopped fulfilling after April. Moral of the story: if you find a seasonal tea you like, load up on it so you don’t have a supply chain issue. If I had known I would have purchased 12 tina before.

Oh, good to know, thanks. I never do subscriptions because I’m generally not in a fixed location. I did pick up a couple of different flavors so I’ll see how I like them. I already know the tin is winner.

It’s a cold fall days here with some wind. Trees are all kinds of colours. I’m in rose and Cuir. I really like this scent and don’t know why it doesn’t get more wear. I got a nice new cream coloured sweater at a men’s store so I feel like I look nice and I am cozy. There’s a shop that sells the Blackwing pencils right next door – anyone else here enjoying analogue items again? 🙂

Today I’m in one spritz each of the three scents from Nobile 1942 Le Petit Chocolatier: the second one doesn’t really work on its own but it adds a little grit to the sweetness when they’re mixed.

Speaking of mixing chocolate things, I bought the Chocolate Orange shower gel from Lush last week, even though there isn’t a molecule of chocolate in it, at least not detectable by my nose. But it is an extremely accurate fresh-orange smell, right down to the bitter white pith, and I knew I was going to do what Robin suggested, which is to mix it with Posh Chocolate shower gel. I alternated dollops into a squeeze bottle so it comes out sort of swirled together, and it’s quite nice — not quite Terry’s Chocolate Orange, because the hazelnut gets in the way, but still pleasant. I also did buy the Hot Chocolate Orange lip butter, and there is very, very little orange in it, but it’s plush and creamy and chocolatey: they do lip balms so well.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Balenciaga Incense Perfumum.
The weather is sooo nice today, chilly and bright sunshine. I was lazy and planned to stay in but now I am tempted to go for a long walk with a large cup of hot black coffee to sip on along the way.
I watched I Will Find You on Netflix yesterday. Started off suspenseful and gripping then the wheels fell off at the last 2 episodes. Don’t bother if you plan to watch. 3/10.

    Good morning y’all,

Went simple and old school with Alyssa Ashley Musk EdT; smelling crisp and clean!

I have started buying tea and I do love a cuppa, but I was in traffic for 2 and 1/2 hours today (dropping the cat off at the vet and then slogging on to work, LOL), so I’m halfway thru a 20oz Mountain Dew. Full sugar, full caffeine. It’s a lifestyle that I don’t always embrace….. HA HA HA 🙂
