Wednesday scent of the day 9/9

Posted by Robin on 9 September 2026 19 Comments

It's Wednesday, plus Leo Tolstoy’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I've been commando since August 27, and probably will be for the next little bit.

Reminder: the community project this week is the same as last week's! Wear a fragrance that celebrates how there is never enough time to do everything you ought to do!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Jour d’Hermes parfum. It’s rainy today and I do not enjoy it, so I had to use my liquid sunshine.
Has anybody smelled or even bought the new Chanel Mademoiselle Crush? Is it worth going to the counter to try?

I saw it at Macys but didn’t try – report back if it’s worth a sniff.

I haven’t smelled it and not about to waste Ulta points to get a bottle unsniffed.

Seems like commando is the ultimate scent to embody lack of time! I’m commando twinning at the moment, but will spritz something on in a bit. Bel Ami was whispering to me earlier, but we’ll see what the hand reaches for later.

Checking in to say I am crazy busy. I will keep posting polls whenever I can but the blog is not likely to get back to normal this week. Hope everyone is well!

Warm and humid today with rain showers all morning (but fortunately nothing extreme) makes for a lazy start to the day. Nothing much on the agenda except yoga at the library this afternoon.

SOTD is Theorema Leggero, which I think of as a nice transitional scent bridging summer into fall. I like orange notes and spice in the fall and this has just enough of that but is still lighter than the original.

Happy middle of the week to all! 🧘‍♀️

You smell wonderful, Laila. My fave Theorema flanker is Esprit d’Ete. Lots of spice in that one too.

We are back to 100 degrees and high humidity today so I’m back in Honore Payan Vetyver, my vintage Grasse cheapie that cools me off wonderfully.
    Catching up on yesterday’s posts.
Loves to Smell Good – I totally missed that you were reading The Betrothed too. Yay for us. It’s quite a rollicking tale and so well translated. I think it qualifies as picaresque. I am really enjoying it and it’s such a scathing satire of the wealthy and powerful.
Jalapeno – Alain Delon put his name everything from suitcases to perfume. He has 54 fragrances in the Basenotes directory!! I have only smelled a handful. I really like Iquitos and also his first one, just called Alain Delon or AD. Lots of pine needles/forest in that one, well-done. Luca Turin really liked Lyra, which came and went.
I have no idea how involved Le Samourai was in his perfumes, some seem like a money grab but others are excellent. The earliest ones date to 1980.
Robin, you and your family are in my thoughts.

I sprayed on a little Akro Bake this morning and then went for a brisk walk, so it’s almost all gone now. I might put on some Rhubarbe Ecarlate after I finish an email.

Holy cow-it’s late fall weather here-it’s cold and dark and raining, and has been for a week. SOTD is Miss Dior-the gardenia chypre one. It’s such a good quality fragrance. When I wear it I’m reminded of my grandmother, although I don’t remember her wearing it. she loved good quality fragrance. My uncle was working in marine industry when Opium was released-her brought back two bottles of it, one for his mother (the grandmother of whom I speak) and one for his MIL. My grandmother liked just a drop. The MIL used the entire big bottle inside of a week! So she must have really loved it lol.

I’m up and about earlier than usual, I’m catching a 7am flight to attend a funeral. It’s for my mother’s cousin, he was 93. My mother isn’t able to travel, so I’m going for her.
I’m wearing the always lovely Diorling which is so easy to reach for, so I’m accidentally CP compliant.

Sipping my coffee post breakfast, which was toast with cherry, blueberry, and strawberry compote on top. Made a huge batch of last night before bed. I looked positively vampiric due to compote around my mouth. It also dribbled down my chin because sometimes those cherries burst in unexpected ways. 🧛‍♀️ Now looking quite decorous with a clean face and berry stain free hands.

No plans at all today. It’s really wonderful to be able to laze around and daydream but it’s not great for productivity. Gas is so high I have no desire to go anywhere. I guess I’ll just swan around wearing BG again and do a bit of light cleaning and reading. Uninspired is the word of the day. 🙃 Currently about halfway through Between Two Fires, but in reality I’m just waiting for the release next week of the new Sebastian Barry book. Also, saw mention of Atlas Shrugged this morning, which I read many moons ago as a teenager, but it seems an appropriate time to re-read it, so I may hunt down a copy.

Robin, wishing you and your family the best. The after times are so hard. ❤️

Wearing Coco Mademoiselle Intense today since I have the massive bottle from a Sephora sale 3 years ago. I don’t wear it often but really should get a move on on knocking out a few bottles of CM and no 5.
