Tuesday scent of the day 6/2

Posted by Robin on 2 June 2026 110 Comments

It's Tuesday and the 2nd day of LGBTQ Pride Month, plus National Rocky Road Day. Birthdays: Martha Washington, Barbara Pym, Charlie Watts, Cornel West. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m in Carthusia Mediterraneo, because someone mentioned it over the weekend. Tea at the moment is China Black Mu Dan from Upton.

Reminder: on 6/5, wear a fragrance with eucalyptus, if you have one. Suggested by Kanuka.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Grand Tour teapot from L'Objet ("A graceful teapot that evokes the refined rituals of European salons. The porcelain body is adorned with botanical illustrations inspired by stone inlay, layered with color to achieve depth and luminosity. Hand-applied gold enhances the silhouette, creating a piece that echoes the artistry and collected treasures of the Grand Tour tradition") is $350.

I’m in a single spritz of Bvlgari Omnia down low because I have some medical appointments later in the morning. I was dithering about buying a small bottle of CSP Vanille Banane for the summer because it’s fun and absolutely perfect. Alas, she who hesitates is lost because I see today it’s already sold out on fragrancenet…☹️

It’s a gorgeous day here after a couple of very thunderstormy days of which doggo was NOT a fan. We’re in a little efficiency for the summer and the bathroom seems to be her chosen panic room so I made her a nice bed in there. I also put her food and water there so the room has positive doggie vibes, leaving the bathroom door open so she can roam at will and hop up on the bed or couch on non-stormy days. I recently invested in a non-WiFi security camera that I can move from the camper (outside or inside) to just about anywhere and get live stream from wherever I happen to be. Since it doesn’t rely on WiFi, I can use it when I’m in remote locations to keep an eye on the camper when I’m away from it. It’s added a LOT of peace of mind because I think I’m still traumatized by the break in I had in my van several years ago where the 🍑🎩 threw my dog out on the street in downtown San Jose. It was a miracle a nice person found her wandering in the rain and saved her. Forever grateful for all the decent, kind people out there! ☺️

    Smell well, y’all!

Wow, I don’t remember hearing the San Jose story before; how traumatizing for both of you, so glad she was safe! Nice that she has a ‘safe’ place, my youngest 😸 has her ‘safe’ place under one specific bed and we’ve also made that comfy for her.

I remember your story about San Jose and all the crap which happened there. At least there was a decent human to help out T-Rex back then.

Glad that T-Rex has her happy place when the weather turns.

    Hello.
Sotd is the new V&R Bonbon Caramel Crunch. It is stright up POPCORN!! (yes, all caps worthy) it is so out there and fun. It does lean slightly “salty” due to it being so realistic but I love it. I might have to try layering it with my Lancome Idôle Nectar because the promised popcorn note was weak.
I was close to also buying Bonbon Cola Fizz because the cola scent was also realistic. It even captured the fizziness. But the dry down was also realistic, like flat cola so that put me off, lol.
Talking about layering, Robin what do you think about a layering CP called “Boost me up Friday” where we layer to strengthen/emphasize a desired note?

OMG that’s awful about the break-in but even more about poor T Rex, Deva. That must have been so traumatizing for the both of you. So glad a Good Samaritan found her.
I looked up eucalyptus scents on Fragrantica and there are a ton of them but I realize that this was not a note in regular use among the classic French/Italian perfumers of the past – most of the frags that have this note are new-ish ones, many by perfumers I don’t even recognize. But then I’ve not kept up. Seems like too daunting a task.
But I do have a decant of Caswell Massey Marem that some kind swapper sent me awhile back and it has eucalyptus in it, though I cannot isolate it, so that’s my SOTD.
Another random observation – I think maybe eucalyptus is a note that is found in body and bath products perhaps more than perfume for its invigorating herbal notes?
There’s also the new Le Labo Eucalyptus but I’ve not tried it.

I just searched for eucalyptus on Fragrantica and not only do I not own a single one of the scents, I’ve never even heard of most of them, so no community points for me this week.

Today I’m in a random choice, Nina Ricci Signoricci, not the 1965 vintage but from the mid to late eighties, I think: a fairly standard men’s fragrance, nice enough but unexciting. Looking at the list of notes you’d think it was a base-heavy powerhouse but it’s front-loaded and very subdued after the cologney opening. Unlikely to offend anyone, at least.

But after searching fragrantica (and, yes, I never heard of most of those scents), I found I have one fragrance, one body product, and one sample (and luckily I don’t smell any eucalyptus in any of them), so I’m good for Friday!

The theme is Armenia so we choose some notes that we associate with Armenia like flowers, incense, old books etc. In each category, we will present the raw material and three perfumes. We tried to choose perfumes from Armenian perfumers if possible. I am going to expose also some vintage bottles I have. We will also have lots of perfume related books to consult.

I only have one eucalyptus perfume, or at least I thought I did: it’s Zoologist Koala. But when I opened my special box with Zoologist travel sprays and samples, and found the little sample vial of it, most of it was evaporated. I got a few tiny drips out onto the back of one hand, and alas, there’s really no eucalyptus in evidence. Sad, because I remember first trying it and finding that note very pleasant in it. It brought back a wonderful memory I have from the Gorge Wildlife Park near Adelaide, South Australia, where I went with friends around 10 years ago, and had the fantastic experience of getting to hold a koala. She was a small animal but surprisingly solid and heavy, and was very placid and happy to be held close to me. Not only was she wonderfully soft but she exuded a sweet and gentle smell of eucalyptus. Not sure that could really be bottled but it was very calming and lovely.

I am wearing Carnal Flower, which is eucalyptus-adjacent – some websites mention eucalyptus as part of its pyramid, but FM only admits to camphor. Partial credit? A beautiful perfume anyway.

Tomorrow I’ll start wearing perfumes that officially list eucalyptus.

There was another big attack last night, and while we heard no drones or missiles near us this time, we did hear air defense trying to take them down. This was followed by reading the news about damage and injuries in the morning. Then I went to Kyiv to have my hair cut, and there was a drone attack in the afternoon while my hairstylist was doing my hair. Again, no drones in the immediate vicinity, but we heard air defense trying to get one or more of them.

All of this was not as bad as the attack a week or two ago – drones buzzing, one missile, I think, swooshing past – now that was frankly terrifying.

On top of all this, I found an email implying I had made a work-related mistake – only to double-check and find that the documentation supports my side. In the immortal words of Gandalf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjSCpFX4vqI

Not that this is an actual grievance or anything – I’m just making fun of the situation. I replied to the email politely.

Not the best day, not the worst.

There are a lot of pure white eucalyptus trees, at least in some parts of Australia. They are called “ghost gums.” I have a vivid Technicolor memory of spending an extremely hot afternoon at my hotel pool while visiting Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia. There was red soil, cobalt sky, turquoise pool, and rows of brilliant glowing white trees. I also love that delicious smell in the air.

Tea of the day Sencha from Kettl.
I’ve been watching Penny Dreadful after someone here recommended it, and I’m especially loving its retelling of Frankenstein.

My library has opened part of its 250th anniversary exhibition, so I’ve been feeling festive in red, white, and blue outfits.

I’ve also been sampling my way through a box of fragrances from Santa Maria Novella. I was sure Pot Pourri contained eucalyptus because it smells a bit like VapoRub to me, but apparently it doesn’t.

Today’s scent is Melograno, and I’m enjoying it quite a bit. This is my favorite from the samples.

SOTD Guerlain Vetiver eau Glacée which I thought had eucalyptus in it, but I think it is menthol. It was the first non-food thing I bought when we moved to Coral Gables. It’s supposed to be 90F today so I am wearing Atelier Orange Sanguine. Citrus scents always make me feel cooler. I am also reading a good but odd book: It’s kind of a murder mystery and the investigators are a robot and a cyborg dog, but the themes are about guilt, identity, and transformation. It’s called Ode to the Half-Broken. It kind of reminds me of Ishiguro’s work.

I’m wearing Holy Hell by Universal Flowering. I ordered the sample just because of the name. According to Fragrantica, it has notes of Plastic, Suntan Lotion, Choya Nakh, Melon, Ambergris and Neroli. Some reviews complain about the plastic and the melon, neither of which I would typically love, but I just smell summer and I’m enjoying it (granted it was a dabber so I haven’t sprayed).

Yesterday, we saw a sea otter eat a crab in no time flat. They’re cute from a distance😬

We camp at Odlin almost every summer. It’s so great.

I woke up Sunday to a major rosacea flare all over my face. Yikes! 😱
Better today but laying low on fragrance. A few sprays of JM yuzu around my ankles will have to do.

I suffer from rosacea as well so I can relate! My aunt suffers from it as well, and I remember she bought these makeup wipes at TJMaxx and had a really bad flare up! You never know what will trigger it…

JM Velvety Butternut today. I bought the mini trio and have been pleasantly surprised…not always a JM fan but have enjoyed them all. All 3 have patchouli to my nose. 🙂 I thought I would like this one the most but Scarlet Beetroot, a fruity patchouli with a little bit of leather to my nose (not a declared note), might be my favorite.

I have been super busy at work the last few weeks finishing up a bunch of stuff before leaving for Oahu for vacation later this week. 🏝️ I don’t think I’ve ever been this burned out on work before so I kind of have a strange battle fatigue and need to decompress as I feverishly pack. 😅

I will probably pack a travel spray of Hellenist
Les Dieux aux Bains for the trip and notes are below. I sniffed it in a store once and got mostly citrus and patchouli. Haven’t worn it yet but thought it would be a good summer vacation scent. 🍋🌿

    Fragrance Notes
Juniper Berries, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Water Flowers, Rosemary, Flowerpool, Patchouli, Vetiver, Ambroxan

Wanted to add re: Hellenist…I also got a travel spray of Les Bras de Morphee and love it. 😍 This is a gourmand iris that got a lot of buzz and some think is a dupe for Iris Ganache. To my nose, it’s much fresher in the opening but gets sweeter and more like Iris Ganache in the dry down…not a dupe but can definitely see the resemblance. I love that the house does travel sprays.

Unsettled weather again this afternoon, but not nearly as severe as yesterday. I got rained on a little bit while picking up Teflon’s new Rx and some cat treats. Got a potential heat wave rolling in this weekend with temps in the low 90’s.

SOTD = Glossier You Doux, from the Sample Stash. I am liking this flanker more than the parent scent.

The downside of Doux is that it disappears on me after 3 or 4 hours.

We planted a beautiful serviceberry shrub today that my forester friend and former coworker found for us. It’s our second one, and it will have beautiful blooms in the Spring, edible berries for our feathered friends in summer and lovely fall foliage. And it inspired a favorite thought-provoking book of mine that I know I’ve recommended before, The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Using her Native American heritage, she writes a book full of wisdom built around the concept of a ‘gift economy.’👍

I’m celebrating nature today in what I think is my favorite late Spring/early summer everyday scent: YR Naturelle layered over BBW’s Country Chic body products. Citrussy, green and fresh (but not aquatic), it’s perfect for the beautiful outside day we had today: warm temps, low humidity, clear blue sky, and lots of 🌞 🌞 🌞 .

Hope it’s been a good one for you!🌻

Gail said it well below. Plus they’re low maintenance, have 4 season interest, feed wildlife, live a long time, are not too expensive. Not really any downside yet a big upside to nature.

I had to look up your serviceberry. In my neck of the woods, it’s called a saskatoon. They are carefree shrubs; it should get small, flavorful purple berries in summer after the white blooms. We found the robins love them (and the berries).

Yes, you got it right! I never heard of the Saskatoon before, but there are several different varieties of the serviceberry or Amelanchier.

I really really like the Country Chic, love its grassy and citrussy scent, very uplifting! I still have some but would certainly pick up more if it were available at the SAS.

I was in Zara Livre Blanc yesterday and today.

I finished my Chanel Paris-Venise lotion on the weekend; I couldn’t get any more out of the lid/dispenser. Unfortunately I don’t think you can remove the lid without doing “surgery”; I have too many lotions to get through. I almost bought a other lotion at Winner’s yesterday, but I put it back on the shelf. Younger me would have got it, but I need to be mindful of what I can reasonably use. Instead I got some Creeping Phlox ground cover for my backyard. Plants vs perfume; seems to be a thing!

    sotd = CdG Avignon

I wanted to compare samples of Avignon and Tauer Incense Extreme as they felt in my memory like close cousins.

After sniffing the samples today I’d say they are distant cousins who see each other once every few years at a family reunion. I love them both. 😍
