Reminder: 5/8 is Sir David Frederick Attenborough's 100th birthday! Honor the occasion however you like: scent your favorite animal? Wear a fragrance that honors plants or water or anything natural? Wear a fragrance that makes you think of one of your favorite Attenborough television series? It's a pretty open field (and it's also Iris Day, in case you want to kill two birds with one stone).

Sotd is Roja Dove Espresso Aoud. I have been wearing this since I received it. Thoughts below:
This is not an espresso nor a latte, this is a macchiato.
It opens with a hyper-realistic, mind-awakening and fully caffeinated dark-roasted coffee. Then slowly comes the creamy, warm, full fat milk to round it out. Being a macchiato, the milk is restrained rather than heavy-handed. Unmistakably present is the buttery scent of lightly caramelised roasted nuts, adding depth and dimension.
This all comes enveloped in a generous woody base. Not pencil shavings or wet twigs or logs but dry, robust and dark wood. The oud is clean and substantial, giving a rich body to the whole composition.
Imagine you are in an artisanal roastery with heavy wooden hand-crafted furniture. You are sipping a cup of warm and soothing macchiato by the fireplace. The best thing? This experience lasts for a long time so you can indulge in it.
This may be one of the best coffee scents I have come across.

Morning-I chose L’artisan’s L’eau de L’artisan. I read about verbena yesterday, and it reminded me how much I love that scent. It’s sunny here and a bit warm-such a relief after yesterday’s cold rain. I love this scent-it’s just cheerful and happy. There is a price tag on the bottom of the box. If you’re interested it was $135 CDN for 100 ml ten years ago-times have certainly changed.

My sotd is En Voyage Zelda, packed full of greens with a deep oakmoss note. I kind of have to be in the mood for it but it’s wonderful today.

Well, I seem to have caught Mr. G’s cold (my voice sounds a bit like a frog after a heavy rain) so I wanted a comforting scent, and there’s almost nothing more comforting than Caleche over Le Dix dusting powder so that’s the cloud around me. Skipped the usual latte and made a London Fog, and am just waiting for it to cool a little before taking a sinus pill.

Today I’m in Jacques Fath Pour l’Homme, which smells seventies or eighties but was actually launched in 1998. It’s so complex and refined — I feel as if I’m putting on high-end menswear and pretending to be someone more sophisticated than I actually am.
Forgot to mention — on a whim I went to the Fath website and they have completely turned over their fragrance line: every single classic is gone and now it’s two collections of 5 scents each, surprisingly reasonable in price, and a 10-piece discovery set for €20, which is a steal. I am severely tempted!
I have stopped paying attention to Fath entirely…if you get them and they’re fantastic you can tell me I made a mistake 🙂
Will do! My prediction is some filler and one or two very good scents: several of them are clearly not in my wheelhouse, though I’ll try anything, but Bel Ambre and Jasmine de Toscane sound on paper like the sort of things I would love, and maybe Les Frivolités, too.

I gave in and got the Jo Malone Veggies Travel Trio Gift Set from Nordstrom. The fragrances sound so weird (in a good way) that I had to get it. I had a free $40 Nordstrom gift card from Rakuten that I have been holding onto to use it on something frivolous, so I used it on that. Otherwise I would not have spent the full $70 on it. I am a little disappointed the small bottles look like their standard bottles and are nothing unique looking though. I am hoping the butternut one will be nice for fall.

I am doing Iris Day today with FM Iris Poudre. I just received my BUB of it yesterday so since I have quite a bit of it now, I have been wearing it the last few days. It is sooooooo good!

Jo Malone Velvety Butternut today and ad copy is below. Very enjoyable…for as long as it lasts! ehehehe 😆 JM perfumes seem to have terrible longevity which may be by design w/ their model to layer and use more perhaps.
A smooth…woody–gourmand cologne blending velvety butternut, warm tonka bean and patchouli, inspired by an in-season harvest from the veggie patch.
Adding that I just sprayed it so will update w/ thoughts and true longevity later but so far I really like it…tonka and patchouli are always pretty good in my book and I do get a squash note. 😁

When I was walking along the river on Sunday I heard a peeping noise and spied a duck with nine tiny ducklings in tow. And yesterday when I was in the cemetery I saw a flowering daffodil. Maybe we’re not having winter this year but going straight to spring? Who knows? Wearing Abel Miami Split , an unripe, green banana opening on a floral-woody base.

Tea scents have been on my radar, especially because of the heat. When I stumbled on the bbw black tea, it was a no-brainer. It’s simple but I think it smells great.
I’m still kicking myself for getting rid of a Lancome green tea fragrance several years ago. I think it’s long discontinued and may be a holy grail now.

Yesterday was my birthday and Mr. SP has been outdoing himself with fun activities for my birthday *month* thus far! I wore Chanel 5 L’Eau.
Right now I am enjoying a pedicure and wearing the completely different but also much loved Grand Cuvée by Vacation/Arquiste (?).

I have pulled out YS Nu EdP (the hockey puck) to test one last time because a friend is interested in it and I never wear it. A really gorgeous incense with a little green (fir tree?). But I don’t know what size it is. I got it in a swap years ago. It’s almost 3 inches across and without a box. Anyone know what size it might be?

An apple instead of a smoothie
This morning, Idylle EDP, I realize it’s no masterpiece but I always enjoy it for what it is, a nice floral with no nasties and tonight I was leaning toward Angel Muse EDT but chose Innocent instead, lovely citrus and that tonka base.

Starting off wearing LL Iris 39, one of my favorite iris fragrances. Why, oh why would they discontinue this beauty, one of the best in their line up IMHO.

Happy Cinco de Mayo 🇲🇽! Celebrating the day in Pacifica Mexican Cocoa, such a nice blend of dry cocoa, vanilla and a touch of cinnamon. Not a scent I would usually wear in May, but as predicted, late night storms yesterday and heavy rain were followed by a sharp drop in temperature, so today it’s cloudy and chilly and will be so for most of this week.
Getting ready for another musical program at our library, so have a nice night, all!🎶

SOTD = Dame Perfumery Black Flower Mexican Vanilla EdP from the Sample Stash. A gourmand vanilla perfect for Cinco de Frio. 🥶🥶🥶 I also am wearing Josie Maran Topless Tangerine body butter in the usual spots. Had a bit of a Creamsicle vibe going on for a little bit.

The Black Flower is a good one, I should have thought of it for today; it’s the first Dame one I bought. Yes, Pacifica got rid of the good ones. I only have a little bit left in most of my bottles but luckily I got a BUB of the blood orange one, one of my favorites.
Dame Perfumery now has 50mL bottles of the Sonoran Desert Perfume Collection. Different label than the 100mL bottles, but a much easier size for me to deal with.
