Lazy 3-day weekend poll ~ open thread, mid-March 2026

Posted by Robin on 14 March 2026 161 Comments

The swapmeet is open for business! Sunday is the Ides of March, plus it’s Saint Patrick’s Day weekend, and the equinox is coming up on Friday.

We're marking all the occasions with our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your luckiest green perfume, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

You smell wonderful! Are you in the current version? I got to know it from a vintage bottle, but I could see how a current version would work in CH.

    Happy Pi Day! 3.14

Sotd LV Afternoon Swim. Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. I was not familiar with him. What an olfactory oeuvre! Fendi Theorema, Lancôme Poème, the list is long. Now he’s in house at LV and also did my delightful City of Stars! So JCB is now up there in my personal pantheon with JCE.

Has JCB created any of your favorites?

Ack, apologies for totally neglecting Pi Day!!

Christine Nagel did Theorema, Cavallier did Theorema Uomo.

He has done fragrances I like (Midnight Poison, Stella) but he is not up in my personal pantheon. But everybody is different! (And for that matter Nagel is not in my personal pantheon even though I adore Theorema.)

I am in BBW Peeps Mist and Body Cream.

I went out for early breakfast this morning with my sister and her family, and then stopped by BBW where she bought some hand soaps, which are on sale today. I ended up getting the Peeps mist, body cream and shapeable soap. I wasn’t planning on that purchase, but I had rewards that I finally decided to use.
I am running errands now and then meeting friends tonight for Saint Patrick’s dinner. I am glad we are having a sunny day despite being very windy and cold.
    Happy weekend! 🌻

I’m spring-flinging it (and twinning with SheriG) in Au Dela. Not being a floral lover, I’m not sure why this one rings all my bells. I guess it doesn’t matter WHY, just that it DOES. It’s so out of my comfort zone that it reiterates (to me) that testing out new perfumes shouldn’t be limited by the notes I’m familiar and comfortable with. Not that I’m testing out anything new right now…🙃

Good luck to all the swappers out there!

Hi twin, and same here! My collection is tilted toward ambers and leathers, with smatterings of citrus and woods, but very few florals. Au Delà and Le Temps d’Une Fete are two that are very outside my usual comfort zone but that I adore.

Oh you mentioned Le Temps d’Une Fete – I bought a bottle in a tiny little side street shop in Kensington, London many, many years ago – absolutely loved it – think it’s either been discontinued or reformulated – I still have the lovely blue box it came in, though!

I bought the smaller bottle first, probably 15 years ago, and then bought the larger bottle and swapped the small one. I don’t remember the box color on the smaller bottle — think it was black and white. I think the bottle shape changed as well.

I think the bottle I bought was probably 30 plus years ago – I’m an old f*rt, as the British saying goes!I loved it but it doesn’t appear on the Nicolai website now. I’ve worn Bulgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert on & off for years now, though I remember a Van Cleef & Arpels limited edition, a green fragrance, that I absolutely adored.

Hello there, Jalapeno – thank you for your comment, which had my husband & me chuckling! Yes, I believe ‘old f*rt’ is indeed a British term but I think it’s ‘crossed the pond’ (another British expression meaning the ocean between the UK & the USA, in case you haven’t heard this one before) possibly due to family & friends visits, British tv progs being shown in the US & the like.

In past years I have posted links to the beautiful, bizarre, and sometimes eerie holiday ornaments offered by Choosing Keeping (no affiliation) in London. Today I received an email regarding their supplies for an “Old-School Easter Basket.”

    https://choosingkeeping.com/

Personally, I am partial to the traditional papier-mâché pieces from small old factories in the former East Germany, but also find the carrot bunch candle strangely appealing.

    Which is your favorite?

Still galloping through the Wild Coast Perfumery discovery set. Yesterday was Stoker, which I appreciate a lot more than the first try: the maple syrup note is more evident to me and the whole composition has an eighties vibe to it — not as assertive or complex but pleasantly nostalgic. If I end up with a full bottle, it’ll probably be this one, though I still have eight to try. Today I’m wearing Abkhazi, an ambery jasmine: once again I don’t love the top, but after that it’s really something, a sophisticated unisex floral.

Need a bit of cheering up as our petrol prices hit $11.40 per gallon ($3 litre) and a dim future, supply-wise ( though obviously there are more tragic things happening ). I’m wearing Amouage Love Tuberose as I think Calypso mentioned it earlier this week and plan to take my pens and paper and go sketching later, inspired by this week’s CP.

I’ve been having a pleasant and busy weekend, catching up after being away last weekend. I’m part way through making some jelly with japonica apples from my mother’s garden. My mother has always grown them for the flowers, and I love the idea of getting fruit from her flower garden.
Now that I’m back from that short trip, I was expecting to be doing my final planning for a trip to Paris and Rome in 5 weeks, but I’m booked to go through Abu Dhabi with Etihad, and I have no idea yet what will happen with that.
Meanwhile, I’m still working on my list of things to sniff and buy on my trip, because I’ll get to Europe sometime, even if it’s delayed.
I’m wearing a souvenir of Paris from three years ago, L’Été Narguilé from Divine. It’s a light spicy tobacco, lovely.

SOTD = Imaginary Authors A Whiff of Waffle Cone

mmmmm good! I also have the chocolate one and it is just as good. I was too lazy to look up the CP theme and it looks like I am with the CO (for next Friday)!

I haven’t posted yet in the swapmeet but may. I have a good number but couldn’t decide which ones to include. Doing it alphabetically just doesn’t cut it anymore, just like I stopped ordering my shirts in ROYGBIV after the wash and a slight air-dry.

I’ve heard that one of the many IO updates contains new emojis! I am excited, but not sure when I’ll ever use them.

Robin, interesting that you chose the photo of the Chicago River dyed green this morning, as that’s exactly what was the talk of the town today as they dyed it green this morning around 10 a.m. in preparation for the big parade that started a little afternoon. It was fun to watch all the happenings on TV in the warm comfort of home!

Big fat snowflakes are falling gently now, as I just took a walk in my backyard to see what’s coming up: lots of tulip and daffodil shoots and other tiny green things. I was surprised to see my chives are up several inches already in my herb garden. But most amazingly those delicate white snowdrop flowers have survived the heavy downpours and hail earlier this week as well as the gale force winds of yesterday! They are closed tight against today’s weather but still dangling strong and I hope they can somehow survive the 2-4” of snow predicted for us on Monday.🤞

SOTD is the long d/c VS Dream Angels Forever, blackberry + Iris + amber = sweet, powdery, warm. It stays soft yet lasting on me and is a nice one for a cold wintery day spent at home.

    Happy weekend to all!☘️

Right back at you, on having a good weekend Laila!
Our daffodils have come and gone, confused by the unseasonable heat in the last month.
But there is jasmine blooming and our citrus trees are flowering, which the bees just love, so it smells like big white florals each time I step outside. This might honestly be why I don’t care that much for white floral perfumess, with a few exceptions. I enjoy them more in nature.

What’s sad is that everyone in a fire zone (which is most of L.A.) has been told they have to trim bushes and trees back from their houses, garages, etc. We don’t have a big backyard but we have a lot of flowering trees and bushes within reach of the structures that could be a problem. Many people just cut down all their trees and bushes altogether, so as not to have to worry about it anymore, or have crews come out every couple of years to trim as it can be $$. It really changes the character of the neighborhood. And some trees are said to not catch fire and actually help protect houses – such as redwoods and oak trees so there should be exceptions! It is a real dilemma for us in L.A.

I can see and smell your flowers all the way here, thank you because it will be awhile yet for any of that here. And I agree with you about the white florals. I have a large potted jasmine plant that I keep inside my bedroom 3/4 of the year where it’s just leaves. Finally, when summer arrives, it starts to bud and once the outside temps stabilize I move it outside onto our little deck where it bursts into bloom and scents our bedroom and the air when we’re in the hot tub. It’s absolutely magnificent and I often bury my nose in it and inhale deeply, but I very rarely wear any white floral fragrances, just don’t care for them.

As a nature lover, it is because it also gives us a good view of our bird feeders and little waterfall, the only additions we made to our very old, very modest home.

This morning I put on a soothing favorite, Kenzo Amour. I know that some people find it plasticky, but I don’t get that thank goodness, and I just love the heliotrope, almond, vanilla, musk, & whatever else is going on with it. My bottle is quite old and getting quite low, not that I can see through that darn red glaze but the pump is stuttering so I must be deep into the dregs. I’d like to get another bottle but I worry it’s been reformulated, it’s so cheap online. Does anyone have any info on this? Or an older bottle sitting in the back of their closet that they’d like to part with? If so, head on over to the swapmeet and look me up. Also, why are some of the Kenzo Amour bottles orange, some white, and some red? (like mine.) Are they are all the same or are there subtle differences. I never understood this.

The colors of the Amour bottles depend only on the size, the juice is the same: The 30ml bottle is fuchsia/red, the 50ml is white and the 100ml bottle is orange.

The first release in 2006 had the 3 colors. I remember having the white and orange ones. Later releases were all in the red/fucsia bottle. I got a new 100 ml bottle 3 years ago and it is red/fucsia. I don’t know if it was reformulated, but it smells the same to me.

Don’t forget eBay. That’s most likely where I got mine.

Also one of the things I do when I’m attempting to identify a particular bottle and year is to search for the perfume name plus advertisment. There are sellers on eBay who take old magazines apart and sell the pages with beautiful ads. They usually list the date or at least year of the magazine the page came from.

Today I’m in one of my all time favorite fragrances, Tauer’s Hyacinth and a Mechanic. I am a huge fan of Hyacinth and was sad to hear Christopher Sheldrake say in a recent interview that Hyacinth isn’t used in fragrances as it once was. This wasn’t a surprise and it makes sense given that it’s associated with vintage perfume but I still love it and am thrilled when I see it blooming this time of year💐

I’m not familiar with your fragrance and, given its unusual name, had to look it up. The notes sound good but the description doesn’t sound appealing – ‘sweet oily perfume of a garage and men at work.’ Since it’s a favorite of yours, I’m curious how you would describe it. I love hyacinths (and many of Tauer’s scents) but hyacinth as a fragrance note is a bit too strong for me.

It’s an odd one for sure and I like the smell of garages so there’s that. But it’s definitely more hyacinth than garage to my nose but I don’t find the hyacinth overwhelming.

I will second allo’s comments about browsing the swapmeet. So many goodies for swap. I’ve got mostly discontinued vintages up for swap, all the 70s-90s divas, and there are various things I’m looking for but I am also very open to suggestions so come on down and offer away, people. We don’t bite. But some of our perfumes may have an animalic bite. Others not. I’m wearing Sarah Horowitz A Perfect Veil today. Very light musk, vanilla, spice. Like your skin but better is the tag line I think. I fell in love with this niche perfumer from L.A. the first time I tried this. Her Perfect Vanilla is also awfully good.

Continuing my love of patchouli in March, my SOTD is EL’s fruitchouli Pleasures Delight. Marshmallow, caramel and sugar sweeten the patchouli and although there are numerous floral midnotes I really don’t smell them. A little of everything in this one, suitable for a day that weatherwise has a little bit of everything – temps way up into the 60’s but plummeting later, rain with heavy thunderstorms later changing to snow into tomorrow. We’re supposed to get 2-4” of snow with a high of 26 tomorrow plummeting to 10 at night. Oy!

We were hoping to go to another informal concert tonight with our favorite banjo master but as it’s a distance away when the weather is supposed to be the worst, that’s doubtful. We may just watch the Oscars instead, even though we’ve only seen one of the movies and are not especially interested.

Sending stay safe wishes to all in the path of storms!🤞

    Spring break!🎉 Snow day!!❄️
We got the blizzard they warned us about overnight and shortly after I got up to get ready for work I got a text that my workplace is closed for the day. In almost 20 years of working for my company this has never happened. Of course the first almost 15 years were spent inpatient, and hospitals never close.
I have been sooo busy lately between work, the volunteer committee that I am on, school and personal life that a day off at home to do nothing but lounge around in my sweats bingeing Love Story (🫣I know, I know) is exactly what I needed. A gift from the weather gods.
Now for perfume….I think I’ll go with Mure et Musc.
Hope everyone in line for this storm stays safe out there!

A wild and crazy weather weekend here! On Saturday, it was 74 degrees. Then a huge front came roaring thru, quite literally, that night. Some rain started sometime after 9pm. By 1am, snow was falling horizontally. Nothing stuck, though.

Sunday was cold but clear. The mercury managed to creep up to 34 degrees F. More wind again, but not nearly as bad as previous days.

Today I am finally seeing seasonable temperatures around 50 degrees. But the weather rollercoaster isn’t finished yet. I will probably be complaining about excessive heat later on this week. Forecast is for temps in the mid 80’s by Friday. 🥵🥵🥵🥵

SOTD = Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions. I’ve been trying a bunch of IA samples from The Sample Stash over the weekend. Today’s pick is something I am enjoying. Didn’t care for A Whiff of Waffle Cone at all; it went pure immortelle on me. Not sure how I feel about Saint Julep.

I’m glad we skipped the concert last night and stayed home because for once the weather forecast was right – heavy rainfall, lots of lightning, flooded streets, strong gusty winds. Then snow during the night and bitter cold this morning.

I’m also glad I could stay home and ‘cocoon’ all day, and that aptly describes my SOTD, an oldie but goodie from YR, Neonatura Cocoon. Dry cacao, patchouli and vanilla, ❤️ this one, and I think it’s also a favorite of pyramus.

Looks like yesterday’s storms were headed to a wide swath of the East coast today – hope everyone stays safe. Spring is coming at the end of the week.🤞

Looking ahead to this week’s CP, I went searching my shelves on Fragrantica for hyacinth. YSL Y popped up and I remembered I’d recently got a vintage-ish bottle. I did not remember getting a mini edt too, but I found it before I found the bottle. I decanted it and generously sprayed. I’m not getting any floral notes so far. It is not an OG version from the ’60’s; box and juice seem new-looking. I will have to report back later, but I am enjoying the oak moss and galbanum. Happy Monday! I am watching the Swapmeet, and mulling over some offerings.

You smell great, mossyberry. And yes, hyacinth seemed to be in everything in the past. Capucchi Yendi, Guerlain Chamade, Chanel 19 and also I think Cristalle Edp, Ralph Lauren Safari for Women, White Linen, Anais Anais, Fidji, and a lot of the back-then cheaper drugstore perfumes. Maybe it’s having a revival these days.

Yesterday’s Y never did seem to reveal floral notes, but it is cold and dry here and of course one wearing never tells the story of a perfume. Thanks for the suggestions.
