Tuesday scent of the day 3/3

Posted by Robin on 3 March 2026 139 Comments

It's Tuesday and World Wildlife Day. Birthdays: Jean Harlow, Ira Glass. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm drinking tea (Upton Christmas Tea) but I'm wearing Comme des Garçons Kyoto to echo the coffee flavor in the Dude's signature cocktail, the White Russian aka the Caucasian.

Reminder: 3/6 is The Day of the Dude. Our community project: Take it easy, man. (This is a repeat from 2020.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is White Russians in Bar Lebowski [cropped] by Mark Longair at flickr; some rights reserved. (And do check out the list of White Russian variations at Lebowski Bar in Reykjavik.)

    Hello.
Sotd is Guerlain Santal Royal. A typical oud-rose but no barnyardy filth and is elegantly done. I also have a spritz of Dior Rose Star on my right arm to test but verrry meh and not impressed at all.
Has anyone tried Dior’s Cuir Saddle?

    Tea is Oolong vanilla

Had a successful perfume swap- I was borrowing Do Son EdT from a friend, and they really wanted my BR540 (which was less than half full and rarely worn). So we traded — now I have Do Son EdT, and they have their dream bottle. Everyone wins.
Volunteering later on this afternoon on this dreadful gray day — though if we lived with the Addams Family, they’d call it glorious! Just rewatched the animated film.

That was a great swap! Do son is beautiful-I’ve only had samples. I really enjoy it as the shower oil product. A few years ago it was presented in a blue bottle and I thought it was a particularly beautiful colour. Enjoy your new scent in the best of health.

Good morning, I in a beautiful world of Chanel 1932. Remnants of my scent bubble from yesterday (I’m off, just woke up and having coffee, no shower yet) plus another tiny spritz on the wrist from when I just woke up. It all comes from my newly-purchased, beautifully macerated and saturated in color bottle of 1932 that was acquired from a fellow collector and it was originally purchased exactly on the date of its release in 2016!!
In terms of longevity it’s a BEAST. I put it on my wrists at 6pm last night and when I smelled my wrist at 11pm it was THERE the same way that it was when I first applied it. I wrote a review of 1932 on one of these professional blogs (I do that for fun, I just Google perfume reviews on my fragrances) and one blogger wrote that after 5 minutes She forgot She even had it on. At this point I stopped reading.
5 hours in and 1932 smelled EXACTLY as if I had just applied it, unchanged and in it’s all full glory.
I also googled “1932 dupe” for no other reason but also for fun (I don’t intend to really look for a dupe, I just wanted to see what are some other suggestions) and AI came up with some generic perfume oils and a suggestion of… Chanel’s own Paris-Venise. I chuckled because I had already said that!! No, they are not exactly the same – Venise has neroli that 1932 lacks and 1932 also feels “cooler” but to scratch that iris-musk itch – Venise is a great alternative!! They are in similar vein is what I’m trying to say.
Can someone explain the CP, please? Are we supposed to wear something “relaxed” in feel?
Also when will the swap meet take place, any ideas yet? Thank You in advance!!

Ohhhhh we are talking about the Big Lebowski? I LOVE it. I watched it with my mouth wide open because they used to make FUNNY comedies in the 90s. I super enjoyed the Big Lebowski movie so so so so much. So much that I googled the genre. I also love Jim Carrey movies too.

I cannot even comprehend parents that are so… (fill in the blank with the most positive adjectives) amazing, cool and awesome to not only gift a Chanel perfume of such caliber but also to acknowledge our perfume passion in such a way!! Just wow.

I am sorry but may I ask about what was the occasion/situation in which one receives a bottle of Cuir de Russie from their parents? Ok most parents know what Chanel is but what level of knowledge/sophistication that they didn’t just buy Chanel #5 or Coco Mademoiselle… Or a Sephora gift card. How does it happen that one can have such amazing parents that they actually knew about the existence not of just Chanel as a brand but… Of Cuir de Russie? I am just so curious about more details.

I had received a note from my SA, and my father always claims he never knows what to buy me. So I told him lol. We’re usually way more low key but for whatever reason he agreed. It took me forever to open it, and I just think it’s a very special scent. It doesn’t smell like BDI at all. It’s a deep rich substantial leather. This morning was -22 here, and at that temperature I really noticed the floral aspect of the leather. To me it smells deep and rich and clean, and a tiny bit barnyard, because of a hay and slightly animalic note. Hope this helps 🙂

Still in a bit of brain fog from the food poisoning incident over the weekend, but am feeling almost normal otherwise. SOTM is Memoirs of a Trespasser, for the Dude’s bowling alley. Huh, you say? Well, my mom married my dad (stepdad, but I call him Dad) when I was 12, after they’d been dating a scant 6 weeks. My mom told me that he had proposed while she and I were sitting in the little cafe thing that’s always in a bowling alley while he and my soon-to-be 3 brothers (longer story) were bowling, and I remember the scent of chalk dust, leather bowling shoes and newspapers in the air. Memoirs has a very similar vibe with its well-worn leather chairs and book dust.

I’m so sorry about your food poisoning SheriG, so horrendously unpleasant, and I love your scent of the day with its associations.
I’m just catching up on the weekend posts and the Afternoon of a Faun scene and so I’m here to say that if I had any, I’d be wearing that one from Etat Libre D”Orange, LesLiesse. It also made me think that any violet scent would work for Jesus’s jumpsuit, which made SUCH an impression when I first saw TBL. I kindof wanted one for myself in exactly that color, actually. I have not yet decided what I will wear today, but we’re taking doggo for her walk so I’ll think on it. We live about 8 houses down from some mountains/hills and last week a mountain lion snatched a shi-tsu from a lady walking her dog on a leash 6 blocks away at 11:30 at night. Our dog is 70 lbs but I still worry and especially when she’s outside, as she likes to be sometimes. Our 6 ft. fence would prove no obstacle to a big agile cat.

Ack — poor shi-tzu! Even poorer owner, that’s traumatic. Reminded me of a night while I was living on that lagoon-slash-bird preserve in Playa Del Rey, when my cat got loose (jumped off a second story balcony, the little idiot) and went missing for 12 hours. It rained all night, and while I was out there calling to my cat some woman in the apartments next door helpfully leaned out her window to tell me all about the hawks that would swoop down and grab any unsuspecting pets that they saw. So sweet. I found my cat, alive but reeking of sewer water, the next morning. He survived for another year, but that night took its toll on us both — he never made it out onto that balcony again!

Food poisoning can have super serious consequences. I did a project on it for a nutrition course I took thirty years ago, and I still remember the research I did on it and what I learned. I’m glad you’re on the mend and I liked the story you told us about your family:)

I’ve been reading about food poisoning and its potential for long-term consequences, so I’m being very careful and watchful. I’ve always been fairly healthy, but turning 70 recently has made me pay more attention to seemingly small things. Like handrails, which have become my favorite things on stairs!

Had some high winds usher in cooler temps yesterday, so I’m still firmly fixated on amber-ish and warm cozy perfumes. Today, it DSH Chinchilla from a travel spray purchased many moons ago. While no amber is listed in the notes, and it’s described as a “floriental honey/musk fragrance,” it reads and wears like a cozy hug. A bit of barnyard funk in the best way has me huffing down the front of my sweater…I think The Dude would approve because he seems as though he might be trailing a bit of funk himself. 😉

Tea of the day is scorching coffee with a homemade Egg McMuffin. Picked up the final book of my Sebastian Barry collection last night after not reading a physical book in months. He’s as good as it gets, and I like to read slowly, close the book at certain passages that prompt big feelings and leaky eyes, and just glory in the fact that some folks out there are Wizards of the Word. I wish I was one of them, but alas I must sit back and admire that skill set from afar.

    Stay safe!

So which Barry are you reading — are you doing them in order? I see he has another coming later this year.

I have not had a real MickyDs Egg McMuffin in over 10 years and just reading the words brought the exact taste instantly to mind…that seems sadly corporate, doesn’t it? That nothing is else is just that flavor? I can still “taste” diet coke in my mind too, and I gave those up years ago too.

Hope your home made version was more delicious.

Currently reading On Canaan’s Side. And no, I read them completely out of order, unintentionally. He has some stand alone novels that I read in between my out of order shenanigans. There’s no rhyme or reason to me in general. Glad to hear he has a new one coming out, thanks for the heads up.

A quote for you, Robin: “Do you have any Kahlua?”

Today I am wearing L’Arte di Gucci for Maude. I think it suits her style, and she even speaks Italian in one scene.

-Maude Lebowski: Does the female form make you uncomfortable, Mr. Lebowski?
-The Dude: Uh, is that what this is a picture of?
-Maude Lebowski: In a sense, yes. My art has been commended as being strongly vaginal, which bothers some men.

We had a cloud, ess sky last night and so I had a wonderful view of the Luna eclipse, a rusty orange circle in the sky to the north while Orion twinkled to the south. My neighbour’s car alarm went off around 2am so I got up and had a second look at the moon as it was moving out of the shadow. Wearing moonlight Patchouli today and about to walk the dog. Lots of fallen acorns on the ground now and bright red or glossy black rosehips on all the heritage bushes in the cemetery. Definitely chillier, too.

Ok this time my REALLY last purchase of Chanel arrived… It needs to be the last purchase for a while, I’m serious.
I bid on 35ml of Gabrielle and won!! The bottle arrived just now.
Gabrielle… I love it. I was never ever white-florak type a gal but with Chanel one cannot stop them self. Gabrielle is the white cotton shirt drying in the sunshine – for me
Just a few minutes ago I opened the box and… held my breath. What is this?! I thought that the seller accidentally sent me a 10ml mini of Gabrielle square bottle. (I have purchased the long, travel sprays and samples of Gabriele and L’Eau and that’s how I came to love it).
I inspected it closely and there it was… It was 35ml!!
Generally speaking I have always, always loved my perfume bottles to be smaller. My favorite are something between 15 to 35ml.
Chanel makes some really cute small bottles for Chance flankers and I love tossing them in my purse. But this Gabrielle bottle takes the cake. It is so tiny BUT it definitely holds the correct amount of juice. Initially I was about to reach out to the seller to tell them they made a mistake!!
Thankfully I already had a 10ml square bottle mini of Gabrielle pure parfum – and when I put that next to the new Gabrielle 35ml I realized I was wrong. I love that bottle of Gabrielle I just got so much. So small but, feels like a mini, and it holds an ounce of juice!! Amazing. Too perfect for my taste.
I have been eyeing the 35ml of Gabrielle pure parfum for a while. I can’t buy it right now, I spent my entire perfume budget but I definitely will one day.
Kenzo Jungle also arrived and I cannot wait to see my friend. She complained no perfume lasts on Her. This is to knock Her off Her socks. My friend loves oriental, spicy, woody and heavy perfumes. I am so sure this will be the perfect match. The elephant bottle is also so gorgeous!!
It’s my day off and since my child is in school my Mother and I groomed our little dog. It was a tragedy!! She kicks, cries and twists uncontrollably but we got it taken care of. After cleaning up I jumped in the shower and decided to wear 1932 again (cannot stay away) but I decided to kill my sample first. Well I put 3 sprays on, and this stuff is STRONG, I already talked about how long it lasts. I made a mistake and went back to the box and I was just being greedy – I decided to spritz one more spray. 2 seconds later I realized my mistake. The last spritz I have mistakenly used Boy instead. I am sorry but these two do not go together. I love each one with passion but I absolutely loathed the combined effect. I felt like I wasted these precious drops. The cloud I am in is now nondescript Chanel mess. I will rate 1932 11/10 and Boy also 11/10 but when they combine – it makes me angry. It’s like I smell each one of them but because they are combined mistakenly I am not getting a normal wear out of them.
Actually I was never into fragrance blending for some reason. I have nothing against it with others and read some wonderful articles on some supposedly amazing pairings but it never spiked my curiosity. Maybe I am old fashioned that way because I simply expect my perfume to be a “complete” project.
A note about parents who get their kids the”right” gifts by being not only so kind, loving and generous but also being able to really listen and pay attention to their loved one’s desires. I want to be that parent. If my Daughter gets into Legos or perfumes or jewelry – I will try to be that parent that listens. She is into Lilo & Stitch right now and I am being supportive.

Something you might want to mention to your friend about The Elephant: it gets better with age, as long as it is stored properly away from heat and light.

Wearing Chanel Beige, as yesterday I was talking to a friend about dithering over buying it, and how it went up at least $100 during the dither. We were also talking about magnetized caps on fancy lipsticks, and Beige’s cap is also magnetized.

That’s how dithering goes these days! I can’t tell you how many fragrances I thought were just a bit too expensive 15 years ago, and now, of course…

Oh the magnetized caps on Chanel lipsticks and bottles of Exclusifs are absolutely amazing. They are so well made and on these already fancy products – they seal the deal for a luxurious feel. I thought magnetized caps would be heavy and *clunky* but they are not. They smoothly, very smoothly slip on and lock in. Instead of gold flakes flowing around the bottle or crystals and sapphires adoring the flacons, Chanel makes this quiet but ultra-luxury statement with these.
Beige – magnificent. The “dramatic” floral in a positive meaning of the word. All my life I considered myself ORIENTAL perfume kinda a gal but with Chanel’s UNboring florals – and how they sing on the skin with their beautiful notes – it’s like the beauty of Chanel perfumes is exaggerated. Can the beauty even be exaggerated? Yes it can. With Chanel.

SOTD = Aftelier Patchouli Noir EDP

Whatever dude, I am wearing what I want! 🤣

Thanks to everyone for sending best wishes to my nephew. He has a lot going on (all good) and it sounds so exciting. He and my sister will be on their way to Paris sometime this evening and once they return, he will be off on a weeklong trip to drive to LA. Oh to be young again!

In other news, I know most have cats and some have dogs or both. This gift article is from The New York Times, specifically related to dogs. My opinion is that this could apply to cats as well although I have never seen a leashed cat 🐈 🐈‍⬛:

We have a leashed cat in the neighbourhood. But I guarantee the owner’s not getting any of the benefits listed in that article from dogs (basically, increased activity). It’s the slowest “walk” I’ve ever seen, more about kitty wandering and sniffing and looking around.

I think cats have to do more with stress reduction. Watching my cat clean herself reduces my stress immeasurably. Also, she is an inspiration to us all: rest more, purr more.

We tried a couple of times with our kitty, thinking we could let her out on the back patio on a leash. She gets REALLY low to the ground when she has the harness on, and slinks around in embarrassment. 🙂 Also she figured out how to get out of it. So no back yard for her!

SOTD is Gucci Winter’s Spring because the weather in NJ can’t seem to make up its mind. Saturday was like early Spring, and today there was sleet. This is basically mimosa and musk so I get to pretend it is Spring.

Today’s tea is Harney & Sons Chocolate, which I don’t like as much as Clipper Ship’s Chocolate Pu’er but smells great with the mimosa I’m wafting around the office.

My company has increased the number of days we need to be in the office, without increasing the office space to accommodate it. There is lots of grumbling and gaming the system to reserve solo offices. My particular form of protest/tactical move will be wearing whichever the heck perfume I want with at least eight sprays. Hopefully that is enough to chase out would-be daily office mates. 😂

Good for finding a workaround! On the increasing number of in-office days, my company had been moving towards fewer seats for the population since 2017, expecting people to “naturally” gravitate towards taking time off … except, in never really works out that way.

They will never get as many people taking time off on random Tuesdays as they do on summer Fridays. “Planning” as if they would is magical thinking!

My company’s magical thinking is that people are happy to work at library table style set ups in a big open area. Nope. We all want offices with doors or or cubicles with walls!

When March arrives, although not much is visible in my garden yet, I’m aware of the new cycle of life beginning just beneath the earth’s surface, resulting in my love of patchouli and green notes in my March fragrances. My SOTD, another oldie but YR goodie, is Moment de Bonheur. Although it’s recommended for autumn, its patchouli bottom and green top notes accenting the beautiful Rosa Centifolia make it perfect for Spring. Annick Menardo is the perfumer, and I really like many of her creations.

And what’s more indicative of Spring than another seed swap, this one at our own library tonight. Looking forward to sharing lots of milkweed and other seeds with fellow gardeners. Soon we’ll be starting some indoors. 🌱 Yes!

Happy National Wildlife Day! We gave the beautiful critters that grace our backyard with their presence extra treats today. 🐦‍⬛🐿️

No, I did not, thank you for the info. Good to know, although we have lots of milkweed in various spots so I doubt they’d ever run out. Plus I believe they only lay their eggs in milk wood which is why I planted it in the first place.

The Day of the Dude! Without knowing the CP, I’m probably somewhat compliant in a Wild Coast Perfumery sample: Carmanah. Pretty much anything from them is based on that laid-back West Coast vibe.

Yesterday I wore Wild Coast Island Wildflowers and while there is (surprisingly, given the kitchen sink) apparently NO overlap between notes in it and classic Poison, the opening still says Poison to me.

I will have to think about how else to scent Big Lebowski. Scenting German nihilists? Pretty sure I could figure that out somehow. And Maude! I don’t have many scents for Bunny, though.

Ockeghem Teen keeps asking us to watch this movie, but I’m just not sure she’d get it yet. But, she wants a film studies minor (if not major) in university and keeps begging us to watch classics, so maybe on Friday?

Today is also Hinamatsuri, or Girls’ Day, in Japan. In Colorado, today is 303 Day, which is an unofficial holiday and a sly wink at Colorado history.

Much cooler here along the Front Range. Actually had some very light rain showers in the area this morning. Unfortunately they didn’t amount to much. Still a good day to make a quick batch of chili.

Hoping that predictions of rain later on this week are accurate. 🤞🤞

Tonight, I took out all my spring/summer fragrances as it looks like the weather is going to be in the 50’s and 60’s all week. I don’t know if it will stay that way, but I can always grab a heavier scent if needed. Needless to say, I don’t see any “dude-like” scents in the bunch so will just wear what I want this week.

Ok so I just found a 35ml Gabrielle extrait and I paid just $82 (second hand but sprayed just 10 times) looks absolutely authentic and legit. I was going to purchase Gabrielle extract eventually anyways and I was ready, yes I was ready, to pay the $385 for it or whatever the price was. Instead of buying it at almost $400 in the future – I snagged it now for under $100. But really, this time I am done. At least for a couple of months or a few months. I maybe only treat myself to a sample of something if I find what I’m looking for. But no more bottles of perfume – no more for now.
