Lazy 3-day weekend poll ~ open thread, February into March 2026

Posted by Robin on 28 February 2026 172 Comments

It's the weekend! Saturday is the last day of February, and Sunday — rabbit rabbit rabbit! — is the first day of March, and if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, the first day of meteorological spring...right on time, I have snowdrops blooming in my front yard. (The equinox is not until March 20.) PSA: the next swapmeet starts on the 14th of March.

We're honoring all of it with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you'll wear just as soon as your local weather permits, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

The amber CP had me thinking about what perfumes I have with amber notes, even if they don’t helpfully have “amber” in their name. Today I am wearing Under My Skin.

    Sotd Jo Malone Mimosa &Cardamom.

Beautiful sunny day in the upper 40s today. Then back to cold temps and snow tomorrow.
Having my usual second cup of coffee and on my way out to run some errands and enjoy the weather.
    Happy weekend, everyone! 🌞

We had a lovely walk in the woods this morning listening to the birds chirping. 🐦‍⬛ It’s been quite a warm winter here and we stayed on well traveled paths because even though it gets very cool at night, I’m sure the danger noodles are awake and looking sluggishly for sunshine during the day.

Continuing my amber journey with a classic spicy Amber that’s kind of a kitchen sink sort of thing. It’s big, bodacious, and beautiful. A powerhouse that projects to the far corners of world and lasts forever. Still available online for about $50 at different discounters. What a gem.

Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant. ❤️ Currently is USFS campground up in the mountains and I’m quite sure the entire campground is getting a whiff. They’re so blessed! 🐘

    Stay safe!

Anyway. I haven’t posted for a couple of days so here is my amber rundown. Obsession Sheer, then BK Amber Oud, then SL Ambre Sultan and tomorrow, Mxxx.

I’m wearing some vintage sandalwood oil from a miniature vial (maybe 4 ml) that I picked up at a flea market. I think it’s Mysore, it’s got that buttery, milky, woody smell. This stuff used to be cheap as chips before we, humanity, ruined a good thing and India had to ban the export of Mysore sandalwood oil due to deforestation. Interestingly, my vial bears the name of a defunct Buddhist temple in Los Angeles. I imagine this being sold in their gift store decades ago and then when the temple closed down, languishing in someone’s closet or storage unit until it somehow wended its way to the flea market. The seller couldn’t tell me anything about it, it was jumbled in with a bunch of empty bottles and ancient skincare samples. I kindof like the mystery of it.

Does it have a colorful label? Because I had a vial (more like a tiny miniature bottle, probably 4 ml) like that but can’t remember what temple it was from.

Hi Robin, no, not a colorful bottle. just a clear glass bottle (looks like one of those rectangular Fracas or Bandit minis) with a white label that says “Oriental Sandalwood Spiritual Body Oil” and on the side it says “Kanzeonji Non-Sectarian Buddhist Temple” with an address in the now-hipster enclave of Highland Park in L.A. And when I look up this temple, it doesn’t exist anymore and google street view shows what appears to be a residential bungalow though it’s hard to tell because it’s behind a fence and shrouded with trees. I think they also used to hold yoga and other types of classes there but who knows how long ago. There was also a frankincense oil and a partial myrrh oil and I got those too.

Wow, Robin, your snowdrops are blooming already! Mine are still just coming up, no other signs of life yet in the garden. We’re back to cold temps and some rain/snow flurries today and the next few days, so I’m really glad we got out and enjoyed yesterday’s Spring weather. Today we’re staying home and getting caught up on stuff.

SOTD for the last of the amber cp is Coty Emeraude layered over BBW’s Frosted Winter Woods, a nice harmonizing duo of citrus, woody and green.❤️

Yesterday’s Richard II was very interesting. It was part of the Shakespeare Project’s 31st Theatrical Reading Season in which there were no costumes or scenery, very little music, and the actors read the script (Shakespeare’s original play) while they acted out their parts dressed in modern clothing, although some made an attempt to somewhat reflect the era in their attire. A dramaturge gave an overview of the plot and history behind the story prior to the start of the play. All in all, it was very effective, entertaining, and educational (and free at the library). I’ll certainly be going to the next one.

    Happy weekend to all!

Still riding the amber train! Choo Choo!

Today is another spiced amber, but the complete antithesis of yesterday’s l’Elephant. On me it’s primarily an incense perfume, but there are many layers here. Besides, it says “amber” in the perfume notes so I’m going with it because I WANT to wear it and I’m good at fitting a square peg in a round hole. 🙃

It’s a refined, reserved perfume. It’s not trumpeting to the sky like l’Elephant. Nope, it’s ancient and wise and just a bit holy. I’m ignorant of so many things in this life, including Ayurvedic Traditions, which apparently inspired this perfume. To me, it smells like an ancient landscape discovered under heap of sand somewhere in a hot country. Under all that sand is buried color, texture, culture, and history. The scent is a bit dusty, the tiniest bit sweet, and reminds me whole heartedly of this artist and song I discovered in the lost days of my youth when I was on a mission to explore world music and traditions. I absolutely loved the way she brought two disparate belief systems together musically. I think NVC has done the same thing with this fragrance.

Happy Sunday and stay safe out there!

I’ve really been enjoying Amber week and mulling over the upcoming “Take it easy, man” theme. It strikes me as the perfect CP for this particular week.

I’m wearing FM Une Fleur de Cassie this morning and it’s having a very calming effect.

I’m also excited to try some new spice racks for my perfume bottles. They have a lip whereas my current ones do not. I know it won’t make a difference in a big earthquake but the lip allows me to “take it easy, man” a little bit more😌

We just came back from a long long road trip. Stressful and long. During the trip I opted for Boy. My decant is now half gone. I have been obsessing over Both the whole month of February. I very often put a tiny spritz of Jersey on the other arm and keep comparing, keep obsessing, keep enjoying. I cannot decide which I like better. Jersey is the absolute holy Grail of a lavender fragrance I have been looking for all my life. Boy is a surprise, initially a sample received as a gift with the purchase of Beige Extrait. Boy is described as a albeit mild, but still barber shop style herbal cologne. When I read the list of notes for Boy before trying it along with the reviews (I read reviews and googled about every single perfume that has ever been made by Chanel) I always skipped getting a sample of it – too many other Exclusifs still to try, and Boy’s description sounded like it would have been some musculine barber shop cologne style. That’s why it was a surprise. And total obsession for me. I feel like a better version of me when I wear Boy. I feel like it is totally a “me” perfume. Just I love smelling it on me and around me. So light but long lasting, powdery, fluffy, amazing. Jersey is the epitome of lavender for me. I keep thinking that for every day wear Boy feels just perfect. I could not just bathe – I could swim in Boy!! Jersey is fantastic too. Queen of lavender. Both are masterpieces. I got an idea: Boy for day and out and about and Jersey for when going out!!
But before I get bottles of Boy and Jersey (I can’t keep on keeping on spending money on Exclusifs in such a short frame of time) I have my bottle of 1932 arriving and cannot wait when it gets here!! It looks like it will be in my loving arms on March the 3rd. 1932 was the first Exclusif (not counting my signature all time favorite #18 and #22 – I don’t even count them as perfumes, I count them as a part of me – I guess I am truly crazy in my perfume obsession) that knocked me off my socks, smacked me in my face and awoke me from a slump. I have been wanting 1932 for so long.

Chanel is an easy house to get obsessed with. I went head over heels for Le Lion a couple months back when I found the dregs of a decant from a few years ago. 🤷‍♀️ Essence-tially Dacob is a good YouTuber to watch b/c he’s super into Chanel and quite knowledgeable about batch codes, versions, EDTs vs. EDPs, etc….no affiliation. 🐇 🕳️ 😉

When I tried Le Lion I was immediately reminded of Shalimar. I stayed away from anything Chanel for 20 years because I wanted to find *my* niche house, something unique. Chanel seemed like the most popular perfume house in the world and therefore… banal. But every time I complimented someone of smelling good – like really good – it was always Chanel. I finally understood it really is the best fragrance house, classic, and so popular for a reason, oh so classic.
I need not look no further. Trying most of the Chanel lineup just confirmed it.
Of course I have watched Dacob and yes He is really really good at describing Chanel fragrances. His passion is like music to my ears.

Sorry to everyone for long posts on the same thing over and over but I am truly so obsessed with these perfumes. I am enjoying them so deeply. I sniff them so much. Every time I move – my veil just gives me so much pleasure. During the road trip, some 20 hours into the trip and since the last application of Boy I could still enjoy that beautiful perfume frame that was emanating from me and my clothes. These Chanel Exclusif fragrances – they really are something. For anyone liking any of these Chanel Exclusif fragrances that are so expensive for me and many others – but they truly are worth every penny. I have read a few times when people complained a certain Exclusif “was too fleeting, not long enough lasting”. I have to disagree. They last beautifully and deserve all due respect. They are masterpieces.

The other day I wore Chanel Gabrielle (regular EdP) and I have previously decided that I really like Gabrielle L’Eau. I have a Gabrielle EdP 10ml spray and it was collecting dust. I took it for a spin and was delighted with it. It may seem like a boring, mass-appealing fragrance for a broader audience, but it is crafted with the finest of ingredients and oils and so pleasing. I tried and bid on a 1.2 oz bottle of Gabrielle EdP on Evilbay and won!! Sometimes I go on the Chanel website and look at the Gabrielle Parfum. $385 for a beautiful parfum bottle. I am sure it smells divine.
My birthday is coming in June and I think Gabrielle Parfum sounds like the perfect gift I could get myself for myself.

Sunny day here, and I can walk short distances without a coat. I’ll take it! I cleaned up the garden a bit yesterday, and cleaned the windows today.

I did do the CP yesterday, as I tried AbdesSalaam’s Amber base from the kit. It’s a nice one, and I liked the cinnamon in it. Today I’m trying Wild Coast Perfumery’s Saltspring, which at first absolutely nails the scent of a high-ish end boutique in that formerly hippie enclave or in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. (I’m not sure that’s what they’re going for, but it does make some sense if it’s called Saltspring.) I’m liking it better in the drydown, when the vanilla is more dominant.

Curious about the kit you mention…is it designed as sample size stand alone perfumes or is it meant to be an exercise in layering? I bought a few samples of that brand years ago and really enjoyed them but got a bit overwhelmed with all the choices and (at the time) poor website construction.

It’s a kit of fragrance bases that I learned about through Luca Turin’s blog. Dominique Dubrana recently has been teaching more than creating new scents, I gather. According to LT, he made these for a client and then sent them to LT, and Luca asked him to make them available. They’re meant to be worn alone or layered, though I find the layering is fantastic. The quality is impeccable and I’ve been really enjoying the kit: https://naturalnicheperfume.com/shop/uncategorized/kit-of-perfumery-bases/

🐇 🐇 🐇 Sampling Hyper Cuir today and marketing from their website is below…vanilla is my signature trail too. 🤣 I like it…more suede than leather and description is reasonable. 😉

Like a leather jacket whose patina evokes a familiar embrace, comes a powerful Saffiano leather worked in contrast with an essence of lemon, illuminated by the freshness of jasmine. As lively as a first touch, this polymorphous perfume is warmed by a final breath of vanilla, the signature trail of the Courrèges style.

A surprise gift from Mother Nature today: it was supposed to be cold, cloudy, with rain/snow flurries beginning last night into today. But instead, the cold was offset by a clear blue sky most of the day – not a drop of rain and not one snowflake – and brilliant 🌞 shine. We changed our plans and dipped in the hot tub for some Vitamin D and treated ourselves to breakfast at our favorite local diner.

SOTD is JM BlackBerry & Bay, fresh yet somehow earthy, and not sweet, very nice for today’s weather. Heading out soon for another concert featuring another of our favorite local folk musicians who is a banjo master extraordinaire!

    Happy March (finally)! 🍀🌿🌱

    SOTD is Shalimar L’Essence.

After seeing Lillyjo’s review on Balmain Destin, I was so curious to try it. They finally got it in at our Ulta stores and I broke down and bought it. It is being compared to a lot of different perfumes. I find it to be a nice strawberry/peony mix with patchouli at the base of it. I am terrible at describing perfumes so suggest that anyone that likes these notes and floral/fruity scents, to give it a try.

    Rabbit rabbit rabbit!

Cloudy day here. Plenty of virga in the area but no rain. “What’s virga?” you may ask. Another name for it is ‘dry storms’ where rain is falling but evaporates before it reaches the ground.

SOTWeekend = ETRO Ambra. It’s a lovely lightweight amber that shines in these Springlike temps. A lucky blind buy for me.

When virga happens, it’s raining. But the rain doesn’t reach the ground because the air is so dry it evaporates before it hits the ground.

Dry thunderstorms are a different thing.

Starting off a week of The Big Lebowski inspired scents. I rewatched because I needed some laughs and that film goes bonkers several times most enjoyably.

Sotd Oribe Desertland for the film’s opening shots of tumbleweed rolling across the desert outside Los Angeles proper where the film is set.

Getting ready for work and I am torn between no. 19 and Allure Sensuelle. But since we were doing amber for CP (maybe we still are in the Amber CP?) I will go with the latter.
I purchased an Allure pure parfum and seller surprised me with a brand new, authentic but vintage no. 19 – full 100ml of it!! I couldn’t believe it!! The bottle was completely brand new and in perfect condition but definitely vintage maybe from the 90’s? And the juice smelled as fresh as the day it was released, but it has that geranium depth.

Got a lot of minor chores and fixes done this weekend in Biggie Smols, availed myself to the big dumpster here, and took the bull by the horns for a chore that was a bit terrifying to do because if I screwed it up, I’d be hand cranking my 4 Happi Jacks up and down into eternity. I’d put it off forever, fearing the worst. Happily, I was successful. What a relief. 😅

Still kind of on the amber train but made a quick stop to pick up The Dude. Ummagumma doesn’t have amber listed in the notes but it still feels like an incensey amber to me, and I’m sure The Dude would approve because it’s a very easy scent. I bought this in Portland at Fumerie when it first came out, and back in the day when I used to post my SOTD on IG, Bruno DM’d me “That’s the original bottle!” I guess the bottle artwork changed..? I don’t know, but so happy to have this full sized bottle. Top tier, imo.

My favorite line ever from The Big Lebowski, and one I often say in my head when people direct their mean girl energy towards me:

What I mean by extremely long lasting – it means that four hours in – fragrance seems to be very well established and just wafting from me. After 8 hours it is still there and noticeable. Shirts in the laundry basket will wait until the wash is done. Then it vanished – only after shower and after clothes wash.

Sotd has been Allure Sensuelle. Whenever I have an Allure Sensuelle day, I spray it all over myself (not with abandon or anything what I mean is that I simply spritz some on) and then I also use a tiny roller-ball with it to dab a little extra on my wrist and smear it. Reason is this – the now considered vintage Allure Sensuelle in these roller-balls is of superb lasting power. It “locks” the scent in for the whole day. One seller had several of these cuties, I believe they were gift with purchase samples in these beautiful black lace, sheer pouches. After my little roller-ball arrived and I tried it on, and it lasted like over 10 hours on my skin, I ended up buying all the rest of these from that seller.
My bottle of 1932 has arrived!! I can’t believe that 1932 isn’t raved about more than it is. It is probably the most beautiful, in that exact sense of the word, Chanel perfume that there is. If Coromandel or Sycomore is the beast, 1932 is the Beauty of the lineup!!

I’ve been sampling a ton of stuff this morning so the only scent of the day so far is unidentified mixture in which amber dominates. But eventually I’ll shower, and just thinking out loud about Dude week, The Big Lebowski drank white Russians so any perfume with a milky lactonic note or a coffee/boozy Kahlua note would work. I suspect that The Dude was pretty weed-adjacent, so that note would work. Coze by Parfumerie Generale has a weed note. Yup, that’s what I’m going to wear. Coze it is.
Other possibilities: An avant-garde German perfume for the German anarchist collective; a soothing incense scent for Walter, who needs to chill out; a lavender scent for John Turturro’s Jesus in that pastel lavender jumpsuit. The smell of old leather shoes and black rubber mats in the bowling alley suggests Bulgari Black and a zillion leather scents. The movie is a huge favorite at our house so I’m sure I’ll think of more ideas to get me through this week.

What a treat to start the week with a Monday that featured a clear blue sky and bright 🌞 that’s lasted all day, with temps climbing into the 40’s. I was inspired to mirror that bright sun in a yellow shirt and socks (a color I never wear in winter) and in my SOTD, the yellow Mimosa scent from Yves Rocher’s long ago Pur Desir line. Pur Desir de Mimosa is a bright yellow floral with a few green and fruity notes added. Can you tell I’m thinking Spring? 💛🌟🌝🌼🌙

Have we ever had a community project featuring a mimosa note? I don’t think so, so I’d like to suggest one.

Here’s hoping the ☀️ shines on all of you this week!

The full moon rising tonight is absolutely gorgeous. Hope you were able to see it.

Yes, I saw it because it’s still clear. Am hoping to catch the eclipse and the ‘blood moon’, but of course, anytime there’s a celestial happening, we’re supposed to have clouds at that time.

So oddly, it’s on my list of notes we have done but I cannot find the date of the actual project. I’ve added it for 3/27.

Thanks Robin! I don’t remember it but maybe it’s before my time.

What a nutty Monday I have had!

I guess I should start at the beginning with the crazy drivers on the roads. The worst offender was someone who had taken a turn wide and was driving towards opposing traffic for a bit. Guess who the opposing traffic was? 😲😬

My dentist appointment (that I was driving to) was supposed to be just an ordinary cleaning. It was, until the power went out close to the end of my appointment. The situation was so ridiculous that all I could do was laugh. The building doesn’t have a generator.

SOTD = back in ETRO Ambra again.

That is a crazy day! I’m glad you managed to avoid the wrong way driver.

I didn’t even mention all the crazy. Figured you all needed a break from me ranting. 🤪🤣

Oh my goodness! That’s incredibly scary. Glad you’re OK.

Re: your cleaning. I remember my physiotherapist said sometimes you’re the fly, sometimes you’re the windshield. So true!

The intersection I was stopped at had traffic my direction set back. So the bad driver had time to correct course and get their butt where they belonged. More annoying to me than scary.

You are absolutely kidding me!! We never think about those things until they happen to us… In a dentist chair, nearing the end of an appointment and the power goes out … No generator in the building (of course not – not since YOU had to be in that dentist chair). I would have been laughing too, I’m the same as You in these kind of situations…

The only thing I can think of is that a car hit a power pole or a junction box. The weather was nice today. At least I wasn’t getting a cavity filled or something like that!!

SOTD is 1947, by Christian Dior. Very lovely! I’m in Barcelona right now, resisting the temptation to visit lovely perfume stores, lol.
