Tuesday scent of the day 2/3

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2026 113 Comments

It's (Teapot) Tuesday and National Carrot Cake Day. Birthdays: Charles Henry Turner, Gertrude Stein, Alvar Aalto, Mabel Mercer, Simone Weil, Nathan Lane. What fragrance are you wearing?

I have just about zero interest in sports and winter, but I am playing along with the community project by copying DeniseH's Monday pick: Fendi Theorema.

Reminder: 2/6 is the opening day of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Do absolutely whatever you like with the theme: scent a winter sport? Wear something Italian to celebrate the location? Wear something to support your country's team? Or, pick a fragrance to honor your utter lack of interest in sports, or winter, or both. (Suggested by LesLiesse.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Skier Teapot, Small ("The inspiration and imagery for Skiers China came from ‘Crowded Slopes’, an award-winning photograph taken by designer Dede Johnston in 2008 in Courchevel, France") is $278 at Gorsuch. (There is a larger pot for $318, and matching dinnerware including cups, saucers and mugs.)

mmm, carrot cake, I make a killer one if I do say so myself.
    I’m in Glossier You.
This week is the first time in 3 weeks I’ve not worn long underwear to work. The beauty of wearing scrubs everyday is that it’s like wearing pajamas. The un-beauty is that they are paper thin and provide very little in the way of warmth.
I’ve noticed on both my morning and afternoon commutes that the days are getting longer.🌞

    Hello.
Sotd is Lush Candy Rain. This doesn’t smell like a copy of the conditioner sadly. It’s more medicinal, earthy and patchouli heavy. It’s not bad but I want the conditioner smell!
I am by nobody’s standard even a touch sporty or active. I’ll admit I look forward to winter Olympics only for the figure skating.

Sunday’s SOTD was Epic and yesterday’s SOTD was vintage BaV. Today, I am wearing Estee Lauder Pleasures because, why not? I might be working a 5 day stretch at work and a little bored with Infusion d’iris and Cheirosa 62 on work perfume.

Another big attack overnight – I heard the sounds in the distance. Once again, people are losing heating and power.

I’m wearing Lush The Olive Branch body spray for the CP, although I’ll layer it with something warmer later.

The connection is the olive branch used in the fire-lighting ceremony – the priestess gives it to the first torchbearer as a symbol of peace. In ancient times, wars stopped during the Olympics. 😭😭😭

Sotd Prada Infusion d’Oeillet for the CP.
Not interested in anything winter, especially with the brutal winter temperatures we have been experiencing for the past 3 weeks. I will just wear perfumes from Italian brands for the CP.

My rechargeable hand warmers stopped working yesterday after years of having them. I just ordered a new pair since they have been extremely helpful when working outdoors and commuting.
On my second cup of coffee and a couple of matcha madeleine cookies.

When I was young and the Olympics only came around once every four years and it was a big thing for my family. Not that any of us were sporty, mind you! But it was definitely family time in front of the TV admiring the athletes at peak performance. Good times! I’ll forever remember when the US Hockey team beat out Russia in the 80’s. My mother was a HUGE hockey, and specifically, Blackhawks fan. Her first date with my future father was a Blackhawks game in Chicago. She never let him forget he got seats in the nosebleed section. 😬 Anyway, that win had her (and many across the nation) ecstatic on so many levels.

Beautiful drive down from the mountains Sunday watching the toothy mountains turn from green to blue to grey in the distance like a watercolor scene. There must have been some good rains in last few weeks here because I’ve never seen the desert so green as it is right now. A few wildflowers blooming here and there add a touch of color and joy to the landscape. Full on sunshine with a temp that reached about 80F yesterday. *Almost* too warm for me but I’m getting some good vitamin D.

Predictably, I’m wearing L’Essence. I feel a THUNK! coming in the next week or so.

Stay safe, T-Rex and I are sending sun and warmth to those in need🌞

Deva, Netflix just put out a new documentary on the 1989 U.S. men’s hockey team. They do a good job of showcasing the surviving players now juxtaposed with their 1980 selves. They even interviewed Herb Brooks’s adult children. A THUNK in your future? That’s thrilling!

Not as viciously cold as it has been for the last week, but I’m still not going out in it. I’m warm and toasty in Bulgari Black.

Every now and then I just get it in my head to do something and this morning I thought with no precedent and no reason that I really needed to make myself a bowtie. I haven’t worn a tie in at least ten years and haven’t worn a (clip-on) bowtie since I was about six (there is photographic proof), but I had to anyway. When you have a sewing machine, nearly anything is possible, so I pulled out some red thread and fabric plus interfacing, made the tie, and then had to teach myself to tie it (which took a solid fifteen minutes). And I am wearing it right now! (With a T-shirt, because I’m about to go to the gym, but still.) If I ever need to go to that level of formality, at least I know I can.

SG, invoking a sauna- that’s so interpretively inspired!!! I’m not familiar with that oil- what is it in particular that invokes a sauna? Would you ever wear it in a sauna? And the sweater is the pièce de résistance!

        3 February 2026 at 10:36 pm

Ohhhh, Ancient Resins is a lovely incense/resin that, very oddly, isn’t in fragrantica’s database. But oooh, now that I’m looking at the Aftelier website, I see that it’s still in production, and it was created for Leonard Cohen. The full description is “a very generous amount of frankincense, paired beautifully with Balm of Gilead (poplar buds). Completing this sumptuous balsamic fragrance are three more resins that have been treasured since ancient times for their spiritual and healing properties: benzoin, elemi, and labdanum. This body oil is in a luxurious and non-greasy base of jojoba and fractionated coconut oil which is immediately nourishing and absorbs quickly.” All true. And it’s what I think of when I think about getting into a sauna after a long day on the slopes. (I grew up downhill skiing, but never got very good at it.)

LesLiesse, I do indeed mean L’artisan Parfumeur:) Google the traditional bottle and you’ll see what I am trying to describe-the older bottle has a small ebullient figure of a woman riding a tiger. She has red shoes and her feet are in the air and it’s just the most joyous bottle label ever:) It actually increases my enjoyment of the bottle. I bought mine during covid-got a great deal but the picture of the bottle showed the newer bottle-just the name. When my bottle arrived it was the older version and even now it just elevates my happiness.

I’m matching the Winter Olympics with Comme des Garçons Erl Sunscreen. I would describe it as a milky woody musk . For me it is not a coconut scent but a rice pudding scent with a cedar base. It has a bit of a sharp opening but mellows pretty quickly, and the floral elements ( heliotrope) come through. I think if you like Glossier you might like it, or even the old Costume Nationale 21….though sunscreen lacks the spice and depth of Costume Nationale. My interpretation differs from what I’ve seen on fragrantica. Those reviews highlight the coconut though I don’t get such a strong summer beach/ coconut lotion impression. Anyway, it’s casual and easy, and I keep smelling my wrist and the sun is shining today…so that’s a plus.

It’s quite warm in Los Angeles.
One very hot summer when we lived in Greece, we headed out to the Pelopponnese to visit Olympia.
The olive groves there are among the oldest in Greece and the country not touristed like it is now.
We camped in our VW van in the groves, all silver and gray and had most of Olympia to ourselves.

I went through another box from the basement. I found about 15 VHS tapes, which were mostly recordings of the sitcom Soap! and MTV specials. They all went into the garbage. I also found a large envelope filled with letters and card’s from the 80’s. I read them all, and then shredded everything. I had 4 magazines from 2000, which is where my sotd comes from. I rubbed my wrists on scent strips of Lolita Lempeka ( so much stronger than even my 10 yr old bottle) and Organza Indecense. That one really took me back. I smell fantastic. Every time I go through a box or bag, I am hoping to find lost money and today I did. I found a dollar bill from 1981 in an old checkbook cover. Lol. From the big box, I only saved 3 pictures, a tape of my HS graduation, and the dollar.

Yes, you smell fantastic! The original OI is one of my top 5. I admire your ability to discard; it’s an ability I lack. I blame it on my mom. She was what I call a ‘’thrower-outer.’ I have nothing left from my childhood and growing-up days, she got rid of everything,, so it’s hard for me to let go sometimes.

I’ve been doing this slowly for a few year’s now. It’s pretty emotional sometimes. I’ve carried some of these boxes around since I was a teenager.

Like Laila, I admire your ability to let go Lillyjo. Hope to draw some strength from it as I go through my aunts and uncles things.

LesLiesse, I still have my Mom’s things from 14 years ago to go through. Just go at your own pace.

I need to follow your example and deal with some of my packed boxes. But a trip to a furniture store might be needed first. Lacking storage for some things I would have otherwise already unpacked.

I’m doing it backwards. I will find storage once I finish weeding things out.

I don’t have enough storage for my music CDs. I am most definitely not getting rid of them!

Great progress on going through a box. Wasn’t Soap a good show? I used to really enjoy the scent strips in magazines and did the same as you. Things you discovered in there was like a time-machine.

I loved Soap. I had a crush on Danny. ( who later played the dad on Blossom) oh and Robert Urich (R.I.P) I figured I didn’t need the tapes since everything is available online now.

Ha, I used to have the entire series of Soap on VHS, friends made it for me when there was a Soap marathon. Unfortunately now useless!

Sampling YSL Muse today and no me gusto. Notes are below but I get fig, coconut and the dreaded amberwood. 😱 Not a fig fan and so a big no for me.

Top Notes: Incense, Lavender Ourika, Clary Sage
Heart Notes: Orris Concrete, Ambrette Absolute, Vanilla Bourbon Absolute
Base Notes: Ink Accord, Ambery Woods Accord

“Ambery Woods Accord” makes it sound so benign and harmless but we know better🧐

I’m trying to figure out how those notes can combine into fig. 🤷‍♀️

“Ink accord” makes me rather leery.

I’m in Guerlain AA Anisia Bella today. On the weekend I was in Chanel No. 19 edt (a vintage version but I’m not sure of the year); I also wore La Pausa at bed time. It’s been so grey and cool here so I’ve been craving green fragrances lately.

No. 19 in any form is a 4-season scent in my book.

You’re sticking with classics as of late.

You’re right! I’ve been neglecting a cupboard with my Chanel bottles so I thought it was time to use them. I might have to spend time reorganizing my bottles so everything gets some use.

Chanel No. 19 is perfection any time.

Woodstock Willie sent me a sign today that his prediction of an early Spring is correct: Although our small waterfall appears frozen under a layer of snow and ice, we keep a heater inside it in the winter to keep the pump going and the water flowing even though it’s not visible. Today there were 2 places where the frozen layer shrunk somewhat and we could actually see, for the first time in a long time, running water! I am grateful . . . Little by little by little.🙏

SOTD is LMDLV Vanille Noire du Mexique, which is meant to evoke rich, spiced Mexican hot chocolate, layered over BBW’s Hot Cocoa and Cream. Mmm, good!☕️

    Wishing all a wonderful evening!

Delighted to see so many embrace the cp, including appreciating Italy!

Robin, the birthdays today would make particularly fascinating dinner party. Alvar Aalto is a favorite designer of mine.

Sotd Encens Mythique from a generous NSTer to invoke Italy’s many churches including the Vatican.

Had a front blow through this afternoon, so it felt rather chilly today. Grey clouds teased precipitation, but neither rain nor snow fell in my area. But the mountains have been cloaked all day, which is a good thing to see. 🏔️🌬️

Got an idea for Friday, but am currently enjoying something else.

SOTD = more Hypnotic Poison EdT. Cold enough for Bum Bum Cream in the usual spots today.

I’m hoping that it won’t be a super hot and dry summer this year. I had a few wildfires close enough in 2024 that I could smell the smoke. Not interested in a repeat of that!
