It's (Teapot) Tuesday and National Carrot Cake Day. Birthdays: Charles Henry Turner, Gertrude Stein, Alvar Aalto, Mabel Mercer, Simone Weil, Nathan Lane. What fragrance are you wearing?
I have just about zero interest in sports and winter, but I am playing along with the community project by copying DeniseH's Monday pick: Fendi Theorema.
Reminder: 2/6 is the opening day of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Do absolutely whatever you like with the theme: scent a winter sport? Wear something Italian to celebrate the location? Wear something to support your country's team? Or, pick a fragrance to honor your utter lack of interest in sports, or winter, or both. (Suggested by LesLiesse.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Skier Teapot, Small ("The inspiration and imagery for Skiers China came from ‘Crowded Slopes’, an award-winning photograph taken by designer Dede Johnston in 2008 in Courchevel, France") is $278 at Gorsuch. (There is a larger pot for $318, and matching dinnerware including cups, saucers and mugs.)
mmm, carrot cake, I make a killer one if I do say so myself.
I’m in Glossier You.
This week is the first time in 3 weeks I’ve not worn long underwear to work. The beauty of wearing scrubs everyday is that it’s like wearing pajamas. The un-beauty is that they are paper thin and provide very little in the way of warmth.
I’ve noticed on both my morning and afternoon commutes that the days are getting longer.🌞
I LOVE carrot cake!!! If you do make one please kindly treat me a slice. 😍
I bought fleece lined leggings. I am right there with you!
Congratulations on shedding your long underwear. Enjoy the carrot cake.
Hurray for not needing long johns for a bit! Old Man Winter isn’t finished with his antics, though.
Hello.
Sotd is Lush Candy Rain. This doesn’t smell like a copy of the conditioner sadly. It’s more medicinal, earthy and patchouli heavy. It’s not bad but I want the conditioner smell!
I am by nobody’s standard even a touch sporty or active. I’ll admit I look forward to winter Olympics only for the figure skating.
House Twins! Sorry the scent was a disappointment.
Enjoy the figure skating h888t! There are many compelling skating stories this year.
Sunday’s SOTD was Epic and yesterday’s SOTD was vintage BaV. Today, I am wearing Estee Lauder Pleasures because, why not? I might be working a 5 day stretch at work and a little bored with Infusion d’iris and Cheirosa 62 on work perfume.
I will wear Infusions d’Iris for the CP this week.
Another big attack overnight – I heard the sounds in the distance. Once again, people are losing heating and power.
I’m wearing Lush The Olive Branch body spray for the CP, although I’ll layer it with something warmer later.
The connection is the olive branch used in the fire-lighting ceremony – the priestess gives it to the first torchbearer as a symbol of peace. In ancient times, wars stopped during the Olympics. 😭😭😭
The olive branch as a symbol of peace—and of wars once pausing for the Olympics-Holding space for peace, even when the world refuses to. 🕊️
Glannys, I’m so sorry. Your ability to continue keep on keeping on, all the while dazzling us with your perfume choices, connections, and commentary is nothing short of amazing. T-Rex and I are big admirers of your strength, courage, and fortitude. ❤️
Glannys you’re elegant and artculate and you smell good, even when times are tough.
You have a big heart, Glannys. And if the world was full of Glannyss, the olive branch would indeed bring peace immediately and the world would also smell amazing :-).
Nice connection to the Cp!
The beauty and irony of your CP choice is exquisite and painful! All around the world our fragrant community lifts you up Glannys! 🤗
Sotd Prada Infusion d’Oeillet for the CP.
Not interested in anything winter, especially with the brutal winter temperatures we have been experiencing for the past 3 weeks. I will just wear perfumes from Italian brands for the CP.
My rechargeable hand warmers stopped working yesterday after years of having them. I just ordered a new pair since they have been extremely helpful when working outdoors and commuting.
On my second cup of coffee and a couple of matcha madeleine cookies.
Happy Tuesday! 🌻
Rechargeable hand warmers are a terrific invention! I was so glad to stop using the chemical ones between my glove liners and gloves.
Agree, and less waste affecting the environment.
I am biased, but I think you are wearing one of the best of the Prada Infusions today.
I think Infusion d’Oeillet and Infusion d’Amande are the best on the Infusion line. While I like Infusion d’Iris Absolue, it is not a love for me.
I’ll be in the recording studio all day, so I’ve got to keep my scent profile discreet. I’m wearing Iskander from Parfum D’Empire, one of my favorite citrus-forward perfumes.
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Enjoy your recording!
Daniel, you are most situationally aware, always kindly thinking of co-workers or others sharing a close space with you. I’m not familiar with your scent but I’m sure it is discreet and almost like a secret. Someone has to get very close to be let in on the secret aka enjoy your scent.
Happy Tuesday, Daniel!
Dancing on snow in Cristalle. I will one day invest in a bottle of this.
Enjoying my decant for now.
Tea is Earl Gray
We are huge Winter Olympics fans over here ❄️⛷️
Also… a house very much divided. Some people will be cheering for Canada, and emotions will be HIGH—there will be tears whether Canada wins or loses
I am Team USA.
Milan is on my bucket list, so these games feel extra exciting. Clearly this is my sign to get back to my Italian lessons—andiamo! 🇮🇹🎿
Tea twins, I had mine with cream. You are smelling wonderful.
which is your favorite brand for the tea?
Cristalle is beautiful. I am looking on evil bay for a FB but I am afraid of fakes
I am a not picky, teabag person, and I like Tazo.
I would recommend buying directly from Chanel if you are worried about fakes. I understand wanting to save money, but why take the risk?
True!
discounters have bottles too..like fragrance dot net etc
I did get my bottle of No. 19 Poudre from a discounter in a mall. But I didn’t really save much.
Dancing in the snow in Cristalle! I love it! Enjoy the games! I will be rooting for Canada men’s hockey in honor of Shane Hollander from H/R and all Ukrainian athletes!
You smell so good-what a perfect choice to wear in chilly weather 🙂 Or any weather.
When I was young and the Olympics only came around once every four years and it was a big thing for my family. Not that any of us were sporty, mind you! But it was definitely family time in front of the TV admiring the athletes at peak performance. Good times! I’ll forever remember when the US Hockey team beat out Russia in the 80’s. My mother was a HUGE hockey, and specifically, Blackhawks fan. Her first date with my future father was a Blackhawks game in Chicago. She never let him forget he got seats in the nosebleed section. 😬 Anyway, that win had her (and many across the nation) ecstatic on so many levels.
Beautiful drive down from the mountains Sunday watching the toothy mountains turn from green to blue to grey in the distance like a watercolor scene. There must have been some good rains in last few weeks here because I’ve never seen the desert so green as it is right now. A few wildflowers blooming here and there add a touch of color and joy to the landscape. Full on sunshine with a temp that reached about 80F yesterday. *Almost* too warm for me but I’m getting some good vitamin D.
Predictably, I’m wearing L’Essence. I feel a THUNK! coming in the next week or so.
Stay safe, T-Rex and I are sending sun and warmth to those in need🌞
We have watched Miracle on Ice!
Deva, Netflix just put out a new documentary on the 1989 U.S. men’s hockey team. They do a good job of showcasing the surviving players now juxtaposed with their 1980 selves. They even interviewed Herb Brooks’s adult children. A THUNK in your future? That’s thrilling!
I heard conditions might be right for a Superbloom in Death Valley this Spring. You’re providing eyewitness confirmation of that.
80!! Have you got a guest room set up yet 😉
Not as viciously cold as it has been for the last week, but I’m still not going out in it. I’m warm and toasty in Bulgari Black.
Every now and then I just get it in my head to do something and this morning I thought with no precedent and no reason that I really needed to make myself a bowtie. I haven’t worn a tie in at least ten years and haven’t worn a (clip-on) bowtie since I was about six (there is photographic proof), but I had to anyway. When you have a sewing machine, nearly anything is possible, so I pulled out some red thread and fabric plus interfacing, made the tie, and then had to teach myself to tie it (which took a solid fifteen minutes). And I am wearing it right now! (With a T-shirt, because I’m about to go to the gym, but still.) If I ever need to go to that level of formality, at least I know I can.
A sewing machine is a wonderful thing!
Bulgari Black, yum…
Wow, that’s impressive action – you decided then you went for it! Very inspirational P !
I had to smile at your recollections of clip-on bowties. My brother had some when he was about 6 years old, too. He was so cute in them.
Wow, that is amazing. I really wish I knew how to sew.
I’m in Aftelier Ancient Resins body oil, to evoke a sauna. And I’m wearing a shirt that a Swedish woman once told me looks like a Swedish ski sweater.
SG, invoking a sauna- that’s so interpretively inspired!!! I’m not familiar with that oil- what is it in particular that invokes a sauna? Would you ever wear it in a sauna? And the sweater is the pièce de résistance!
Ohhhh, Ancient Resins is a lovely incense/resin that, very oddly, isn’t in fragrantica’s database. But oooh, now that I’m looking at the Aftelier website, I see that it’s still in production, and it was created for Leonard Cohen. The full description is “a very generous amount of frankincense, paired beautifully with Balm of Gilead (poplar buds). Completing this sumptuous balsamic fragrance are three more resins that have been treasured since ancient times for their spiritual and healing properties: benzoin, elemi, and labdanum. This body oil is in a luxurious and non-greasy base of jojoba and fractionated coconut oil which is immediately nourishing and absorbs quickly.” All true. And it’s what I think of when I think about getting into a sauna after a long day on the slopes. (I grew up downhill skiing, but never got very good at it.)
I just got some frankincense oil last month. I got a link from a H/R article on the products the makeup artist used. It’s from LivingLibations.com. I’ve been layering it with my divine Encens Mythique from a generous NSTer!
You smell GOOD today!
Thank you – I think so too! 🙂
I was thinking I might do CdG Hinoki this week for the same reason! Excellent.
Great idea!
I grabbed Armani Ambre Soie this morning and will join others in wearing Italian fragrances this week.
Vive L’Italie !!! 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
So much warmer than it has been. We got a huge dump of snow yesterday-and my neighbour did my driveway while I was at work.
SOTD is Dzing!, which I love. The bottle, with the woman riding a tiger and kicking her little red shoes in the air, might be my favourite of all time.
I got an email (no affilation) that Sisley is doing a lipstick freebie when you buy lipsticks. Thought of you!
oh, I saw that-not sure it’s available in my country, but it looks like a fabulous deal. I love their matte line of lipsticks-the colours are amazing to me. Thank you for telling me about the offer:)
Carole, I was about to be enabled when you described the bottle. Such a buy impulse from me: Must.Ride.Tiger.Kicking.Off.Red.Shoes! But alas the bottle looks normal. Did you mean L’Artisan Parfumeur?
LesLiesse, I do indeed mean L’artisan Parfumeur:) Google the traditional bottle and you’ll see what I am trying to describe-the older bottle has a small ebullient figure of a woman riding a tiger. She has red shoes and her feet are in the air and it’s just the most joyous bottle label ever:) It actually increases my enjoyment of the bottle. I bought mine during covid-got a great deal but the picture of the bottle showed the newer bottle-just the name. When my bottle arrived it was the older version and even now it just elevates my happiness.
What a thoughtful gesture from your neighbor!
Santa Maria Novella for me today, from a vintage decant of Muschio sent by a perfume friend up north. I have not smelled the current version but the vintage certainly has a yummy animalic musky growl.
A musky growl! Wow!
Another Tuesday, another adorable teapot 🫖
Wearing Malin&Goetz Dark Rum with a drop of Dame New Man Musk, they smell really good together. That Dame musk is perfect for layering.
It’s a good cold day to have a cat on your lap.
Sounds like such a good combination.
A cat on your lap? I’m not even a cat person and that sounds dreamy.
Teflon kitty agrees with your weather assessment. 🐈
That teapot is adorable and if I drank tea, I might be tempted to order it. But I am a coffee person, and will admire it from the picture. This morning’s scent is Angels’ Share.
Foxbins I almost purchased it, but showed restraint. The Goraich site has matching mugs if you want it for your coffee.
I’m going with Italian brands and I’m wearing Armani Privé Bois d’Encens.
Ottima idea!
I’m matching the Winter Olympics with Comme des Garçons Erl Sunscreen. I would describe it as a milky woody musk . For me it is not a coconut scent but a rice pudding scent with a cedar base. It has a bit of a sharp opening but mellows pretty quickly, and the floral elements ( heliotrope) come through. I think if you like Glossier you might like it, or even the old Costume Nationale 21….though sunscreen lacks the spice and depth of Costume Nationale. My interpretation differs from what I’ve seen on fragrantica. Those reviews highlight the coconut though I don’t get such a strong summer beach/ coconut lotion impression. Anyway, it’s casual and easy, and I keep smelling my wrist and the sun is shining today…so that’s a plus.
Is there a sport you’ll be watching or a Kiwi athlete you’ll root for, Kanuka ?
Interesting, I did like 21 quite a lot.
In Bulgari’s blue tea, seemed the right day of the week to wear it…
Plus Bulgari is Italian!
That’s such a lovely warm weather perfume.
I am just kind of doing my own thing and wearing Eau Duelle today.
It’s quite warm in Los Angeles.
One very hot summer when we lived in Greece, we headed out to the Pelopponnese to visit Olympia.
The olive groves there are among the oldest in Greece and the country not touristed like it is now.
We camped in our VW van in the groves, all silver and gray and had most of Olympia to ourselves.
It sounds enchanted -what a beautiful memory!
This is a beautiful memory. I’ve never seen an olive tree. What a treat to have a place like that to yourselves:)
I have a couple items made of olive wood. Such a gorgeous grain to them.
I went through another box from the basement. I found about 15 VHS tapes, which were mostly recordings of the sitcom Soap! and MTV specials. They all went into the garbage. I also found a large envelope filled with letters and card’s from the 80’s. I read them all, and then shredded everything. I had 4 magazines from 2000, which is where my sotd comes from. I rubbed my wrists on scent strips of Lolita Lempeka ( so much stronger than even my 10 yr old bottle) and Organza Indecense. That one really took me back. I smell fantastic. Every time I go through a box or bag, I am hoping to find lost money and today I did. I found a dollar bill from 1981 in an old checkbook cover. Lol. From the big box, I only saved 3 pictures, a tape of my HS graduation, and the dollar.
Yes, you smell fantastic! The original OI is one of my top 5. I admire your ability to discard; it’s an ability I lack. I blame it on my mom. She was what I call a ‘’thrower-outer.’ I have nothing left from my childhood and growing-up days, she got rid of everything,, so it’s hard for me to let go sometimes.
I’ve been doing this slowly for a few year’s now. It’s pretty emotional sometimes. I’ve carried some of these boxes around since I was a teenager.
Like Laila, I admire your ability to let go Lillyjo. Hope to draw some strength from it as I go through my aunts and uncles things.
LesLiesse, I still have my Mom’s things from 14 years ago to go through. Just go at your own pace.
I need to follow your example and deal with some of my packed boxes. But a trip to a furniture store might be needed first. Lacking storage for some things I would have otherwise already unpacked.
I’m doing it backwards. I will find storage once I finish weeding things out.
I don’t have enough storage for my music CDs. I am most definitely not getting rid of them!
Great progress on going through a box. Wasn’t Soap a good show? I used to really enjoy the scent strips in magazines and did the same as you. Things you discovered in there was like a time-machine.
I loved Soap. I had a crush on Danny. ( who later played the dad on Blossom) oh and Robert Urich (R.I.P) I figured I didn’t need the tapes since everything is available online now.
Robert Urich was yummy. 😋
Ha, I used to have the entire series of Soap on VHS, friends made it for me when there was a Soap marathon. Unfortunately now useless!
Sampling YSL Muse today and no me gusto. Notes are below but I get fig, coconut and the dreaded amberwood. 😱 Not a fig fan and so a big no for me.
Top Notes: Incense, Lavender Ourika, Clary Sage
Heart Notes: Orris Concrete, Ambrette Absolute, Vanilla Bourbon Absolute
Base Notes: Ink Accord, Ambery Woods Accord
“Ambery Woods Accord” makes it sound so benign and harmless but we know better🧐
I’m trying to figure out how those notes can combine into fig. 🤷♀️
“Ink accord” makes me rather leery.
I’m in Guerlain AA Anisia Bella today. On the weekend I was in Chanel No. 19 edt (a vintage version but I’m not sure of the year); I also wore La Pausa at bed time. It’s been so grey and cool here so I’ve been craving green fragrances lately.
No. 19 in any form is a 4-season scent in my book.
You’re sticking with classics as of late.
You’re right! I’ve been neglecting a cupboard with my Chanel bottles so I thought it was time to use them. I might have to spend time reorganizing my bottles so everything gets some use.
Chanel No. 19 is perfection any time.
Woodstock Willie sent me a sign today that his prediction of an early Spring is correct: Although our small waterfall appears frozen under a layer of snow and ice, we keep a heater inside it in the winter to keep the pump going and the water flowing even though it’s not visible. Today there were 2 places where the frozen layer shrunk somewhat and we could actually see, for the first time in a long time, running water! I am grateful . . . Little by little by little.🙏
SOTD is LMDLV Vanille Noire du Mexique, which is meant to evoke rich, spiced Mexican hot chocolate, layered over BBW’s Hot Cocoa and Cream. Mmm, good!☕️
Wishing all a wonderful evening!
Now I want spicy hot chocolate!
Your mention of spiced hot chocolate brought Pacifica’s Mexican Cocoa to mind. RIP
I love Mexican Hot Chocolate
The drink..lol
Delighted to see so many embrace the cp, including appreciating Italy!
Robin, the birthdays today would make particularly fascinating dinner party. Alvar Aalto is a favorite designer of mine.
Sotd Encens Mythique from a generous NSTer to invoke Italy’s many churches including the Vatican.
I do love the smell of incense in a church-you smell beautiful and pure:)
Oh gosh, such a fulsome compliment Carole! Thank you!
I would love to have a Paimio chair! Not happening in this lifetime 🙂
You have gorgeous taste! If I ever hit it big on the Lottery Robin, I will buy you one! Scout’s Honor!
Had a front blow through this afternoon, so it felt rather chilly today. Grey clouds teased precipitation, but neither rain nor snow fell in my area. But the mountains have been cloaked all day, which is a good thing to see. 🏔️🌬️
Got an idea for Friday, but am currently enjoying something else.
SOTD = more Hypnotic Poison EdT. Cold enough for Bum Bum Cream in the usual spots today.
The 14 day outlook shows that almost the whole Country Is to expect above average temps starting next week.
I’m hoping that it won’t be a super hot and dry summer this year. I had a few wildfires close enough in 2024 that I could smell the smoke. Not interested in a repeat of that!
