It's Tuesday and National Iced Tea Day. Birthdays: Gustave Courbet, Hattie McDaniel, Howlin’ Wolf, Saul Bellow, Prince Philip, Judy Garland, Maurice Sendak, E. O. Wilson. RIP Sly Stone. What fragrance are you wearing?
My fragrance needs to be light today, so I'm wearing a drop of Aftelier Ancient Resins mixed into unscented body lotion.
Reminder: on 6/13, wear an incense fragrance, if you have one. (This is a repeat; suggested by ringthing.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Tea Incense Burner in Cream ("A handcrafted ceramic diffuser that gently warms tea leaves, filling your space with their natural fragrance") is $60 at Shikohin. (And see: How to Use a Chakoro Tea Incense Burner at Musubi Kiln.)
Hello.
Sotd is eLVes. A different take on coconut that works more than just for summer imo.
I have an important news / PSA for Maison Francis Kurkdjian lovers!
The re-released 4 perfumes, called the “My VIP” line-up apparently is not a permanent offering (I thought it was)! My SA told me only 2000 bottles of each perfume were made and small batches were sent to each flagship store internationally. Me for instance, there were only 2 Le Beau Parfums left in my store when I went to purchase.
Get ’em while you can 🙂
After the talk about Obsession last week, I am wearing a couple of spritzes of vintage for incense week. I’m having a rest day today and Obsession is just right.
The perfume, no less! And for Judy Garland’s birthday, TCM has her movies on all day today. Looking forward to watching The Clock, a whirlwind WWII romance.
I love the Clock! I’m a big JG fan. I’ve never seen summer stock-I should rectify that. Enjoy your day, and you smell great 🙂
Another fan of The Clock here, so much talent by both Judy and the tragic Robert Walkers and Vincente Minelli’s direction. I always associate this film with the British masterpiece Brief Encounter for their understated drama.
Oh Brief Encounter is another movie I love, it’s so bittersweet.
I am wearing Penhaligon’s Opus 1870 for partial credit. This is a peppery woody citrus scent, but I am getting some incense from it as well.
And I hope NSTers in LA are doing OK. The news is crazy.
Glannys, things in Los Angeles are very different on the ground. I lived here during the 1992 riots and it was way scary.
You take care.
Glannys, I’m in Los Angeles too and 99.9% of the city is fine. The media of course only covers the violent protests and the looting downtown which I of course condemn. Can’t blame the media, I’m a former reporter myself, and that’s where the action is and showing footage of boring calm suburbs isn’t news. But rest assured, the city has NOT been taken over by armed migrant gangs etc. The majority of the protests are peaceful and law-abiding. But it plays into certain hands to paint us as running amok and living in a dangerous out of control city. That is not the case. I love my hometown and its diversity of people who mostly get along just fine. Slava Los Angeles.
Yeah, that’s what I thought. There was a similar media coverage (especially in a certain neighboring country) during 2014 protests in Kyiv. That’s what made me concerned. Definitely not the migrants.
Glad you are OK; I didn’t know that’s where you are. I agree with everything you said. Amen!
When I said the news is crazy, I was mostly referring to the deployment of the national guard and marines. I didn’t think the city was overtaken by migrant gangs or anything like that — no worries. I can’t say much more due to the comment policy, but rest assured I try to stay balanced in what I follow.
Thanks again for the reassurance.
I love incense notes and my collection shows it — could do two weeks without a repeat. But today is the last day of our current heat wave, so the hand chose Paris-Deauville this morning. No regrets!
That is a great one for the heat!
SOTD: Demeter Dandelion, a go-to when I’m wanting to smell green. I’m currently obsessing over ylang-ylang, but perhaps the Demeter will distract me.
I hope everyone has a good day!
Diptyque’s Eau Moheli is a nice ylang ylang perfume if you’ve never tried it. The ylang ylang is upfront, with a backup chorus of flowers and ginger.
Seconding Eau Moheli — it’s lovely.
I find myself adding drops of ylang oil to other things…it is such a relaxing floral.
I’ve noticed a ylang ylang note in Samsara, especially older formulations.
Great choice!
sorry, this was supposed to be for SheriG!
Thank you! It’s one where I actually wish I’d bought a BIGGER bottle. Rare occurrence! 🤣
Good afternoon-
I am in a sample of Le Jardin de Monsieur Li for a wet day. Interesting scent, any thoughts?
I am just back from the Belmont Stakes up in Saratoga. Had a grand time. Other than betting and loosing a lot of money, I enjoyed the Roosevelt baths and massage, shopping and eating downtown and my first trip away from my family since before the pandemic. I don’t think I will drink Bourbon for the rest of the year. (but don’t quote me on that)
That sounds like a great day out. If you feel like expanding on the baths and massages I’d love to hear about it.
I like the M Li scent, but sometimes wish it was a bit more robust. I like the bath gel a lot.
The Roosevelt Bath was amazing-they were built in the Great Depression by Roosevelt himself…. and have the old cast iron tubs. You soak for about 20 min and then have a massage-all in the same room. I have had a lot of massages in my day, and I had a great experience there..here is a little more https://www.timesunion.com/saratogagreen/article/Roosevelt-Baths-Spa-in-Saratoga-Springs-marks-6390446.php
I have this small Hermes sample and it is not robust at all but has lasted on my blouse most of the day-has faded from my skin hours ago…
It all sounds like a very relaxing self-time, you say you’re just back, was it a four-day weekend trip? Since you have picked up riding again it’s almost a requirement for you to go to the races😉
I was wondering if you went to the Belmont. I watched it and probably would have lost some money as well.
I had the time of my life! My girlfriend with her southern charm made friends with the bar tender and we got to go to the winners circle for one race! That was mind blowing! I met lots of horse owners at our hotel. A fun group of ladies, must of been in there 70’s that had us all sining here comes the sun as it was pouring out and the sun did come out! They were off their rocker ..
*singing (and maybe sin’ing too lol)
Sounds like so much fun!
Le Jardin de Monsieur Li has always struck me as a better scent for a showergel or soap than for a perfume. Personal preference there. 😉
It’s another cold dark day here. I have loads of wild rose bushes around the edge of the lawn and they’re so full of blooms this year, and the scent is fantastic. I’m in Rose Tonnerre parfum, in those stylish 30 ml black bakelight bottles. I like that format a lot, including the magnetic cap. The only drawback is there’s no way to see how much fragrance is left in the bottle. The parfum is beautiful, but if you’re a fan of the truffle and honey notes they’re so subtle in this format. So it’s richer, deeper, and less animalic/dirty.
I have one of those 30 ml bottles too in Iris Poudre and it drives me nuts that I can’t see how much is in the bottle. However, I have to admit that it has lasted a pretty long time so for that I am thankful. Luckily, I have a BUB in the 50 ml size and that one I can see how much is left.
Sigh, I yearned to find a 30 ml bottle of Eau de Magnolia, but FM is …selective about which ones are in that size. That said, I went through my bub collection and it turns out that I have *two* tavel sizes of it, so almost 30 ml in the house anyway.
I like that presentation too, I have Rose et Cuir in it, I understand what you mean and wish there was a glass side insertion to judge level better.
Your rose bushes sound beautiful, I like the concept of ‘wild.’ I have some like that, and they’re blooming’ away!
My SOTD is Dior Dune. Bosi de Jasmine mentions it having incense, but I don’t see anything about that in the notes section of Fragrantica. Oh, well. It smells good with my sandalwood body butter.
You smell wonderful.
Thanks.
You smell beautiful, incense or not!
And thank you too!
I bet that’s a fabulous layering combo!
It does smell nice.
Oooooooooooooh, I bet a sandalwood lotion pairs beautifully with Dune.
I don’t remember smelling incense in Dune either.
The Bois de Jasmin review reads “smoky accents of incense”. You got me!
sotd = Apres l’Ondee
good day, dear fragrant friends! I’m thinking of you on this gray-skies Tuesday.
I took a walk this morning and sniffed a gorgeous magnolia blossom, it brought tears to my eyes. Then neighbors gifted me a gardenia and sweet pea seeds from their garden.
My heart is full. ❤️ Hope you all find many moments of scented bliss!
You had a perfectly scented day🌸
🥰
🥰
Scented bliss! Nature’s beauty and beautiful neighbors!
Nice neighbors are a treasure 😍
tiffanie!👋
hi, lillyjo! 😁
Hiya tiffanie! Want some sun? 🌞🌞🌞
😂 yes please, I’m done with June gloom!
What lovely neighbors!
I feel lucky to have crossed paths with those neighbors today. 😁 They even had a milk bone for my doggie. ❤️
Rain with a forecast of heavy rain today so I’m wearing Amouage Journey for its undercurrent of warmth.
You smell lovely, it registers as warming for me too with its beautiful honey.
My mother is still in the ER and they are trying to find a room for her. I am currently at home and wearing L’heure de Nuit today. Most of the time, L’heure Bleue is a little much for me and I do love L’heure Bleue. Still a little salty that L’heure de Nuit was discontinued but grateful that I did get a bottle with the help of NST.
Dawn, I’m so sorry.
So sorry your mother is stuck in ER, IIRC you hoped she would be moving earlier, hope this delay will end soon.
I’m sorry about your Mom, Dawn, and I hope she gets a room by the time you read this. What a great daughter you are.
Sorry about your mother and 🤗 🤗 to you both.
I’m sorry Dawn.
Very sorry to hear this news about your Mom, Dawn.
Oh, no! Hope this gets resolved soon.
Hope your mom is in a comfortable room now. Very stressful!
In the pretty and quiet PN Muguet ’25, as I call it.
A delicate and quiet beauty!
Such many incense fragrances, so little time.
One spray of CdG Black.
Off to gym, keeping my promise to myself.
Yay you!
SOTD is a dab of Hiram Green’s Shangri La. I wanted that pretty peach skin note today, but Tuesday is office day, so I had to use restraint.
Tea today is Twining’s Gingerbread. My office kitchen is still out of Earl Grey teabags. I’m going to leave of box of the Gingerbread bags in a drawer of “my” desk and trust that the flavor is niche enough not to get pilfered by the people who use “my” office the other four days of the week. Office hoteling is still a new world for me.
You smell great!
Gah. I wouldn’t keep any teas at that office that I didn’t want pilfered.
Ehh, it’s Twinings, so no great loss if they do disappear I guess. 😂
Good luck, hope nobody touches your tea!
I’m wearing incense in the form of Neela Vermeire’s Trayee, one of my favourite perfumes.
Might be my favourite of the NV’s, you smell beautiful!
Trayée is gorgeous.
I didn’t note its was incense week, I’ll throw some Kyoto on. Covered in Sakura and a very fresh bottle of Vanillary to counteract the Sakura. Not a fan in its own, but can stomach it layered with others for longevity.
Thanks for the great comments regarding my manager and the perfumes! They didn’t have a whole lot of time, but, I gave everyone’s specific feedback.
I know more, but will blather another day. Going in on my off day to get the Hiccup Spray and take that whiff of the shower gel.
Happy day to all!
*Is pl67 doing ok?
PL67 posted a while back that she was getting better and starting to go back to work after a truly scary accident.
I take it you don’t care for Sakura?
Thank you for letting me know pl67 is getting better.💗
And no. Sakura does not smell beautiful on me.
Robin needs the new shower gel. Earthy!
I’m wearing Masque Milano Whale Something, which feels a bit muddled like a lot of their fragrances. I will work my way through both of their sample sets, but so far I haven’t found anything I really want to have, except maybe Romanza.
I felt the same about that line. Surprisingly meh.
I like Lost Alice and L’Attesa from them. But yes, several misses.
I’m wearing probably the penultimate spray left in a decant of the original L’Artisan Aedes de Venustas, the incense one, not the rhubarb one, LOL.
I got a decant in a swap, but most of it leaked. I probably have one spray left after today, darn it, cuz it’s quite gorgeous and quite d/c and out of my price range among the resellers online.
I have never tried the original but loved the rhubarb version.
House twins today!
That was a good one.
I’m limited to a few samples on vacation so today was FM Eau de Magnolia. I love incense so I wish I could participate more fully.
Hope you’re having a great time and I bet you smell lovely, I think I have a sample too somewhere.
Hey, I’m impressed that you are able to post while on vakay!
Hope you are having a great vacation!
Eau de Magnolia is wonderful stuff!
Smoothie will be two yellow nectarines instead because they are at a perfect stage of ripeness now, from Spain like the white ones.
Scent this morning was Eau Claire des Merveilles, I don’t have Eau des Merveilles to layer like you do Robin but I am happy enough with this and Elixir and Ambre, you can’t have everything I keep telling myself. Tonight it’s Franck Boclet Vanille another favored vanilla which I forgot when I only listed Lavanila Pure Vanilla, Outremer Vanille and AdP Vaniglia. FB is different, a citrus vanilla.
Almost twins, joining you in the original EdM today. I also have the Elixir, Ambre, and Claire (but I don’t layer this one as Robin does.)
Waving 👋 to you almost twin, I’m impressed with your four Merveilles!
Oops, I almost forgot, I have the Bleue version also. It’s the only fragrance that motivated me to buy it’s flankers, and I haven’t been disappointed.
Ah, I recall several people like it here, Hajusuuri amongst others if I’m not mistaken, it’s not for me because it is marine/ambroxan forward, I’m just like Lillyjo😉
Not quite peach season here yet. But the local strawberries are just starting to come in!
Here too it is too soon for local summer fruit hence they are imported, we are in synch for strawberries too, the tradition in London is that the season begins when Wimbledon, so a bit later in June.
You are so right that you can’t have everything…and I have NONE of your vanillas!
A somewhat hard lesson to learn but it’s sinking in😀
It’s World Pet Memorial Day, and I wanted to send ❤️☮️ and🤗to all of you who, like me, have lost beloved furbabies who have crossed over the 🌈 bridge. To paraphrase a quote I saw recently, ‘You loved them in their presence, and you can continue to love them in their absence’ and keep them by your side.
Today I’m honoring Charley, Caesar, Cleopatra, Kala, Romeo and Ambrose 😻and Alfred, Puppy, and Gordon 🐶, and loving them still after many years. 💕
SOTD Hermes Eau Des Merveilles.
It’s a great quote, I still miss Schnooky the🐱 and haven’t replaced her.
You’ll never replace her but, in time, you may feel the need to bring that love to another furbaby who is looking for you, or maybe not. We each need to do what we feel is right for us. 🤗
Love your scent. I just have that one. Do you find it worth having the others? I would like to know the differences to decide if I want the other three. I smelled all of them years ago so don’t really remember.
Yes, I haven’t been disappointed in any of them; it’s the only fragrance that I was motivated to purchase its flankers. I love the original Eau Des Merveilles and the Elixir, I like the Ambre and Bleue versions very much, and I like the Eau Claire when I want a lighter, airier version in warm weather. I just happened to find this today and I think it offers a good comparison of their differences.
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/The-January-Magic-of-Hermes-Eau-des-Merveilles-21895.html
Oh, thank you. I saved the article. I may have to try some of these again since it has been so long.
Thinking about Spooky, Pixel, Tiger, Jinx kitty, and “D” kitty. Plus the 2 cats my family had when I was a kid, Patches and Willy. And lots of parakeets (aka budgies).
Glad I still have Teflon to keep me company.
Aw, how sweet!😿. Growing up, we lived on the 2nd floor of a 2-flat and my parents wouldn’t allow me to have a dog or cat lest it offend the landlord. But we had a steady progression of parakeets (aka budgies) and it’s easy to remember them – all the blue ones were named Pretty Boy and all the green ones, Tuffy.
ZOMG!! We had some parakeets named Pretty Boy too!
But then my brother and I were allowed to name them and things got a little strange. The last one we had was named Jaws.
Joining in by honoring Sugar, Punkin, Sin and especially Caz … and Cayenne and Pepper who I don’t really remember but about whom I have heard stories.
It’s warm and sunny here. I am wearing Acqua Viva.
Are you still on vacation?
going home today 🙁
Posting late today! Was busy doing all sorts of tasks this afternoon. It was a hot one; got up to around 90! Perfect timing for National Iced Tea Day.
News! My brother is starting a new/old job on Thursday night. He’s going back to the oilfields. So he is currently shifting to a nighttime schedule.
Other news. A potential grocery workers strike is coming to parts of Colorado for one chain. We shall see how that shakes out.
SOTD = back in Timbuktu again today.
Good news for your brother!
Is he working a 3rd shift?
His job has only 2 shifts, day and night. So he will be working 12 hours, not including the commute.
Oh no! Will he still be able to perform miracles on your vehicle?
Exactly what I was wondering!
Sure. He’s not going to be working 24/7/365. His schedule will be 7 nights on and 7 nights off.
When he used to work that job, he would shift to a swing shift schedule on his time off.
Hope the transition will be smooth for your brother, I’ve done plenty of working late but never nights.
He used to work nights, so it’s something he’s experienced before. It’s just going to be a very short time frame from him to adapt.
Tomorrow night’s the big night!
How nice you enjoy your family.
Scary grocery news!
Eh, grocery strikes are NBD. Had one at a different chain earlier this year. Now a grocery chain MERGER would be scary indeed!
My brother and I talk almost every night. We’re lucky that we get along and like each other.
Later than Jalapeno!
It’s been a hectic day. I am wearing Allure edp. Yesterday I wore Coco Noir. I was going to do a Chanel week but who knows what will call my name tomorrow.
Gotta go with the perfume that moves you!
Smelling wonderful over there.
Oh you smelled good in Allure Lillyjo, I’ve never replaced my little 35ml bottle.
