Thursday scent of the day 8/29

Posted by Robin on 29 August 2024 113 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! Birthdays: John Locke, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Ingrid Bergman, Charlie Parker, Dinah Washington. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.

Reminder: on 8/30, for the start of Labor Day Weekend in the US, wear the fragrance you think you probably wore the most — or wish you'd worn the most — for summer 2024 (or if you're in the southern hemisphere, for winter 2024).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Miss Dior Originale.
I was just reorganizing my perfume cupboard and I found my bottle of Jersey extrait which I had totally forgotten about. I now have the edt, edp and extrait put together in one spot so I won’t lose them again. I also found my bottle of Shalimar Parfum Initial. It got me quite a few compliments when I used to wear it back when it was still in production. Now it’s too precious to use. Just looking at it brings me joy though so I guess that’s okay.

I did that yesterday afternoon! What fun to find an unopened Tea for Two and unopened Shalimar that I have no recall of purchasing! Plus a perfect mini bottle of Ambre Sultan.

SOTD will be 31 Rue Cambon. Then I will decide to keep or sell.

Hi Kris – it’s going to be in purgatory for a bit. I ended up wearing one spray of Une Rose and am swooning.

Hi NST! My sotd is Seville l’Aube, a summer staple.
It’s so humid here that you can feel tiny water droplets in the haze. I am ready to say goodbye to August.

Haven’t thought about that one in a while. Years ago, I bought a bottle for my sister-in-law, mostly for the backstory, which I included in the gift box. A really pretty scent.

I’m wearing the last of a decant of L’Ombre Dans L’Eau, for all of the florals that I skipped this summer. For some reason, most florals, especially roses, never appear on my list of summer scents.

My most worn ELDO. Always cheers me up. So, confession. I thought it had lots of lavender in it for a looong time. Finally looked up the notes. No idea why my nose registers savory floral, but it does.

I’m wearing D’Orsay Étiquette Bleue again today. It’s so wonderful in the heat!
I have not been posting lately because of preparation for guests coming to stay for a few days, and then busy with them.
It was wonderful- one of my nieces, her husband and almost 5-year-old boy. We had so much fun, more than I had anticipated. The highlights were a ride in a Duck Boat and a visit to the Science Museum. All a boy could want, right? 😊
Wishing everyone a temperate day! ☀️😎

I love a lot of the D’Orsays but have never managed to decide on buying one. I remember stumbling across them at Bergdorf’s–maybe 2017ish? The clerk didn’t know much about them. Several were terrific.

Fun! I’ve only tried this one and the Tilleul, which was very pretty. I first found mine at a posh clothing store in the mid-2000’s. They never seemed to gain much traction in the perfume blogosphere, for what reason, I’m not sure.

In Clementine California – both summery and American. Very fitting for these last hot days of summer.

We had a loud scary night listening to air defense shooting drones. The good news is there is no new damage to the power grid. Minor fires.

Obvious Un Ete today for me. I used up a 5 ml decant this summer, enjoying ginger/citrus/matcha. It dries down to a creamy sunscreen scent that I enjoy. Will I buy a bottle? It’s currently a “maybe.”

Heading over later to my son’s apt to help out with the 4 month old granddaughter for the day while he is out of town. (I don’t have much Un Ete on, should be okay.)

I’m wearing Kyoto today. I have fallen down the gel nail polish rabbit hole and have spent way too much time looking at gorgeous polish colors and finishes. Polish has come a long way since my Revlon and Sally Hansen days.

So many rabbit holes out there! Are you doing both finger and toe nails? I was in a grocery a few weeks ago and walked down the “beauty aisle” and wanted to get a polish for my toes (my finger nails are beyond all help) and was shocked at the prices. I do like the idea of gel polish as it lasts so much longer, though.

I’m just doing fingers with gel polishes. On toes, I put on a semi-cured gel “wrap” (like a sticker made of polish) and they still look good after 5 weeks.

Doing all day dauber tests on the five sample I just got from LuckyScent. after 1.5 hours…
    1. Papillion Epona – Luca Turin just reviewed this and calls it the successor to the great Guerlains of the 20’s and 30’s. Vintage Guerlain girl that I am, I agree. Big classic floral melange with an under-lay of well manicured dressage horse who gets a daily bath. Most civilized horse, but it is there! I love this.
    2. Les Indemodables Iris Perle -fresh pretty pretty pretty Iris! I had no idea I would love this but I do!
    3. Hedonist Iris- much less assertive start than Iris Perle, but we will see how it wears over time. I know this gets a lot of love.
    4. Philtre from Hiram Green- carnation!! My nose is happy some more. We will see how long it lasts, as well, but HG scents work on my skin.
    5. Iris Mali khan -nicer on skin, but still getting whiffs of tobacco- like, bug spray like yuck, and a little tingly lip thing. Starting to wish I hadn’t put this on with the others. Might have to scrub the whole batch. Ugh.

Philtre was still “floral” but not exactly carnationy at 5 hours. Now it’s gone. Hedonist Iris still has a faint woody dry down. Iris Perle is still Iris! And Epona has gone through some changes and is now much more floral. Iris Malikhan is still annoying. LOL.I will wear Epona and Iris Perle again. The rest are headed for my sister.

It always takes me a while to recover from Novocain at the dentist, too. I’ve had the “dribble chin” a few times.

It’s Friday morning here and a clear blue sky – fabulous on both counts!
I’m not sure what I wore the most over winter, but I know I wore Tiger By Her Side a few times, so that’s my choice for today.

Good enough! I don’t keep count and am too lazy to read all the polls to figure it out.

In other news, I cannot believe that we’re already at the tail end of August! We are inching that much closer to Halloween. I think this link is still good so here it is for the people who MUST get the cutest halloweeny decors, or maybe not! Note: There may be a pay wall.

    Fresh strawberries.

Because I enjoyed the woods of Bois Blonds very much yesterday I decided on another woody perfume this morning, Lush Shade but it was the wrong choice I found it overpowering and almost unpleasant even though I liked it very much before. I hope it’s a temporary situation. Tonight as a consolation I’m wearing Angels’Share which I still love thankfully, it’s my only Kilian.

It’s my only Killian too. I would love Sacred Wood though.

Struck out on getting fresh strawberries today at the supermarket. They just didn’t look very good, or smell much at all.

      Time to try somewhere else.

Been awhile guys! Missed you, but especially yesterday. Was at a daytime event thing and a woman commented on my perfume. I always immediately think that if someone comments on my perfume it must be too strong and they are letting me know (healthy, right?). Anyway, I wasn’t wearing perfume, not technically. I was in Diptyque’s body balm, Eau Rihla. When I was leaving she asked me to text her the name–so I think I was just being paranoid 🥴?

    In Fiori di Capri today.

I always think my perfume is too strong when I get a compliment too.

Things are weird professionally, but good otherwise. Kids are good, so life is a-okay—at least for the time-being. ☀️

I hope things in your life are going well. Perfume helps!

      Hiya, Oakland Fresca!

If I ask someone about what they are wearing, scent-wise, it is almost always A Good Thing. 😉

Working though a bunch of Lubin samples, so today: Eva (apparently hanging out in an orange grove) and Magda (for her, a parisian salon). The former is fleeting citrus and the latter is something tuberose, always a hard sell for me.

I am in a favorite of mine this summer-Hermes Eau des Merveilles. Love this! It took me many years to finally appreciate it. So funny how age changed my likes and how scents smell differently than they did years ago.

Experience has changed how I feel about some perfumes, but not all of them. I still love some of my old favorites, thank goodness!

    sotd = Chanel Paris-Riviera

CP-R has what is just about the sweetest florals I can wear. It feels pretty pretty. 🌸

I’m also wearing Hiris as my top-up scent (again) today. That’s 4 days of iris in a row. I feel like I’m going steady with a new beau. 😅

More gorgeous late summer weather here, with puffy white clouds in a blue sky and temps in the low to mid 80s (depending on which weather app I check). Oh yes!!

SOTD = back in Pepper Ylang today in the small of the back.

🌹Voleur de Roses😎 It isn’t necessarily a fragrance I wore or wished I’d worn this summer but here I am enjoying it now!
