Tuesday scent of the day 7/30

Posted by Robin on 30 July 2024 110 Comments

It's Tuesday and the International Day of Friendship. Happy 88th birthday to Buddy Guy! More birthdays: Emily Brontë, C. T. Vivian. RIP Edna O'Brien. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Demeter Gingerale, the best kind of silly. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Troika.

Reminder: 8/2 will be Silly Friday...wear a silly perfume, or a perfume with a silly name, or a perfume that comes in a silly bottle, or ? (Raise your hand if you are the person who suggested this!)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Jellycat Amuseable toy teapot is $30 at Shower Me With Love Charlotte.

I always thought Le Frenchy was a pretty silly name. It was renamed Frenchy Lavande which is hardly any better.

The only reason I have a (nearly empty) bottle is that I received it as gift. I love the fragrance itself but the name and the price are both silly.

    Love the furry teapot!
I’m wearing Malin+Goetz Dark Rum. Love this scent and I wish I could spray it on liberally but it’s an oil rollerball so it wears pretty close to the skin.
My mom is being released from rehab on Friday. I have hired a new caretaker, she has worked in nursing homes and is looking to branch out on her own, and mom likes her, so far so good 🤞

Did you see the film ‘Emily’ that was released a couple of years ago with Emma Mackey? I loved that movie.

Also wanted to throw out my fav Jo Malone layering (too busy to comment last week) of Wood Sage and Sea Salt with Lime Basil & Mandarin- it’s great!

Yes, I did see that movie! Loved it!
ok, I need the Lime one and then I will try 🙂 I am really enjoying experimenting with layering the fragrances. especially in this heat. Jo Malone is thankfully so light most come off refreshing and not suffocating.

Yes, that would be a good pairing of Jo Malone fragrances. I always did the pairing by having one body cream/lotion and one cologne. I never mixed the colognes together. Just personal preference. I like scented body lotions.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Oud Alezan.
In my local Hermes, the 15ml travel sprays set seems to be the most economical/reasonable. Oud Alezan, being an edp costs more than the others from the collection as they are edt. However, in the 15ml form, it costs the same as the rest! So if you have been tempted to try OA out but can’t commit to a full bottle, go for the sets. I bought an 8pcs set with 4 bottles of OA (that’s a healthy 60ml!) and 2 each of Vetiver Tonka and Epice Marine. I also love that each 15ml bottle has their own sturdy, pretty dust bag so there’s extra padding for travel.
I just arrived at Bangkok for a 1 week summer holiday. I can’t wait to explore the city and enjoy the countless delicacies Thailand has to offer. Yay!
I packed a handful of samples (mostly Guerlain & Amouage) and the 3 Hermes scents I mentioned.

As usual, I’m a day late and a dollar short. Forgot all about my Shalimar Body Creme last week, probably because I keep it in the fridge rather than the bathroom. Anyway, that’s my base layer today, which I topped off with a couple of sprays of Summer Shalimar MI.

You know what’s silly? The price of these Shalimar flankers! Silly cheap is what I mean, considering the cost of perfume these days. Well done, almost universally loved by the OG Shalimar lovers (and even some that don’t like the OG Shalimar! Crazy people! 🤣), and accessible if you have The Internet. Curious as to what the price will be of the flanker coming out this fall…

Yesterday, I was checking in a man who had a great sense of humor and fun. We were bantering back and forth, having a good time, when up stomps this woman, smoke coming out both nostrils, butts the man out of the way and stands there with her hands in her hips and yells at me, “He’s not ALONE, you know!” Then proceeds to stomp off. He skedaddled quick as a bunny after her. Yowza, did she think I was trying to steal her man? For reference, I’m old, gray, and fluffy. No man is going to be “stolen” by the likes of me. People kill me. 🤣

Shalimar MI is always good, though now that I bought Romance d’Iris by Zara, I haven’t been wearing it that much. I am very curious about the upcoming flanker this year. Last year, I believe I bought my first bottle of Shalimar MI in September so I am guessing it will be out in a little over a month. Can’t wait.

Sounds like that woman has abandonment issues and/or is extremely jealous.

I know people are raving about some of those Zara fragrances and the price point is excellent. I just can NOT stand their website. I’m glad you found a winner there! You must really love it if MI is now more frequently on the sidelines. ❤️

Givenchy Very Irresistible L’Intense. I think this flanker naming is a bit silly. Also, while I like this particular flanker, seeing the insane amount of flankers Irresistible has makes my eyes roll.

Coincidence, or not? I was just wondering if I should rebalance my 401(k) portfolio and it seems that most do, with some rolling-over theirs to an IRA (or equivalent). It is not an option for me because: 1) the balance (and no, not interested in “managing” it that closely) AND 2) the administrator for my previous employer had and continues to do a great job. My only option then really is to rebalance it based on my available choices. Anyway, today I just got my quarterly statement and I will be doing research. Th aka to everyone who weighed in!

I currently work with a financial advisor, but for a long time I managed my own investments. Checked on them every quarter, looked seriously twice a year, and re-balanced (if needed) once a year. If you determine your level of comfort with risk versus your age and financial needs, it will help you make smart choices for you. Now that I’m in the “last quarter” of my life, some good choices have ensured a comfortable retirement….I am lucky!

I may have tried Gabrielle once ever and was not interested in trying out the flankers. Glad you liked it!

I have a few perfumes from Smell Bent, so this CP is in the bag!

On a less happy note, a couple of wildfires have broken out near me. The first one has probably made the national news by now. I am safe, and definitely nowhere close to any evacuation zones. But the air quality here is not good. I smell smoke if I step outside, and have a bit of a headache now. Bleah!

SOTD = Pepper Ylang Frankensmellie from Smell Bent.

Take care with that smoke–but I have to tell you, the air quality is not much better here, in your old neighborhood!

Sorry to hear that the air quality is horrid back there. You all are getting the wildfire smoke too?

I am running an air purifier that I brought along from New Jersey. Had a feeling it could come in handy. If things get really bad, I have a few KN-95 masks I will wear when I go outdoors.

That’s awful news about the fires. Is your brother’s area safe?

My brother lives further away from the fires than I do. So he’s good.

Oy with the wildfires. Stay safe. Not needed but somehow I have one on each floor and have a spare one just in case.

Thanks. I am easily 40 miles away from both fires. No worries there.

Wearing a mask outside sounds like a good idea, and I’m glad you and your brother are safe.

Scary nonetheless, stay safe, so sad for nature.

Thanks Aurora. It’s tinder-dry here in Colorado right now. The drought map isn’t looking good at all.

Mix of work and play today. First half of the day was work and then went for a brief sniffing at Sephora on my way to eyelash tint appointment. The fragrance section looked as if it had been overrun – most of the tester positions were empty. I sprayed myself with several testers and the wonderful vestige on my skin is either Kayali Vanilla 28 or one of the Sol de Janeiro scents. I was looking at beach inspired scents but a lot fell short – too aquatic – and I ended up veering to vanillas.

I am lately resolving to test anything I intend to buy but it gets difficult because I am committed either to getting lots of samples versus being overwhelmed at the fragrance counter.

I started out the day in Nuit de Nomade Nothing But Sea and Sky which IS a nice (chilly and deserted) beach scent and one of my few successful blind buys. Somehow these newer sandalwood scents give me a coconut vibe, which is fine by me.

I tend to get more overwhelmed by samples.

Sampling Gumamina Odette today. It’s lovely and notes are below. It comes in a fancy swan bottle but beware…the price is not for the faint of heart. ♥️🦢

Grapefruit Soda, Rhubarb, Rose, Orris, Tonka, Musk

I saw a perfume video today that made me think of you. It was supposed to be about Masterpiece Perfume but it turned out to be almost all Poseur Niche! Lol. I just love that you coined that term.

Yes, poser niche describes a good chunk of the last 10 years in the perfume industry I’d say. eheheh 😇

Yes, bottles aren’t cheap. I tried a sample of the other perfume in the black swan bottle and liked it too. ehaehhe but that one is more fall/winter.
