It's Tuesday and National Sugar Cookie Day. Birthdays: Oliver Sacks, Tom Hanks. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Eau de Pamplemousse Rose.
Reminder: on 7/12, we're doing Cologne part 2: wear a modern citrus-based cologne. (If it helps start you off, see 5 perfumes: (great) new wave summer colognes.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is Hypnôse. I just love the purple shade of the juice. Seems like nobody wears this anymore these days. I will be sad if it’s ever discontinued.
I am currently enjoying a thick slice of carrot cake that I made yesterday. Some things taste better the day after and carrot cake is one of them. Oh I also frosted it verrrry generously and it’s great. As a carrot cake purist, I usually don’t put anything else in it other than the occasional nuts; no raisins, no coconut and no pineapple.
Mmmm, now I want carrot cake, too!
I have found a lot of foods are better the next day.
Your cake sounds perfect!
Please save me a slice! I love carrot cake and I love your purist cake ideals! 🥕
Carrot cake is my favorite. Daughter makes it for me every birthday. We are purists as well – no raisins or nuts.
It’s been ages since I’ve brought out my little bottle of Hypnose.
Good morning, all! Back from a wonderful week in Canada, where the extended family gathered at a lovely lake house on Lake Memphrémagog. Amazingly, there were NO mosquitoes; maybe we simply lucked out, or maybe the lakefront community had sprayed some sort of powerful (but undetectable) insecticide that will probably shorten all our lives. Either way, no bug repellant was necessary.😳
I’d brought a generous handful of travel size perfumes, and two seemed to fit the woodsy locale better than others: Interlude 53 from Amouage, and Trayee from Neela Vermeire. There’s nothing “Canadian forest” about either, but the smoke and leather of the Amouage worked beautifully, especially around the campfire while toasting marshmallows for S’mores, and the warm spices in the Vermeire were appropriately cozy. (My daughter and my nieces LOVED Trayee.)
Last night I had a “perfume dream,” if you can call it that. I was wearing Lagerfeld for Men – that’s the only detail I remember, but it was vivid. No context, no reason, no explanation, but I swear I could really smell it. At any rate, my scent of the day has been selected by my subconscious. Happy Tuesday!
Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation, Daniel, and I like the description of the scents you brought.
Lake week with no mosquitoes, score! That lake looks beautiful.
That sounds like a wonderful family gathering. Is your daughter also a perfume connoisseur?
She’s not as obsessed as her (crazy) father, but she’s really getting in to it.😊
I got no mosquito bites after almost 2 weeks in Hawaii and found it a bit unsettling too. 😳
Welcome back!
Thank you!
Mugler Cologne today.
I also participated yesterday in Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli (morning) and Hermes Un Jardin sur Le Nil (afternoon).
I don’t know if you heard, guys… Yesterday we had a massive attack resulting in the damage to Ohmatdyt in Kyiv, the biggest children’s hospital in Ukraine. Apart from the people killed and injured (including children), they had to move some very sick children (for example, with cancer) elsewhere. We can only hope their condition has not worsened and they get the help they need. I am following an anesthesiologist from Ohmatdyt on Instagram, and she posted some really heart-breaking pictures.
Jalapeno, thank you for the tip with washcloth. I tried today with the frozen towel – it is really cooling.
I’m deeply sorry to hear about the attack on Ohmatdyt in Kyiv. The impact on such a vital institution, especially one dedicated to the care of children.
My thoughts are with the victims and their families, and I hope the displaced children receive the urgent care they need. The resilience and dedication of the medical staff in such circumstances are incredibly admirable.
Ugh! I saw that in the news. Man’s inhumanity to man (and children!) has always dumbfounded me. I will NEVER understand it. Big hugs to you and yours.
I saw some pictures, Glannys, and I’m hoping and praying for peace. Sounds so trivial in the face of world events.
I am very sorry to hear the news, my thoughts are with all the affected by this attack.
I read about the attack in the news. I’m so sorry. I hope you are continuing to be as OK as you can possibly be under these circumstances.
We heard, very much so. No words.
I read about the attack on Kyiv. It’s grim and awful and heart breaking.
I just wish this war stopped.
Thinking of you!
I read about that attack and my heart just sank. I have been thinking about it all day.
Horrifying. What people can do to each other, but to do it deliberately to children is unfathomable.
Such cruelty! I am hoping and praying that those who need help are getting the assistance they need.
It is beyond words as Robin said. Sending you hugs and strength, Glannys.
It’s dreadful, and I have been thinking of you and Ukraine.
That’s terrible Glannys. Praying for peace.
Unfathomably horrible. You and Ukraine are in my thoughts often.
So sad.
Horrible and so sad.
Yes, this attack has been covered prominently, at least in the news sources I follow. Horrific and inhumane.
Glannys, ми думаємо про вас. (Translation: We are thinking of you.)
I also heard about what happened in Kyiv. My first emotion was anger. Lots of not-safe for NST thoughts there.
At least the washcloth trick is helping you in a small way.
Yes, I heard about it. So sad.
Today I’m wearing Songes to match the lovely weather outside. On the makeup front, my contact at Chanel mentioned they’re reformulating some of their foundations, and sadly, Vitalumiere Aqua, my favorite, will be discontinued. Guerlain has also reformulated my face cream, and after trying several samples, I’ve decided to commit to a full jar.
Later, we’ll be watching the Euro Cup—I’m cheering for Spain, while my kids are rooting for Kylian Mbappé.
I’m currently immersed in a Viking “Romantasy” novel and watching Vikings on Netflix, so I’m being transported to another era through both 🙂 Also, for the library, reading the Fire Next Time by Baldwin.
I forgot! Tea today is Eros by MF
Oh..and when I mean “lovely weather” I really am being sarcastic. Its hotter than the hinges of hell out there…
Hot here too, and I’m outside for most of the day. I look fabulous and am flame retardant-my ppe is hot. You smell great!
I was wondering!! I have roofers here, day 2, and I honestly don’t see how they do it.
Omg! 😱
When we lived in Houston years ago, my husband was roofing with another guy in August, just unbearably hot. The other guy gets a phone call from his wife, she was checking to make sure the dog was inside because it was so hot – no word about how he was holding up on the roof! We still chuckle over that one.
That is excellent.
How long will the roofers be there, Robin?
They were supposed to finish today, but they didn’t, and I don’t mind at all…or at least, I wish they were done (really, I wish I didn’t need a new roof, it was yet another in a series of unpleasant old house surprises!) but I am glad they seemed to be taking lots and lots of breaks.
And to clarify…I have a small house and you could probably roof it in a day, but it needed major work to soffits / fascia // all that crap plus there were 2 layers of shingle that had to come off.
Glad that they are doing the necessary removal and repairs. I’ve heard horror stories about bad roofing jobs.
Hee hee. I love your clarification.
I only go out in the evenings for a walk
Yay for your Viking immersion! What is the Romantasy novel please?
fate inked in blood by Jensen
Thank you! Will check it out.
Still warm here but not as hot as some other places so I’m grateful for that. I wore Bronze Goddess yesterday. Working alone today so I have the ability to really pile on a stinker but just not in the mood. Corsica Furiosa is always great when it’s >80F, so that what I’m going with.
I got out of the grocery store yesterday under $120! I hate having to download these stupid grocery store apps and give them my email but it ended up saving me $35 so I can’t complain, but I’m still going to! Whatever happened to paper coupons?! Or just having stuff “on sale” for REAL? Anyway, I bought some fixings to make a couple of small 5” “No Bake” cheesecakes, one for me and one for my neighbor/co-worker. I found a recipe that’s fantastic, so I’m looking forward to surprising them. ☺️
BTW, that header photo is GORG! Love the intensity of color!
Congrats on the groceries! I am not as careful as I should be.
Ugh! Who wants to be careful? Buy whatever you want and enjoy it!
Great news on the surprise grocery cost. I’ve gotten to the point of not caring any more. In the meantime, I am salivating on the $5 meals from McD …
I took the kids to McD over the weekend
Mr. Skal and I have been struck by the McDonald’s breakfast ads currently running on US tv (at least, during MLB games) — they are the only fast food or casual dining ads we have seen where we think the food looks appealing. Makes me crave a McMuffin!
I didn’t use to care but now I do…🫠
It’s all to keep track of us. If I were able to I would pay full price for everything and tell them to… $#%^!
Oh, they’ll be keeping track of me in jail since I’m now a criminal…🙄 Guess I won’t be able to use any kind of coupon there! Please send me a Get Out of Jail Free card!
Yum, cheesecake. And the fact that it is no bake is a big plus for hot days.
Well, I accidentally bought two regular cream cheese and two low fat. Nowhere near as good as the one I made last time, which was all regular. Full fat for life! Wish I could send some over to you!
I find that digital coupons get used more often for me than the paper ones do.
$35 in savings is really good!
I thought so, too. The chicken was BOGO so that was a nice savings right there! 🐓
I just returned from a week at our Northern Minnesota cabin, my only SOTD has been sunscreen and bug spray 😂. Today I lathered up with my new LUSH American Dream shower gel….ugg. I hate it. It doesn’t smell like strawberries/vanilla at all, it reeks of cheap dime store perfume. The Super Milk is fabulous, but yuck on AD. I’m going to return it immediately.
American Cream! lol
Oh, so sorry, that’s a shame.
Oh no!!!! American Dream is touchy – I hate the scent of the conditioner, but really like the scent of the perfume. Sorry the shower gel was a dud.
Money saved for me. I do love the perfume!
I don’t know what it is but Chanel no 5 seems to be my go to for days I go to work. Good thing I have enough of it.
You smell great. It’s a classic for a reason!
I almost wore it today. It works anytime and anyplace as far as I am concerned.
Can you believe this, i was sleepy this morning and forgot to put perfume.
I am wearing the only bottle i have at work, Eau d’Hadrien.
House twins
Muguet Porcalaine here-I have no issues with melons, and I love the bottle which sometimes looks green in the light.
I really recommend Anthelios sunscreen, if anyone’s looking for a good one. They have it in a portable stick now too, and that’s a great thing to keep in a purse/pocket.
Thanks for the sunscreen rec! It’s a necessity here.
I am sampling today, Unum Laschia Ch’io Pianga. Barbra Streisand sang it on her classical album and I was interested in a fragrance with the name. It’s a BWF, sweet, and not very complex. Just big.
It’s the third day of triple digit heat and I am running out of things to do indoors. I’ve rearranged the kitchen utensil drawer, swapped out the last of the compact fluorescent bulbs for LEDs, read two books, and hemmed the new living room curtains. I want to go outside without gasping!
Sometimes big is fun! Do you like it?
I went for a walk at 8:30 and was sweating after one block 🙁
Playing along today in Pomelo Paradise, and was wearing Mantes-la-Jolie yesterday, which probably counts as well. Modern colognes are TOTALLY my jam. This is a fun week! And perfect for the weather we’re having in NYC.
So glad you love the project!
Any cologne style fragrance I wear anymore is more modern. Today I’m wearing Aqua Vitae Forte by Maison Francis Kurkdjian and it has mandarin, bergamot, and lemon.
Perfect.
I’m not quite wearing a cologne, not even a modern one, as I’m wafting Carnal Flower. It was quite a hot day today, and somehow CF is even better in the heat.
Yes it is!
It’s hot here too, and I’m wearing You or Someone Like You which seems to be my number one hot weather scent. It’s got a similar vibe to Herba Fresca which was my signature scent for my 20s. I don’t want to wear Herba Fresca anymore (too many memories), but I like wearing its cousin.
About to make pizza sauce and take a nap. I have zero ambition to accomplish anything on hot days.
Your sotd sounds really good. And I’m with you on hot days, I just want to veg.
As much as I love older perfumes, there are many I don’t ever want to wear again due to association.
FWIW, just read that people who nap regularly have 37% DECREASE in cardiovascular disease. Reason enough. 😀
Crazy hot weather is so enervating. 😵
I’m away from home , in Christchurch, as I have to do a talk later in a bookshop but yesterday I visited the former home of detective novelist Ngaio Marsh. She lived in the same house from 1907 ( when she was around ten) to her death in the 1980s and it is a small, cosy, wood panelled house on the hills overlooking the Canterbury plains to the southern alps. She was quite a character, very fond of theatre and directed many plays , having big theatrical parties at her house. She was 5’10” , wore berets, and drove jaguars. On her dressing table were three bottles of perfume Dior Dioressence ( in box), a half bottle of Chanel 5 EdC, and another I couldn’t recognise. I would have loved to try them. She also had beautiful Hardy Amies gowns in silk crepe, bias cut. I also saw her Poe award, very cute, that was posted out from the US when she won. The house had a great vibe. Wearing Coco Mademoiselle. Cold, with the heat pump blasting away as I sit in my sleeping bag on the couch.

This link shows it better
Thank you for sharing…what a gorgeous home! It’s very New England in style…to my eyes at least.
Will pour over her wikipedia page and pick out a novel to read…thanks again for sharing and good luck w/ your book tour. 🤗
That home is beautiful. I love it.
How cool! I’m reading my way through Ngaio Marsh’s detective stories at the moment. I’d read a few before, but after reading one again at my mother’s house place a few months ago, I’ve got really enthused 🙂
Nice house. Now I have to remember to look up her writing. The most amazing part is how long she lived in the same house.
I remember reading all of the Inspector Allyn books in the ’80s, I think. After I finished Rex Stout but before Christie. I should re-read them, they were good.
I was just thinking I should read them again too. I tried to watch the series recently but couldn’t get into it, even though I loved the books.
Drooling over Hardy Amies silk crepe bias cut gowns…
SOTD = Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Vetiver
Nice, although the 8 sprays did not last but it could be because of the Jersey humidity – my A/C works and yet I am sweating like a 🐷.

If you don’t want sad news, please move on to the next post.
My friend with pancreatic cancer passed a way this past Sunday afternoon, may she rest in peace. It was about 14 months from diagnosis to her death. She was accepted to a clinical trial for oral chemo and within 3 days, she suffered a stroke. Her speech was garbled although one of our friends understood her. Perhaps I shouldn’t be shocked but pancreatic cancer is a cruel disease, as some here know. We are having a novena for her for nine days. Even though I am not Roman Catholic, I have joined and will continue to do so until the end. I’ll save the rant about my donation to some other day.
I’m sorry for your loss, hajusuuri.
Oh my, how horrible that she suffered a stroke in addition to the cancer. I’m so sorry hajusuuri.
So very sorry for your loss, hajusuuri and sending you hugs.
I’m very sorry for your loss hajusuuri.
Very familiar with this disease unfortunately. May your friend RIP. So sorry, hajusuuri.
So sorry you lost your friend.
Pancreatic cancer is grim. I’m very sorry for your loss Hajusuuri.
Hugs. 😢
Sending love and light to you and all who loved her. It is so hard to lose our dear friends.
Very sorry to hear about your friend, Hajusuuri. My sympathies.
I am thinking of you.
I’m very sorry to hear about your friend, hajusuuri.
So sorry for your loss. A former coworker of mine just lost her husband with the same diagnosis. Very uncomfortable disease for many. Hugs to you my friend.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Beryl has moved into the Great Lakes region and we are getting light, steady rain and it’s not as hot. It
will be back in the 90s very soon.
I’m wearing No 5 L’Eau, a pretty citrus that wears like cologne.
So muggy here.🥵 You smell great!
I’m waiting on the rain. Disgustingly muggy here too.
My Zara order came yesterday and wearing Zara Tuesday – Totally Terrific today. 😄 Notes are below and am getting lots of citrus, iris and cardamom so far.
TOP NOTES – Bergamot – Lemon
HEART NOTES – Iris – Cardamom
BASE NOTES – Vanilla cream
Sounds like you are happy with your order!
Yes, I enjoyed Totally Terrific. Sillage wasn’t great and it was fairly fleeting but I shall spray more next time. 🙂
I am curious what you thought about Parfait d’ Orchidee. I wrote about it yesterday on here. Have you had a chance to try it yet?
Thanks, Kris. Just read your comments on Orchidee and I shall be trying this one today and will post later in today’s thread. 🙂
I’m in Room 1015 Sonic Flower from a sample. Anyone else cave to the recent email from luckyscent for free shipping *even* samples? I did.
I’ve read a ton of reviews online comparing this to glossier you so I had to try it. I can vouch that it is indeed very similar to my nose. Maybe more feminine, and very pretty. It also is available in a travel spray so I already have one in my cart over on luckyscent. I asked myself if I really need it if I already have You, but I asked the same thing with Tam Dao and 10CC and I have both of those, so I guess that’s my answer.😉
Have you tried the Kylie Jenner perfume Cosmic? (At Ulta) it’s in the Glossier You realm. It made me think of you when I tried it.🙂
I haven’t! But I will look for it the next time I’m there!😀
I also have a sample and found myself asking the exact same question with regard to do I need it when I already have Glossier You. But I have to say the Sonic Flower may lose put to Ella K Musc which might be the best of all of them.
I ordered a sample of that one too! Now I can’t wait to try it!🤩
I had heard that too. I need to try that one so will put it in my sample cart on Luckyscent.
Hello everyone, we had a bad storm here as you may know and it was a lot scarier than the forecast. Wind was very bad and brought down many trees and tree limbs. My house leaked. I lost power for about 8 hours and felt lucky it came back on as over 1 million are still without power. My friend is here to cool off and charge her devices. I don’t think I can stand to live here much longer.
My SOTD is Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Yang. Not cologne but pretty.
Ugh…very sorry to hear the storm was worse than predicted and scary. 🙁 Sending you hugs and strength, Calypso. Hope the leak is contained and can be fixed soon too.
Oh Calypso I am sorry. I am glad you are safe.
Happy to hear you are okay! And that you have electricity already, amazing! Hope the leak is a quick and relatively inexpensive fix. And to think hurricane season doesn’t start until September…😳
Nasty, I’m glad you’re OK.
That sounds awful Calypso. Would you be able to move to another area?
So sorry, Calypso, that sounds very scary. Glad you are ok and cool, and able to help a friend.
I am so sorry, Calypso. Glad you have electricity again.
Sorry. Here in south central TX and we are getting rain and some power issues but not so bad.
Not a leaky house! I’m so sorry. Plus the tree in your Instagram looks terrible, I hope it can survive that limb loss.
Portland can always use more perfumistas….
Ugh. Leaks SUCK. And peak hurricane season isn’t until August/September.
But glad to hear that you have power, and that you are safe.
So glad you are safe!
So sorry your house leaked Calypso, it sounds like it could have been much worse but still. Hope you don’t have to do any major repairs.
Leaks are so stressful, I’m glad you are OK.
I’m wearing the very warming, and completely not related to cologne, Ambre Eccentrico.
I think that is as it should be!
Frozen mango and yogurt smoothie
So, I decided to work on my bottles of EA Green tea because I have four and started on the honeysuckle flanker, lots of sprays. Tonight it’s Devotion from a sample and the verdict is that I’m going to need a bottle, it’s that good.
It makes me happy you like Devotion too! I just picked up a second travel spray. Lol.
So you must really like it, it’s delightful, citrus so good in it.
Great time of the year for those EA Green Tea scents.
Yes, that’s what I thought too.
I feel like a kid on a snow day. Took off from work early to get an injection at my physician’s office and after rushing all the way over there, I found the office had closed early due to loss of internet, probably due to some effects of Beryl. I was a little miffed that no one notified me, maybe short on phone service.
I have LONG begged my physician to let me do my own subcutaneous injection every 6 months and she always refused because she wants it documented that I got it. Today, I was so annoyed I gave myself the injection and it took just a few minutes, unlike the usual process of sitting in the waiting room for up to 2 hours for the exact same thing. And I am paying for my own medicine (quite a lot, actually) so shouldn’t she trust me?
I could play the card that I myself have a medical degree but in reality it is an easy thing that anyone can do after watching YouTube. I started a log with all my injections in case she asks. I think I am going to keep doing it myself until she complains. I bet she won’t even notice.
Wearing a sample of Escándalo from Day Three. I love the gorgeous green fruity opening but more mundane when it dries down. I have nothing like this so that alone might sway me. The discovery set is so nice I really want to find something I want.
What a hassle! Hope she never notices.
That’s ridiculous! The office can charge a fee to your insurance which is why they want it given in office. Absolute hassle to make an appointment and drive there, then wait.. I hope you don’t have any co-pay! If she’s concerned you’re not compliant she can draw an annual blood level, which should be done anyway. I’ve been giving myself IM injections monthly for YEARS. I get an annual blood test to make sure my level is therapeutic. And iirc you’re a nurse, so why would they ever insist on you having to come into the office? Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me.
We are supposed to get a ton of rain, and it’s making me nervous. Fortunately for my house, I clean when I am nervous. I have 2 loads of laundry done. Kitchen floor mopped. One bathroom cleaned. Now I am going to make dinner and clean the kitchen again. It’s like I am cleaning for unexpected company. Lol.
Anyway.. my sotd is Chloe Lumineuse. This perfume makes me want to wear better clothes. It’s very put together. I just love it.
Big hugs to everyone going through hard times and bad weather 💙
Stay safe lillyjo! Impending weather gives me anxiety too, but instead of cleaning, I wander around looking at the weather app on my phone and freaking out. Cleaning sounds much healthier lol.
Oh I do that too! Especially in winter. I will track that snow a week out!
I wish I was getting your rain instead of you. I’d trade weather!
I’ll trade rain for my weather too!
I don’t usually mind rain. Only when it comes too much too fast, because of flooding.
Less busy day today for me. Somehow I injured my foot yesterday while running errands. (Kind of a twisted ankle sort of thing.) Hurt so bad last night that I took a couple of Advil, then had to have some this morning. So I am trying to stay off my feet for a bit.
SOTD = Smell Bent Pepper Ylang EdT and Bliss’ Grapefruit and Aloe body butter in the usual spots.
Stay off that foot and take it easy my friend.
Thanks! I didn’t take any stairs today so I think that helped.
Definitely take it easy. Did you ice it?
I try not to ice injuries like that for a couple of reasons: 1) Ice usually hurts more than the ouch, and 2) not icing actually helps healing faster.
My foot is only a little peeved at me tonight.
Ouch, sorry Jalapeno!
Thanks Robin. Hopefully I won’t do that again any time soon.
Wearing Neutrogena sesame body oil today. I seem to prefer an oil to a lotion when it’s super hot out; not as sticky plus bonus moisturizing benefits.
At night I’ve been wearing my Zara Livre Blanc for the last couple evenings.
Stay cool and comfy, if you can.
Thank you Jalapeno! I hope you can too.
Right now it’s not bad here. But triple digit temps are coming for the weekend.
Beryl has gifted us with rain and more rain here in Michigan. I failed the CP entirely with my choice of Tam Dao this morning, but I smelled pretty!
