Tuesday scent of the day 6/25

Posted by Robin on 25 June 2024 137 Comments

It's Tuesday and Global Beatles Day. Birthdays: George Orwell, James Meredith, Carly Simon, Anthony Bourdain. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Arielle Shoshana Sunday, and my tea at the moment is Mariage Frères Chandernagor.

Reminder: 6/28 is Henry VIII's birthday, and we're off to England. Wear a perfume that is named for a place in England, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to England, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Wild Strawberry Inky Blue Teapot ("This exquisite piece is adorned with hand-drawn vines and ripe strawberries, a nod to the classic Wild Strawberry pattern from 1964. The deep inky blue colour, synonymous with English fine bone china, adds a modern twist to the design, with the vines and plump strawberry motifs enhancing its timeless elegance") is $230 at Wedgwood.

Looking through the shelf of fragrance boxes, and my eye spied Gap Heaven. Not sure I’ve worn it since I bought it. I can’t trust my nose anymore but it seems good. After a few minutes, unfortunately, I’m nose blind. So will have to ask my husband if he can smell it.

Stayed up to watch the incredible 7th game of the Stanley Cup final last night. My condolences to Canada…. I had slightly favored EDM in this series…only because the first hockey game I ever attended was Caps vs EDM. With the great Wayne Gretzky. And I had a bit of a Messier crush for years. But it’s always nice for a franchise to win their first Cup. Incredible series.

I know it’s teapot Tuesday, but in the coffee world, I decided to try a jar of the Nescafé Gold Espresso instant (Blonde). Not bad…not bad at all. I added a small bit to my regular brewed coffee – added a little extra flavor kick. I was tempted by the instant for iced coffee. Maybe next time I see it.

I also was tuned in to the Final. I didn’t have a preference, as my team got booted a while back lol but it was a fun series to watch. Bob was on fire and just looked like a Stanley Cup goalie.

I also tuned into Panthers radio for a bit and the announcer was losing it after the win:). Almost sounded like he was tearing up. That was pretty cool. I loved having the Cup in Vegas but hopefully, they get it again soon:)

I have Gap Heaven! I haven’t worn it in a long while. From what I remember, it’s a pleasant, white floral-y scent.

I’m on my second cup of coffee, watching a heavy storm moving in, then it’s supposed to get hot and steamy. My sotd is Jason Wu Velvet Rouge, for the rose and incense.

I am discovering Celine perfumes from samples. Today I am trying huile céleste, a body and hair oil, smells like a very nice cologne.
I had difficulty getting up this morning, i could sleep all day, instead I have a busy day.

    Hello.
Sotd is Poets of Berlin, a bowl of fresh, sweet and tangy cut fruits topped with sugar cookie crumble and a lace of whipped cream. Perfect to wear to an afternoon tea party.
My living room smells of delicious coffee from my BBW Pink Lavender & Espresso wallflower. Some wallflowers have no strength to them but this one is definitely noticeable!

Diptyque L’Eau Trois for me this morning. Felt right to don (donna?) it in the crepuscular light, suspended between night and day but existing in its own in-between world. It’s that kind of fragrance for me: meditative, transportive, trance-y

I figured I’d do a week of things I bought in England, since I don’t have anything that specifically reads as English. (No Yardley for me.) Today it’s Salvador Dalì EDP, a mini that I bought in London as a set back in probably 2007.

I have a long history with Salvador Dalì. It’s pretty much the scent that got me started on this journey: I’d been buying scents since 1979 or so but only on the men’s side of the aisle. When I smelled this in 1985 I not only had to own it — it was just being introduced in Canada and was available in a 30-mL bottle for $29 or so, which meant I could afford it — but I got a whole lot of my friends, male and female, to buy it, too. After that I was obsessed with smelling everything I could, men’s and women’s alike, and buying whatever I could afford, and I’ve never regretted it.

What a great gateway scent, Pyramus. Along with that striking frosted ‘lips’ bottle. Floral chypres are a fave of mine, more than just florals or just chypres.

Never heard of Global Beatles Day, but I essentially celebrate it every day. They are far and away my favorite group, and I can’t imagine life without their music.🥰

I tried to think of my top ten Beatles songs, but of course it’s impossible – my list would change daily, if not hourly, I’m sure.
    Anyway, today I’d say:
    A Day In the Life
    Hey Jude
    Here, There, and Everywhere
    Penny Lane
Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds
    Don’t Let Me Down
    Ticket To Ride
    This Boy
    Let It Be
    Here Comes The Sun

SOTD is Eau de Magnolia from Frederic Malle.

Thanks! Loved Breakfast With The Beatles.

Yeah, I could have included SO many others – “Norwegian Wood,” “I’ve Just Seen A Face,” “Girl,” “I Saw Her Standing There,” “For No One,” “Come Together,” “In My Life,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Dear Prudence,” “Blackbird,” – the list goes on and on, so a Top Ten is impossible!

Wearing Papillon Perfumes Bengale Rouge today for CP compliance and just because it’s lovely. I’m really looking forward to trying her newest, the name of which escapes me. It would be fabulous if there was a discovery set of her scents. We’re (doggo and I) are alone in the office today, so hoping that no big issue arises.

Just as I was feeling slightly smug about missing the cicada invasion, the insect world gave me a nice slap in the face with love bugs. Apparently, they’re all summer long here, much to my disgust. They have found a way through/around my screens so I spent at least and hour or two with my hand vac vacuuming them up from all over the inside of the camper the other afternoon. Anyway, I closed everything up yesterday and put on the A/C because of the heat and will now keep my windows closed until all these flying, two-headed sex fiends finally die off. I’m okay with bugs as long as they stay in their own lane. Come into my lane and I’m gonna ☠️ your insect 🍑!

    Happy Tuesday! 😎

😂 I get you 100%! We had these bugs in Florida but their “season” of life was much shorter. Even the dog is not interested in chasing/killing/eating these things because they’re so bitter. Birds give them wide berth as well. According to my sources (Wiki 😎) you have about an hour to wash the bug guts off your car before the acidity of said guts start destroying your paint job. 😖
Props to your kiddo for trying to safe a life, insect or otherwise! ⛑️

When I think of English perfumes, the first name that pops into my head is Penhaligon’s. I’ll save that for Friday. This morning the hand went to the decant of Eau Sauvage — such a classic. I broke down and ordered a small FB yesterday. Just when I think my collection is complete, I find that it isn’t. 😂

Eau Sauvage is an excellent classic. The original one from the 60s. The Eau Sauvage parfum that came out a few years back is also great. It has a lovely myrrh note.

Madtown Girl — oh darn, I didn’t realize it was d/c already. To complicate matters further, there was a 2012 version and a 2017 version, Mine is the 2012 with myrrh, (a note I adore) whose label has a black background. The later one had a silver background and no myrrh. I found a mini for a decent price online last year. It’s quite strong so will last me awhile. Good luck on your hunt.

I’m in Glossier You, just because I love it.
It’s another gross weather day. Hot, humid, but there is sun so really I shouldn’t complain.

As with most series that take the country by storm, we rarely watch them in real time. This works out welll for us because instead of waiting year to year for each season, we can just binge.
Anyway, my husband and I started watching Game of Thrones the 2-3 nights a week that madtownteen worked during the winter and spring. Well now that’s she off to summer camp, we have been able to binge the last 2 seasons nightly and tonight is the very last episode! No spoilers please.😉

I really wish I had some Laura Ashley No 1 to wear for the CP this week. Growing up, Laura Ashley was so quintessentially English to me. I had a miniature of No 1 when I was in high school and treasured it with all my heart. I even got a compliment from my French teacher once. Probably my first ever perfume compliment!

Just a sample, not even a fan of it.

I’m your scent twin today. I do have a bit of a story: I bought my bottle at Harrod’s in London, back in 2010. It still smells great! It was my first one from OJ.

Some subtropical weather rolled in today with warm, muggy air, interesting skies, and occasional sprinkles. I went with Aprés l’Ondée, because even though it’s more of an avant-l’ondée situation, it suited the softness of the day. Had to get photographed for a new work headshot and ugh, I do hate having my picture taken.

I’m in a sample Bleu de Chanel EdP today and I find it quite pretty. The Timothee Chalamet ad was on tv recently and Mr. Vee turned to me and said “your boy has lost it; that was terrible”. I responded “I think Martin Scorsese would say otherwise; he directed that commercial.” Mr. Vee gave me the human equavalent of 😐 and started looking down at his phone. We both knew I won that exchange 😂

    SOTD = Chanel Paris Edimbourg

💜 on theme and nice! It’s the most masculine of the ones I’ve tried (all of them). I got the smaller bottle which is very cute!

In other news, how much would you spend on hostess gifts? My usual upper limit is $20 no matter how deeply I value the friendship. If I am bringing food / drinks, I have the same limit. Perhaps I am just a cheapskate? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Many of these are higher, but they sure do look good!

I think it’s possible to find a very nice gift for $20. I just recently bought a trio of L’Occitane soaps for about that, as a hostess gift. I balk at the $44/$76 tin of potato chips on the list!

I did not even focus on the cost until almost the end and thought no way no how. Serendipitously, several years ago I saw the equivalent of the wool coasters for a great price and gave the set as a housewarming gift.

🤔 which reminds me that I have not yet received a thank you note for the wedding gift … said wedding happened in early December …

Paris-Edimbourg is great — I agree with you that it’s the mort masculine of Les Eaux. I gave my decant to my son and he loves it, so much that I’ve given him 50 ml bottles for his last birthday and Christmas. He smells great!

Buddy and I were a couple of lazy kitty kats today, but I have the better excuse to be so since I didn’t get home from work until one in the morning. High school graduations apparently and everyone wanted to go out to eat afterwards. Fantastic chaos but boy does it poop a gal out. I mayyyy go for a small stroll later on before dinner.
I wore Gardenia (BBW), and Sunday I wore Gris Clair. I did not know that was French for color grey or something until I looked it up.

I would have worn a JM today, but I’m away from home and don’t have any with me. I brought a few samples, so I’m testing Pd’E Acqua di Scandola. Loving it so far on this hot day. ☀️This is a beauty, with green and citrus notes playing equal time with marine notes. Not usually my thing, but I looked at the notes, and I think that aldehydes temper it and fuse all the elements into a fantastic beachy/ocean scent. I’ll definitely finish the sample!

We had some crazy storms here this morning. My work had a power outage right up until I had to come in at 3:00. I was kind of hoping for the night off, but glad the power was restored. Also glad I surprised I kept power at home.
My sotd is Terracotta le parfum.

Stinking hot here today, plus another air quality alert for ozone. My laptop said that it hit 100 again this afternoon. Humidity was down to 9 percent before the afternoon showers rolled in. Very thankful for A/C. 🔥🔥🔥🌡️

    To quote AC/DC: “Now I’m mad!” 😡

I waited around all day for the exterminator my apartment complex has a contract with to show up, since I was told there was a work order for my issue. The office even called me this past Saturday to tell me that someone was coming. Another no show. At this rate, summer will be over with before they deal with that wasps nest. Time to take matters into my own hands.

SOTD = commando again, except for Vanilla Vibezzz lotion in the usual spots. There is a rumored cool down later on this week, so I’m hoping that’s the case. Then I can wear perfume again.

Colorado is usually quite arid, but it does have occasional moments of humidity. Like right after a summer shower. Nothing at all like the humidity on the East Coat, though.

I think 105 or 106 was the record high temp for yesterday.

Ozone alerts are more or less a daily thing out here in summer.

No fragrance today; I had physical therapy for a shoulder issue, then spent some time watering my garden in the 90+ degree heat, then napped. I was so sticky and sweaty that all I wanted to do was soak in a bathtub! Maybe I’ll spritz something nice for bedtime. I’m having fun thinking what my CP fragrance(s) will be!
