Lazy 3-day weekend poll ~ open thread, early June 2024

Posted by Robin on 1 June 2024 182 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! We're celebrating the arrival of June with our same old open thread poll.

Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite scented body products for summer, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Note: the Bunny mini tray from Nathalie Lété and Avenida Home is $15 at Indio Durham.

Hello, rabbit x 3 and happy weekend!
I have arrived at Taipei, finished dinner and just checked in. Dinner was Japanese Tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlet). Super yummy.
No perfume for me today because, plane ride and small space. I did however sprayed some peppermint essential oil on my mask!
My favourite scented body product for summer has to be shimmer body oils and boy, do I have an arsenal – MFK Baccarat 540, MFK Oud Satin Mood, EL Bronze Goddess (they don’t sell them this year! The nerve! They do however offer a bronzed shimmer gel type but seems too dark for my vampire skin.), J’Adore shimmer gel, TF Soleil Blanc, Soleil Neige, Nuxe…etc. I also have shimmer powders and body sprays but that’s another story for another poll 😉
Any other fellow magpies out there?

I love anything shiny, sparkly, glittery:).

Bronze Goddess Body Oil is always good. I liked this one design by BBW that has been disco’d for a while. It was a dual pump dispenser, one side lotion, one side glitter gel, with the option to just apply the lotion or the gel, or obviously choose both and get a lotion-glitter swirl. Then a dial on top to choose just how much glitter you want in your lotion. 1-2-3-4. IIRC. It was pretty cool. Was kinda bummed when they disco’d it lol

I’ve got a Nuxe shimmer oil and a Guerlain Vol de Nuit glitter powder with a blue glass propellor bottle and a puffer!
Love them but rarely remember to use them.

I have a travel-sized British Rose body butter from The Body Shop that has a slight pearlescent glow to it.

They have glowy creams!? I missed out! I only have shimmery body mists from them. My favourite is the holiday peppermint scented one from a couple years back. I bought 2.

Had. Past tense. The body butter I have is easily 4 years old. And I only ever saw a glowy cream in the British Rose scent.

AFAIK, it’s all discontinued now. 😒

Rabbit rabbit rabbit, happy first day of the new month, and happy first day of summer! (I was delighted to learn that meteorologists deem the first day of a season to be the first day of the month in which that season officially begins, which means it is summer, regardless of what the astronomical-season sticklers think.)

It is a grey, windy, rain-spattered start to the season, but I don’t care because just for laughs I’m in my favourite CSP layering of Vanille Banane (such fun) and Vanille Abricot (tones down the cartoonishness a little), guaranteed to brighten up any day.

I got a Kindle Scribe recently and I have been reading a LOT. Just yesterday I started a book called Poisoned, about the U.S. E. coli outbreak in 1992-1993 that killed four children and permanently injured 178 more. The first chapter had me in tears, so I guess that’s some good writing.

The author is Jeff Benedict. It’s clearly going to be a rough read — a lot of people suffered and the companies involved didn’t want to take any responsibility — but the topic is grimly fascinating.

I have not read this one, but taught What the Eyes Don’t See by Mona Hanna-Attisha in my water course this semester. It’s about the Flint water crisis, which even (especially?) my sole Michigander student knew little about. Terrific, infuriating book – by the pediatrician who was a key whistle-blower in this tragedy. I learned so much from it.

Forgot the rabbits this month. I was working on some pesky bills, debating if I should get more stuff from the Bath and Body Works semi annual sale. I am making myself wait until payday to see if I truly want more. I did order some candles. Two for my manager, one for me and 2 for my parents. Wearing Eau Premiere today and about to head to work.

Coffee and breakfast this morning with girlfriends. Even better is that we did it about a 2 minute walk from my place…. SOTD was a combo of “Off! Deep Woods” and Jasmin Perle du Thé by Fragonard.

About to go finish repotting some flowers for our front porch. We are due to get rain this afternoon, so I should try to finish it soon….

Back from my trip to Paris. It was amazing, 5 days with girlfriends.
Even though the weather wasn’t great there, i had a blast visiting museums, perfume places, libraries and even went to a concert at Olympia.
I went to the new Diptyque store which is decorated like an old parisien appartement, has a very nice coffee shop, i highly recommend visiting when you are in Paris.
I went to Bien Aime and got some hand creams and Jours Heureux perfume and also did some damage at the Celine store.
    I am wearing Peau Nu.
I am happy to be back and enjoy some sun and nice summery weather!!

I am wearing Caron Piu Bellodgia and drinking a cup of English Breakfast tea. The Piu Bellodgia is a scent I use every now and then because it has been discontinued and I don’t want it to run out.

I bought it in Paris seven years ago. Caron boutique was the first stop we made after landing in Paris and checking into our hotel. I bought this wonderful fragrance and my friend bought Aimez Moi.

My friend ended up giving me her bottle of Aimez Moi a few months later because she felt it didn’t work on her. I wear it sometimes when I am with her. She asked me once, “wow, whatever you are wearing smells great!” . She told me she was glad the scent works well on me .

I know there are some fragrances that work well on others, but not me. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle is one of them. I love the way it smells on others, but I can’t wear it.

    Have a happy Saturday 🙂

Yay rain, which we’ll have another week of. After semi-successful errand running I am staying put for the afternoon. Doing a sniff off of my musk collection aka all two of the. PN Poudre de Musc Intense is nice, but Montale White Musk is softer, which is what I seem to want in a musk. The latter is 100 ml, and the former is 15, so it all works out well.

I’m in Rania J. Lavande 44, partly to repel mosquitos as i went on a trip to visit a castle. It’s a modern castle, built in XXI century and its still not finished so only visiting from the outside was possible bit it was still fun.

No rabbits this morning, and also no luck. Tickets for a concert we wanted to see at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam went on sale today. Mr. Ockeghem checked before bed, and they weren’t on sale yet. By the time we woke up, it was completely sold out. Sigh. Well, seeing it in Essen (Germany) is the backup plan, as they’re doing the concert there the next night…we will see when tickets go on sale on the 15th.

Sadly, there aren’t that many concerts we really want to see in Europe this year…it’s a Bruckner year and everyone’s stuffing their programs with that.

Love and Rockets! I’d be excited about that, too!

It’s a classical concert — Mahler’s first symphony. When we temporarily escape from the boonies, we try to take Ockeghem Teen to see as many world-class orchestras and museums as we can, and it would have been lovely to see the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. But…not to be. The conductor is the new hot 20-something that Chicago just hired, so I imagine everyone wants to go. Amsterdam accommodations were insanely expensive that weekend, anyway, so money saved, I guess.

You’re reminding me that I should look into which bands are touring in Europe this fall, too, as we never get the good tours at home, either. 🙂

It’s the Concertgebouw doing Mahler 1. But if we’re lucky, we’ll be able to see them do the same concert in Essen the next day…will see if we can get those tickets when they go on sale later this month. Essen, of course, is not quite as exciting as Amsterdam, though. 🙂

I was up for awhile before I remembered my rabbits, but said them before I left the house.
I’m in several different scents freshly arrived from STC. Eau de Hadrien, Bigarade Concentree and Mugler cologne on one arm and back of hand and Hermes Eau d’hermes and Eau d’orange verte on the other. My sniff test is picking the FM as the winner.
I’m also thinking about the new Cristalle and currently have it in my basket over on Chanel. Safe blind buy? For those of you who’ve tried it, how does it compare to the original?
Thank you all for the kind words yesterday. It was a long day of driving after a long week and now today I’m feeling quite lazy. The rain is not helping. I’m taking it as a sign that I need a little downtime, so I’m taking it and trying not to feel guilty about it. I did exercise this morning and get groceries, so at least there’s that.

It’s still rather cool for the season but there was some sun at least. Cleaning window project is at half mark.

Diorissimo vintage esprit de parfum today, it was just wonderful, and tonight Vanira Moorea which is my preferred version of a gourmand orange blossom, although I kind of want Oriana.

I love Oriana, I thunked samples quickly. Definitely a sign an FB is in order at some point. I love the bottle as well.

And I apologize not getting back about the Vetyverio. I think it does pretty well in the heat but maybe the EDT would be better than the EDP idk.

      You smell great!

I remembered my rabbits at 12:12 a.m. last nite (this morning) because I am always the last to bed.
Soup Of The Day today is Prada Infusion d’ Iris. I have been wanting to use that sample for a while, just waiting for the right day. It is surprisingly long lasting, and I just could not stop sniffing my arm; I’m sure I looked like a weirdo. Very nicely done.
    Tomorrow’s soup will be Philosykos.

Wrapping up my vacation (sigh) in Commodity Gold.

I don’t use scented body products very much, tending to use Olay or Aveeno oil after my shower at night. I have a small bottle of Nuxe oil but find it quite potent

Having to finish up my organizing/purging of our study. Came upon a treasure trove of old photos from my husband’s grandfather’s business and set upon organizing those, along with decades of family photos. I want to put together packets of photos for my husband’s sibs. This part has really slowed me down but once it is done the photos will be re-homed and distributed.

Not looking forward to 3 straight weeks of work after today.

Hi everyone. I’ve been busy doing some household management things and planning a trip over to Santa Fe in July. It’s sort of for a conference but maybe moreso to get out of Houston weather, and I finally think I’ll manage to get to the Santa Fe opera, which I’ve wanted to do for a long time. It’s La Traviata while I’m there and that’s a good one to see. Things are expensive there, though–tickets, bus ride, and pre-concert meal–I think I’ll do all that but it adds up.

I put on some SL Fils de Joie after my shower today. I had a vial of it in a batch of things I got somewhere, maybe in a split or sample order. Gaah! I about killed myself with two sprays. Skanky jasmine intensified by honey, I really stink big-time! It would take a big personality to carry this off.

I’m in Art Meets Art like a Virgin LE over glossier body hero lotion. I really like this orange blossom double up and I think it will smell great in the heat of summer.
After a terrible weather day Saturday we had the most perfect day yesterday. My son made an impromptu visit to get some stuff he’s been storing at home and ended up spending most of the day. The teen bailed in her friends to hang with her brother and the two of them ended up taking out the canoe for a few hours. Makes me so happy that they choose and enjoy spending time with each other.☺️

I’m doing the cp already since there are so many great Prince songs. Today I’m pairing a perfume from 1999 with the song of the same title. I went with 10 Corso Como. I definitely wasn’t wearing it in 1999 though. If I had any, I’d wear Allure since I remember sniffing it at the department stores right after it was released. I think I got a bottle in 2000 or 2001 for Christmas.

It was grey today but no rain at least, everything is very green because of copious amounts last month, so I went with my gourmand fig to fit the weather, Jo Loves Red Truffle 21 and tonight it’s Daim Blond, I usually layer it with AP l’Agent for more osmanthus but it smells so good on its own too.

Rabbited on June 01. Didn’t have any spare sets of rabbits this time, though.

Summer has decided to kick in the door and make its presence felt. Got up to 88 degrees today. Glad that I have plenty of ice cubes in the freezer for iced teas of all kinds.

Fav scented item for summer: Bliss’ Grapefruit and Aloe Body Butter. Perfect slightly sweet pink grapefruit scent for warm weather.

Kris: I tried the Fleur de Patchouli EdP from Zara yesterday. It’s a hit! Starts off quite floral and slowly morphs into a summer weight patchouli. I haven’t figured out what floral notes I’m getting yet. VERY pleased with this one!

SOTD = commando, but wearing the aforementioned grapefruit body butter on my shins.

I might have to get on the Zara train. Do they offer free shipping?

No free shipping from Zara. But both the perfumes I got were $40. Can’t beat that price, especially for 100mL.

Their stuff showed up rather quickly, too.

It’s quite pretty and solidly composed, too. Feels “finished”.

I hate to say it, but I was almost hoping you wouldn’t like it as I am eyeing that one and another Zara. LOL. However, I really don’t need anymore. The problem is they are so reasonably priced, and they do get them out very quickly.

I hear ya. The only other one I might be interested in seems to be out of stock, so my wallet is safe for now.

I wore Vanille Banane yesterday and today. It’s been perfect for the weather we’re having and keeping me on an even keel. We have my hubby’s parents with us for 3 weeks.
