Thursday scent of the day 5/9

Posted by Robin on 9 May 2024 150 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It’s also Europe Day and John Brown’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Tauer Perfumes Au Coeur du Désert.

Reminder: 5/10 is the International Day of Argania, so we're off to Morocco! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Morocco, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Morocco, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Good morning!
One spritz of Fleur de Caissie. I remember when FM came to Canada-only holts in Vancouver had it, and a friend stopped in, got me some samples, and mailed it to me. I thought I’d love Carnal flower but it was Fleur de Caissie and Vetiver Extraordinaire that caught my attention first, and I bought the three 10 ml sets of each. We couldn’t mix and match the sets-they were prepackaged, and all the same. I loved VE with Une Rose – I thought that was a good scent combination lol. It seemed like such a special line then. I still like it but wish it was a bit more wallet friendly in pricing.

Fabulous! When I first went to Barney’s to try Frederic Malle (back when they still had the red booths), the rep gave me a travel spray of Fleur de Cassie. I went through the whole thing unable to make up my mind on it! Now I have a back-up. 😅

Eek, I feel they’ve skyrocketed in price, as in up by a thrid, and they weren’t cheap pre-2020. Will try to continue to buy travel sprays of my favourites nonetheless.

We intersect on Une Rose and Vetiver Extraordinaire! And you used to be able to get the 5 ml sprays too, I can’t remember if they came in larger sets or not but they were always being swapped, I had tons of them at some point.

Engaged in our CP this week, I find myself reminiscing about Morocco more than ever—remembering its fragrant scents in the medina, I want to loose myself in its literature & feeling an immense longing for that captivating country.

In the Country of Others” by Leïla Slimani (a book I love) features numerous poignant lines about Morocco.
“Morocco is a country that whispers, you have to listen carefully to hear its secrets”

I’m going to read The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies. Then I think I’ll read Athill’s book, Stet, her memoir about being an editor. I may have to wait for it (I get all my books from the library).

    Hello.
Sotd is LV Les Sables Roses. Perfectly matches today’s photo as desert was part of the inspiration!
Great weather outside today, bright sun and not *too* hot. It’s times like this that I have a craving to go on a field trip, or visit some parks. Today for me, I want to go to an aquarium.

Joining Robin in Tauer’s Au Coeur du Desert, one of deepest and richest perfumes I own. I would definitely love a full bottle before it’s no longer being produced or the world falls into the abyss but just can’t convince myself to spend the dollars right now since I have the cute 5ml cobalt mini. 2-3 swipes and you’re set for the day. The small bottle will outlive me, I’m sure.

In other News of Acquisition, I bought the spring LE candle from Glasshouse, the company that produces the dragon candle so many of us went nuts over. I’m not a huge fan of roses but I absolutely fell in love with the dragon candle scent, not only because of how good it smells to me (well, duh!) but also because it’s so such a smooth and refined scent. No sharp edges, no synthetic nonsense, and no ice pick to my sinuses or headache inducing effects. So, hoping the rose scent will be just as smooth, refined, and enjoyable. The container is, of course, stunning! For those interested, here’s a photo:

I feel like a complete idiot, but I have gotten so much joy out of that Dragon candle! It’s a very small thing in a big, turbulent world, but it’s brought me so much enjoyment. I don’t think the dragon is available anymore because I don’t see it on their website. That’s why I scooped up the Rose LE, because once they sell out, that’s it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
My plan is to buy a total of four of them and use the containers for storage behind my stove for bits and bobs. They’re just so pretty!

There is a giftshop called Mint Juleps that has them in stock online. They give their physical address on their website and google maps shows there is a store called Mint Juleps at that address (in Sugar Hill, Georgia). It is not a guaranteed way to tell if an online shop is legitimate, but that is the test I typically use.

SOTM is Carthusia 1681 — definitely CP compliant as it has notes of bergamot, coriander, lavender, petit grain, rosemary, thyme, iris, neroli, black pepper, sandalwood, cedar, incense, ambergris, vanilla and musk. Very soothing and I adore it, but after a shower I will have to switch to something lighter as we’re headed for a high of 80F. Eek.

Wearing a sample of Memo Sintra for the orange blossom today. I have interesting memories of Morocco. The only time I’ve been was in 1981, on a long Eurail P ass (the glory days when you could travel all over for two months with a $200 pass!) trip with a college roommate. We met a Peace Corps worker while hanging out in Portugal who invited us to come and visit him in Chefchaouen. It was so beautiful and so very different from anywhere I had ever been.

I started the day with a craving for orange blossom, so it’s Pur Desir de Fleur d’Oranger Yves Rocher on one arm, and Neroli Oranger Matiere Premiere on the other. The Oranger Matiere is from a sample, so not a lot applied. Both are pretty much gone now. I wasn’t thinking about the CP, but very glad I went this route, and I do believe I’m going to see what other orange blossoms I have on hand.

    Have a great Thursday!

I started the day in Eclipse by Parfums de Nicolaï, I went for a very nice lunch (we could have it on the terrace as the weather is gorgeous today) with a friend. Afterwards we had some tea at my place and I let her sniff some osmanthus fragrances. And L ‘Esprit Libre and Bois d’Encens. So I’m rather heavily fragrant at the moment.

Happy Thursday, everyone! I’m wearing a spritz of “Black Incense Malaki” from Chopard.

On a somewhat ridiculous and thoroughly unrelated side note…
Not that I’m truly concerned, but I’m not sure my new Fitbit is good for my mental health. Yes, it’s pushing me toward healthy goals, but I’m more than a little obsessed with steps, calories burned, Active Zone minutes, (my dog must be puzzled as to why we seem to be running from something on our walks,) and my sleep score, (which rarely gets above “Fair,” I’m afraid.) Is it okay that I pay no attention at all to my resting heart rate?🤪

Pretty soon, you’ll be running marathons in your sleep, and your dog will be giving you the side-eye on those walks

But hey, as long as your resting heart rate isn’t staging a protest, I’d say you’re in the clear. Who needs a resting heart anyway when you’ve got steps to conquer and sleep scores to beat, right

My experience was that eventually I got less obsessive about it, but it did definitely make me move more so that’s a good thing, right? All I pay attention to now is the steps — I ignore all the rest.

I eventually switched to the Apple watch, and do the same thing with that, watch the steps, ignore the rest. I don’t even log my exercise.

I think you’ll get used to Fitbit, too. My first one was very basic, so I was already used to only counting steps. Zone minutes seem to take care of themselves during even slightly brisk walks (I can imagine the look on your dog’s face!). Fitbit’s best use is to keep us honest about whether or not we sit around too much! 🙂

    Wearing Annick Goutal Songes.

Busy day full of meetings, the morning one took 3 hours. Even though breakfast was provided, at the end we were all exhausted. The next 2 hour meeting is in half hour and after our team has a presentation on the 6 projects we inspected in the past three weeks. We have already chosen 2 of the projects to do renovations and additions. Now, we expect management to approve those for us, so we can start moving forward with scoping and design. Both buildings are very challenging, so the amount of work we are expecting is huge . God will provide!

Having my third cup of coffee and a slice of strawberry cheesecake. I am not really in the mood for lunch today. I will have early dinner instead tonight.
    Happy Thursday! 🌞

I’m using a painting by Moroccan artist Chaibia Talal as my inspiration. I like the way the colours are used, almost as if unmixed, straight from the tube and the strong use of contrasts: blue with yellow, green with red. The painting has a joyous vibe, the village connections and so I wanted to match with a simple but happy perfume, Lush Confetti…rose and violet contrasting notes, side by side.

There is nothing that I really want. I have more than enough candles and hand soaps. Their lotions and body gels give me hives but the foaming hand soaps don’t, go figure.

    Apple and yogurt smoothie

On an impulse I pulled out my blue and pink bottle of Noa l’Eau, it’s still a bit early for this perfume which shines in the heat of summer. Tonight I’m in vintage Arpège, certainly one of the best sandalwood drydown.

It was a limited edition which came out 3 or 4 summers in a row then disappeared, it’s a fruity take on the original, apple and cassis on the Noa lovely musk.

That Noa flanker sounds vaguely familiar. It may have been around for a hot minute or so, then disappeared.

    SOTD = YSL Babycat

This is thanks to a swap with MossyBerry several swaps ago. I really should look through my many decants because I uncovered a few gems!

To sum up, this is pillowy iris! 🤍

    https://www.instagram.com/p/C6wlzh5xrvp/?igsh=bG8zYmJnMzBtYzJ2

Also thanks to everyone who responded to my question regarding keeping safe while taking a plane ride. I will definitely mask up for sure although I doubt I can last the whole time. I will try to keep social distance when I am not masked.

H – I sorta remember that swap, and I wonder if I mislabeled a sample of LVEB Iris Absolu! I think I sent you two things. That is so like something I’d do, because I get so worried about doing stuff like that that I then do it!

I’m wearing Thomas de Monaco’s Raw Gold. I just have samples but I keep thinking I’ll buy it.

In other news I’m quitting my Mediterranean diet program after one month. There were some good recipes but I felt like I was limited to eating chickpeas or hummus every day along with cucumbers.

I’m in a sample of the JM Emerald Thyme. It starts out very lemony, but then the dries down to a nice herbal note. I don’t know that I’d identify it specifically as thyme, but certainly “herbally.” I’m assuming this is a repackage of the Lemon Thyme & Sorrel from a previous limited edition series. Anyone know for sure?

Tea today was a bergamote-heavy earl gray mellowed with some vanilla tea from Harney & Sons.

Hello! Hope everyone is well 🌹

    Sampling Red Roses JM
Straight forward rose scent, a bit sharp/green. If one has strong rose craving, this should do the trick.

Tea is Peppermint by Celestial Seasonings. I think I need more of their lip balms if they are still available:)

    Hugs to everyone 🙂

It is a nice scent, but not one I ever felt the need to own. However, over the last few years I have really enjoyed different rose perfumes so maybe I would be more apt to try it again now.

SotD is Miller Harris Tender from a travel spray. I like the ink note, which to me is the saffron and a sweet floral. No FB for me, but it is an excellent composition that I hope will find its fans before it disappears over the horizon. Running off for an early dinner out. Looking forward to reading what everyone picks for tomorrow!

A chilly and cloudy day for me, with at least one rain shower this afternoon. Not the most pleasant weather, but the moisture is needed. And it isn’t severe weather, either. So I guess I can put up with it. 😉☔

Been searching for my Tauer perfume samples the past couple of days. I have no idea where on Earth they’re at. You’d think I would have packed them with all the other perfume samples, right? Nope. (What was I thinking?) They will eventually turn up. I am still rather annoyed I can’t find them.

SOTD = commando again, but wearing Dionis Goat Milk lotion in Peach & Cream on my shins. It suits the cool-ish weather.
