Monday scent of the day 4/15

Posted by Robin on 15 April 2024 142 Comments

It's Monday and World Art Day, National Anime Day, the Universal Day of Culture, plus Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday. If you're in the US, it's also Tax Day. RIP Roberto Cavalli. And a quick PSA: the swapmeet will open for business on Saturday! What fragrance are you wearing?

On one arm, I've got the tiniest dab (it's almost gone) of CB I Hate Perfume On A Clear Day You Can See Forever for the spring bulb connection. On the other, CB I Hate Perfume M #2 Black March because I forgot to wear it last month.

Reminder: on 4/19, we're off to the Netherlands (aka Holland)! (Friday is Dutch-American Friendship Day.) Wear a perfume that is named for a place in the Netherlands, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to the Netherlands, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Gabrielle Essence.
So sad about Roberto Cavalli. My mum and I both love his creations. To honour him, I will spray on some Roberto Cavalli edp later.
I am going to fix myself a bowl of vanilla ice-cream with 2 pieces of pistachio baklava. Gosh I love desserts.

Tax day, ugh. I’m in Lea.
We had the most gorgeous weather weekend and I’ve been sleeping with the window cracked open for the first time in months. More gorgeousness today with highs into the 70s. Despite the sun I found myself standing in the kitchen this morning with tears all of a sudden streaming down my face. The longer days and warmer temps are a brutal reminder that soon my baby will be gone. In less than 2 months she will graduate and then leave for her summer camp job 3 days later. I am thrilled for her, of course, but also find Kate Bush’s lyrics rolling around in my head.
“ I should be crying but I just can’t let it show
I should be hoping but I can’t stop thinking
Of all the things I should’ve said
    That I never said
All the things we should’ve done
    Though we never did
All the things I should’ve given
    But I didn’t
    Oh, darling, make it go
    Make it go away
    Give me these moments back
    Give them back to me
    Give me that little kiss”

Anyway. A lunch time walk with the sun on my face and some uplifting 80s tunes in my earbuds will do me good.🌞 This too shall pass.

I love that song — I love how the lyrics can work in very different contexts. (I usually cry when I hear it, but for very different reasons.)

I’ll be there with you in a few years…sigh. I’m glad it’s a beautiful day there, though!

It is a great song, and one of my favorite movies. I’ve seen it a dozen times or more and that montage and the song get me every time. Apparently she wrote the song specifically for the movie.

        And yes, glad for sun!🌞😎

I have nothing for the community wear on Friday, so I’m just gonna do a week of Etat Libre d’Orange, no reason except that I have sixteen of them (a boxed set of 10-mL minis — I’ve never bought a full bottle) so why not.

Today it’s Antihéros, a lavender soliflore. Nice enough, but it’s really not much besides lavender, and those are a dime a dozen.

I’m feeling the effects of a marathon of gardening yesterday, both in muscles and in allergies. But that ugly patch of dead ornamental grasses (killed by the 15-degree weather in January) is now mostly gone, and the hedge that I thought was dead has teeny tiny green leaf buds on it, so there’s hope! SOTM is SMN Eva to celebrate. 🍃

I’m with you — so much died in that cold weather and I’m waiting to see if a couple of things (my star jasmine, my bay tree) will come back. The hydrangeas and a number of other plants are a total loss, though.

Oh, so sad about your hydrangeas! Blue hydrangeas were my wedding flowers. I’ve been unsuccessful at growing the blue mophead variety, but I have one oakleaf hydrangea and one called Akadama, both of which seem to have survived the cold snap — mentioning in case you’re thinking of replanting.

It is Tax Day and for once, I sent mine in last week. The 2023 tax damage was severe … very very severe. I just hope I don’t get any nonsense from NY like they did for 2021. There were quite a few articles on What Happens if you Don’t File by Tax Day (nothing, if you don’t owe any taxes), When Should You Expect a Refund (“usually” within 21 days of filing … thinking it’s business days but there’s no obligation to do so; however, if it’s later than 45 days, you get interest which is currently at 8% which is better than any Savings, Checking or CDs I’ve ever seen. Some people are still waiting for theirs over a year or two later.), Should You Take All Deductions Available (it’s debatable), etc.

Sadly, though, once they finally do pay your refund with interest, they then tax you on the interest. (Having to file by mail from outside the country, my refund ALWAYS takes the better part of a year.)

I’m CP-compliant in Hiram Green Vivacious today; it’s the only Hiram Green I have though I need to get a sample of Philtre. Cool, overcast day to get back to work, and to continue facing high school hell week (symphony concert last Thursday, band dress rehearsal Friday evening, band concert tonight, orchestra concert and volunteering for new parent orientation tomorrow, parent track meeting on Wednesday night, and the kid mentioned something on Thursday night, too). It’s supposed to warm up later this week, though, so I’m looking forward to more spring.

We’re headed out today. I would stay longer but I have mail to pick-up. This campground is very lightly traveled and peaceful. I’m the only one here this morning. I met a couple yesterday and because we have almost identical truck campers, we got to chewing the fat. They are residents of Oregon, from Portland, and filled me in on the drama of the armed take over of the business offices here on the refuge in 2016. I remembered it in a very vague way, but then went down the rabbit hole last night researching it. Anyway, politics came into the conversation and I had to say “Bye!” but they were very objective in their descriptions of what they feel are some of the issues Oregon is facing. Here’s a timeline of the Wild Wild West style take over for anyone with time in their hands. 🙃

      https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/2017/02/oregon_standoff_timeline_41_da.html

I’m finishing my second cup of coffee, and getting packed up. I jumped aboard the Tonka Train today with Shalimar MT. At first spritz, it seemed a bit masculine but has now settled down into a cozy cotton wool comforter type of scent.

Lovely picture in the header. I’m voting for a photo of a Friesian sometime this week as they are synonymous with the Netherlands and my favorite breed of horse. They have teetered in the cusp of extinction multiple times, but always saved at the 11th hour by Friesian Fans. This type of voting may not count with management but I’m doing it anyway. 😃

Abel perfume has a NZ a founder but began in the Netherlands, and is still produced there. Named after Abel Tasman , first European explorer to visit NZ in 1642. Wearing Black Anise .
Some Netherlands facts that might be helpful for the CP:
The Dutch eat more licorice than anyone in the world ( Licorice notes)
They discovered/ first made gin ( so juniper notes)
Colonised Indonesia so lots of spice connections ( nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, also sugar trade )
Biggest growers of flowers in the world ( not just tulips)
Cannabis cafes in Amsterdam ( cannabis perfume notes)
Sea / marine notes as so much of the country is below sea level

I’ve just had a slice of carrot cake.

Vintage Eau de Givenchy today and tonight Diptyque Eau Lente, it has spices so per Kanuka’s list it’s CP compliant.

I hope everyone is having the happiest Monday you possibly can! I’m in SL Vetiver Oriental. I’ve tried. This just isn’t for me anymore. I appreciate it for what it’s trying to do, though. Will probably put it up for swap on Saturday. 😔

I was in Tonatto Dama this weekend and it was perfect. ❤️

I don’t think I have a lot in my collection that would fit this week’s cp. But I guess my nationality should make my cp compliant regardless of what I wear.
    Today’s choice is Ambre Russe.

I’ve been wanting a new shampoo perfume for a bit, and always enjoyed Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey. I was near a BlueMErcury the other day, popped in and did an impulse purchase of the 1 oz.

They have the perfume inventory displayed on florescent shelving, and my better judgement was overridden by my wants and I let the sales person take a bottle from the brightly lit shelf and box it up for me.

And…as I thought it might, the juice smells off. All the juicy prettiness is gone, it’s a limp and slightly sour scent now. I am going to return or exchange it for something else. Bummer.

    Always trust your gut!!

Oh no! That is a bummer.
I bought some skinceuticals vitamin C serum from them that was totally off too. Was already brown in color. Sounds like they should change how they display things.

I think today I might be CP compliant! SoTD is vintage Eau de Givenchy and I feel so soapy, musky, spring bulb clean. Brilliant in the too-hot weather that’s finally come. (I melt in 71+F weather. Sigh.)

I like Philtre but don’t think I love it yet. It’s intense, and here’s something sharp in it that hits my nose wrong at times. Maybe I keep wearing it on a bad sinus day. It’s definitely worth trying!

And thanks for the good sleep wishes. 🙂

Still commando today because I had such a fragrant Sunday thanks to a lovely package from pl67. 💖

I will wear Philtre later when I head out for a walk. I’m enjoying the gorgeous mild weather today before it creeps towards the 80s later this week.

This weekend we moved my mother in law into an apartment near us, getting her house ready to sell. Since I last mentioned her woes, it’s been a whirlwind of activity finding care for her and husband (who is now temporarily in a nursing care home), clearing out their hoarder house, and helping her deal with a lot of anxiety around the changes. My husband deserves a huge medal for all he’s done and will still do!

Sotd Mon Guerlain Florale. I was looking for a Spring scent, and this works very well post-shower after a day of outdoor activities. Lavender is not one of my best notes, but it plays nicely with all the others in this one. I am not familiar with the OG, but picked this up at a discount just to try something from the line (Guerlain fangirl thinking, you know.)

Gorgeous Spring weather today and I’ve got the windows open to let the fresh air in. Meanwhile I’m wearing the very wintery By the Fireplace 😂 It was the free sample in the Sephora package I got today and I just mindlessly sprayed when I opened the box.

Tea today is a strong brew of F&M Breakfast to fortify me for a very unpleasant work call with opposing counsel this morning.

Netflix is filming some scenes for an episode of The Night Agent at the house across the street from me. Everyone in the neighboorhood got fliers letting us know they would be there today and tomorrow and warning us that it would involve lots of police cars with sirens going (presumably so we won’t freak out and worry about the neighbors who live there). There have been trucks and equipment and people in and out of their house for the past two weeks, and today there are maybe 75 people there on the front lawn. So much work to film 10 minutes(?) of tv! I’ve never seen the show but I assume we’ll have a neighborhood watch party for this episode once it is out.

I lived in a small town where they filmed part of a Clint Eastwood movie, Pink Cadillac near it and ppl there could not be more excited. It was fun having filming around, another was when I was at the Fallon Naval Air Station where Top Gun was filming and Tom Cruise was seen walking around lol. Ppl were kinda losing it haha. But it was pretty cool though:) I love that movie:)

I’ve been watching dark clouds roll in over the afternoon. The wind has been kicking up, too. It’s just a question of when will the rain start. I’m wondering if there will be any thunderstorms, since it’s been so warm lately.

Tax Day 2024. Ugh. ‘Nuff said.

SOTD = back in AG Mandragore Poupre, from The Sample Stash. I have just a bit of this and the Mandragore left. How long will it take to thunk those samples?
