It's the first Friday of Spring 2024. (Also, World Water Day and William Shatner's birthday.) Our community project for today: wear a spring floral, or any fragrance that says spring to you (if you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I’m in Jour d’Hermès (again), although if I could find it, I'd be in Frédéric Malle En Passant (I included both in 5 perfumes: pretty spring florals).
Reminder: 3/29 is Astrud Gilberto's birthday. Wear Robert Piguet Fracas (her favorite) or wear a fragrance that fits her music, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Current snow squall be damned, I’m in First, because someone (Glannys, I think) mentioned it earlier in the week. So pretty.
Yay! You smell awesome!
Thank you for another reminder. I’m going to be twins with you today🌸
I am in Un Air de Samsara, and its mix of mint, bergamot and narcissus is very primaveral. And it still has Samsara’s distinctive powdery sandalwood under all these greens and florals, albeit it is not as rich and warm as the original.
You might have heard there was a massive attack on Ukraine last night. My town is fine, but there is either complete or almost complete blackout in Kharkiv, for example. Lots of people are without electricity now.
I am so sorry, stay safe Glannys.
I am looking at the story now in the NY Times.
Stay safe and well, Glannys.
Such ugliness – glad you are safe.
Every time I read about yet another day in this war, I think of you, hoping that you keep safe and continue to enjoy the small pleasures you can find.
Oh no! I’m so sorry this is happening there. Take care.
Damn. Glad you are okay but so sorry about the attack and (of course) about the ongoing war.
Yes, I read that this morning, I’m so grieved for your country. Yet I’m glad you’re safe and hope your town continues to be spared.
Saw that and immediately thought of you of course, stay safe.
I’m thinking of you and your country, Glannys. And sending you a big hug.
I think of you when I see news about Ukraine, it’s dreadful, and I’m so glad you’re still safe.
I follow the news about your country closely and think of you when I do. It’s always so good to see you post that you are safe despite everything. 🤗
I’m very glad you are safe. My heart is heavy for everyone in the Ukraine.
I’m glad you are safe, but very sad for those who aren’t. Praying for a speedy end to this awful war.
I am so sorry about this Glannys and my heart goes out to all the brave people of Ukraine facing unimaginable horror.
Glad you have power Glannys, and so sad for everyone who doesn’t.
Sending 🍀❤️ and protection
I’m glad you’re ok, but I’m sorry you have to live with this war. I’m always thinking of you when I hear news of Ukraine.
I bet you smell lovely! That’s one I’ve never tried.
I am always glad to read that you and yours are safe, Glannys. I love Un Air – a flanker that seems created to be fun and playful, not just to churn sales. I learned about it from a 2011 article and review about Samsara on Bois de Jasmin. Under the section, “Samsara Family, ” Victoria says “Guerlain Samsara exists in extrait, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and several body products. Guerlain launched two flankers to Samsara, which were very good. My favorite is Un Air de Samsara (1995), the jasmine and sandalwood of Samsara embellished with a bright streak of green notes and mint. Less exciting, but pretty and coquettish is Samsara Shine (2001). Its tart accents of pomegranate and apricot play up the ylang-ylang and rose notes of the original, resulting in a joyful, sparkling fruity-floral blend. Although these fragrances have been discontinued, they can be found online and at TJ Maxx at bargain prices.”
Wish I’d been around when these were at TJ Maxx!
I love Un Air de Samsara! It really is like having a breeze carry Samsara to you. I’m glad you’re well and hope your power stays put!
Your mini review of Un Air de Samsara sounds lovely. Glad to hear that you and your loved ones are safe, but saddened to hear that other Ukrainians were not as fortunate. Be well!
I’m in Clinique Happy from a mini gwp. I always think of this one as a spring scent. My daughter was wearing the lotion when she was home over spring break and she smelled so nice. She smelled like honeysuckle to me, which is not even listed in the notes lol.
We woke up to snow just as predicted. I’m guessing about 2 inches so far. It’s not really sticking to the roads, which is a good thing. I think I will head to the big mall today. I’d like to check out some merit makeup at Sephora and I reallllly need a new swimsuit for Florida. I can’t remember how long I’ve had the one I have, which means too long! Time for an update.
Merit makeup! I can’t quite remember where I first heard of that brand, but I am currently trying and loving their Minimalist stick (not exactly a foundation, but that’s mostly what I’m using it for). Also their face blending brush is fantastic.
That’s good to know! The minimalist is on my list to try. It feels really silky when I’ve tried it on the back of my hand. It’s finding a match that is the hard part. I hate the lighting in Sephora, everything always looks different when I get it home.😏 I think I first saw them on insta. The concept appeals to me. I’ve been doing “minimalist” make up since before it was a thing. A little under eye concealer, a good mascara, blush, lip and I’m good to go.👍
Their website might actually be more helpful than trying swatches in Sephora (gasp!). It has a find-my-shade thing where you can tell it what makeup shade(s) from other brands work for you and it tells you what the closest Minimalist match is. Worked well for me anyway, and no Sephora lighting issues.
Clinique Happy is an oldie but goodie and fairly cheap too.
Yes, it’s a classic!🌼 I almost always have a mini on hand from gifts with purchase. The minis are the cutest.
I really like Merit’s makeup – the minimalist is really good for easy complexion evening out/ correction. My favorite product of theirs is their lip oil in the shade Marrakech – I have never gotten so many compliments about a makeup product ever. I actually used it up and need to replace it, which never happens for me with lip products because I have about a billion of them.
Okay, another vote for the minimalist! I really need to try it. Did you find it was hard to find the right shade? I’ve gotten concealers before that work on the back of my hand but then when I go to put them on my face, they are not right.
The lip products look great too! I’ll have to pay attention to that shade the next time I’m in Sephora.
I actually got shade matched at Sephora by a sales associate, and she chose a shade that works really well for me in every season except summer. When this summer comes and I’ve got a bit of a tan, I’m going to go back to grab the. next darker shade.
I am in Guerlain Apres l’Ondee for the CP.
Happy Friday! 🌞
I considered wearing that, such a beautiful fragrance for spring!
It is definitely one of my favorite spring scents!
Perfect choice for today.
Thank you!
Hello and tgif!
Sotd is Hummingbird. I smell like a spring-appropriate bouquet. Love it.
This morning I took a stroll in my local park and I glanced at a patch of grass thinking to myself “Spring has really come” and right there, amongst the green was a four leave clover! 🍀 Google said it was something like 1/5000 chance to meet one randomly so I’d say it’s good luck! I wish everybody a lucky Spring season as well! 😊
Wow! Go buy a lottery ticket!
Loved your good-luck find! May it continue for you!🤞
Yay! That’s even better than rabbits.
Green for springtime, and I’m in the preposterously bright-green Mugler Aura EDT.
That one is preposterously bright-green. Nice pick.
I’m in Jour d’Hermes and Goutal’s Chevrefeuille for the cp.
Tea: coffee with skim and Droste cocoa powder
Snow! At first, I could not believe we got a bit of snow last night, but then stopped and thought about the fact that it’s late March in northern Illinois. We’ve got blooming daffodils and hyacinth and green grass, so it’s Surprise! Snow.
Surprise! 😒 March. My fantasy is to spend every March in Hawaii.
Yes, I agree! I’m in the same place as you. My blooming daffodils and hyacinths made it through the overnight snow which has since melted, 🤞they make it through the next round which is just starting to come down now.
I got a rueful smile from Surprise! Snow. I’ve been warned that it can happen where I am at now.
Hello all!
I’m studying like crazy before a huge test today. I’m trying to keep hopeful, but there’s a lot of stuff to memorize this time.
I’m ready for all my points in DelRae Wit. It should be a beautiful day, though unfortunately I’ve let some work pile up.
Have a great day everyone!
You get all points and more in Wit💐 And here’s to even more points on your test? 💐💐💐
! not ? There’s no question you’ll do well😊
Thank you! I should have the grade tomorrow. Luckily the professor doesn’t keep us waiting much.
We are house twins. Fingers crossed your test will go well!
Fabulous! I wish I still had a sample of Debut. Thank you.
Good luck today. Hope it all goes well
Thank you! It seemed okay, though it’s definitely my hardest class.
Good luck!
Thank you!
Good luck!
Thank you!
Good luck!
Thank you!
You smell lovely, Coumarin, and I hope the test went splendidly.
Thank you! I think I passed, but maybe not flying colors.
Yay! Plus you often seem to do better than you thought you would.
You are not wrong at all! My friend said the same thing earlier. I think part of it is that I get a lot of anxiety waiting for results.
Deep breaths, now that it is over.
I’ll wear my En Passant for you today. It is my favorite lilac perfume.
En Passant is a great Lilac perfume.
Twins! But it is certainly not matching the current snowstorm.
Go En Passant 🙂
I am wearing Do Son edt, smells like spring to me.
I will go visit my mom later. My haircut turned out to be good, i think i finally found someone who listened and understood what I was saying, didn’t cut too much, he was really good.
Maybe he is a keeper!!
It’s amazing how much a good haircut can brighten the day.
I have had terrible luck with hairstylists, glad you are happy with yours!
Glad to hear that your haircut turned out well!
En Passant! I did manage to find a boxed sample vial I had in my stash. My older travel-size spray has turned, alas. But the fresh sample is a beauty.
I’ve had a couple of FM travel-sizes go off too😔
It might be that I can’t find it because it turned and I threw it away…I’ve had several of the old minis go bad.
Well, all my final, final interviews are done. DONE.
Slept badly last night.
I think post shower will be Silky Woods as we have just a few more days in SoCal where I can comfortably wear it.
How did you feel they went? When will you hear something? Crossing my fingers!
Oh gosh, I never know how I do.
One should be today or Monday, and the other one will be first week of April.
Sigh.
Thank you for crossed fingers!!
Done and dusted! Hope it turns out well.
Such a marathon it was.
see what happens.
Want
to
Retire
Sigh.
Hopefully this is your last job!
Thank goodness that stage is over. I hope you have a better sleep tonight.
The long process is over! You’ve done all that you can, so I hope you are able to rest well tonight.
Fingers crossed for you!
At least you are through with that gauntlet.
At least you are through with that gauntlet.
It’s raining here at last, so we get to observe the functioning of our newly constructed French-drain/dry-creek-bed along the street. For the CP, I nearly went with Malle’s Eau de Magnolia, but in the end chose the queen, Chanel 19 EDP. Happy Friday everyone!
The Queen indeed! I hope your French drain contraption works!
I had so many options for today’s CP but in the end I chose DelRae Début. Such a shame the house no longer exists!
Yes, they issued some true masterpieces. I have several bottles of theirs including Debut. Might have to pull it out and wear that tomorrow!
I wish someone had bought their formulas, to keep them alive. I saw this happen with a defunct yarn company recently….
Chanel No 22 on March 22 for the CP. [mic drop!]
We’ve had a few lovely days of spring, but winter-ish is back for the next week or more, cool gray and rainy.
I love no 22! You smell good.
Nice to see you and you smell at least 22 ways of fabulous!
Excellent choice!
Nice to see you again!
Good to see you posting!
SOTD = Lush Fresh As
Grapey lime! 💜 Maybe I was influenced by jalapeños’ question yesterday if I have tried the new Starbucks lavender drinks. No I haven’t but I am now inching closer to doing so …

Cruises? Sure! I go on cruises every so often, usually once a year. There was a hiatus from 2020-2022. I know not everyone shares this enthusiasm but you do you; truly, I understand. I read this article a few days ago and this could either make you want to go on one or continue with No, Thank you. I vote for the latter 🤣.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/19/travel/cruise-ships-things-you-dont-know.html?unlocked_article_code=1.ek0.Idmg.uTx0HSDSF6UE&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
Huh, I’m honestly not surprised they have a morgue since some cruises/ cruise lines appeal to a more *ahem* mature audience. I could never do an oceanic cruise. Being out to sea and unable to see any shoreline would cause me MAJOR anxiety. Nuh-uh, no way. But I could do a river cruise. I would actually love to do a Mississippi cruise from the twin cities down to New Orleans, but alas, they are not cheap.☹️
I grew up in a family funeral home. My grandparents lived upstairs, just like on Six Feet Under.
I know where lots of morgues are.
I like the larger ships but I can see the appeal of a smaller one!
I have no desire to go on a cruise, no need to even read the article. 🙂
LOL 😂
I went on a cruise last summer with my mother; she wanted to see if she could do on solo, with her limited mobility. Unfortunately not, but she has started asking if we want to go on another one!
You should!
Those huge cruise ships have zero appeal to me.
Did not try anything new from Starbucks yet. Been tempted, though.
Oooh, I did today. Went to Target and decided to try the matcha lavender with oatmilk. It was quite good!
One of the weirdest films I have ever seen is the William Shatner movie Incubus which is entirely in Esperanto and has a final scene of Shatner fighting a goat ( the Incubus) in a Church . At the start he drinks water from a well that cures his lame leg…here’s a clip but the whole movie is on you tube for Shatner fans. Or Esperanto fans. Wearing Couche du Diable for the match.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhgl7wL8h-8
😃Thanks Kanuka, sounds outlandish.
I have a feeling I enjoyed reading your description as much as I would enjoy seeing the film…so thanks for seeing it and describing it!
This sounds epic.
I send sympathy to everyone with snow today. (Shudder)
My SOTD is Delina. I wasn’t very creative and saw the pink bottle and thought “Well that looks kind of springy.” And it’s always so pretty it makes me feel nice. Just checked the notes and rhubarb is in there–that’s a springy scent, right?
Thank you to everyone who sent support about my brother the other day. He’s doing a bit better but has pneumonia, which means they have to treat that before they can continue with any more chemo. But for now he looks and feels somewhat better and that’s a positive thing.
I’ll be going over to the hospital to visit later this afternoon.
I’m glad your brother is feeling a little more comfortable and I hope they get on top of his pneumonia. Life can feel so stripped back and other-worldly with hospital cancer care . It’s good to connect with nature. Sending you lots of love.
I’m sure your visits make a difference.
Sending you good wishes for improvements to your brother’s health!
Thinking of your brother and you – I hope his pneumonia is better soon. So sorry that chemo has been so rough for him.
Sending good wishes for your brother’s health to keep improving.🤞
My best wishes for your brother and a good outcome.
I wouldn’t mind some snow! I definitely wasn’t expecting to get sweaty walking to class today. I hope your brother recovers quickly and easily.
Hoping that your brother gets over the pneumonia quickly and continues to improve. Hugs.
Had a meeting with a lawyer today and the only option left is bankruptcy. My biggest job right now is getting paperwork together and setting up a payment plan. Wearing Kyoto for some zen.
I hope you can find a way through this stressful time. Best of luck, Dawn.
I’m just now reading your blog. I’m not far from you in WNY!
Sending you positive thoughts on a path forward!
Oh my, that sounds awful. Hope things will get better soon!
Sending you courage.
Good luck with everything, Dawn. I hope it’s onward and upward from now!
This sounds very stressful, I hope everything works out for you.
Oh Dawn,
I was 40 and getting divorced when I stood in bankruptcy court.
You can do this and get through it.
Wishing you good energy.
I hope this process goes as smoothly as possible for you.
I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Sending you positive energies and thoughts.🤗
Here’s hope that things will go smoothly from here on out!
Hoping it goes as smoothly as possible and you can create a new life plan for yourself going forward.
I hope the zen comes through and things improve from now on.
Hang on to the zen, Dawn…we are all rooting for you.
Bon courage, Dawn!
Thinking of you, Dawn. I hope this will allow you to make a new start. Hugs.
So sorry you are going through this.
Twins today with Hera in Do Son, which I have via a sample from another NSTer (thank you). Since I’ve been having trouble with Fracas (maybe I will wear it for next week’s CP and see how it goes), I am a little surprised to be having no trouble at all with Do Son. I read the review of it in The Guide this morning and nearly splorfed — TS is NOT a fan.
we smell good, I am enjoying it a lot !! I even received a compliment which happens rarely.
I’m wearing Magnolia Mist by Providence Perfume Company, a perfect spring – and summer – floral. It’s a very cold and cloudy day and it does not feel like proper spring yet but magnolias around here in the DC metro area are in full bloom, at least the grandiflora ones.
I wore that earlier this week.
We have lots of magnolias in bloom but it’s too cold to smell them!
Definitely will miss seeing magnolias in bloom.
CSP Vanille Banane today. I need to shake a leg and get moving before it starts raining again. ☔️
Get moving Deva! (I am so late you probably already did, long since)
Twins with galbanum in First!
You all make me want to have my bottle in the front row this month.
I really need to find a vintage bottle of this!
I’m really going for it in Carnal Flower today. I seldom wear this because it’s so strong on me and honestly I always get this fear of indoles when I think of it. But wow, it’s so beautiful and does not get too indolic.
I did cave last night to the Luckyscent offer. I bought the Pierre Guillaume discovery set and a few samples. As much as I would like to have celebrated with a full bottle, I’ve come to realize I get much more mileage out of trying new things.
Nothing wrong at all with getting a luxe sample set. Enjoy!
Mango, spinach and yogurt smoothie, took a sip, very good but I’m having coffee first.
These early days of spring is the time when I wear mimosa, I have four including L’Occitane Fleur d’or et acacia which is probably my favorite but today I chose Caron Farnesiana EDP which is my most original. Tonight it’s Badgley Mischka from a coffret which came with two little 15mls and a mirrored atomizer, very fancy and I found it for £10 on clearance IIRC and promptly bought another. It may be my only eg of the Fruitchouli genre and, it’s very fruity but well blended I find.
Mango can be extremely tasty in either sweet or savory dishes. I don’t doubt for a second that your smoothie was delish.
Happy Friday! I’m in Chopard Wish, will switch to Mon Guerlain Intense later today.
Happy Friday cazaubon!
My first full weekend at home since the beginning of February! I’m really quite excited about supermarket shopping and housework. Post-shower, I’m thinking of my recent purchase of L’Or de Louis from Arquiste.
My mother is doing very well, but I’ve had to arrange so many things for her. and it’s exhausting. I’ve spent nearly 40 years working in government agencies, if anyone can deal with this complexity, it’ should be me. I’ve nearly gone mad, what hope does a 93 year old with hearing problems and no internet access have?
I’m glad you can relax this weekend. I hope your mum continues to improve. You are a champion negotiating all the agencies , ACC etc.
Your mom is so lucky to have your help. I hope you can relax and just chill out this weekend!
Ugh. Hope it is almost settled.
Demeter’s Beeswax for the CP. Every time I pull this out, I wonder why I don’t wear it more often. I was hunting for DK Gold, but that one must be packed away. Beeswax is great, and I love it on its own or layered. I like it with Penhaligon’s Sartorial.
You guys smell amazing. Be well.
Sounds like a case of perfumed serendipity.
Today I’m wearing the glorious De Profundis from SL. In spite of its name, this one always says spring and joy to me. Sparkling green notes and earthy violets, how could I not love this one? 💜
Twins!
Yes! 👏🏻👏🏻
Even better, look what I found on the interwebs! 🎉🌟🥳
(Hoping this isn’t old news!)
https://beauty.feedspot.com/perfume_blogs/
I did not know it…
Yay for NST!
NST is too good to keep to ourselves, it seems.
I’ve joined the group wearing En Passant today. It’s drizzly and gray here so I am reading and enjoying a quiet day. It’s leftovers for dinner so I don’t even have to cook!
Perfect rainy day!
We’ve had such a mild winter and many unseasonably warm days already this year it figures that when today’s cp is to wear a Spring floral that I’d wake up, like some of you here in the Midwest, to my world covered in snow 😣! But I love to do the cp each week so I was brave and chose Guerlain Champs Elysees edp as my SOTD. It’s been called ‘Spring in a bottle’ and, looking at the notes, I can see why; the plethora of notes contain pretty much anything that blooms in the Spring. Although some have said it’s primarily the mimosa note that’s prominent, for me no one note sticks out, just a well-blended floral medley, soft on the skin, very pretty. I’m imagining what it would be like to stroll along the Champs Elysees in the Springtime – my one and only trip to Paris was in October and strolling down that street even then was pretty darn nice! Would love to do it again April or May🤞!
I first smelled it on a former coworker whom I’ve lost touch with but it always reminds me of her and the happy times we shared back then – a unique individual, wild naturally red curly hair that so matched her personality, originally from England with that very dry and slightly off-color British sense of humor, and Orthodox Jewish as well. The power of scent memories!
The overnight snow melted quickly but now we’re getting our second dose. Glad I don’t have to go out today, will be getting out my Easter recipes later and turning my thoughts to 🐣🐰🥚🌹Wishing all NST’rs a good weekend ahead!
Sneaky, late-season snow!
Laila, you’ve made me want to revisit Champs Elysees! Have not smelled it in years.
I’m joining AnnE in De Profundis. I’ve never thought of this one as sad or gloomy despite reviews saying so. Definitely a gorgeous spring fragrance. We’re back to gray skies and rain (after our incredible 70 degrees last weekend) but that’s okay — cherry blossoms are out and we know warmer weather is coming!
I find I always reach for De Profundis for funerals. It’s calm and peaceful for me. One of my favorites.
I bought it last October when my mother died, it was very soothing.
And I think it’s the most beautiful color ever.
It is gorgeous!
De Profundis is very much a late autumn scent for me.
I’m in the Jour d’Hermes crowd. It’s usually a scent I choose on bright and sunny days, and today is cold and rainy. It’s still great!
I hope everyone is moving into relaxing/ rejuvenating weekends. Maybe it’s just me, but this week has felt long and heavy. Perhaps it’s because the sun is rising so late?
It was a tough week, but I feel lightness around the corner.
I finally decided on Chant d’Aromes, from a 2016 Bee bottle tester. It is not the powerhouse I expected, but it’s rather cool today so it may not be able to bloom. I’ll re-spritz later and hope for better results.
Chant d’Aromes is so pretty! I used to have a bottle of around somewhere. I don’t think it was ever meant to be a powerhouse; do try it again on a warmer day.
Will do!
I don’t recall Chant d’Aromes being a big powerhouse type perfume when I sampled it, either. It was quietly well behaved on me.
I have a similar bee-bottle as you! I’m not shy, but it’s a pretty calm scent. I love the base, with it’s slightly warm spicy tones.
Wearing Guerlain Meteorites today, matching the violets that are poking up through the soil. It’s so nice to see the plants that are starting to come to life. Last night at bedtime I sprayed myself with Chanel No. 19 Poudre because it was mentioned earlier in the day.
Happy Friday, all!
I love Meteorite, especially in the Spring! One of the few BUB I’ve bought. Must pull it out soon.
Violets blooming in someone’s lawn is a sweet sight!
I’m in the green floral Tom Ford Vert de Fleur today for the CP. I haven’t worn this decant in a long time so I figured I should give it a wear. This is a nice one but very reminiscent of other classic green florals that are more distinctive.
That must be why I can’t remember what it smells like!
Taking a quick break from dinner to post. Busy day today, plus my brother was checking out something with my car that I noticed. Nothing serious.
Tried out the new Frosty flavor at Wendy’s this afternoon. The Orange Dreamsicle isn’t bad. But it could have used more orange flavor in my book. Teflon kitty was a fan, and kept licking the outside of the cup.
SOTD = back in Rosabotanica again today.
I was looking for a Little Caesar’s near me and there really isn’t one. The Wendy’s near me also closed down. I’m glad you enjoyed your Orange Creamsicle!
