Happy Friday and happy National Marzipan Day! (Birthdays: John Singer Sargent, Jack London, Ruth Brown.) Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with honey, almond or both.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm taking a point for the almond in Marni Rose.
Reminder: 1/19 is Dolly Parton's birthday! Do what you like with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I doubt I will get out of the grocery store today without some marzipan – your yesterday’s and today’s pictures are perfect, Robin. Going for almond points in My Insolence. I always thought I was smelling some type of tonka that did not get too barber shop on me with this one. But in searching for almond, I can see that it somehow tames the tonka in My Insolence. I really enjoyed this CP!
If I saw marzipan as pretty as those pictures, I’d be in a second! Not likely to see it luckily 🙂
TGIF! Wearing Jo Malone Honey & Crocus for the CP.
Happy Friday! ☕️
Happy Friday pl67!
Thank you, Robin!
That JM sounds pretty, and you get double points for it! Cheers to your Friday cup. ☕️
It is a great scent! I love it! Unfortunately, it was a limited edition and nowhere to be found, otherwise I would get backup bottles.
I’m so tired of limited editions. I was just thinking that the marketing whiz who came up with this concept had a stroke of pure evil genius.
1,000 flights from O’Hare already cancelled, and the day’s barely underway! Back in L’Eau d’Hiver for the honey/almond combo.
Dallas looks a mess too. Glad I am not flying today!
I flew this morning, but luckily only from SF to SD.
Its cold in Cali today.
I have my little heater on next to me at my desk.
There were quite a few flight cancellations in Denver today as well.
I don’t even like marzipan, but that image looks delicious.
Taking some honey points in Chergui. This scent is mesmerizing!
Doesn’t it look tempting?
And bet we will see lots of Chergui today 🙂
You smell great!!
You say honey, I say SL Miel de Bois. I know it smells urinous to some but I’ve never gotten so much as a whiff of pee: it smells like lush flowers and wood and ladlefuls of honey to me, an extraordinarily beautiful composition. (But I rarely wear it outside the house just in case someone should think I’d wet myself.)
The snowstorm the other day — 6” of snow that turned into hail, then rain, and then froze up — has an exact sequel arriving tomorrow. We’re getting our weekend groceries this afternoon and then hunkering down for a day or two.
I have definitely gotten the whiff of pee but I started out liking it and now I love it.
Enjoy sheltering in place this weekend!
Sounds like perfect weather for soup! I have a winter/brown rice hunter’s soup in the crock pot as we speak.
Exactly my thoughts on Miel de Bois! It’s a perfume for evenings at home.
No urine for me. I was quite shocked to find out Miel de Bois smells like this to a lot of people. It is just a beautiful sweet honey and woods to me!
I’m wearing Luctor Et Emergo for the almond. Marzipan is probably the one food that I most anticipate during the winter holidays. I will drive an hour to get to stores that have marzipan anything. Before Christmas last year I got some Marzipan Stollen, and my sister got me a marzipan chocolate bar for Christmas.
I’ve been joining you in the Marzipan Stollen all week. Just finished it! 😋
I’m wearing Hypnotic Poison for the CP. It smells so good on a blustery day!
Are you getting hit by this winter storm? It just started here.
You smell wonderful. Sometimes I see someone say a perfume smells like HP, but really there is nothing else like it.
Yes it’s snowing like crazy. I live on a hill (more of a slant) and I’ve been watching cars fishtail and slide all afternoon. Looks like you’re in for a lot of snow, lillyjo, stay safe!
When HP first came out, I would smell it at every opportunity bcs I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. It turned into a craving and I bought it. The bottle I have now is about 5 yrs old and it definitely smells like HP.
I should give Hypnotic Poison a sniff. I’ve noticed that some things smell quite different to me in Colorado than they did in New Jersey.
That’s interesting! Wonder if it’s because of the change in humidity.
I’m thinking humidity is a big part of it. So is temperature. Colorado winters are a lot harsher.
Yes, Hypnotic Poison is definitely on my list of scents for surviving a snowstorm. You smell amazing!
Thank you Glannys!
Hello and tgif!
I am wearing my glorious honey, Bee.
I love marzipan anything, well, maybe because I have an extremely sweet tooth. I can have desserts as meals. 😋
I can have dessert as meals too 😀
I have been known to eat dessert as a meal too. 🙂
Yay for cp points!Serge Lutens Rahat Loukoum for the almond note!Gorgeous stuff!
I’d rather eat a marzipan bar covered in chocolate than actual chocolate, just saying!
Happy Friyay kids!
XO’s
And THANK YOU everyone that left a comment for me yesterday.I did read them all!(I bet Deva will enjoy my fanboy in Fils de Dieu!🤣🤣✌🏻)
I’d rather eat a marzipan bar covered in nothing! I love marzipan, and spent a summer in the capital of marzipan, Lübeck (not because of the marzipan, but it was a nice side benefit). But I agree, if chocolate’s involved I’d rather have it on marzipan. 🙂
Oh how awesome that you were in a place named Marzipan!Love that!I can do plain marzipan as well!😉✌🏻
Well, it’s not named Marzipan, but Lübeck is the home of Niederegger, pretty much the best / most ubiquitous marzipan in Germany.
I don’t think I’ve ever tasted marzipan…but if I did, I think I like your take on it best. I smelled that SL a long time ago and loved it. Not sure why I didn’t pursue a bottle…Smelling delicious over there!
Thank you!I like the idea of wearing a “turkish delight” fragrance for a marzipan challenge!Lol!In my mind it makes total sense!
I don’t think I have ever had it either.
You smell wonderful! On my one and only trip to Paris, I visited Serge Lutens, tried on numerous fragrances there, walked around for a bit several times to see how they developed, and brought home my one and only bell jar, Rahat Loukoum; a perfume memory I’ll never forget!
That is a lovely memory and of course, a stunning fragrance!
I would eat marzipan naked OR covered in chocolate OR in a torte! My local bakery makes two marzipan tortes… one is covered with figs and the other covered with 🍐 🍐 pears! Both are absolutely divine!
Oh my, now I will dream of that tart.
😁😁😁
Double points for me in L’Occitane Terre de Lumiere. I got this in an advent calendar years ago and probably tried it once, but it came up in a search of my spreadsheet and was my only perfume with both honey and almond, so here we are! The little bottle is pretty.
I remember that one!It’s pretty.
Oh, I love this one, too. Great choice!
Absolutely no points for me in No.22, but it somehow fits the marzipan theme in my head!
I have a bit of stollen in my fridge right now, might nibble on it later 🙂
No 22 is wonderful.
No.22 > points.
Hello there!
I had big plans to wear either Chergui or Bois d’Armenie today, but I couldn’t find either sample. Bah! So I gave up and wore what I really wanted to, despite having worn it nearly daily since it arrived — say it with me now: Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin! It’s not like me to go this long without some variety, in my desires if not my reality, so this must be a very special fragrance. I hope it isn’t laced with something illegally addictive. Happy Friday everyone!
Happy Friday, SheriG!
Wait, wait, Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin? Really? 😅
You really are smitten, lol.
I feel your pain of not being able to find a sample that you know you have, grr. I was going to wear Bee today but couldn’t find mine. Oh well, we smell great anyway!
I know — I’m Johnnie One Note lately! I’m not familiar with the Amouage you’re wearing today, but our tastes seem to run in very similar channels so I’d probably enjoy sitting next to you and inhaling deeply. 😁
Yes, you probably would! I think that we are, if not fragrance twins, perhaps fragrance cousins.
I hope you didn’t mind my little bit of teasing there. 🤗
No worries at all — good-natured teasing is expected Chez G!
Can you describe this addictive fragrance?
I get in my streaks, too. If you fall head over heels, enjoy!
I’ll try — it is a very soft, very slightly animalic amber/leather with a not-too-but-a-little-bit powdery iris and other floral notes. On me, at least —ymmv of course. Looks like some commenters on fragrantica get too much cinnamon (I don’t get any) or too much skank (I don’t get any of that either), so perhaps it isn’t a good blind-buy candidate.
It sounds like a winner!
Happy Friday to you, SheriG!
And I’ve had a few perfume monogamy streaks. Enjoy the ride!
After this much talk about almonds, I am going to make some almond cookies today. I am wearing Hermes Jardin à Cythère . It says it has pistachios but I am smelling almonds.
I have two funerals to attend this weekend so I feel very depressed. Two of my friends lost their father in the new Year.
I’m sorry this is such a depressing time for you, and for your friends’ losses. I hope the cookie-making helps cheer you up.
My condolences for your losses in your friend-circle. I hope you will all find comfort in the services and in each other.
I’m sorry for your sad times. Wishing you well
Two funerals is a lot but I’m sure your presence will be a comfort to your friend.
Sending 🤗 🤗 for comfort.
I am so sorry Hera.
Two in one? My sincerest condolences. Wishing you peace.
I am sorry to hear this. Take care of yourself as you offer comfort to others.
I’m sorry, Hera. Just your presence will be helpful for your friends.
Very sorry for your sadness
So sorry to hear about this.
An easy decision with Serge Lutens Rahat Loukoum. I’m making a batch of Semlor buns later this week. Cardamom brioche bun, hollowed out and filled with marzipan, then topped with whipped cream. Lord have mercy they are delicious and decadent.
Twinsies,yay!
Ohhhh, you had me at cardamom brioche — yum!
Triplets, and those buns sound *amazing*!
When will the Semlor buns be ready? I might have to invent an excuse to stop by. 😋😁
I might just be coming along for the ride…
Hop right in!
I’ve just googled Semlor buns, they look fabulous. NSTers have taught me so much about food as well as perfume 🙂
That sounds delicious.
I never heard of Semior buns before but they sound delicious and, yes, decadent! And you smell wonderful in Rahat, think I’ll pull that one out tomorrow.
Cardamom brioche sounds perfect for making a batch of French Toast.
Wearing Eau de Hongrie today for they honey note. Not looking forward to next week’s uber cold temps.
You smell lovely and I’m joining you in not looking forward to uber cold temps, at least for the PNW.
I only have one eye open as of now but coffee is in the pipeline so two eyes should be fully open soon!
Bad weather yesterday with winds so strong I ended up pulling over and overnighting in a casino parking lot again. So thankful for these businesses who allow parking like this! Hope everyone who’s is getting tons of snow dumped on them is home and safe and warm! I saw some photos of I40 yesterday and HOLY COW!
I was thinking about which perfume to bust out today as I was giving T-Rex her morning belly rubs. Just looked it up on fragrantica and sure enough it has honey, just as I suspected. It’s listed as “white honey” which I never heard of in my life but, there’s a lot of stuff my brain has not embraced, even at this advanced age. 😀 So, I’m in Vera’s Onda VdE today. Does it get any better?! Nope!
Put my sniffer to good use at a freestanding Sephora yesterday morning and delighted to report no lemmings were born even though I did a good amount of sniffing! For those on a “no buy,” may all your lemmings die a quick death. This is my prayer for you. 🙏🏼
You prayer came true for me today!I had a mini sniffathon and sniffed a lot of new-new and new-to-me as well!
Byredo Animalique was the only standout, but not a convincing fb-worthy test.
Heaven can wait is still on my radar, but I’m hesitant to spend $$$$$ these days!
Basically I’m quite happy with current stash!
The prices!! 💀
Thank you for your prayer!
Appreciate the “lemming removal prayer” very much!
Sotd is Mon Précieux Nectar from a very generous NSTer. The almond, jasmine and orange blossom fit the cp and also happen to be perfect for much colder than usual temps in the PNW.
Stay warm everyone!
Stay warm yourself!
Humidity makes cold temps feel even worse.
Wearing my only known honey scent, Slowdive. With luck this normally bedtime scent won’t make me sleepy, as I have a banking appointment today.
Twins with you today; Slowdive is so opulent!
Happy FriYAY all! My SOTD is De Ma Mere Shelley Kyle, linden, honeycomb, beeswax and mimosa. One of my absolute favorite scents.
Everyone have a good day today and stay warm!
O my gosh, that sounds beautiful.
I am so out of touch with brands and releases these days.
Your marzipan photos have been wonderful, Robin! Especially yesterday’s: I was staring at those little strawberries for the longest time. And the eggplant. Today, potatoes! 😄 I’ve also been hankering for my favorite marzipan bar, Ritter Sport. Target, here I come.
Today I’m wearing Amouage Journey Woman for the honey note. I don’t think I would have chosen this by just reading the notes (too sweet,) but it’s gorgeous! I will enjoy this sample.
To me Journey is more beeswax than honey, so not as sweet and more amber-honey. Enjoy your Ritter chocolate. I used to eat that when I lived in Germany but I can’t find it here…yum. The hazelnut one was so good, and the marzipan.
That must be it, then. Also, maybe also the saffron it’s supposed to have?
Yes on the hazelnut chocolate, too. My first choice. I think those are the only two they make with dark chocolate. All the rest are milk chocolate, which I don’t care for.
Are you having summer today?
It’s not too bad and I e just been for a walk around the cemetery – lots of baby rabbits (kits/ kittens?). Very small and cute.
So cute. Mention of them reminds me of the time we had a momma build a burrow for her babies underneath our shrubbery one year. Our dog discovered them, and we had to build a fence around it so couldn’t get to them. Good thing we noticed them in time!
You smell great.
Thanks!
It is a very good thing that I have no bakeries near me with this sort of thing…
My intention was to wear Profumum Roma Confetto today for the CP– a beautiful mix of almond, anise, vanilla, musk and amber. But instead, I am joining others and wearing Chergui which has been calling to me all week. Chergui has been a long time off and on love, but I think it’s definitely been more “on” the last few years.
Very cold here in Seattle this weekend but I know it’s even colder elsewhere. Stay warm and safe, everyone!
Confetto🥰.
The OG Chergui is so thick right now. You smell lovely, would have and are.😊
Annie – the Confetto is the decant you so kindly sent. I’ll be wearing it this weekend! ♥
Awwww. That’s extra special.💗
It seems that almost everyone in the US is getting walloped by the weather right now.
I am wearing one of my few gourmands today, Botrytis by wine maker Ginestet. So i am smelling of honey and quinces, which is not a bad thing in the freezing cold we are having here. I am now ripping out a sweater i hardly wore to repurpose the yarn, hoping i will have enough for a new project.
I almost wore that today. You smell wonderful
Snow on the way. Closing a out a high intensity work week with Day of Meetings. Yay.
And awarding myself a CP point for POTL.
Yes to points, and to the work week almost over! I hope you enjoy your evening.
Thanks, AnnE! One more meeting to go…
Sounds like you are in dire need of some R & R this weekend.
Aren’t we all?? It’s a long holiday weekend and I hope to make the most of it.
I hope your move was uneventful & the cat is not too stressed out!
As far as I can tell, Jardins D’Armide is the only scent I have with both honey and almond notes. Wearing it even though it doesn’t smell remotely like marzipan….
That’s ok, still points!
Mmm, today’s photo is so yummy. I’m in an extra-big helping of Rahat Loukoum, which I’ve been reaching for a lot recently. For me it’s a perfect comfort scent, sweet and snuggly but never cloying, odd enough to be interesting, and always delicious.
I second all your thoughts on Rahat 👍.
Due to my stated aversion to marzipan I am not following the CP (Indeed I am amazed at people’s passion for it!). I’m trying another of my free samples from the other day, Mind Games Caissa, which is a kind of pleasant scent that starts out with a licorice note but is now mostly white florals. Later I’m heading out to have lunch at an Indian restaurant and then I’ll visit my mom.
While nothing like what many of you are having or will soon have, our own weather is cold–for us–we’ve gone from 75 yesterday to 55 today. It’s sunny but VERY blustery out. I look forward with pleasure to wearing a sweater and a jacket–after being in one of my old t-shirts yesterday! But good luck to so many of you in this very scary winter situation.
I hope you have a nice visit today with your mum. Treat yourself to something non-marzipan and delicious!
Enjoy your lunch and the visit to your mother.
Yum on the food. Good moms are the best.
Happy Friday, Calypso.
Hope that you had a wonderful lunch and a rewarding visit with your Mom today,
We had a day of summer (30C) which I spent in the garden. I stopped using all weed killer many years ago and so every nook, cranny, crack and flower bed is an oasis for oxalis, clover, dandelions, cleavers, chickweed and aluminium plant . We still don’t have as many moths at night that we had twenty five years ago but have noticed more variety in the insects we do have, including ozone or two native bees which live in the soil and don’t produce honey…they are black and quite small.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/environment/99580630/native-bees–small-solitary-and-under-threat
Robin, I hope the gym went well. I have been going for two years for weight training now and it’s like keeping a diary or reading a book. It’s a slow and steady business that takes longer than you think for real progress to show, but suddenly you realise you’re 200 pages in and from then on it’s pretty amazing. I also think you can do a lot at home with a couple of sets of dumbbells and some resistance bands once you have a good programme and good form in place ( I use 10kg for sit ups and ab exercises and legs , 8kg for arms and it all works well. Just watch your shoulders, especially doing tricep or arms above the head stuff as they are slow to heal if you hurt your rotator cuff.
No weed killer here, either! My neighborhood sprays constantly, professionals on top of the regular. Now, they are spraying for mosquitoes and airborne insects.
I’ll leave you and Robin to excersice. 😉
Do you also prune and drop, leaving your pruning where they fall? I swear that the more gardening I do the messier everything looks ( as I leave everything for soil cover, insects rather than dragging it away). I came across quite a few huhu beetles yesterday. They are big and beautiful .
https://www.landcareresearch.co.nz/tools-and-resources/identification/what-is-this-bug/huhu-beetle/
I do prune and pickup when I can, lol. My dog races around parts of the yard that haven’t been used in forever. He likes the game, my head doesn’t. So many bugs, ticks, beetles, worms and wasps.
They aren’t pretty!
No Huhus here.
I do make a mess, like inside, too.
Oh good for you Kanuka!
I use resistance bands and kettle balls at home, have for years, and have no problem keeping to a program because I can do that in front of the TV… I get bored sitting watching tv anyway so prefer doing other things while I watch.
Plus, watching people in my family age without adequate muscle mass is frankly very motivating.
But yoga & qigong, those I can’t seem to make myself stick to at home. So I had a lovely time at the gym. I think yoga & qigong are more immediately rewarding than weight lifting, in terms of how happy and relaxed I feel after…and boy do I adore a dry sauna!
I’m one of those marzipan heretics who believes it looks so much better than it tastes, but I am not a fan of almond in food. Or fragrance. So today I’m at the honey end of the spectrum in Guerlain Tobacco Honey. I still like Slowdive better for honey, but this is nice. Today’s snow forecast has been pushed forward 24 hours, we are looking at a snowy Saturday I think. Still no consensus on the amount.
Tobacco Honey was all honey on me. One spray and it knocked me over.
The initial blast is a little overwhelming for me, too. Then I get more tobacco than honey until the drydown, when it switches to being more honey-forward.
Sample worthy?
If you like honey and tobacco notes 🙂
O. Foxbins. I love them.
I’m in my favorite almond scent, and one of my favorite perfumes in general: Lea. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s been sadly discontinued but I continue to look on eBay for any unloved bottles that might pop up.
Thank you ALL for the birthday wishes yesterday!😀 I did not get back to respond, but I read and appreciate them all. NST is the best.☺️ I had a quiet evening at home watching The Breakfast Club, eating take out lasagna and my favorite Chantilly cake from Whole Foods.
We have another snow day today! We could get 13 inches! Luckily it’s my day off and madtownteen does not have school, so we are hunkered down.❄️
Hunkered down twins!
I could watch The Breakfast Club a million times over and not tire of it. My son packs his lunch bag like Andy. Lol.
https://youtu.be/u3mupIlFIYQ?feature=shared
❤️the Breakfast Club.
😂 I love that movie.
Wishing you belated birthday wishes and a happy and healthy year ahead full of wonderfully fragrant happenings! 🥳
Thank you Laila!
13 inches! Hope you have another good movie to watch 🙂
The predicted snow amounts in the Midwest are something else!
I’m wearing Kiss me tender by the queen of sweet Patricia de Nicolaï.
It turns out it is one of the few almond scents I own.
It’s still quite cold today so it’s been nice to wear all these gourmand fragrances.
I really wish I’d bought a small bottle of that. You smell great.
I’m in Apres L’Ondee, which is is gorgeous and I wonder why I don’t wear it more.
due for a snowstorm tomorrow, so I’m going to get a few groceries tonight and maybe do nothing tomorrow. I could use a down day, for sure 🙂
You smell so good. Beautiful!
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
🍯! CP points! ❤️
I’m probably one of several wearing this wonderful perfume. It was my first Serge Lutens after the obligatory split/decant (way back when …).
https://www.instagram.com/p/C2AtPnoxgK4/?igsh=MThwazBsM3gzaXIzeg==
Like a few here, I am leaving to get some provisions … not that I will starve but I have a few wants that can only be satisfied with freshly bought food.
I think you were the first person I saw wear Chergui when I came to NST.
👍👍👍
I love snow! I’m just getting buckets.
I heard about what happened with the NE Corridor and all the trains today. Bet you were happy not to be stuck in that mess!
I’ve been looking at some of the snow in the US, I hope all the US NSTers stay safe.
I wore a tiny dab last night from my dwindling sample of Slowdive. I really like it, but I don’t think I’d wear it enough to justify a FB. Although that consideration hasn’t stopped me in the past…
Today has started off quite warm, so I might wear something summery that I haven’t worn for ages like Un Jardin sur le Nil.
Enjoy the Un Jardin sur le Nil weather! We will steal it back from you eventually 🙂
I left work early and am probably in for the weekend. I am supposed to work tomorrow but if we get the predicted 14 inches of snow, I won’t go in.
I am wearing Infusion d’Amande for the cp. Wishing a safe weekend to everyone!
I meant to add.. I hope cm8 pops in for this cp!
I did ! Someone here reminded me 🤪🤣
Glad you are staying in this weekend!!!
Woo-hoo! Glad you had time to post!
😻😻
Stay safe & warm!
I’m just praying to keep power. The winds will be pretty bad.
That’s my biggest fear, not for us as much as for my mom.
You smell great and stay safe!
Thank you! I will.
Hope the snow misses your home
Thanks Kanuka.
Smart cookie, leaving work early today. Hopefully you won’t get 14 inches of snow.
Snow Miser is setting up a vacation home in your area!
🙋♀️
Snow Miser!🤣
Stay safe and warm, lillyjo!
American friends remain warm and safe.
Clementine, apple and yogurt smoothie
I pulled out an obscure little perfume by YR, botanical perfume whatever that is Flower party by night for almond and tonight a favorite with honey and almond Réminiscence Tonka.
I love wearing Rem. Tonka to bed.
It’s a great scent for bed, so comforting.
So, do you have any BUBs of Rem Tonka? Or just a big honking bottle of it?
You have Rem Tonka too, I remember you love it. You know me well, I have a 100ml bottle a quarter gone and one BUB, that should be enough.
I had a sample of Rem Tonka, but I am not sure where it is at present. Moving + lots and lots of samples.
The only Reminiscence perfume I have a FB of is Patchouli.
I have several honey and/or almond fragrances I could’ve worn for today’s cp, but I was surprised that one I’d never thought of had an actual ‘marzipan’ note (according to fragrantica) so that’s what I chose for my SOTD, DKNY Pink Macaron from its Sweet Delicious line. Nectarine and kumquat on the top; marzipan, pomegranate and rose midnotes; and a base of tanka, amber and woodsy notes. I’m enjoying it very much – a bit tangy and not too sweet – and I’m claiming extra points for the actual ‘marzipan’ note as well as the marzipan stollen I’ve also been enjoying eating all week!
Winter finally arrived here albeit slowly early this week with colder temps and a bit of snow but today it came with a vengeance. Winter storm warning til tomorrow afternoon will bring us 8-12” of snow and then falling temps to below zero. Already had blizzardlike snow this morning with a bit of respite now but supposed to resume and be worse tonight. Most schools are closed and parks and libraries have cancelled their programs. My library was supposed to have a pop-up winter sale of games and puzzles that I was supposed to help set up today and work tomorrow but luckily that has been postponed. We had a nice busy week with numerous music programs and yoga classes we attended, so I’m more than happy to tuck in for the whole weekend with 📚 and 🎥 and 😻😻😻. Went grocery shopping yesterday so we have plenty of food 🍕🍔🍟🥘🍜🍛.
Wishing everyone a good weekend ahead however you spend it! ☃️
Happy to hear that you are safely hunkered down with the kitties!
And I’m happy to hear that you and Teflon kitty made it safely to Colorado. Wishing you all the best as you begin this new life chapter!🤗
I flew home to San Diego from San Francisco today, thankfully no risk of snow in my travels. Had a good visit with my dad. I brought mom’s ashes with me for our journey north this summer to take her home to where she was born, her final wish.
I’m joining the crew in SL Rahat Loukhoum, a longtime love.
Of course you did. My mother and my brother in laws ashes are all around the world. My dad chose to be buried.
It is of course – a bittersweet journey, hugs to you.
I can see a little box of my mothers ashes here from where I am sitting at my desk.
Hugs back to you too. It is bittersweet indeed.
Glad you got home ok. Bittersweet memories.
Thank you, I’m glad to be able to do it for her.
Glad you had a nice visit with your Dad and that you can fulfill your Mom’s wishes. Sending you big hugs!
Thank you. She was a proud Canadian all her life and I’m glad to be able to fulfill her wish.
Glad that you are back home safe and sound.
Are you also home safe now in Colorado?
Glad you had a good visit with your dad and that you had fulfilled your mother’s last wishes.
Thank you, it was good to be with him.

You smell great!
SOTD is Indochine for the Laotion honey. And my number one don’t ever leave me two bubs favorite fragrance.
I hate marzipan, although perhaps I should say it hates me. Growing up in a German family, I can still smell it and avoid at all costs at Christmas markets.
I have an interview for a one year fellowship for the city of Los Angeles
on Wednesday. I am beyond excited. From April 2024 – April 2025.
Then I would turn 72 in May 2025 and be done!
Favorite fragrance? Didn’t know that was really possible.
So excited for you. You are too good not to get it.
Great Friday news!
Well, today it is my favorite fragrance.
It is perpetually enshrined in my top 5.
Your wit kills me.
Feel free to send all your marzipan to me 😝
fine. That means I would have to get close enough to it first!!
😂
Oh, that’s great! I hope it all works out. And Indochine is “chef’s kiss” wonderful! I completely understand two BUB’s!
Crossing fingers for you!
Best of luck with your upcoming interview!

I don’t have a masters or PHD like so many of the people that are engaged in this group do, but oh gosh I know why they reached out to me so quickly.
Thanks all for the good wishes. :):)
In Buddism part of the eight fold path is right work or work with good intention.
Over the years I have been on a lot of not for profit projects because they are mission driven and that matters to me.
So I am going to do my best to be prepared.
I can’t imagine any sensible person not taking into account your years of experience, which really constitutes multiple PhD’s. No diploma, doctorate, or certification can replace hands on experience. If they don’t hire you, they’re blind and don’t deserve you!
Deva, As a nurse who will have a special place in heaven, thank you for writing this!
SOTD: Creamy Candy or something like that.
I ordered the Embark testing and my puppy will happily participate, I’m sure.
Has anyone else done this?
Wishing all of my snowy NSTers a safe weekend.
Hope that your weekend weather won’t be too nasty!
I wish it was a big ole blizzard!
Has there been a lot of flooding in your area?
Late reply, but I did Embark for my mystery mutt a few years ago! It was fun. She’s a mix of chihuahua, mountain cur (which I’d never heard of before), maltese, rat terrier, supermutt, and Boston terrier :). It also told me that her stubby little tail is genetic–it wasn’t cut.
A kind NSTer reminded me tgat today is MY day so I’m popping in. Jergens Original Scent Cherry Almond Eau de Parfum on my neck and DSH Marzipan EDP on my wrists and on the tops of my feet my own homemade blend that I made for a friend who likes Italian rainbow cookies which smells like marzipan
You smell delicious!!
Thank you !! I’m going to add Louvre to the mix !!
It’s so good! I wore it to bed last night.
Oh, lovely! 🙂
I’m a walking marzipan 😀
Glad that you popped in for your CP!
Well hello there! I hope you’ve settled in nicely in your new apartment!!!
There are enough boxes here that I could easily be unpacking for a month! I still haven’t found my kitchen knives…
😆
I hope you find them soon!!
Jasmins Marzipane, for the name, though I don’t really get any marzipan. Oh, well!
Glad the week is over and killing forward to a long weekend.
You smell wonderful, although I don’t get the marzipan note either. 🙂
Greetings NST!
I have Internet!! So that is my big accomplishment for today. Turns out that I did not do anything wrong in my attempt to set up my router. There were some setting(s) that a tech had to come out and deal. Best of all, no charge for it!
I started to unpack my perfumes this afternoon while waiting. Looks like everything survived just fine on first glance. There are a few things that I will be looking to rehome later on this year.
Today was a “nice” day here for winter weather. It got well into the 30’s here, and the wind died down enough that I was motivated to take out some flattened boxes. Alas, where I live does not have any recycling at all. I cringe a bit each time I toss cardboard into the Dumpster.
SOTD = virtually wearing SL Le Fille de Berlin, from the cute, cute, cute mini that I have of it. This was one of the things I found during the unpacking. I had also considered a virtual spray of Angel EdP for the CP, since I am pretty sure it has honey in it.
What I am actually wearing is more of the Boyfriend Body Creme on my shins. This stuff lasts forever and is potent enough that I don’t need to wear anything else that is scented. I’ve been diluting it 1:1 with unscented lotion.
I have a travel spray of that one and it’s too much for me. I imagine the body cream would be just right! Glad all your scented treasures made it safe and sound. And YAY! for internet!
I think the body creme might be a little stronger than the EdP! That’s part of why I have been mixing it with unscented lotion. On the plus side, the socks in my dirty laundry hamper smell GREAT. 🤣
So glad your internet is set up! I have a cute little bottle of Fille de Berlin, too, courtesy of an NST’er. I need to get that one out. It could count for this week…my marzipan recipe has rosewater in it. 🙂
So am I. I have some bills that I usually pay online, plus a bunch of information to update. That’s going to be part of this weekend’s tasks.
Yay for internet and your perfumes being alright!
I should have bought that mini set when it was on sale.
You’ve picked up some wonderful things lately, so no need for FOMO on your part. After all, you did get a bottle of Envy…
I remember Boyfriend! So good!
It was. Too bad the flanker was rather lame.
All set with the ‘net and perfumes!
Those chores will be offset by your beautiful dirty socks-😉.
Happy to see you are wearing perfume again.
💖
Didn’t quite get to applying perfume today, but I was happily sniffing a few things as I unpacked. Not sure I am mentally ready yet. But I know eventually I will be.
Glad you got your internet working. I hope all your bottles survived; it’s like Christmas again opening up your bottles and putting them away. Have fun going through them!
Right now everything is still in the document boxes. They are safely stowed away in a closet away from heat and light. Pretty sure I would have noticed any breakage. Temperatures were not too warm and not too cold when I moved. Given the time of year, that was a major stroke of luck!
Yay for internet and a safe collection! Colorado does get a lot more sunshine in the winter so that should be a nice change.
Boyfriend is so good and I’m glad your socks smell awesome…..that doesn’t happen at my house lol.
I have been loving the “extra” sunshine. That was one big downer about Winter in the mid-Atlantic region; grey, grey, and more grey.
I am so happy that you and Teflon have landed safely! Have you noticed your time zone change yet? Two hours always makes a difference for me when I go visit family living in your new MST time zone. Please no guilt about not recycling – my parents had the same problem in their complex and it *was* so weird to toss cans, bottles, etc. In time, you will probably find a convenient drop off!! Hope all goes well as you get all the bill-paying, shopping, unpacking, and other settlin’ in done! Hugs to you and scritches for Teflon!!
Since I drove out, the time change was much more gradual than if I had flown out. But now I have to take into account the time difference for all the friends back on Eastern Time.
Aha, didn’t read far enough, glad to hear you have landed safely along with kitty and perfumes. Hope you enjoy making a new nest for yourself, I did last year.
It’s been interesting. I am in a part of Colorado I have limited familiarity with. So I am learning where everything is now.
SOTD is Füm Ariose which is the only almond-centric scent I own. It is lovely, and I am wondering why I don’t wear it more often.
I just recently got through paying my property taxes for 2023. I was surprised to realize that they actually went down this year, even though the valuation of our house went up yet again. Several of the individual tax rates went down, but the biggest factor seems to be that the homestead exemption amount increased significantly, so the school tax is being assessed on a much smaller amount. It’s still a bit of a shock to realize that the current tax valuation of our house is almost four times what we paid for it 24 years ago.
I would be ecstatic if my real estate taxes went down! Unfortunately they just keep rising and have more than doubled in the past two decades
Ours have too, so I was really surprised to see them go down. I was wondering if there was some sort of mistake, but apparently not.
I love marzipan but I have never found any perfume that smells like it. Marzipan is bitter almonds primarily but most perfumes that claim to have its note or even bitter almond note are too cloyingly sweet, especially on my vanilla hating skin. I do have one skincare item that smells exactly like marzipan, though: Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil, extracted from plum kernels. They even advertise the fact that it has a natural marzipan scent to it and it is spot on.
I recommend you try Eden Botanicals Bitter Almond Essential Oil which does smell like marzipan. I’ve used it in some of my blends. It’s described as sweet, nutty with cherry nuances and smells of marzipan . The “bitter” in bitter almond is a misnomer…the essential oil is actually quite sweet!
Thanks for the recommendation! I think I might have gotten a sample of it from Eden Botanicals at some point, since I used to buy a lot of their essential oils and absolutes and they always toss in a few samples with purchase, but I didn’t get to sniff it at the time and I don’t know where it is, after a recent house move. I will have to try to dig it up, or get a new sample next time I buy something from them.
I get bitter almond at the opening of Kiss Me Intense. Can’t say it’s marzipany, though. I have Jasmins Marzipan from Lancôme and think you’d likely find it too sweet.
Wore Insolence EDP. It seems almond-y to me though not listed as a note.
