Christian Dior New Look ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 January 2024 9 Comments

Christian Dior has launched New Look, the latest addition to their upscale La Collection Privée Christian Dior fragrance series.

Exemplified by Christian Dior's iconic Bar suit of 1947, the New Look revolutionized fashion with its bold and elegant silhouette. Today, Francis Kurkdjian, Dior Parfums Creative Director, has reinvented this precious legacy as a daring Dior perfume for women and men, born of a bold creative approach that pushes the traditional boundaries of the amber fragrance.

New Look is a universal eau de parfum that opens with the unique and shocking freshness of aldehydes, before revealing the sensuality of frankincense and amber nuances for a lingering and enveloping luxury perfume.

"More than a legacy, more than a silhouette, the New Look is a state of mind, a way of viewing and reinterpreting the world. This powerful mindset has transcended time. True to Christian Dior who wanted Dior perfume to be an olfactory mirror of his couture, I strove to retain this perfect symbiosis between fashion and fragrance with incredible daring. I wanted to create a Dior fragrance that echoes the spirit, nuances and essence of the New Look today." — Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creative Director, Parfums Dior

Christian Dior New Look is available in 125 ($330) or 250 ($450) ml Eau de Parfum (a 40 ml size might be coming as well).

    Wait. What?

So, there’s the “New Look 1947” perfume that was launched back around what, 2010? And now there’s just “New Look” perfume?

Yeah, I don’t see that creating a lot of confusion at all.

    Also: Happy New Year, Robin!

      Happy New Year Joe!

I can only assume New Look 1947 is going to leave the collection, but I already checked this morning and it was still there. For now.

Methinks this is better than Miss Dior and Narciso Rodriguez 🤷🏻‍♀️, name-wise.

New Look 1947 has been discontinued, I guess they are still selling off old stock. This will replace it.

Ahh. Thanks. I liked that one (1947) quite a bit, actually. Pity they’re discontinuing it, but then again I’m not buying any of them!

As Robin noted above, there’s some confusion since both are currently still on the Dior website.

Dior demonstrates endless ingenuity in causing confusion over its fragrance offerings…sigh

Dior as a perfumery house is so lost.

Aldehydes and frankincense sound right up my alley – very much looking forward to this,

    HOWEVER

Would it have killed the marketing team to come up with a new name? Dior has such a rich heritage im sure the could find a few words somewhere other than “new look”. This will annoy tf out of anyone who wears the original new look from the line.

Right up there for when they came up with an entirely new formula for Dior Homme and lunched it under the exact same name and bottle (leaving the rest of us who adore the original furious). At least they had the decency to keep it in production under “Dior Homme Original”. And Sauvage – again, this fragrance is everywhere now but Eau Sauvage (not even remotely similar in terms of scent) has been around for ages.

I’ve read it’s less expensive for a brand to use existing names as they’ve already trademarked one, but when a brand is as profitable as Dior under LVMH, surely money can’t be tight.

    Rant over 😆

I hear you. At least they have not done a modern Diorissimo…YET.

That said, I kind of get why they might think they need fragrances named “Miss Dior” and “New Look”, and are willing to reuse the names when the originals don’t sell to expectation.
