It’s Friday, Sesame Street Day and the World Science Day for Peace and Development. It's also Neil Gaiman's birthday, and that's our Friday theme. Our community project for today: if you read (or watched) Good Omens, maybe scent Aziraphale or Crowley? Or scent some other favorite Gaiman work, or just wear a fragrance that you think fits any fantasy, science fiction or graphic novel or movie/show of your choice (it doesn't have to be by Gaiman).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I remembered yesterday that I already scented Crowley last year, so today I'm doing Aziraphale. Caron Pour un Homme would be perfect but I can't find any, so I'm in Prada Amber Pour Homme, which is close enough for my purposes.
Reminder: 11/17 will be Gratitude Friday…wear a perfume that you feel grateful for coming into your life, that arrived at the right time, helped you face a difficult situation, or simply enriches your day when you wear it. Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Michael Sheen as Aziraphale and David Tennant as Crowley in the television version of Neil Gaiman's Good Omens.
Great shot! We are angel twins today, Robin! 😂
Neil Gaiman’s work: Neverwhere
Character: Angel islington
Scent: Serge Lutens L’Eau Froide
As some of you guys, I had a medical appointment, so I was commando in the morning, apart from a few drops of Incantation aromatic oil in the body lotion, to go with the fantasy theme. There was an air alert during my visit, so the dentist had me sign a form to confirm that I agreed to be treated during the alert.
However, I am back to Gaiman in the afternoon. Initially I planned to wear ‘White Cube’ Narciso for Islington, but after rereading the parts describing it/him/them, I changed my mind. Here are the quotes that inspired me:
The candles were unlit; but as the tall form walked past, they flickered into flame. No hand touched them; no fires touched their wicks.
The figure’s robe was simple, and white; or more than white. A color, or an absence of all colors, so bright as to be startling. Its feet were bare on the cold rock floor of the Great Hall. Its face was pale and wise, and gentle; and, perhaps, a little lonely.
It was very beautiful.
Soon every candle in the Hall was burning. It paused by the rock-pool; knelt beside the water, cupped its hands, lowered them into the clear water, raised them, and drank. The water was cold, but very pure.
—
It had no wings; but still, it was, unmistakably, an angel.
—
It was not a man; it was not a woman.
—
Its eyes were clear and wide. Its robes were not white, as Richard had initially thought: they seemed to have been woven from light.
Richard looked into its eyes. They were a luminescent gray, eyes as old as the universe, eyes that had seen galaxies congeal from stardust ten million, million years ago.
So: so something related to angels or religion, androgynous, cold, bright/shining, white in the sense of absense of colors, gentle but somewhat aloof… L’Eau Froide is essentially a cold incense scent, and I think it ticks most of these boxes. As a bonus, it has a sea/aquatic note, reminding me of Islington’s connection with Atlantis.
And happy birthday, Robin! (Thank you, Holly)
Thank you, and I think you win the cp…so well thought out!
I am sad they have a form for that, but I guess it makes sense. Does it ever get less stressful to be there, Glannys, or is it a constant stress?
As for the form, I think they try to protect themselves legally. As I was explained, I did not have to sign it. The alternative was to have a temporary filling, leave and return later.
I think I am more stressed about the approaching winter. It is hard to predict what will happen to electricity and heating. We are told to create some emergency supplies of food and water.
Gosh, yeah, that would be stressful to think about. I just can’t imagine what it is like to go through this for so long.
You’re welcome, Glannys. Thank you for sharing those quotes – you’ve inspired me to delve into Gaiman’s writing again. 😊
Excellent!
L’Eau Froide is such a lovely scent. I have regretted not getting it after every rebottling. I hope your appointment went well despite the chaos.
Did they reformulate it or was it just a bottle change? My decant is getting low.
It is such a cool and unusual scent!
Just bottle changes as far as I know. It’s in a bell jar now. 🥲
You are so brave! Going to the dentist is enough to make me anxious; I can’t imagine doing so under the threat of an air alert! Thinking of you and sending 🤗 🤗. Loved your SOTD explanation.
Well, I was already in the dentist’s chair when the alert started. Of course, I could request a quick temporary filling and leave (an underground station was nearby, and they are used as shelters during the alerts), but I put off coming to the dentist for months, so I wanted to finish it finally. Now I do not have to come until my next scheduled cleaning.
You inspired me to put a hold on Neverwhere in my library app!
Yay!
Wow. Tornado sirens are bad enough; I can’t even imagine what an air raid alert would be like.
To answer several of you. Air alerts became so common that we are not stressed by them, unless you can hear air defense working (which means the missiles are close). Often air alerts are announced throughout all Ukraine because military airplanes of certain models are in the air in Russia. These airplanes can carry certain missiles that are hard to detect and destroy, so the government warns us just in case. Basically today some military airplanes were flying over Russia (for training I suppose), and it was not a real attack. So I was not brave or heroic or anything like that. There is of course still that air of uncertainty… Thank you all for your kindness.
Happy Birthday, Robin! I hope you will have a lovely day! In celebration of you and your work, I’m wearing vintage Diorissimo which will forever remind me of you and fits any fantasy of spring.
Happy Birthday ROBIN!
Oh you smell just perfect, thank you, glad someone is wearing it today 🙂
Happy birthday, Robin! Thanks for creating this lovely community!
Vintage Diorissimo is gorgeous!
It really is, and I have many wonderful memories associated with it.
I’ve never read any Gaiman, but I did watch the first season of American Gods. Didn’t love it (particularly Laura Moon, who honestly ruined the series for me: she’s the main reason I didn’t bother with season 2), but it had some good characters and moments. Most striking was Ostara, played by the sublime Kristen Chenoweth: I’m thinking of the moment when she manifests all the greenery of spring, and so I’m wearing Mugler Aura, the greenest thing there ever was.
And I can sort of kind of smell it. I tested negative for COVID (finally!) on Wednesday, but I still have some residual symptoms, and my sense of smell is nowhere close to what it used to be — to what it should be. But baby steps, I guess.
Well heck…makes me realize I could have just worn Ostara….
Glad you are negative!
American Gods looked too dark for my own current mood, but I will try it some day. I do like Kristen Chenoweth.
She’s only in the last episode, unfortunately, but she’s magical. And the first season does have a lot of good stuff in it — although it really is very dark.
Yeah, that’s what it sounded like. Good Omens I think has lots of dark undercurrent but the overall mood is really pretty chipper.
Great choice of Ostara, one of my most beloved fragrances! I read the book American Gods; it was good but not among my favorites.
I didn’t enjoy the book but I am still curious of the show, despite your review. Such an interesting premise.
Glad to hear that you’ve finally tested negative.
I got nothing for Gaiman (witness my comment above that I could have worn Ostara if I’d known…). Know of him but don’t know his work. I will say the passage Glannys quoted was quite lovely, so makes me think I should try his work.
In any case I’m a ch…ch…ch..ch..cherry bomb today…. I got a package from Sephora with a TF Cherry Smoke sample, so I sprayed a bit of that and then topped it with fine’ry Not Another Cherry body mist from Target. My nose hasn’t been the same since I had COVID over a year ago, but even I can smell myself wafting cherry through the house.
And happy birthday Robin!
Thank you LizzieB!
Is your smell still improving do you think?
I cannot tell. I can certainly smell Cherry Smoke, so maybe I should be looking at notes to figure out what I can and can’t smell.
Ah, interesting.
Excellent song reference! 🤘🎵🎶
Happy birthday, Robin!
I’m in Bulgari Black today, and there is a Neil Gaiman link. Tori Amos references Neil in “Tear in Your Hand”, and one of the lyrics of that song is “the black of the blackest ocean” — hence Black for today!
Thank you, and excellent pairing!
Haven’t really participated in the cp this week–am in Shalimar MI today.
Robin, Bob and I send birthday wishes~
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frj2CLGldC4
Aw, thank you. Listening now as I type 🙂
Happy Birthday Robin!
Allure tender moisture mist for the SOTD
Cup of chai with coffee added
My sciatica is acting up and I am on my way to one of those hole in the wall massage places. Last night was a tough tough sleep and I made a appt with my PT for next week. It started to bother me after I was so inactive after my surgery. Walking seems to help..also rolling on a tennis ball lol
I find climbing stairs helps mine a lot.
Adding this!
I found sitting on one of those exercise balls helped.
Hope the massage helps your sciatica. I had it once, of all times, when I was pregnant with my son! Apparently, the baby was pressing on something he shouldn’t have. It was hard to walk, and my dog didn’t understand why I could no longer take him for his daily walk. My oby/gyne told me it would go away post-pregnancy, and sure enough it did, immediately after delivery!
Have you considered getting a foam roller to help with your sciatica?
I have one ☝️
Thank you, and hope the massage helped!
Goood afternoon/ good morning NST folk.
For Aziraphale, I am in the thuddingly unsubtle scent By Killian “Straight to Heaven”. An unwanted sample from a friend, and not something of any great interest to me either (way too sweet!).
It is 22degC here (72degF), sunny and windy. I like Malaga Autumn a lot more than Birmingham autumn, other than missing the colour of the turning leaves.
I am currently working half-days with a US client so my day starts at 15:00 CET/ 07:00 MST. It has taken me 2 months of this to recall that this is perfect timing for NST. So here I am, and here you all are. 😉
Have a good Friday – and Robin, a happy birthday – and a great weekend all.
Yay for being here while you are really elsewhere! Malaga sounds like an interesting place to be.
Nice to see you again!
Thank you Koenigsberg, and sorry StH is too sweet!
SOTD is Guerlain Meteorites, which I figure fits with any sci-fi book/play/novel of your choice.
Hiya house twin!
Hello all! And happy birthday Robin!
Thank you all for your well wishes yesterday. This community is so lovely and supportive.
I’m not a huge Neil Gaiman fan, but I do particularly love the Stardust movie that was made. I went with CdG x Stephen Jones for the meteor note in it. I’ll be mulling what Michelle Pfeiffer’s character would wear though. Probably a Lutens.
Have a great day everyone!
I love Stardust too! My SOTD is all about the unicorn in Stardust. I think Michelle Pfeiffer’s character might have worn a Beaufort London fragrance — maybe “Coeur de Noir”, lol.
Great choice!
Love the CdG Stephen Jones, great choice!
Thank you! I’m lucky it fits so well.
Oh, I loved the first season of Good Omens! We haven’t watched any of the second season yet (Mr. G has dragged me into Deadloch instead), but I’m looking forward to it!
Meanwhile, since I’m hopeless at scenting fictional characters, this morning I’m doing a wrist-to-wrist smackdown of two leather samples that have languished for too long. On my left wrist is Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours, and on the right is MDCI Cuir Garamante. I have to say that neither is doing much for me — CV is very nice but too … generic? Or something. Maybe it needs to be sprayed rather than dabbed. And CG is sharp somehow, more like a leather chypre. Actually, I’m not getting leather from it at all. So, $$ saved, and my perfect-leather quest goes on.
Maybe it will be Ruade 😉(see new post above.)
I do love a lot of PdE’s offerings, but Ruade sounds a bit, er, horsey. 😜
Giddy-up!
I liked CV enough but agree that CG doesn’t do much. It’s rather directionless. I think the gold standard for soft leather is Cuir de Russie for me.
I’m going to have to retest Cuir de Russie. It’s been a decade or so since I last tried it, and my tastes have changed significantly in those ten years. Possibly the fragrance has as well!
Oh I hope you enjoy it. It always puts me in a good mood.
Happy Birthday to you Robin! 🎂 Hope you have a spectacular day with your loved ones,.❤️💙💜
I finally got the dogs medicine yesterday, woot woot! They gave me a 3 month supply, so she is set for a while. Did some much needed grocery shopping, got a flu Vax which cost me $37 even after a Good Rx discount for people like me with no insurance. Did a literal truck load of laundry that was ridiculously expensive! So all told between prescriptions, groceries, laundry and gas, there went about $450, although I did get 3 months worth of prescriptions for myself, too. And I bought a bunch of chicken, pork, Italian sausage, so there’s that. Another lady and I were headed out at the same time, and we’re both crying real tears over the price of everything. 😭
Raining today and we are shortly headed to our next abode. Tonight I will make white bean, kale and sausage soup. Perfect for cool rainy days. I’m wearing Anné Pliska today which is a warm cashmere sweater type of scent.
Stay well, y’all!
It’s now snowing!!❄️
Ouch. 🥲
Your soup sounds lovely for a snowy day, at least.
Got in too late to make it, but tomorrow is another day!
Grocery shopping has become a real source of anxiety. I do the self check out now so I don’t get the evil eye from the cashier when I start putting things back.
Glad you were able to get the medicine.
It’s become a real source of anger for me. I really cannot believe that prices have legitimately gone up this high. I think a lot of it is price gauging and it makes me very angry, not necessarily for me but for all the senior citizens, disabled, single moms, young kids trying to make it on their own, and anyone else who has a limited income because of job/no job/cost of healthcare/pre-existing debt and student loans, ad infinitum…😡
I agree that it is price gouging just because they can – greedflation.
Holy smoke! That was an EXPENSIVE day for you and T-Rex.
It was and I hope it’s the last one for a good long while!
Snow! Wow. We saw some in the mountains above the city, but nothing here.
Having something similar to what you’d planned tonight — “pizza beans” according to Smitten Kitchen, but really kale, tomato, veggies and beans with a cheese topping.
Yeah, I spent $110 today, and just meant to pick up veggies for dinner and a couple of staples like juice and paper towels. (I did get a bit sidetracked by their Christmas display — they had the Lebkuchen hearts with apricot filling, which no one had here last year, so I stocked up.) Groceries have gotten insane, not to mention gas here in the Lower Mainland. My boss was visiting from Toronto this week and pointed out their gas is $0.30 a litre lower. Happy carbon tax!
Ugh! Makes no sense at all! At least gas is less here than in the PNW where it’s absolutely ridiculous. Reg is under $3/gallon but that is for 86/87% grade which I think would kill a lot of cars over time. I usually do regular, but here I’m using mid grade, which is still cheaper than regular in the PNW. I don’t know what a Lebkuchen hearts is but I’m glad you stocked up on them because they sound fun and delicious!
So glad you got the meds, sorry about the cost of the day — ouch.
p.s. if it makes you feel better I will tell you what I am paying the tree surgeon to cut down my favorite tree on Monday. I will cry when they cut it down because I love the tree and I will cry again when I write the check.
Oh, that’s a double whammy for sure! 😥
*** FREEBIES ***
All I have left from by most recent freebie post is 15 mL of Cabochard decants. I have already made up a 10 mL and a 5 mL spray vial. To claim either or both, contact me at roses_50 in the land of yahoo. Will ship within CONUS only.
SOTD for CP points is the eau de parfum release of L’Iris de Fath, a fragrance unicorn, with reference to Neil Gaiman’s “Stardust” in which a unicorn features. I got a decant through a kind NSTer during the splitmeet; I was anxious to try that after having “met the unicorn” extrait de parfum a few years ago: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/06/08/meeting-a-unicorn-liris-de-fath/. The eau de parfum does not disappoint!
So glad you love it!
I pretty much failed this cp, wearing Boyfriend today and really enjoying it. Today will be lots of cooking – first pumpkin pie of the year and also chicken enchiladas. Notice I list the dessert first. Life is short. 😉
Happy birthday, Robin and happy upcoming weekend, all.
The kitchen will smell marvelous! Have fun!
I’m making lemon butter chicken, from a recipe on IG (zack.chug). I’ll make lower fat adjustments to the recipe but it looks so mouth watering that I need to try this recipe!
Thanks – and let us know how you like it. My enchiladas recipe is from an old Colorado cookbook from the Junior League of Denver, no less.
I wore Boyfriend the other evening and it smelled so good! I need to wear it more often.
I was thinking the same thing!
You dinner sounds wonderful – and I was eyeing my can of pumpkin just the other day!
It’s definitely pumpkin time! NYT also has a pumpkin bars recipe that looks interesting.
Those enchiladas sound amazing. 😋
I loved it when my Mom would make enchiladas back in the day, but they were always a ton of work. So we never had them very often.
Yes, I’m dedicating my afternoon to cooking. It used to be so hard to get dinner for all 5 of us (DH, me, 3 sons) after work and now I have the time and no kids around! Fortunately, DH likes to eat what I make.
I’ll be over shortly with a bottle of wine😊
Perfect! 🙂
Thank you, and chicken enchiladas followed by pumpkin pie sounds heaven!
We’re having what may be one of our last thoroughly gorgeous fall days before the winter rains set in in earnest next week. The trees and vineyards are at their peak colors, and the first serious storm of the year always knocks down most of the leaves, so I’m soaking up all the beauty while I still can. Wearing Rahat Loukoum because it seems to suit all the saturated colors and warm light so well.
Love all the fall colors and even the weather for the most part. Rahat Loukoum sounds perfect.
❤️ Rahat! Great association with fall’s saturated colors 🍂🍁
Yeah, visiting Torontonians this week asked how we still have leaves on our trees. Answer: It was nice until later in October and now that they’ve changed we just need a crazy storm to knock them all down.
Happy Friday all! SOTD is Iris 39 from Le Labo. I don’t wear it often enough but I do adore it’s iris/patchouli goodness. 🙂
Lovely choice. I need to decide whether to get some whole it’s still available. It still is one of my favorites from Le Labo.
It’s my first Le Labo and it took me months to decide to get it!
I love this one but it took a few tries to ‘get’ it. I love it but one spritz is strong!
Happy birthday Robin and wishing you a good year ahead. Hope you have cake! Despite having to scrape ice off my windscreen yesterday it is spring so Ostara seems a good fit for the day and for Gaiman, as I’m heading out for a walk in the graveyard to sniff the roses.
Your spring seems more cold than your winter!
Wow! That is not my idea of spring! What a positive attitude you have 🙂
We had cake, and whipped cream flavored with cocktail bitters. It was delicious.
Happy birthday Robin! Thank you for all you do to keep this community going. I’m in SDV.
Thanks cazaubon!
Happy birthday Robin!!! 🥳🎂
Sotd is Byredo Bibliotheque, scenting Aziraphale.
Indian summer is here for a few days before a rainy cold week ahead. I just found out that in some East Asian countries Indian Summer is called Autumn/Fall Tiger! Isn’t it adorable? 🐯 🐅
Oh, great idea! I did not even think of going with the bookish theme.
Happy Birthday Robin!
Drew a blank for the CP but I am in CdG Zagorsk today.
I’m going to say Zagorsk counts towards the fantasy part? I always identify Zagorsk with the witches in His Dark Materials.
Thanks Dawn!
I have no points today, I’m wearing Tabu from a fifty cent estate sale bottle. It took some hot water and an old toothbrush to clean up the atomizer, which still drips, but the juice smells great. I’m assuming this is a newer bottle as it doesn’t last past a few hours.
You smell wonderful! I have several vintage bottles of various scents with sprayer issues, but then the juice is oh so worth it!
50 pennies! Excellent!
Stopping in from Day of Grant Applications to say:
Happy Birthday, Robin!
For the CP I went with a very light application of Miller Harris La Fumée, which I dug out of the sample archives (the original original before Harris left and before it became “LF Classic”). For Crowley in Good Omens. Because whiff of smoke.
I hereby award myself 1 pt for London house/London perfumer. And 1 pt for character/theme suitability. 1 pt deducted for “smoke” being a pretty lazy choice :- )
Thanks spiderplant, and good luck with the grant applications!
Happy Birthday, Robin! I hope you will have many loved ones to celebrate with.
I finally hit upon something to wear for the CP today, after getting a few new samples in the mail yesterday: Jorum Sudios Athenaeum. I’ve seen a few posts of his on FB celebrating the wonderfulness of libraries and urging people to support them. Since I’m a big fan of libraries, I like him just for that.
Do you like your SOTD?
I do! There is definitely a whiff of old books, but mostly dusty books on wooden shelves. It’s quirky but very wearable, imo.
And not just dust, but life, too. Here’s a bit of the copy, and not too far from the feeling I got from it.:
“Athenaeum is as comforting as it is solitary. A fragrance crafted for reflection.”
I think the job I enjoyed the most my whole life was my high school job of being a library aide in our small town library. I LOVED it.
Same for me!
Wonderful!
I was my mom’s helper in the library when I was 8-11; she was the children’s librarian and let me check out & shelve books. I miss that.
I loved my library aide job from high school and early college years too. I worked in the children’s room in our main downtown library in a midsize city. It was the best!
Thanks AnnE!
I’m a big fan of Gaiman; I’ve yet to watch Good Omens series but I read the book years ago, along with many others since then. He’s also an interesting and prolific poster, back in the day on Twitter and now on Bluesky. Hard to pick a favorite book of his, but I think American Gods would come close. I did like the TV series a lot, mostly because it was stylish and cast with great actors, Ian McShane and Kristin Chenoweth among them, and I was disappointed that Starz decided not to renew it. I was thinking of wearing something for Odin, possible Slumberhouse Norne, but I tend to wear Norne a lot anyway, so I went for a twist: goddess that is not in the book or TV series, but would make a great addition, so I picked Pallas Athena by Ayala Moriel, a striking, dry, dense scent with champaca, neroli and cinnamon over a base of amber, patchouli and sandalwood. It was one of the first perfumes I got from this house and it remains a perennial favorite.
Oh, I do think he would approve of your choice!
I really like Palas Atena too. I may have used up my last sample though. You smelled great today!
Happy happy birthday, Robin. I hope you have a lovely day ahead of you.
Thanks to Kanuka for reminding me about Gaiman’s house in Skye yesterday, it’s interesting looking back at some of those Covid lockdown news stories. And to tie it into my SOTD, I’m in Trimerous, which is made in Scotland.
Love it 😍
Thanks tulipani!
Happy Birthday Robin and thanks for all you do on this site.
SOTD is Black Orchid. Today it doesn’t seem to be wearing me, so I guess I just sprayed too much the last time I wore it.
Yay for your perfume behaving itself today!
I know, right? You never know. It was also really chilly today so that probably helped.
Thanks Kris!
Sometimes Black Orchid wears me too, but I think it’s been eons since I wore it.
Best wishes on your birthday, Robin.
I got the double vaccination this afternoon and I’m now resting, I chose Calandre, a futuristic rose for the Julie Christie character of the wife, she played a double role in that excellent film version by François Truffaut. This evening it’s JP Heritage l’Heure Attendue, my favorite of the line.
Hope the side effects from your double vax are mild.
Thank you Jalapeno, just a sore arm so far.
Thanks Aurora! Hope you are better tomorrow.
Thank you Robin, my arm is still sore but no other symptom.
Happy Birthday, Robin! I hope it is a good day for you.
I am scenting Beverley, the London river goddess from Ben Aaronovich’s The Rivers of London series. Beverley is married to Peter Grant, detective and apprentice wizard, who solves crimes involving supernatural elements. Naturally, being a river goddess, Beverley is concerned about pollution and ecology so I chose La Danza Delle Libellule, for the mental picture of dragonflies buzzing over her waters.
La Danza Delle Libellule is a favorite of mine. I also love saying the name
Thanks foxbins!
Happy birthday Robin!
Spring is a very up and down season, but by mid-November, I’d prefer a bit less of the down – it really has been winter temperatures of late for both Kanuka and me. At least I have sunshine today.
I’m wearing Paestum Rose, another quite dark rose that suits the general feel of The Sandman that we watched a while back.
You smell wonderful. I love Paestum Rose and am guarding it jealously these days.
Thanks Gaynor, and you smell great today!
Happy Birthday Robin.
I am wearing FM Lipstick Rose. Staying at home doing laundry and arranging clothes etc.
Joining you on the Laundry!
Laundry day here too!🧺
Joining you in laundry duty.
Laundry will be on tomorrow’s task list for me.
Love Lipstick Rose!🌹
I catalogued my sample of Lipstick Rose during a long meeting today, and was reminded that I have it. Love Lipstick Rose — you smell fabulous!
Thanks Hera!
Happy Birthday, Robin!
I’m wearing Shalimar MI. Trying a new recipe (to me) for drip beef meatballs. Instead of putting them on a sandwich as suggested, I’ll make rice. Meatballs are already cooked the in the oven to brown them; now have to make the sauce and put them in the crockpot to get all yummy!
My mouth is watering with your cooking, and it’s high time I made some meatballs again. Also, I too have been really enjoying Shalimar MI. I’m now able to compare it with Tonka and MVP. I will do that soon.
Ooh, interested to hear about the comparisons! I’ve never tried the Tonka or MVP so I’ll live vicariously through you.
Me too. I don’t know what the other two are like.
I’ve never heard of drip beef meatballs!
I hadn’t either. It’s from The Pioneer Woman on the Food Network. It’s kind of a mashup between meatballs and a beef dip.
We make beef dip often, so it seemed like a great recipe to try.
Thanks Gail, and save me some meatballs 🙂
Happy birthday, Robin! 🎂
I had my perfume for today picked out at the beginning of the week and went the easy, obvious route of Ostara for the character in American Gods. I don’t usually wear this in the fall, but it’s hitting the spot today.
The last couple days I wore beautiful, comforting, and rich perfumes. Yesterday my Byredo Seven Veils got a comment from my partner that it “smells like Lucky Charms in here.” 🤔 But actually, after he said it, I could kinda see where he’s coming from. And Wednesday’s SOTD was Ariose by Fūm, which gets my vote for most underrated perfume. I think it’s SO good, a sophisticated gourmand. It’s got a beautiful almond note but doesn’t smell like a basic almond perfume.
Lots of people here at NST have been wearing comfort perfumes lately.
Life and world politics are getting to people I think.
Yeah, it seemed like a good time to wear a couple real beauties that also happen to be a bit soothing.
Seven Veils smells carrotty on me, need to try again and look for the Lucky Charms, which I’d prefer. 🙂
Hehe hope you get some Lucky Charms next time you smell it. I get the carrot note too
Thanks therabbitsflower! Lucky charms cracked me up!
Hope it was a good day! And, I was pretty amused when he said that!
Happy Birthday, Robin! Wishing you the best today and always! 🎂
Wearing Atelier Cologne Iris Rebelle for my iris week.
Busy today running errands and doing laundry. Looking forward to a quiet evening having pizza and watching a couple of Christmas movies.
Happy Friday! 🌻
I had pizza for lunch!🍕Have a nice evening.
Thank you, pizza twin! 🍕😀
You smell wonderful – I kept sniffing this and that from Atelier, and all of a sudden, I realized it was one of my top ten houses! Silver Iris, Cafe Tuberosa and Oud Saphir are the top three. What a cheerful evening you’ve planned. We always do pizza on Saturday night, and this week, we’ll be watching The Honeymooners courtesy of our public library’s DVD collection.
Thank you, MossyBerry!
Atelier Cologne has wonderful scents. However, I don’t see the brand mentioned here that often anymore. My favorites are Silver Iris, Iris Rebelle, Orange Sanguine, and Mistral Patchouli.
Enjoy the Honeymooners. It was such a great tv show! I may watch some of the episodes on YouTube soon.
Enjoy your quiet evening! You’ve more than earned it.
Thank you, Jalapeno! It is going to be so cold that I am planning to stay home and relax.
Thanks pl67! Enjoy the Xmas movies.
Wearing Bvlgari Black today for Death of the Endless.
Perfect!
Happy Birthday, Robin 🥳! Wishing all the best life can bring you in the coming year and thanking you for providing this lovely community.🙏
I’ve only read one Neil Gaiman for a book discussion group but otherwise I’m not much of a fan of these genres, so for my SOTD I chose a fragrance that applies in general to the cp: Brittney Spears’ Hidden Fantasy, a soft creamy orange vanilla scent. But the reason I chose this scent directly relates to the fantasy/sci-fi world 👀.
In an attempt to wear more of my fragrances more often, I choose my fragrances for the month ahead and arrange them on a lovely mirrored tray, a gift from my mom for my wedding decades ago. She was a perfume lover and I think of her each day as I reach for that day’s scent. Towards the end of October, as I reached for that day’s fragrance, I noticed Hidden Fantasy on my tray. Surprise! I had not noticed it there before despite coming to the tray each day that month and didn’t remember putting it there (I usually wear it in the winter months’). How did it get there? I don’t know. Did my mom want to participate in this community project? I don’t know . . . But perhaps it was just a special moment from the fantasy/sci-fi world!
Looking forward to a fun event tomorrow, Girls Nite Out with my D-I-L, a combined candle-making (I get to choose the fragrance and name it) and floral-arranging, all with a Victorian theme and with a Victorian tea in between, with The Scent Queens and The Floriography Fellows. It promises to be a blast, especially since I get to spend quality time with this special family member, something we never get to do.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend ahead.
Enjoy your Girls Nite Out! Sounds fun.
That is so cool – love the story behind your choice of fragrance today!
What a great story about your mom. 🙂 Have fun!
Thanks Laila!
Love the story behind your pick, and do have a blast tomorrow.
No CP points for me – I will admit I had no idea who NG is! Will follow up to see what I’m missing! Happy Birthday, Robin! SotD Encre Noir from a generous NST’er quite a while ago. It smells very classy, but leans a bit too far to the masculine side for me. I know better than to make any final judgement – one day, it may seem just right!
I didn’t either, although I had heard of Good Omens.
If something is too masculine for me, it usually stays that way on subsequent wearings.
Thanks MossyBerry, and I think you smell great!
I’m a fail for the cp since I’m not familiar with Gaiman’s work, and I tried to watch Good Omens but just could not get into it.
Instead I’ve been inspired by apsara to dig out my Victoria Beckham samples that came a couple of weeks ago.
Today I’m in Suite 302 which I would describe as a perfume’s perfume. You know the kind. It is very pretty but not $200 for 50 mls pretty. At least not for me. When I put it on this morning it was reminding me of Dear Polly which I’d worn earlier in the week even though they don’t have exactly the same notes. I was checking their notes on fragrantica and discovered that of course! They share the same perfumer: Jerome Epinette. They definitely have the same dna, at least to my nose. I’ll test the other 2 this weekend.
Happy Birthday Robin!🎉
Never watched or read Good Omens either.
Thanks madtowngirl!
Not participating in the CP as I’m not familiar with the theme this week. I’ve been wearing Chance eau Tendre all week in hopes of thunking the bottle soon.
If one of the other Marzipans gets hold of that bottle, it counts as a thunk! 😉
Happy Birthday Robin! Wishing you all the best for the upcoming year and beyond. Thank you for being here for us.
I’m wearing Angel for the fifth day in a row. I bought a small bottle last year after resisting it for so long (seems like it was everywhere for a while) and, lo and behold, I really like it.
Wishing all of you a great weekend!
You smell wonderful! I too was late to realize how much I enjoyed Angel. I’ll just mention that Ebay still seems to have partial stars of older formulas popping up for modest prices in case anyone else wants to get on board that train! 😀
Thank you MB! Good to know about the older formulas. I assume mine is a newer formulation and have no idea how it compares but you’ve given me food for thought. 😊
Angel is an excellent pick for this CP!
I’m glad to have been compliant with the CP, even though unknowingly so. 😊
I’m not at all familiar with NG’s work.
Thanks adanst!
Sampling Lorga Ambre Platine today. Quite enjoyable so far.
Happy birthday, Robin! 🙂
Thanks She-ra!
Happy Birthday Robin! I hope you have a marvelous day today!
Thanks SmokeyToes! It was a good day.
Wearing Chabaud Caprice de Sophie. Reminds me of an apple-forward version of Chanel Chance eau Fraiche. I like it, but it is not long lasting or particularly strong. Which works well for today when i feel a little gross and just want something easy and light. 🙂
Sorry you feel gross nebbe…hope you are not sick.
Happy Scented Birthday Robin! I hope this revolution around our Daystar brings you some peace of mind. 🍾🎂
I was having fun with produce earlier today. Roasted some Delicata squash for the first time, then stuffed them with ground turkey seasoned up taco-style. Quite tasty!
SOTD = Mitsouko EdP, from the Sample Stash. I *think* this is vintage, but am not sure. The label doesn’t say. I chose it for both the light and dark aspects it has. Bonus points for it being a “proper” chypre. Therefore, it could scent either Crowley or Aziraphale.
Today I am finally feeling the melancholy some people have mentioned Mitsouko possesses. I’d never before experienced it before.
Yum. I just bought some Delicata squash. thanks for the cooking idea!
You’re welcome!
Your stuffed squash sounds great! I will borrow that idea.
Please do! A tip: roast the squash cut side down for 25 – 30 minutes. It traps a bit of steam and helps them cook all the way thru. Then you can flip them cut side up, stuff them, and finish cooking.
You have me wanting to retest Mitsouko now. It has always left me a little cold.
The sample I used today has always been gorgeous to my nose. Definitely getting a peach note at the beginning along with all the chypre-y goodness.
Some other samples I have tried in the past have a gasoline note. Others don’t have an obvious peach presence.
Thanks Jalapeno.
I love roasted squash and almost never make it…I should go get a butternut this weekend.
Yay for home cooking and you smell marvelous.
Happy Birthday Robin 🧁 🎂 🍰
Idk anything about Gaiman, I gotta admit lol and I am not huge into Sci-Fi..I liked a flick recently called Sunshine with Cillian Murphy..so..I shall wear Paris-Riviera as it is sunny lolol
That’s perfect, and thanks!
Happy birthday Robin!
SOTD = Dior Feve Delicieuse
🤎🤎🤎 I decided to wear something naughty happy instead of just naughty so here we are!

Poll worker observations:
1. Some people want to have their cake and eat it too! We had several entitled people who asked why they cannot have both a mail-in ballot AND be able to vote in person. They can; here’s the however part: technically, if I wanted to vote in person (even though I mailed in my ballot), I can; however, in order to avoid counting 2 votes for the same person , the in-person vote has to be provisional. As much as we’d like to trust the person in front of us, there are people who want to try to get away with doing something they shouldn’t be doing!
2. I was very happy to see a parent or a couple bringing their children. It’s good to model civic-minded behavior!
3. I was very sad to note that were I to be assigned to the same polling place, some of the people I saw are unlikely to be able to vote in-person because their bodies are already failing them this year. Kudos to them!
4. Petty – when a couple comes in, I noted that half the time the woman looks at least 5 years older than the man. Why is this? 🤔
5. How PC or non-PC would it be for me to thank someone for their service? The profile panel I can see shows their military service. It makes me wonder why it shows up as it has nothing to do with voting. 🤷🏻♀️
You smell great!
I can’t believe people would think they could vote twice – why?
As for the woman looking five years older, wasn’t there a study many years back that said marriage shortens women’s lives and lengthens men’s? I can certainly believe it.
Weird about the military service, I think it would be more PC to say nothing. I’m weirded out when people know more information about me than expected.
I am with you!
I usually thank military personnel for their service. I also thank first responders and snow plow drivers ( lol) but if I think I am not supposed to know what they do, it might be uncomfortable. Idk…
Also.. you smell awesome!
Thanks! I will look for obvious signs before I say anything. I did not say anything at all on Tuesday.
I figure if it is obvious that someone is military or ex-military, thanking them for their service would be appreciated. Ex-mil being someone wearing a cap or hat showing some kind of affiliation.
If it isn’t obvious, then it heads over into “creepy” territory. My $0.02 worth.
Agreed! Creepy is right because there’s absolutely no reason why military service info should be included in voting rolls.
Thanks hajusuuri!
Blows my mind that someone would send in a mail ballot and then show up to vote.
You would be surprised. Most people just said I didn’t know what I did with it!
I’m working tonight and feel like crap. Thank goodness I have tomorrow off. I made up with Miss Bossy Pants because I just can’t take conflict.
I am wearing Angel Muse for the cp even though I don’t know if it fits. The bottle is supposed to be some kind of space pebble.
Happy Happy Birthday Robin!🥳
Sorry to hear that you feel like crap.
And while I am thinking of it, here’s the recipe for Campfire Casserole:
1 lb ground meat
1 15-oz can of corn
1 15-oz can of black eyed peas
1 8-oz bag of shredded cheddar cheese
1 envelope dry taco seasoning mix
Brown the meat. Open the cans of corn and black eyed peas. Drain off the liquid from the cans. Add the corn and black eyed peas to the browned meat. Add the taco seasoning and mix well. Finally, add the shredded cheese and mix until the cheese melts and binds all the other ingredients together.
Eat!
Thanks! My kids really liked it when I made it before. I will write it down.
Oh, I missed the Bossy Pants saga! I’m like you and avoid conflict if I can. It makes me very uncomfortable, but if I see someone else is being short changed in some way, I can get fired up. Once worked with this nurse who straight up lied trying to get another nurse in trouble. Why? Because she was jealous of this girls looks, family, happiness, and joie de vivre, I’m sure. Later in the day, I found her looking for something in the stock room and gave her a piece of my mind about her 💩 stirring ways. She put me right to the top of her “I’m gonna get this biotch fired” list! I did not pass go, I did not collect $100, and I quit way before she had a chance to get me fired. 🤣
Thanks lillyjo!
Wish Miss Bossypants would go work someplace else.
Hopefully I’m not too late to the birthday party and a chance to say Happy Birthday, Robin! I hope you are celebrating and being celebrated today. You are such a gift to us all 💐💐💐
I’m in a dab of vintage Diorissimo for the occasion, from my mother’s pebble bottle.
I just read lillyjo’s post and am thinking I somehow miraculously earned a cp point with the “pebble” bottle😊I obviously know nothing about NG😬
Pebble twins!
I don’t know anything about NG either.
Thanks allo, and thanks for wearing Diorrissimo 🙂
😘
Sorry about the bad day, hope today is better, you smell wonderfu.
