Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Teachers’ Day! (And if you're in the UK, happy National Poetry Day!) What fragrance are you wearing?
My silly excuse for wearing Maison Francis Kurkdjian Petit Matin: Kurkdjian also did Burberry Her, and just look at that Burberry hat!
Reminder: 10/6 is Mad Hatter day. Wear your silliest perfume, or come up with a silly excuse to wear whatever perfume you wanted to wear anyway.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Black & Orange Trapper Hat from Burberry ("Insulated nylon taffeta hat in black and orange. Faux-fur trim throughout") is $1350 at SSENSE.
Hello!
Sotd is Gucci The Voice Of The Snake. A clean oud sprinkled with saffron. Not fecal or nasty-animalic but still pretty powerful stuff. I really like oud so I am enjoying this a lot. I bought this blind and I’d call it a success. 🙂
I had to laugh at today’s picture, the model looks like she has a Chow Chow on her head!
Me too. The hat combined with her facial expression gave me a good laugh.
Yeah actually had to lol!
Reminds me of the old Stephen Colbert routine–“What do all the ruthless dictators of history have in common? A BIG FURRY HAT!”
Lol!
Ha, forgot that!
I don’t like oud and even I like that scent. The oud is very mild to me.
👍 I have a bottle as well!
Ha! Haha, as I was scrolling down and caught a glimpse of that picture I had to laugh. I’m sorry, but who wears this stuff?!! And especially at that price!🤯
Thanks Robin.😂
Anyway, I’m in Gypsy Water. Today is my Friday and I’m currently sitting by an east face window with the sun shining in. Love it. Today is the last of our summer like weather and tomorrow we will drop 20 degrees.
Forgive me Donatella for I have sinned. I broke my no buy and ordered the Victoria Beckham sampler set this morning after seeing it in an email. It was $30 and the price can be applied to a full bottle. I highly doubt I will get one at those prices, but wanted to pass along the info. Not to enable or anything.😉
Our weather will go off the cliff Saturday. Enjoying today & tomorrow in shorts for the last time this year.
Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about that sample set!
Day four of tea scents and I’m wearing Thé Yulong by Armani. One of my favorite tea scents.
A week of tea sounds lovely.
Day four of my vintage week and I am wearing some vintage no. 5 extrait. No. 5 and I go back a long way, over 50 years, being one of the very first perfumes (along with Arpege) that I remember from my mother’s dressing table. It was one of the first “grown up” perfumes I bought when I was a teen, and I have thunked a number of bottles over the years. It is not a silly perfume by any means, nor do I have a silly reason for wearing it, and I don’t think “no. 5” is a particularly silly name, but I am wearing it anyway.
It is the opposite of silly, probably.
It’s already a DAY so thank you for the silly picture, Robin!
The electric light pole behind our house fell down yesterday because the wood was rotted at the base. (My husband reported it 3 yrs ago, the power company came out and said yeah, you need a new pole and we never saw them again.)The power was out until late last night and it also snapped the cable for the internet connection, so I spent the morning with our company’s phone bank from across the world where they had to run an internet test to the house – hello, without the cable there’s obviously no service at all! Why can’t you ever talk to someone local? This could have been completed in five minutes, instead it took longer than a very frustrating hour, with a disconnect in the middle of the call. And my mom took both her day and night meds all at once for the 2nd time in a week. 🤦♀️
I promise, rant over.
So, I thought I would wear calming incense today but I need a distraction, so Angel it is. Time for the big guns.
I am very frustrated with the phone auto-bots, that is, if you can find the number to call. I usually have a better experience when I choose the option for fraud, cancelling or for someone with a disability even though I am NOT calling for those reasons.
Wow! Time for a cup of tea and a lie down.
I absolutely HATE having to call about any sort of service issue (electricity, phone, internet, etc.) precisely because it always takes longer than it should and I always have to deal with someone who doesn’t seem to believe that a problem exists. Yes, I checked the breakers. Yes, ALL the power is out. Yes, I am sure it is out. The whole neighborhood is dark. No, please don’t suggest I go online to “www.wedontgiveadarnaboutourcustomers” to report the internet outage. If I could get online to your website, I would have no reason to do so. Yes, I have tried powering the computer off and and and powering the modem and router off and on–several times, in fact–but OK, I will try it one more time if that will convince you to check things on your end.
ARGH! What a load of suck!
I hope that you were able to do something nice for yourself after all that.
A dear friend whose schedule is very different than mine sent me a text, could she come over for an hour. We had the emotional equivalent to a photo dump. It was cathartic.
Oh my goodness. So sorry, that calls for more than a funny hat picture.
Cruel Gardenia
Hope it was a good day ltsg.
Wearing Amouage Memoir Woman today. this one is such an October scent for me because of the wormwood, it smells a little witchy.
As soon as the temperature drops Saturday, I am pulling this one out!
Oo, haven’t smelled this, but do love me a witchy vibe, and bitter notes…
The subtlety of that hat is spot on. 😉
We’re a couple miles north of Santa Fe today. We have a couple of days for running around and getting chores/mail done then heading for a two week stint at a state park that has an extensive trail system without a lot of elevation change, so perfect for biking. Really looking forward to that! 🚲
It was wonderfully cool last night with a forecasted high today of 70*F. Perfect! Lots of bright sunshine to boot. I finally feel like I’m getting some energy back, sleeping well at night, and waking up anticipating the day. As Lizzo says, “About dam* time!”
https://youtu.be/IXXxciRUMzE?si=FNEpF_mlNy9o5u-k
SOTD is Kalemat by Arabian Oud. There is nothing silly about this perfume, so I guess I’m not CP complaint (again!). If I smelled like this 100% of the time for the rest of my life, I’d be quite happy about it.
Happy almost Friday day!
I got my bottle back when the only reasonable way was to order via Amazon. In any case, the silly thing about that order was the packaging was opulent and the free gifts (2 FBs of some other perfume) were over the top.
I can’t remember where I ordered mine from, but I DO know I was hooked after you sent me a decant, so another enabler pin to add to you massive, legendary collection. 😂
Nice. So glad you are safely there.
We haven’t travelled in four years, and we’re supposed to fly to Paris via Toronto on Saturday evening, but what do you suppose is coming our way? Only a stupid tropical storm (with an ironically French name), that’s all. We spent most of the morning online and on the phone trying to figure out what to do, and Air France will let us change our flights to a different day, but it will cost us $7000 to do so, which is mad. (*And* we’d have to downgrade from premium economy to regular old economy. For that much money!) And we can’t jettison the first flight and fly up a day early, because there’s a punishment fee for that, also in the thousands of dollars. All we can do is show up at the airport on Saturday evening and hope for the best. At least if the flight to TO is cancelled because of the weather, Air France will somehow get us where we’re going, even if it’s a day or two late. Better that than paying fees we can’t possibly afford.
Anyway, I’m in ELdO Nombril Immense, which is not especially calming, but sometimes you just feel like wearing a big fat patchouli scent, I think.
$7000?! That is absolutely astounding! I think I’d fly through the eye of a hurricane before paying that!
Those change fees are insane! I too would just show up on time for my flight (unless the flight gets cancelled first) and just assume I may be stuck there a while.
$7,000 is outrageous! That’s the cost of an entire vacation!
Insanity. I wish you good luck!
Fou!!!
They asked us 3000$ to change our return flight from Armenia even though we paid extra when we bought our tickets to get exchangeable ones. Unbelievable!!
ZOMG! Those change fees are bleeping crazy! I’d do the same thing that you are planning to.
Very good luck! Fingers crossed they cancel before you have to go to the airport.
That is one hella hat! My silly choice for this morning is Fox in the Flowerbed, in part for the happy-silly little leap the fox is doing on the label, and in part for the mention of tulip in the notes, which always makes me think of tiptoeing through them. Silly.
A covert Tiny Tim reference for the win!
Great choice!
Now I am more than a little irritated at USPS. My little vintage bottle that I ordered on 09/26, was shipped on 09/28, arrived at the North Houston Distribution Center on 09/30, and then spent four days “In transit to the next facility”, has apparently now been sent back to California whence it came. Meanwhile, every single thing that I have ordered that was sent via Fedex or UPS has been delivered in a timely manner without issue.
The postal service has been the worst lately. So slow.
It seems to be specifically that North Houston facility. Another order that was sent by UPS Surepost shows being out for delivery today, but it was transferred from UPS to USPS at a local PO 10 miles away, not at the Houston facility.
I’m in blind-buy vintage Estee Lauder Private Collection, which is only silly because of the blind buy. Gorgeous stuff, and I just knew I would love it. So not silly at all, really. No points 😉
You smell wonderful!
That is such a good one.
I’m in The 2nd Cumming today, and claiming mad CP points. 😀
Yes! all the points.
My PSA of the day: Saks Fifth Avenue online is having 15% beauty including many perfume and candle brands, including MFK, with code BTY15.
Nice, thanks Tea Thyme.
Scent: Lucy B Pink Frangipani. It might not be entirely silly, but it’s certainly not serious stuff. I have the rollerball, and why I haven’t splurged on a spray is a mystery. (Ok, maybe it’s not a mystery – I get stuck between multiple things I’m interested in and nothing gets purchased.)
The silliest thing I have is probably Moschino I Love Love. I wasn’t quite feeling it this morning, but there’s plenty of time to pull it out.
I’m waiting for the rain to clear out with hopes of seeing some sunshine later this afternoon.
I was wondering if I could find my sample of Moschino Fresh Couture…but not sure it’s worth the trouble.
Shalimar: Mission Impossible today. 😍
I tried Tobacco Honey yesterday but it did not rock my world. Full disclosure, I am not into oud but the oud is in the background here. To me it’s in the vein of Oud Bouquet…not a dupe but a variation on a theme. It’s much more about the honey than the tobacco and could have been called Honey Tobacco but that name has been used by 3 different houses already according to Fragrantica. 😉 That said, I did enjoy it but wasn’t wowed by the first wearing. A well done, sweet amber w/ an oud base but not that different from other deer in that herd. 🦌
Scent twins. I am in this for the second day in a row and have worn it several times since I received it. I ended up ordering a BUB the other day as this Shalimar really seems to work for me.
Shalimar MI is beautiful. 🙂 I bought a BUB as well. Great minds think alike. 😉
I liked Tobacco Honey-I like the silage and got some longevity. Cruel Gardenia on the other hand-I can’t smell it and sprayed so much from my sample…
I always somehow misspell Tobacco Honey as Tobacco Hiney and there’s no autocorrect 🤣. I do like it a lot but will give my bottle time to mature …
Last day of perfect “summer” weather here. Warm, breezy, sunny, no clouds in the sky.
Wearing the bright and happy Perris Montecarlo Mimosa Tanneron to match the day! Love it! 💕
Happy Thursday! 🌞
Happy Thursday to you too! We get one more nice day tomorrow, then the party’s over.
Thank you, Cazaubon! Rain and more rain expected here tomorrow and until Sunday morning with temperatures going down to the 50s. (sigh)
Happy Thursday to you, PL67!
I’m anticipating the same drop in temps this weekend as you are. Maybe I should dig out some of my heavy wool socks? 🧦
Thank you, Jalapeno!
I am digging out all my winter clothes this weekend. 50-degree temperatures are already pretty cold for me.
It should never be colder than 50 degrees imo.
Never colder than 70 for me! 😀
Wearing Ambre Kandajar and waiting for a friend to show up. We are going to organize my perfumes. It really needs to be done as everything is in a jumble since the move and I finally got up the will to do it.
That sounds so fun to me. Have a great time organizing!
“Ambre Kandajar” sounds like a wonderful name for a perfume.
Ha – this is making me wonder if I trust any of my friends enough to reveal the extent of my fragrance collection to them…
Hope it was a fun time!
It was a big job, only half done!
That hat cracked me up. And it’s all fake!
I’m wearing Musc Tonkin today. Not silly, but nice on a cool day.
You smell fab.
I’m in Drole de Rose because “drole” is close to silly😊
I was planning to do an ELdO week but I never give myself enough time in the morning to properly choose a fragrance and am at the mercy of my office decants.
cazaubon’s post reminded me how happy I am to have my fragrance collection back at home after being in storage all summer (to avoid heat). We put up new shelving and it’s so fun to spend time in the perfume fort looking at bottles, sniffing this and that, decorating here and there😊
When did your shelving project get finished?
Over the past 2 weekends. There have been a few mishaps but no broken bottles so far😬
Yay you have your perfumes back!
Whenever I have to work early in the morning I try to pick something at night and leave it by my purse.
That’s a great idea!
My organization project took longer than I expected, only half done! LOL. Hopefully yours was more relaxing.
It is until I can’t decide where I want to put certain bottles. I’ve accepted that it’s a work in progress and that’s part of the fun😊
Are your fragrances on shelves? Enclosed? I do worry about earth quakes and am trying to devise a “ledge” of some sort. I will say that my past self never envisioned my current self being so concerned with such things😂
Yes, pull-out shelves, very sturdy.
Oh, Drole de Rose is perfect!
Bucoliques de Provence, which actually doesn’t smell much like the Provence as I know it.
Today’s hat is properly silly, even Graham Chapman would have been pleased!
Ha, ha yes, re: hat. But it also made me think of Verushka. As in, she would have made it look glam.
Hello hello! I’ve been back from Los Angeles a couple of days now, and finally out from under the laundry. Had a lovely time seeing the girl child, hiking, shopping and beaching. I’m in Hermes Voyage today.
***😊If anyone is interested, I’m swapping my bottle of PG Tonka Bodykon. Give me a shout!
https://nstperfume.com/tag/swapping/
Welcome back! Glad you had a good visit!
Thanks, lillyjo! 🤗
Welcome back!
Thank you, cazaubon!
Welcome back!
Thanks, Jalapeno!
Second day of Diptyque’s L’Eau Trois for me, thanks to a generous decant from a lovely NSTer in the Swapmeet. (Thank you!) This has been on my ‘to try’ list for a long time, and worth the wait. What an amazing incense herbal bomb, feels ancient and mystical, just as everyone has said. I’ve read different things about whether it’s d/c or still available. I also wonder how/if it’s changed since 1975 when it came out. It’s quite warm in Los Angeles, so the incense is blooming beautifully.
It’s still on the Diptyque website!
For the CP, Insolence. It’s one of my top ten favorites, but I think the name is very silly. Shout out to French speakers: I got an idea somewhere that “insolence” in French does not have the same, and the negative, connotation that it does in English, right? A very welcome rain arrived, though it’s delayed finishing the painting project. I’m catching up on indoor things today, including getting my Swapmeet items ready and in the mail tomorrow. Off to climb the laundry mountain for now.
Oh, excellent pick.
Well, my no. 5 from this morning has faded out, and my Phlur travel sprays arrived courtesy of UPS and our local post office (thankfully, the north Houston facility had no involvement with this one) so I now have Sandara on one hand and Hanami on the other. These were the two that were not in the sample set, and both of these seem to be nice, quiet scents. So far, I think I prefer Hanami. It lists hazelnut among the notes, and I do get a warm, nutty note in it, although I do not think I could have identified it as hazelnut specifically. Both of them, as well as Ameline, are marked down to half price ($48 for a 50 mL bottle and $13 for a 9.5 mL travel spray), which I suspect is an indication that they are being discontinued, so if anyone was considering one of them, maybe don’t wait too long.
I like the idea of the 9.5 ml travel spray…wish everybody would do it.
If I were to write a caption for the expression on that model’s face, I would be sorely tempted to say “Yay, verily yay.” No exclamation point. The hat is absolutely insane! Wonder how much it weighs?
Kind of yucky with the muggies outside today. I am giving it a pass, since the warm temps are getting ready to vamoose for the rest of the year.
SOTD = again commando, except for Dame Perfumery Orange Blossom soliflore body butter on my shins. Figured I’d try this one out today.
Not so bad here but it’s probably because I waited until 5pm to start my walk!
Still muggy here when I went to throw out a pizza box this evening.
I much prefer the muggies to wind chill. It was pretty breezy here today, but not cold.
Same here. Tomorrow is the last warm day.
Temps in the 70’s here tomorrow, but it may get a little wet. The weekend is supposed to be chilly.
Continuing on in the “mad” vein for the Mad Hatter, today I’m wearing L’eau à la folie.
Excellent!
SOTD = American Perfumer Call Me by Diane St. Clair
Holy aldehydes plus musky floral! It’s my first time wearing this limited edition perfume. As with many (most) of her scents, I don’t get any more than what I can smell even though there’s way more in the juice! It has a classic smell and I do love it!

In other news, my niece’s surgery went well, according to my sister. It took almost 2 hours and she will be in the hospital anywhere from 2-5 days. I hope she gets to stay on the longer end not because she needs it but because it will be safer for her due to her blood disorder. Thanks for your well wishes.
I’m glad the surgery went well. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Wishing her a speedy and complete recovery!
Very pleased to hear that your niece came thru her procedure OK! Hoping that she has a quick and uneventful recovery.
Oh good, thanks for the update.
Glad to hear all went well with the surgery
I’ve had many errands today plus the furnace guy came. He said he thinks it should get me through the winter. Lol fingers crossed! The weather guy reminded me that last year we saw snow on Oct 17th!
I wore Prada Candy Night today. Not very silly for this blustery day.
Crossed fingers and fie on snow in October! (even though it happens every year somewhere in Canada – just hopefully not Montreal).
Good to hear that the furnace guys showed up and had some decent news for you.
In a test spray of AA Granada Salvia from the duty free shop today. I chose it because my trip was to Grenada (event tho Granada and Grenada are not related).
No tea today 🙁
