It’s Hump Day, National Pepperoni Pizza Day and Sophia Loren's birthday. The swapmeet is coming up on Saturday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès L'Ambre des Merveilles layered with Eau Claire des Merveilles. (Perfumelover67 wore L'Ambre yesterday and reminded me that it's a great transitional fragrance.)
Reminder: 9/22 is the day before the Autumn Equinox (in the northern hemisphere, at least). Wear a fragrance that says adiós to summer, or hello to fall, or wear your favorite transitional fragrance. (If you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is Zara Leather Jardin. I love it so much I am wearing it again. (I actually wore it last night as well.)
There is this cutest Common House Gecko in my room. I have seen it lurking and scuttling about for a few days already; poor thing must be so scared. I don’t know how to help it out of my house as I am sure it will probably die of starvation if it stays here… 😭
I need to get downtown to try this!
Best wishes with the gecko rescue!
Since they don’t bite, I suggest getting a small box or jar and slooowly approaching it while slowly positioning it between you and the jar. It may just run into the container. Since they don’t bite, cover the opening with your hand, and take it out your previously opened door. I’d personally also try just catching it in my cupped hand. I’ve caught many lizards in my day. Gently, gently…maybe you could chase it out a door or window? Hope it works out!
Thank you for the tip! I will try it!
Wearing Ormonde Woman today in hopes that it will make me feel like fall.
I usually travel through Portland, Oregon twice a year to see my mother who lives further north in Idaho. I have not been able to stop into perfume house or fumerie since covid. So, First week of October I get to go to Portland!
That’s great! I was able to visit Fumerie last November and really enjoyed it!
Enjoy your trip!
Where in Idaho are you headed?
I felt like experimenting a little today, so I sprayed Fils de dieu du ritz et des agrumes over a layer of solid Lush Karma. Both give me that early autumn feel, and I think they blended quite well. Probably because they both have prominent sweet, citrus, spicy and aromatic notes. The only issue is that patchouli note from Karma tries to dominate.
how did your layering go?
I think Karma is winning despite being a solid.
Oh, and now I am getting a whiff of Fils de dieu. Nice. Interesting combo for sure.
Patchouli is fabulous.😊 Karma is so, so good.
Hope you are well.
Karma is a big perfume, even in solid form.
I hugged a mom today when I dropped off the kids and she was wearing Coromandel. It smelled so good on her.
I am commando at the moment as I didn’t sleep well and just finished breakfast and haven’t showered. having a really lazy morning…
I will report back later with my SOTD
Hope you get better sleep tonight ltsg.
Thank you!
wow, I wish I’d smelled this on a mom when my kids were young! Mostly they didn’t wear perfume. I remember horrifying some moms at a bowling alley by daubing on a vial of Black Aoud by Montale. They slowly edged away. It cut right through the hamburger/fries smell, LOL
I was Great Idea twins with Robin yesterday afternoon when I briefly considered layering Eau Claire over the L’Ambre des Merveilles I had on. Now I wish I’d tried it!
This morning I’m in Ambre Narguilé. On me it has a definite apple pie note to go along with the sweet tobacco and amber. Perfect for early fall.
It’s a good combo, I used to wear it all the time!
AN is lovely too, of course.
Thanks all for your comments on my post yesterday, y’all gave me a good chuckle 🙂
Guerlain Neroli Vetiver Harvest edition today. My favorite honey scent. I am getting more orange blossom today, perhaps due to the cooling weather? It’s approaching long-sleeves season!
We are in Utah now, boon-docked here overnight with some beautiful views of a gorge. At sunset the walls lit up in the most lovely orange-red hue that looked like they were glowing.
For anyone who likes road trips Utah 14 is a Don’t Miss. It travels east-west between Zion and Bryce Canyon in twisty pattern all the way up to about 10,000 ft. Don’t look for any metal guard rails to give you a false sense of security because there are none. Just some long, steep drops. Not being a fan of heights, it was a white knuckler for me but gorgeous none the less. They were doing road work on the opposite lane in some sections and because Biggie Smols has such a wide 🍑 it felt like my right rear tires were off the pavement and hovering over oblivion. 😅
Almost twins with Glannys in Fils de Dieu. Since my sniffer hasn’t been getting a workout lately, perfume seems to be deeper and more intense these days. Maybe my sniffer is just waking up after a long nap…
Utah is on my must-see list. That glowing gorge sounds gorgeous!
Yes, so many beautiful areas in this state. Pictographs and petroglyphs all over. Great hiking and biking opportunities. In the winter, the lower elevations are just fabulous- cool and sunny, with the nights getting downright nippy! Hope you can spend some time here one day. If it was cooler, I’d really not be in any rush to get to NM because boon-docking here is plentiful! Lots of public lands to explore. 😍
I’m glad you’re having fun, Deva! I’ve heard wonderful things about Bryce Canyon. Be safe!
Thanks!
I got nervous just reading about that drive!
It wasn’t the worst I’ve done and there were some pull-offs that looked like they had spectacular views but I just powered through..😅 No stop and look for me!
Eh, who needs guard rails when the scenery is pretty!
😂
I wholeheartedly sympathise with the white knuckles. I have quite a bad fear of heights and spent a very memorable week in the Alpes Maritimes once. They are STEEP with very narrow roads with mostly no guard rails. At one point I did a U turn on a particularly frightening stretch.
Utah must be stunning I only saw a tiny bit of it near the border with Arizona. I loved those wide open spaces. Hope you have a great time on safe roads!
Thanks! And I cannot judge any U turn ever since I’ve done a few myself. 😂
I sympathise with your experience on narrow windy roads, we’ve got some goat tracks in New Zealand!
Oh I’m sure! When I went to Ireland the only reason I went was because my aunt and uncle would be driving. At one point my uncle was tooling along about a million km/hr, whistling Dixie in a 25 year old Mercedes, zipping around curves on The Wild Atlantic Way in a fashion that made grip my door handle very tightly while clenching my teeth to keep from screaming! I think most places in other countries have those one lane roads with all kinds of blind corners and people jet along like it’s nothing. I’m afraid I’m quite spoiled by mostly well paved and wide roads. I need to brush up my driving skills.
I have been enjoying the stunning pictures you post on your instagram reels recently! Just reading about that drive is making my palms sweat though!
Oh, that’s so nice to know! I’m glad you like them. 😊
The road through Hell’s Canyon is something like that; curves, hairpin turns, narrow shoulders, very few guardrails, and sheer drops down to the canyon floor and the Snake River thousands of feet below. Stunning scenery though! I find I am less nervous on such roads when I am the one driving, so after my husband drove in all the way to the end of the road, we switched and I drove out. We did the same thing with Pike’s Peak; he drove up, I drove down.
I think Hell’s Canyon is actually deeper than the Grand Canyon. I haven’t driven it, and I probably never will. 😅
Yes, it is the deepest canyon in North America, around 8000 feet at its deepest point.
Independence Pass in Colorado is one of the scariest drives I have ever been on. Some of those switchbacks are brutal! But it is so beautiful up there.
Yeah, I was asking on a Northern Lite forum (that’s the kind of camper I have. (If we see each other on the road we always wave 👋🏼. It’s a small group and they’re very helpful if an issue comes up with your camper. They’ve already told me how to fix my fridge!). There were some good suggestions but I will never do a couple which are really Jeep trails. People have died on a couple of those trails. Life is short. I don’t see any reason to hurry it along!
Independence Pass is a paved state highway that carries regular car traffic. However it’s a single lane road in spots which can make for some interesting situations.
My brother knows about some of those Jeep trails since he has an off road rig. Someday he’ll get it running again…
Stay safe, Deva. I had to google these mountain pass roads mentioned. I’m a white-knuckler too plus I hate heights. I had to plan our road trip home from Florida and deliberately picked the route(s) that didn’t have super-crazy mountain passes (as much as I could avoid them).
When we were kids, the one that stuck out for me was Beartooth Pass, on the way to Yellowstone. My Dad wanted to drive it at night. Glad Mom talked him out of such nonsense!
Your mom is a legend. Why are men always wanting to do this kind of stuff? And at NIGHT? Big hugs to you mom whose common sense surpasses 99.9% of most Homo sapiens!
You smell wonderful, Robin!
Wearing Nobile 1942 La Danza delle Libellule. Another transitional and fall scent that I enjoy a lot.
Having my second cup of coffee and a pumpkin scone.
Happy Wednesday! ☕️
Every time I see the name of your perfume, I read it as ‘dance of Lulubelle’.
😀
I love love your SOTD!
Isn’t it a gorgeous scent?
I bought the new Tree Hut Apple scrub to match your sotd. You smell very much like Fall!
We are almost apple/Fall twins! 😀🍎🍏
Enjoying your pumpkin goodies while they are here, right? 🎃
I really have fun every year with apple, maple, and pumpkin goodies. Enjoying them while they last! 🎃🍎
In one of my favorite transitional scents, IA Yesterday Haze. I layered some CB Gathering Apples on top, it’s a delightful combination.
I applied before I came on, seems lots of us are layering today.
I miss Gathering Apples! And the Burning Leaves one too.
I’m in Confetto.
Autumn Equinox already? This month is flying by! I hope I can say the same in January.😂
Yes, too often January just plods along
For sure! The coldest, darkest, longest month of the year.
A fast moving January would be a dream come true!
Ha! Right?! Just til my birthday on the 11th, then it can fast forward to February.😂
I have problems with February dragging. It’s worse than January is to me.
I plinked my sample of Orpheon for my upper body workout this morning. Having a banana pineapple mango ginger smoothie and cooling down now. I think it’ll be Eau Dynamisante after I shower.
The heat has diminished a good bit here, and I’m very grateful. It’s still in the 90’s during the day, but it’s taking awhile to get there. 🥵
Late to say this, but I loved the teapot and dishes from yesterday’s post, Robin. The simple, earthy style really appeals to me.
I would love to have those dishes & teapot!
Oops! I forgot to mention: I’ll be in Los Angeles next week to visit my daughter. I’ll be based in the Los Feliz area, but can drive aways, if anyone would like to meet for lunch and/or a sniffing expedition!
My email is nancys frags aaat geemayle. Drop me a line if interested! 😊
Sorry I’ll miss you, but if you’re ever there from November to March, let me know!
Thanks cazaubon! Maybe I’ll see you in the future. 🤗
In the no-fail EL Jasmine White Moss. I probably haven’t been wearing it, because it’s no longer around, but that is silly. It’s reading summery to my nose, despite being on my Office Scent tray, so now or never…
I do that with discontinued perfumes. I don’t know why.
I’m in my own homebrew today: ylang ylang, rose, bergamot, frankincense, and rosemary. Working from home in cuddly sweater and cuddly socks on a chilly foggy morning, watching gold leaves sift down from the neighbor’s black walnut tree.
Your homebrew ‘fume and sock combo sound marvelous.
I’m back from seeing my regular Doctor. After blood work I am supposed to take vitamin B-12 supplements and go back in 2 weeks. I have been having numbness in my feet and legs. Fortunately some of the scary stuff has been ruled out but I will probably end up getting a nerve test. My sotd is BBW Coco Paradise body spray. It’s a good coconut for fall because it smells more foody than beachy.
I hope everything goes well, Lillyjo! Feel better soon! 🌹🌻🪻
Thank you! Hey is that a Lilac? I will have to see if my phone has one.
That’s a hyacinth. You may have it in your phone! 🪻
Hope things improve for you lillyjo! You smell very nice, I wore that lotion the other day under Angélique Noire.
Thank you!
I really like Coco Paradise. I finally got the lotion and shower gel.
I hope you get good answers and soon! I need to pop over to my local B&BW – it’s one of the nicer stores at our poor little mall.
Their fall scents are pretty good this year.
Lillyjo, pay close attention to your B12 level. I found out in my 40’s that mine was so low I was having neurological symptoms, which is why I made the MD appointment in the first place. And FYI: many elderly people diagnosed with dementia are actually B12 deficient. As soon as it’s corrected, the dementia resolves. Most countries treat anything <400. In the US we are so backwards, we not only don’t ROUTINELY test for it, it’s not treated unless it’s <200. B12 needs “intrinsic factor” to be absorbed and used by your body. If you lack this factor, oral supplementation does nothing because you’re unable to absorb it. Intrinsic factor is secreted by your stomach lining. As people age, or for those on PPI, this factor is significantly reduced or all together absent. Many vegetarians eventually become deficient. So, if you’re low enough to need treatment, the best way is to bypass the oral route all together and get it SQ/IM to ensure it’s available for your body to use. Sorry for the health lesson but this is such a cheap and easy fix and it makes a HUGE difference for people. I wish is was part of annual blood work just like thyroid studies, CBC, and Chem panels…
I was hoping you would chime in. What is SQ/IM?
My doctor told me to take the one’s that dissolve under your tongue.
My levels are in the 300’s somewhere.
SQ and IM stand for subcutaneous or intramuscular injections. In other words, given a shot either under the skin in the tissue or in the muscle.
Thanks!
Sublingual, which is under the tongue, also bypasses the stomach so you will get direct absorption. I’m glad he’s retesting you in a couple of weeks. My level was so low I had to be injected everyday for a week, then weekly, now just monthly for maintenance. My first injection made a huge difference, but as I said I was quite low. In case you switch doctors, make sure you keep track of your levels, because most physicians don’t test for this annually unless there are symptoms. And even if you stay with the same MD, he/she should be testing you annually from now on. Really wish there was a patient advocate job I could find because I’d be good at it! 😀
I really wish I had a ton of money so I could hire you to be my advocate!
Lillyjo, here’s another crazy mashup video to make you feel better:
https://youtu.be/OrlWWrSwaB8
These songs shouldn’t work together, but they do.
Glad that some of the really bad possibilities have been ruled out.
Iconic songs! These mash ups have been so great!
I’ve sent links to the best 2! Some of the others have been weird by my standards. And that’s saying something.
Glad the more dire causes have been ruled out! Please do keep us posted on the B-12 situation.
I will keep you posted for sure.
Nerve test buddies!
The test is unrelated to b-12. My levels are always thousands over.
Happy for you that the worst is not happening.💜
Thanks AP. I’m hoping the B-12 does the trick. I really don’t want to do any tests.
Glad you got a few answers and bad things have been ruled out. I hope you are feeling much better soon!
How are you liking the new Shalimar? I sprayed on some this morning and got a bit of the iris this time. It was much cooler out so maybe the weather amplified it.
I tried it again this evening. I really think it’s lovely. I even thought about getting a BUB, but then I came to my senses. Lol. I still don’t smell caramel.
I’m glad you were able to rule out the scary stuff, lillyjo. My sister tried taking the supplements, but had to go to the B12 shots. She watched a bunch of you tube vids on the process, and it’s second nature to her now. Good luck, friend!
In SL Jeux de Peau today. So warm and cozy.
That is such a cozy one!
Well, speak of the devil…I got an email from Avant-Garden Labs this morning explaining that their customer service rep quit, (so no chat) and when bottles will be shipped. I sent a return email asking about my order, because the scent I wanted is not in production. I guess I’ll see what happens, but at least I know there is someone working there.
Today’s scent is commando, because I think I am going sniffing later. I’d like to try the TF Myrrh and Heaven Can Wait if I can find testers.
Report back !
I’m so glad someone contacted you! Jeez, nothing worse than being left hanging…
And it seems even darker after everyone yanks down the Christmas lights.
Sorry, posted in the wrong place!
At least they are still in business. I’m always afraid to pre-order from small companies, or accept a long lead time, ever since the time that one of them went out of business, taking my money with them.
I can’t remember if I put on perfume this morning but after my shower I did some liberal spraying with Gardénia Passion.
I gifted the remains of a decant of Sables to the lady from whom I’m renting my gîte. She loves the smell of immortelle and I happened to have brought some Sables in my holiday stash. She was instantly smitten.
I had to look up gîte! Sounds like you’re having a lovely time and meeting nice folks! 👍🏼
Back in Stella today. I like and it’s safe for work. Yesterday I wore Iris Malikhan. I may have to buy a small bottle when this decant (from an NST split) is used up.
(And then I look at my perfume stash and think I’d better not.)
That’s what my perfume stash tells me all the time 🙂
So I went to Yves Rocher to smell their Bourbon Vanilla lotion. It was very thin and plasticky smelling so that’s a no go. There’s an EOS Vanilla Cashmere at Target that looks promising, will try that when I get to San Diego.
Went sniffing briefly, to retest perfumes I had smelled a long time ago and had no real memory of: Guerlain Musc Outreblanc, Frenchy Lavande, Joyeuse Tubéreuse and Cruel Gardénia. They are all still a no except for Cruel Gardénia which was pleasant but I’m not really a gardenia person.
Smelled Ambre Narguilé but it was too sweet & fruity on me. The Kilian Angel’s Share tester was broken so I couldn’t compare them.
So no real scent of the day… will have a wash later and put on Ambre Russe.
I was able to smell Cruel Gardenia once and really liked it.
That is a lot of sniffing in one day!
Shame about the YR lotion.
Keep me upbeat folks! When the poop hits the fan this sticky, I’m very prone to seizures.
I think I’ll skip the perfume. I’ll follow my sweet Jalapeno, the shins.
Fake it til you make it, right?
Wishing everyone a very, very uneventful day.
I hope you get uneventful soon, too, AP!! You know you’ll power through in the end!
Thank you, MossyBerry. I’m going to screenshot this comment.
Always in my prayers Annie. You are in my thoughts. 🌻
You are always in mine, as well. I really, really appreciate your prayers like you wouldn’t believe. I know I can count on you. (Wipes eyes)
Something upbeat? OK!
I took lillyjo’s suggestion about which Korres Body Butter to try next. I am now enjoying their Grecian Gardenia very much on my shins.
Hang in there, amiga!
Gosh, I adore you. I’ll take that suggestion and check out the butters.
I’m hanging by a thread. My friends didn’t notice. I guess I can fake it.
Thanks.💜
Sending you scented thoughts of strength and perseverance.
“Rest if you must, but don’t quit!”
I think I know who you watch on IG…❤️
I hope things are smooth sailing for you soon, dear Annie!
O tulipani. Thank you. The love helps.💜
https://youtu.be/-OO9LloDSJo?feature=shared
Here’s something upbeat. Rooting for you AP!
That was so great! Thank you.💜 lillyjo, between the Korres and even just the title of the song, I find such comfort.
Always thinking of you! Hugs 🤗
I know you do and I love you sincerely. I’m grateful for your hugs. Please keep them coming.
Sending good thoughts beaming your way. (As well as a long overdue package!)
It is still in the upper 80s, lower 90s F here in Coral Gables so I am picking something that works for me until late November, Etro Anice. Lovely mildly foody sweet anise fragrance.
I was looking at my mostly dormant to-buy list for a splurge and was saddened to find out that Al Attarine is discontinued.
El Attarine is one of my regrets too.
I’m wearing ELDO Like This. I really love this one for Fall. It’s hazy and smokey here today, which sadly has become semi-normal for Fall around me.
That’s a great one for fall!
Sorry to hear that you are stuck with smoky conditions. Bleah!
Tom Ford Lost Cherry for the win today.I needed cherry and I needed vanilla, and I’m glad to say this one always satisfy the craving.
We had a freak windstorm last night, with trees uprooted and roadsigns flattened…it was scary. My neighbor lost a balcony sliding door!(no damages on my side, two terracotta pots on my balcony fell over, but they’re quote sturdy so no breakages)The estate was a mess this morning with all the tree-debris etc!
My weekend starts NOW.
Excited about Saturday:Off to see the Candace Bushnell onewoman show in Jhb,should be fun!
XO’s
Enjoy your weekend!
What lillyjo said!
Long weekend for you? Hurray!
That must have been quite the windstorm! Glad you did not lose a door, what a pain.
Have a great time at the CB show!
I’m wearing Indochine today, always a favourite.
You smell great Gaynor 🙂
Too warm today to wear a fall fragrance so wearing Dame’s Lime, Gardenia and Benzoin for Women. Very fresh and inoffensive IMO.
I think Friday I will pull out the fall/winter fragrances as it is cooling down and supposedly raining all weekend.
Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. Old Man Winter will be here before you know it.
Oh, I know it.
A quite day, still wearing and enjoying Iris Millesime. Fans of MVP, do report when you get a chance to compare. Cooking the last big haul of garden tomatoes to freeze. They can smell a bit yucky at first!
But you’ll be so glad to have them later, right? We usually get such great tomatoes here, but the weather must have been wrong this year — didn’t really have a fantastic tomato all summer.
My Shalimar Iris arrived today and just sprayed it on for a test drive. 🙂
I am getting lots of iris in the opening and the usual facets of Shalimar w/ some airy vanilla that some might say borders on caramel. ehaheeh I bring that up b/c lots of reviews both here and on Fragantica cite caramel but I am not sure if I would peg it as caramel without having had that reference. Others on Fragrantica say they don’t detect iris and/or the leather, etc. usually present in Shalimar but I am getting powdery iris w/ some airy vanilla so far…definitely gossamer as compared to MVP or Shalimar Tonka…not a bad thing by any means just noting it is lighter and somehow more airy.
So far? I like it plenty. ehaeheh But yeah lots of buttery iris to my nose…not absent as some would have you believe. 😉
It is so airy! It makes me want to wear a flowey dress.
Oh, this comment make me so happy! Thank you!
I got 3 packages today … one of which contains Shalimar Iris. I will open the package tomorrow and wear it as my SOTD!
Glad that your blind buy was a winner!
You described it much better than I did yesterday, but I would say your description is about exactly how I feel about it.
I second that! Pretty well syncs up with my experience trying it yesterday.
Wearing Aftelier Alchemy. I think it smells appropriately fall-like, although the choice was accidental. I realized I didn’t have any perfume on, and it was the only thing in my purse. I do love it though.
Oooh, you smell great. Alchemy is one of my favorites from Aftelier!
Not even a hint of Autumnal chill in the air today. More crystal blue skies. One confused crabapple tree outside is sending out new leaves and a few flowerbuds. I opened by the screen door to the patio for fresh air, which is always something that Teflon kitty appreciates.
SOTD = commando, except for the first time try of Korres’ Grecian Gardenia Body Butter on my shins. If you all see this one, get it while you can! It seems to be a very limited edition item (phooey).
Which do you prefer.. Korres or Dame Gardenia?
They are different critters, so it’s not comparing like to like, despite them being the same flower. The Dame Gardenia is more indolic and vampy. The Korres is girly, quite pretty and moisturizes better.
It was beautiful in these here parts!
Yes it was!
I’m in Eau de Gaga today, just because. It felt kinda sporty when putting it on after my workout. But not really on CP…
You smell great! I have a bottle somewhere …
My SOTD is an unknown L’Occitane from a mini I bought at a thrift shop. It was one of those La Collection de Grasse “&” bottle series that came out a few years back. It is unmarked, annoyingly. I know it’s not the Iris Bleue Iris Blanc or Tea & Bigarade, or Vanille Narcisse or Jasmin Bergamote so I suppose it’s the Magnolia & Mure but I can’t be 100% sure. They are all very pretty and light and great for summer.
That’s exactly what they were, and I did not think any of them were fantastic, but they were better than what L’Occitane is doing now!
It’s like archeological excavation – the farther back in time you go, the better they get.
Late to getting here today and posting and running so hope to catch up on reading yesterday’s and today’s comments later.
I’m in a good scent to transition to fall, Rebecca Minkoff EDP. I did a blind buy from Nordstrom Rack over Labor Day weekend and got a 30ml bottle for $16.85. It’s one of those no brainer perfumes. It reminds me of EL Sensuous or the discontinued Leslie Blodgett Bare Skin.
Wow, that was an amazing perfume bargain!
Yes, I couldn’t pass it up!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDT
Not a typo and it is so good! I haven’t worn this in ages due to my aversion to imperfect bottles – the atomizer housing has a dent. How it passed QA is beyond me. I should just think of it as the runt of the litter. One of these days, I’ll take a picture of the offending section.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CxbogpIxRGy/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
The runt of the litter. You never fail to make me laugh, even if the bottle makes you cranky.
Huh, I am getting a “Page not found” error from your Insta link. Bummer!
LURVE No. 19 EdT! 😻
Smelling great! I think the edt is my favorite version. Sorry that your bottle is dented; that would drive my inner-Virgo nuts!
I also couldn’t see your post.
Late posting in Dune. I’ve gone back and forth on Dune but it’s growing on me and seems like a good transitional fragrance.
