Ahoy! It’s Tuesday and International Talk Like a Pirate Day. What fragrance be ye wearin?
I'm in Lalique Encre Noir, which I have not worn in eons (and I'm taking points, since I included it in 5 perfumes: vetiver fragrances for fall).
Reminder: 9/22 is the day before the Autumn Equinox (in the northern hemisphere, at least). Wear a fragrance that says adiós to summer, or hello to fall, or wear your favorite transitional fragrance. (If you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the teapot is from the Fuji collection for El Corte Inglés, in beige stoneware (also available in white), €19.95.
Robin, you smell wonderful today. I can’t find my bottle of EN, I think my husband stole it.
My transitional sotd is Chergui. So good.
I almost wore Chergui!
Great pick, Chergui is wonderful.
I hardly have any so I’ve an excuse not to wear it, but no excuse for not wearing Encre Noire more often.
Today is my mother’s 83rd birthday and she’s celebrating by chopping and stacking wood 😂
I’m thrilled she and my dad are still doing well mentally and physically. It’s because of her that I fell down the rabbit hole at age three. I will wear an Estée Lauder fragrance tonight to honor her but for work I am wearing Vanille Violette which is a great transition scent.
Happy B-day to Mummy Chocolatemarzipan! Which EL does she wear? My mum wears Knowing.
She loves so many from EL…..Aliage, White Linen, Knowing, Private Collection, Estée, Azuree… we had them all in my childhood home when I was growing up.
Lady after my own heart!😊 I love EL scents too. Youth Dew, Knowing, Spellbound, Private Collection…can’t choose!
Oh yes!! Youth Dew!! She had the bath oil decades ago!!
Happy birthday to your mom! Mine is 83 as well.
Thank you!!! She’s getting White Sandalwood which she requested 😻from the home collection 🎁💜
Happy Birthday to your mom! 🎂🎁
Thank you pl67!!!!!!
Happy Birthday to your Mom!🥳
Awww thanks lillyjo!!
Your mom sounds fun! Mine loved EL perfumes too.
They were such great fragrances right? And so easy to get and sample and highly affordable too.
Happy Birthday to your amazing mom!
Thank you Gail!!!
Happy birthday for your mum! It’s great that both your parents are still doing so well.
Yes it’s definitely a blessing
Happy birthday to your mother.
Thank you Gaynor!!
SOTD (and yesterday, and over the weekend) is Caron’s Infini, because that’s what Portia and I chose to write about in this month’s “CounterPoint” collaboration. I’ve realized it is a great fragrance for the transition to call! Tomorrow I’ll probably wear my new Un Jardin à Cythère, although it may be more summer than fall. I think it will work in the sunny, dry month of September. My husband brought it back for me this weekend from his work trip to London — and now he has COVID, poor thing. I’m sure he caught it on the plane. So far I feel fine and have tested negative.
So sorry! I was trying to wish Mama Marzipan a happy birthday, and the comment I left below about SOTD popped up instead! Happy birthday, Mama Marzipan!
Happy Scented (and wood chopping!) Birthday to your Mom, chocolatemarzipan! 🎂🌈🎊🪓
Wow! Your mom sounds like something else and obviously in great shape. Happy Birthday to her🎉
Happy birthday to Mama Marzipan!
Good for her…use it or lose it, right? Hope she got some cake out of the deal too 🙂
Galop d’Hermès from a wee sample that has just enough left. It’s a lovely beginning of Fall scent.
My birthday today, which I often only remember when someone references Talk Like a Pirate Day. Or, if my half-awake husband says happy birthday then falls back asleep (as he did today). I told him no gifts because I planned to buy an Apple Watch. Now I’m being lazy about that…happy to hear nay or yea from folks who own one.
It’s funny that I still have a gift certificate to Lucky Scent. Yet I’m kind of wishing I’d gotten one from a store with more non-niche scents. Odd.
Happy birthday!!!
Happy birthday!!!
I have an Apple watch and it’s a yea from me. I love how it tracks my basic fitness, movement and heart rate and then I can also use it for basic messaging etc. without taking out my phone.
Happy birthday! I don’t have an Apple watch or any desire to own one. I understand what you mean about the niche scent issue.
Happy Birthday, LizzieB! 🎂🌹
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday LizzieB!!
Happy Birthday!🎁
Happy birthday! I don’t have an Apple Watch…but then, Mr. Ockeghem is really into watches so we all have nice automatic watches. I feel like I’m tethered to my phone (really, phones; work requires a separate phone) enough; I’ll keep my wrist for jewelry (or jewelry-like watches) and perfume. 🙂 But I do get the attraction — nice to have the fitness tracking without carrying a phone to track.
Fellow watch nerd here! I do have a couple of quartz watches, and I have a Casio G Shock which I wear for situations in which I expect to get wet or messy. I do like to be able to know the time, even at the beach or in a pool or when doing yardwork and such. Most of the time, however, I wear one of my mechanical watches. I even have a few manual wind models.
Arrrr! Happy Birthday matey! Arr ..
If its talk like a pirate day…
I hope you have a really happy and peaceful day.
Happy Birthday, Lizzie! Yes I have an Apple Watch. I bought mine primarily because it has a function of notifying people if you have a bad fall. I’m not sure how it tells but it does work. It first gives you a little message and asks if you need help. You can tell it “No, I”m OK.” I guess if you don’t, it contacts your emergency person. I felt I needed something like that due to living alone and being prone to falls. Other than that I like having it for checking e-mail and phone messages. My advice is, don’t buy the Apple bands as they are ridiculous expensive. Look on Amazon and you will find hundreds of alternatives, in all colors and materials, and it’s fun to play around with them. Above all don’t buy a cloth band of any kind. This might be obvious to you, but perfume tends to get into the cloth and stay there and it begins to smell a bit rotten. I had to throw mine away.
Happy birthday!
No experience with the Apple Watch, but Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Ahoy, Happy Scented Birthday thar, LizzieB! 🎂🎁🍻
Happy Birthday Lizzie🎉
Happy birthday 🎊🎂!
I have an Apple Watch and I’ve had it for a good 5 years, if not longer. I got it on sale when the 2nd generation one after mine was just announced. I do like it and only use a handful of the functions so whenever I’m tempted to replace it, I always ask myself what am I going to use it for? Anyway, one of the features I like is to answer calls with it and I always give my standard excuse of “I am using my Dick Tracy watch” and may need to call them back!
Happy Birthday, Lizzie!
Happy birthday!
I did not want an apple watch, but talked my sister into getting a used one because she was worried about her heart rate post-covid. I convinced her by telling her I’d buy it from her if it did not suit her. So after her heart calmed down she made me buy it.
It annoyed me for about 2 or 3 weeks, and now, a good year+ later, I will never be without one — if this one breaks, I’ll have to buy a new one.
Belated happy birthday, LizzieB!
Hello.
Sotd is TF Myrrhe Mystere. Resinous, rounded, lightly sweet and vanillic. Quite nice! I don’t think it’s similar to Ebene Fume as some people (including my SA) think though.
Woke up this morning with a massive bruise on the back of my left hand. Wonder what I did while I was asleep…
Your scent sounds yummy! I just finished off my travel spray of Oud Wood. I really like those travel sprays.
I’ve heard good things about MM! You make me want to try it now.
I want to try MM!
I’d like to try that and compare it to the Le Labo Myrrhe 51 (or whatever it is) because I’m liking it more and more. It’s stupidly expensive but I guess yours probably is too.
That’s strange about your hand and the bruise. Perhaps you rolled over and just knocked it onto a headboard or nearby table?
Ooooooooh, that TF Myrrhe Mystere is sounding too good!
Grabbed Ted Lapidus Création because I was in the mood for that sort of everything-bagel eighties scent — it’s a floral oriental but really it’s a chypre and also green on top with lots of fruit notes…. It sounds overwhelming (or at least exhausting) but it’s exactly my kind of thing.
I love that one too! Found a vintage bottle for a song online.
Another dark rainy day, in which I woke up at 3am angry because the movers had lost my furniture and were offering me only $160 of compensation. LOL. So now after a post-breakfast nap with the dog, I’m wearing Angélique Noire.
I am so sorry that happened! I would be furious also.
And you smell fab!
Thanks! And it was just a nightmare, not reality.
That’s just wrong on so many levels. You must be raging.
It was a nightmare, sorry I wasn’t clear!
The LOL in your post makes so much more sense now, lol! I am thinking why would you be laughing at such a situation. You had us going for a minute there, Caz! 😀
I obviously wasn’t clear – this was a nightmare that woke me up at 3am, not a real situation!
Oh good. I thought what are you going to buy with $160.00? A throw pillow?!
Exactly! I remember thinking, that isn’t even enough to buy one chair!
Yikes! That is awful
I’m glad that was only a dream; had it been real, that would have been infuriating. The worst experience I ever had with movers was the time they showed up on moving day, looked around, and refused to move us. They claimed it was because we had more stuff than they expected (after they declined to actually come by the house first and look it over to see how much stuff we had), and because we had cats, and so “there might be pet hair on stuff and it would get out blankets dirty.”
Wow, that is shocking. I would have been in a dead panic on our last move. Even with 30 days notice I had trouble getting a booking. Can’t imagine having moving day come and get a refusal like that. But there are horror stories every year in Montreal about unscrupulous movers who extort people or just don’t show up.
This was a local move, so it was not nearly as bad as if it had been a long-distance move. We had bought a house, and were moving from the rental to our new home in a nearby town about 20 miles away. I had taken a week off from work to pack and move, and it was Thursday, so I had three more days before I had to be back at work.
I WAS panicked, though, and so I did the natural thing in such a situation–I sat down and ugly cried in my living room for about 15 minutes. Then I got on the phone, called around, and found a U Haul location with a truck available that day, and a small, independent moving company to get the really heavy stuff that we couldn’t or wouldn’t move ourselves (washer and dryer, refrigerator, and the very largest pieces of furniture). We spent the rest of the day moving everything we could ourselves with the U Haul, took numerous additional loads with our cars on Friday (the U Haul people could only let us have the truck for one day), and then the other movers came and got the heavy stuff on Saturday.
Ugh, what a horrible ordeal although you made it work out in the end. Just another reason why moving is a top ten DISlike for me.
Those damn movers! Sounds like one of my dreams. Hope your waking day goes more smoothly.
Ugh, that nightmare!
I hate moving with a passion, too. I’d rather have a root canal.
Leftover from yesterday; L’Envol does indeed read unisex.
👍
😀
I’m wearing Fidji edt. I don’t know if it fits the CP, but I like galbanum.
Galbanum is good 🍃🍃🍃
You smell great, Robin. I finally used up my bottle on EN this year by using it as air freshener in my car 🙂
In Cuir Ottoman today.
Shalimar Iris is out for delivery today!
Those three little words that make a perfumista’s heart flutter: out for delivery. Looking forward to your thoughts!
Yes and yes!
Just received mine 5 minutes ago. I will report below.
I do not think I will ever finish my bottle !
Sotd Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles. One of my favorite transitional scents despide being so fleeting.
Coffee and a couple of pumpkin madeleines to sweeten a rough day at work today. Happy Tuesday!☕️
Please pass me a madeleine!!
Lol! Passing you some!
Hopefully the day smooths itself out for you!
Thank you, Lillyjo! Fingers crossed!🤞
Oh yum, madeleines!!
Delish!
I love that one too! Must remember to put it out where I’ll use it this fall. Thanks for the reminder! You smell great.
Thank you! I am glad you will enjoy it again this Fall!
I don’t think I have ever had a madeleine! What are they like?
They are like little spongy butter cakes.
Drooling now after reading your description! 😋
Oh, I should wear that this week!
Sorry you had a rough day.
Happy Teapot Tuesday 🙂
It’s the second time this week someone has gotten up from their seat on the subway when I sat down next to them. Today I had on 4 sprays of No 5 Eau Premiere, fairly inoffensive. Wondering if they were offended by my perfume, or just my face. Who knows? I’m not taking it personally as everyone else around me was unbothered.
Still thinking about my transitional scents, probably going for the resinous ones — I thoroughly enjoyed Bengal Rouge yesterday. Thank you again to the NSTer who sent me a sample! I wish I remembered who it was because must thank you <3
Lol at “or just my face” 🤣
hahahaha must the only other reason!
This is my new strategy for riding the subway or bus. Lots of perfume, and maybe I’ll get some space around me? 🙂
I gotta say, it’s working out pretty well for me and it’s only been when I wore my lighter stuff — can you imagine 10 sprays of a powerhouse? 😂
Tubéreuse Criminelle! 😎
Oooh – I would snuggle up to someone wearing TC
I love this strategy! Must say though that I’d prefer “10 sprays of a powerhouse” to the skunky stink of weed that’s everywhere in the subway these days
truly, the city has so many awful smells already, perfume is one of the least offensive ones!
I do find some “light” scents to be more aggressive than “heavy” scents at permeating the surrounding space. Many times heavier, stronger notes tend to wear closer to the skin.
Now I’m trying to figure out what is the most powerful perfume I own. Maybe Attrape-Coeur? American Perfumer Desert Flower? Amouage Gold? I can’t imagine putting on 10 sprays of any of those.
Excellent strategy!
Try wearing a big oud fragrance, 10-15 sprays, and see what happens!
I’ll get the whole car to myself! Haha
Wonder what would happen if you did 8 sprays of an old school heavy hitter?
Seriously, though, subway stink is nasty. 🤢
Some people just don’t care for perfumes, including some faux perfume phobes. Anyway, I am just wondering if your clothes are starting to smell funky again? I believe you solved the problem by using some kind of softener (I could be wrong about this) but maybe it’s time to do the thing again?
Quietly snickering at “faux perfume phobes”.
I figured out the laundry thing! it coincided with some medication I was taking… haven’t had that problem since I went off.
Ahoy, me mateys! Arrr!
(Talk Like a Pirate Day always amuses me. Definitely using this at work today…always good for a laugh and once in a while someone’s excited that you know the day.)
SOTD will be Shalimar MI, which came yesterday. I tried it yesterday afternoon and will wear it again today…seems CP compliant because…I got it in fall? Caramel apples? Something…
My initial take on it is pretty much the same as everyone else’s — very caramel forward, very sweet. There is iris there in the top notes, but it is not playing a starring role, it just serves to complicate things a tiny bit. (I could smell it when I had my arm to my nose, but otherwise not.) 15 or 20 minutes in, you do realize you’re wearing Shalimar, just a very caramel version. We’ll see if anything changes when I wear it after my shower.
I just received it too so I will share my thoughts below.
Yarr, ye olde sea salt!
Your experience with Shalimar MI sounds very similar to mine! The caramel makes me crave the candy so much.
Stumbled upon the little collection of 4 new scents perfumer Olivia Giacobetti (!!!!!) has signed for Zara and I’m wearing my personal favorite, Vapeur Blanche, today.
It’s eucalyptus, steam, cedar, and musk. I also detect a touch of lilies. That Zara can offer a scent like this for 26€ (100mL) is remarkable. If you enjoy her style of perfumery, you can indulge a bit without breaking the bank!
And indulge I just did! I cannot resist an Olivia Giacobetti fragrance and at those prices, I didn’t even put up a fight😍
Please, report back. I love everything from Olivia Giacobetti.
Scrambled to work without perfume, so guess it’s the EBP of Prada iris absolue.
Ack! Perfume emergency!
In Azemour today. This should evoke high summer, based on the notes, but for me it’s definitely late-summer-heading-into-fall. And it’s glorious, of course.
Such a good one!
Isn’t it? You smell great in a Cuir Ottoman too!
We are slowly packing up and getting ready to head out. I’ve learned over the past week that it’s best to stop for the day in the late afternoon/early evening after the sun is well in its way to bed and start when the cool mornings begin to get a bit too warm for comfort. So, most of the time we are in A/C during the hottest part of the day.
I’m in SSS Equestrian today. It’s a lovely fall scent and I only wish the weather matched its vibe. We are traveling slowly so doggo doesn’t get too stressed and I don’t get too tired of driving. Usually about 3-4 hours per day which is why if feels like I’ve been in Nevada since birth. 😅
As for the new Shalimar flanker… for the folks that have already gotten theirs, do you smell “caramel” because it’s says so in the notes, or would you be able to easily identify the caramel note as “caramel” even if you were sniffing blind with no note list whatsoever..? Just curious because I’m not able to see Guerlain doing a cloying candy scent, but I’ve been wrong many times before….🤷🏻♀️
Robin, I like that tea set! Very simple and homey. And the price is nice, too!
Hi Deva. I only wore MI once and did not smell caramel. So far I am the only one though. I will look for it on my next wearing.
Spending 3 hours in a car would be a nightmare for me. I don’t like to do more than 30 minutes! Lol.
https://youtu.be/SKX6GOmTGBA?feature=shared
Here’s a song for you 🎶🤗
Love that song of course! 🤘🏼 And good to know you don’t get any caramel. Do you like it?
I do really like it. I get a gauzy iris + Shalimar and did not find it overly sweet.
I am having sinus issues atm so I might just be missing the caramel.
Funny about your MI experience. I worry sometimes after reading reviews and note lists that I will be swayed. But the very first spritz was caramel and I had no doubt.
Does it stay caramel, or does it morph a bit. I don’t think I’d like caramel all day…😬
You aren’t the only one. I got Iris too. I haven’t smelled the caramel yet.
You can read ockeghem impression above of the new Shalimar
Yes, I read that, thanks!
Good to hear you’re having time to relax! Does T-Rex get stressed driving? My dog used to love it and just basically sleep or sniff the different smells.
Yes, she gets over stimulated if riding up front with me. I can’t use audio with my GPS because as soon as she hears “arrive” or “destination” it’s like someone lit firecrackers off under her. She does a lot of panting and tapping me with her paw. So if we’re going long distance at high speeds, she’s better in the kennel in back seat of the cab. She has NEVER once fallen asleep while we’re driving. I’ve had numerous dogs over the years and they were all like yours- perfect time for a nap. Even as a puppy, the more tired she became the more her craziness escalated and her only off button I’ve ever found was crating her with a blanket over to limit external stimuli.
She is a Red Heeler isn’t she? I’ve heard that they have incredible work drive. Off switches are only optional 😉
Omg. Sometimes I feel like I should buy a tranquilizer gun and dart her when she gets wound up. Most of the vets I’ve been to feel she is a heeler/pit mix and pits are very active as well, so she got the double genetic whammy.
I’m getting a good bit of iris from MI, along with the lemony part of Shalimar, to start. Then some caramel later on.
Oh, great to know! I like sweet but not sickly sweet so I’m glad to know you aren’t getting straight up sugar. I love the creamy lemon but in the original, so I’m glad to hear it. Iris for me is about 50/50, so relaxing a bit now to know it’s not heavy on the iris note. Thanks!
I wasn’t looking for the caramel but it stood out the most to me! But it’s like a really good grown-up, buttery caramel — sweet but still classy IMO.
Thanks for your input. When everyone started saying “Caramel!” I started to get a bit worried. I love the taste and smell of it but I’m afraid in a perfume it might be too much. Time will tell!
If I lived in Spain near ECI I would buy that teapot!
When do you arrive in NM?
We’re not on any set schedule. I’d prefer to do a bit more wandering but the heat during the daytime really limits me. I don’t enjoy anything when I feel the sun crisping me up in my own fat and juices. Having said that, the drive today was amazing, with temps about 65F because we were at 10,000 feet. But what goes up, must come down…
That’s nice to have to schedule. Hope things will cool down…
Wearing vintage Scherrer for the CP today. One of my fave scents for this time of year. And for a perfect day – 72, sunny, and breezy. Heaven!
Is that the “green” Scherrer?
Yes, the first one, not the oriental one.
Ooh, you smell great, and you’re right — it is perfect for this kind of September day.
Thank you. Glad you’re having a nice weather day, too!
You smell so good and green!💚
I decided to go with Guerlain Parure. Chypres mostly smell like fall to me, so I am claiming points for this. I’m hoping the weather here will take a hint and follow suit, although there is some hope. If the forecasts are correct, we may be out of the triple digits for this year.
Oh, you smell amazing! I agree, chypres are excellent for transitional seasons. I have some Parure edt, and it’s spectacular.
The edt is what I have as well. It smells very elegant to me. I think maybe chypres are the fragrance type most likely to make me feel underdressed.
Oh, and for tea today, I’m back to my dupe of Empress blend. 👑
Robin, you smell wonderful today. Love that little teapot photo.
I love the teapot and the dishes…
And forgot to report my tea again. It’s nearly 10 pm now so it’s my usual pot of strong ginger tea 🙂
Sampling Pink Boa today which was a surprising like the first time I tried it.
I get sweet and sour powdery raspberry w/ citrus and musk. It’s the sour I really am enjoying for some reason. 🤷♀️It’s somehow sweet yet refreshing.
What? No vanilla? I’m glad you like it though; I haven’t smelled this myself.
It might have a little in retrospect ehaehe it’s sweet but not particularly vanilla-y.
I was reading reviews on Fragrantica and one nailed it and said the opening is the most interesting part but it shortly morphs into LPRN and that’s pretty accurate methinks. The opening might be the vodka note which I identified as sour ehehe 😉 but I like it…maybe vodka coupled w/ bergamot but that lasts maybe 30 minutes or so and you get LPRN or a LPRN flanker…wish the opening lasted longer. It’s nice but I am trying to be more judicious about FBs and to think in terms of price per ml. Wish me luck on that. 🤣
The dry down is pretty good though ehaeheh I have realized I am all about the dry down for most perfumes..I guess that’s where the vanilla often shines too. This one has a persistent sweet, raspberry patchouli in the base that’s rather lovely. The struggle is real. 😉
Spent the day in vintage Nina by Nina Ricci. Did a nice long walk with views on Lake Geneva and the Alps. The weather was perfect, not too warm and no rain. It rained heavily last night and early this morning so everything just smelled of damp earth. Having a great time so far.
Everything you describe sounds wonderful, from your fragrance to your excursion.
So glad you are having a wonderful holiday and got to Martigny the other day. It’s such a wonderful gallery.
That sounds beautiful!
Spent half of my evening in the ER yesterday. With my asthma acting up and the lingering effects of my cold, I thought I might have had bronchitis or pneumonia. They didn’t see either on the x-rays but gave me tons of prednisone to take home. Apparently the ER has been seeing this a lot lately. Wearing a dab of Feminite du Bois, which was my first Serge Lutens purchase.
Hope you are feeling better soon, Dawn.
That’s not a great way to spend your evening, I hope you’re feeling better.
Oh my that sounds awful. I hope the Prednisone will take care of your problems as quickly as possible.
Feel better!
Sending healing vibes and get well wishes!
Sorry to hear that Dawn. Do perfumes make it worse?
Hope you are feeling better, Dawn.
Sorry to hear this…hope you feel better soon, Dawn…glad you went.
I went outside just before five to look at Aries and was surprised how warm it was, 21C. We are in the midst of the foehn NW winds, really strong , blowing across the country. All the cherry blossom will be stripped from the trees and the birds will be flying backwards . Wearing Tutti Twilly as I was tempted by the small travel bottle, and it’s a nice match for these warmer days. I have my art class tonight, painting with acrylics. Last week we painted teapots . I haven’t painted with acrylics before and was interested in how sticky and plastic-like they are. I think I prefer watercolours though acrylics are a bit more forgiving.
Interesting to hear about. I had my latest watercolor class today but it might not continue due to low enrollment. I’ll be very disappointed if it won’t go on. Our teacher said she’s thinking of teaching a class about using oil sticks but the main drawback is that they’re very expensive. We were learning today about how to create varied textures on rocks and how to begin to depict water effects like spray and spume and reflections, etc. I would love to learn more on that!
I subscribe to the “ The Artist” magazine, British, through my library ( so it’s free) and it has fantastic tips and exercises for watercolours, like how to improve sea and sky techniques. Really worth checking out for step by step techniques. I hope your class keeps going. I find being in a class environment very peaceful due to the lack of distractions, two hours of focus is nice.

This is the magazine
Thank you!
Just back from London and had such a fun time in Liberty, Harrods and stand alone shops like Miller Harris and Floris ending the days smelling like a major stinky. My dear husband tolerated this all quite well. Ended up purchasing a Nicolai citrus, Eau d’Ete, with that lovely cinnamon note. More summer than winter but who cares. The 30ml makes purchase easier. 🙂
It’s been 20 years since we were last in London. Of course, not enough time to see all we wanted to but so happy to be back.
SOTD is a bit of Floris Chypress.
How fun! Harrods is mind-boggling but I really love Liberty’s, because it’s so quaint and old and charming. Great you could go there after so much time has passed. No London trips are on the horizon for me, sadly.
Welcome back!
How lovely! And great choice. My Eau d’Ete is starting to turn but it did last for years and years.
More windy weather, it’s that time of year. It makes walking hard work, and somewhere between exhilarating and exhausting. I’m wearing an any-time-of-the-year favorite, 31 Rue Cambon.
I agree
Rue Cambon is year round
Also unisex
I shared my bottle with my son
31 RC is wonderful stuff.
Definitely anytime of the year perfume. Love that one.
Harrods is mind-boggling! Too much!
So many brands I’d never heard of.
I hope he gets better soon and that you remain well!
Diptyque Eau Nabati was my SOTD
Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique for bedtime now.
Both well done and interesting new fumes!
XO’s
Oh I don’t even know that Diptyque!
I am wearing Lancome Santal Kardamon today. I made chicken korma yesterday and was reminded of how the warming spices seem to herald autumn.
I have a question about Avant-Garden Lab. I ordered and paid for a fragrance back in May and heard from them that shipping would be delayed until “the beginning of September.” I have heard nothing else. I know that they shut down during the pandemic and were trying to get back on their feet but I’m not on social media so I don’t know if they are posting updates somewhere. Does anyone here know?
Yum to chicken korma!
I just googled them. Their website has a chat feature, so you might think of using that to get some answers.
I’ve tried chat before, nobody ever seems to be on the other end. I am going to be angry if I gave away 165 euros for nothing. Thanks for trying to help.
Ack, sorry about that. If it makes you feel any better, I called Amazon customer service, and apparently it was not the REAL Amazon. I got scammed $100 because I’m an absolute fool. You might think of calling you bank and disputing the charges so you’ll at least (hopefully) get your money back.
Oh, I am so sorry! There are so many spoof sites out there it is hard to know who is genuine.
Wish I could help re: Avant-Garden Lab. Never heard of them, though.
SotD Shalimar Millesime Iris. I’m very intrigued by it, yet it did not live up to my expectations – at first sniff. I was surprised at the strong caramel opening – Shalimar and caramel *do not* go together in my mind, though I liked it. Next, I was disappointed because it seemed to be a very toned-down Shalimar. Then, interesting things with the iris and the Shalimar profile begin, so I am enjoying it so far. One of Delphine Jelk’s other creations, Iris Torrefie slowly became a big love. Millesime Iris has some of the same diffusive quality – but it is not like Iris T. Perhaps I have clobbered my nose too often with my favorite room-fillers. I can miss complexity in a more delicate structure. I hope this helps – it’s a beautiful late Summer day here, and I am feeling fluffy-headed. I did have a tea of the day for once: Smith Tea’s Black Lavender. It has Ceylon and lapsang souchong black teas, French lavender and rose petals. I quite enjoy it, but it will not become a staple.
Your Tea of the Day sounds great! But I have to watch my caffeine intake or I won’t sleep worth a darn.
Maybe Shalimar Iris is seasonal? I am waiting for mine!
Wearing Shalimar Millesime Iris today as well and really enjoying it. I get definite gauzy iris and some of the lemony part of Shalimar in the opening, then some caramel later on. It’s quiet enough to be office-friendly, which isn’t the case with my other Shalimar flankers. Strongly considering trying for a BUB.
Woop! I am waiting for my tracking number as I ended up ordering online. Bergdorfs is not sure when their shipment will arrive.
My bottle was just delivered to my mail forwarding service in Florida. Can’t wait to try it! I got my from the Guerlain website and their shipping was quite fast. A total 180* experience from the time I ordered the original MVP flanker. They canceled my order and never notified me. When I called and asked what was taking so long for a shipment notification, they said (in a very snooty manner) “We don’t ship to mail forwarding companies because of FRAUD!” Really, Guerlain? Seems they’re whistling a different tune these days. .
This makes me very happy! 😀
Trying my hardest not to hop on the Shalimar Millesime Iris lemming train!
A perfect late summer afternoon here after a chilly start to the day. Days are noticeably shorter now, with at least an hour less light in the evening.
I had a couple of friends get married on Talk Like A Pirate Day during the height of the pandemic. They had a lovely, very small ceremony outdoors.
SOTD = back to commando today, except for Dame Perfumery’s Gardenia soliflore body butter on my shins. I’ve finally started to make a dent in the 2 oz sample container.
You smell lovely🌸
Thank you! I’m holding on to summer with that Gardenia.
It was for sure beautiful today!
No need for A/C at all.
Sunset before 8 now. Sigh…
Grumble!
BTW, I meant to post this link for you earlier. Hope you enjoy the crazy mashup!

Jalapeno I am dying! This was awesome! Coincidentally I was just watching the Boogie Wonderland video last week. I can not begin to tell you how big my crush on Paul Stanley was and still is!
Thanks for the clip🤘
That video is one colossal earworm, isn’t it?
I watched a lot of strange stuff like that over the weekend.
I wish we could get a bit of “chilly” here. I’m just relieved that the high temps are staying in the 90’s now, rather than the 100’s. I’m still waiting for the first true cold front of the season. You know, the kind that drops the high temps all the way down into the 80’s.
I would love to send you some chilly! I’m not ready for it.
Not sure what kind of transitional fragrance this is but I’m happy to transition in it any time of year – Eris Delta of Venus – gorgeous guava!
I have to try my sample again but my first sniff did not elicit any feelings at all.
Guava is a great fruity note for perfume!
I’m not usually a fruity fragrance person but this is a good one, to my nose.
SOTD = YSL Black Opium 2016
So this was from a sample from one of us here. She-ra maybe? I was halfway cleaning up my desk (in my bedroom) and found 20 samples / travel sprays that could live on with enough juice to last at least 2-3 hajusuuri wearings. I mentioned yesterday that I may do a 100-day samples only project but decided that was too limiting. I’ll probably wear samples more often going forward; all I ask is that I better not fall in love with any of them which ironically means I probably shouldn’t even bother to try them. Most of them are at least a year old.
We’re now on a pleasant string of nice days which I hope means fall is here❣️
You smell good! I was pleasantly surprised by how likeable the original Black Opium is.
Smelling great!
Yes, was probably me. I got lost in some reviews that said the first vintage of Black Opium was the best and reformulation ruined it etc. 😉 We fragheads are somewhat prone to fear mongering at times…self most definitely included.
BTW will you get the Scents of Wood subscription? Cazaubon is doing and I may follow suit. ehaeheh like a good lemming 😉 but they list the scents for next year on the website and more than a few sound good and/or are gourmands.
I am not good at describing perfumes, nor have as much experience as many of you, but here are my thoughts on MI Shalimar. First of all, I have never really cared for Shalimar so wasn’t going to take the chance with this, but when I saw iris I changed my mind. That being said, on first spray I immediately smelled iris. Like Lillyjo I do not smell caramel. I could smell the Shalimar, but definitely a lighter version. I like it and would think others that have not been keen on it in the past may enjoy this version. I am not sure if my bottle leaks, but somehow got it on my hands too. I keep smelling myself to see if the caramel shows up and it hasn’t so far.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Shalimar MI! As a fellow Shali-phobe, I appreciate your perspective.
I agree that people who don’t like Shalimar might enjoy this version.
Thanks, I’m wondering which camp I’ll belong in when I finally get my bottle. 🤔
Thanks for your thoughts. I’m so fascinated by how some folks don’t get the caramel at all!
Interesting — I wanted not to smell the caramel (it’s not in the notes!) but it’s so strong on me. I do get a hint of iris early on, very close to the skin. It always fascinates me how things come out differently for different people.
Angel edp called my name this morning. It’s more Winter than Fall I suppose.
I have tomorrow off and will be seeing my Doctor. He’s been on vacation so for the last 2 weeks I have been seeing stranger Doctors. They have not been any help.
I hope that your regular doctor will be able to give you some health answers.
Hope you feel better soon and get some help from your regular doctor.
So glad you’re seeing your doctor tomorrow. I hope that talking to someone who knows you and your medical history will shed more light on what’s going on and give you some relief.
In No 19 edt for the third day in a row. It suits whatever season it is in my head, regardless of time of year.
No. 19 is always right, for sure.
You smell divine!
