The dog days of summer are behind us, and we're celebrating with our usual open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you've been thinking you're not wearing often enough, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Fragrance that I am not wearing enough? All of them LOL
This morning I went to two different stores for my son’s birthday cake. His first choice was boston cream pie and the second choice was strawberry shortcake. Well, the first store had only strawberry shortcake so I bought it. Second store had boston cream pie so I bought that too! He is so low key and never asks for anything so I figured he deserves two birthday cakes. Boys are so much easier than girls to raise LOL….a lot less drama!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
And I shout out to MossyBerry for alerting me that there is poison ivy on my neighbor’s fence! Thank you!!
Lol. My sister said that about my nephew versus my niece. Happy birthday!
haha! Over the years I have heard this from numerous sources! Thank you for the birthday wishes.
Happy Happy!
I’d choose the shortcake as well(or blackforest…yummm!)
Omg!!! Black Forest cake!!! Wow that takes me back to my childhood!!! There was a bakery in NYC that made an amazing Black Forest!! I want a slice now lol
Haha!Childhood???
I’m almost 50 and I make sure to secure a slice of it at least once a month!
We have an innercity dairyfarm/deli that makes the most ridiculous black forest cake.Crazy yumm.
I need to find a local bakery that makes it!!
Happy Birthday to your son!
Boston Cream Pie is one of my favorites. I also agree that boys are easier than girls ( generally speaking)
Thank you dear!! Seems to be the consensus!!
And I will pass you a virtual slice of cake 🍰
Happy birthday to your young one! I thought you may build a cake with the two cakes 🎂!
Now that is a great idea!!!!
Waves back with disposable gloves and my weed picker! My neighbor’s fence is my source of PI, too. PI, along with ground ivy, winter creeper, and nimblewill are my primary vegetable enemies, LOL!
I need to stop posing my bottles on there!! The hubby reacts to poison Ivy a lot but miraculously I have yet to. I wonder if certain folks are more susceptible to the rash?
Not to go on, but yes certain folks are. Also, repeated exposure is suspected to increase susceptibility.
I did not know that!
Good to know!!!
Love your first line!
Boston Cream Pie is one of my favorites. 😋 Save me a slice if there are any leftovers? You’re a good mom.
I saved you a slice!!
Happy birthday! Those desserts sound great.
Plenty to go around!! Help yourself 🎂😂😻
Happy birthday to your son! Generally I agree that a boy is easier to raise than a girl in terms of less drama — except when a boy screws up, my experience has been that safety is much more of an issue than it was with his sisters! The two cakes sound yummy.
I have always been more worried about the girls than him with safety as well lol. I guess everyone’s parenting experience is different. But I know over the years the majority of my friends and coworkers have said that girls are more challenging than boys. He’s a great kid, has a super work ethic, is quiet and low key and doesn’t ask for anything… and always makes me proud. I’m truly blessed.
And the cakes are indeed yummy!!!!
Ha! Forgot my scent of the day! L T Piver’s A La Rein des Fleurs which reminds me of a combo of 4711 and Old Spice…starts off citrus and dries down to a gorgeous clove! This was the bottle that I bought for 23 dollars for 14.25 oz. I made huge decants for my parents and friends so , suprisingly, it’s dwindling away. I keep it in the fridge so it’s really refreshing on a hot day.
I am trying to imagine 4711 + Old Spice…sounds interesting!
Picture a citrus and herbal opening with a carnation and clove dry down. It has decent longevity even on my skin.
I’m interested in trying more from this line before the new owner repackages and raises prices.
Ooh, that sounds great! I love Old Spice.
You need to try some of the LTPiver!! Heliotrope Blanc is amazing too!! I bought them both, very large size bottles (14.25oz) because I am worried the new owner wants to revamp the line and up the prices.
As they do!
Sadly yes
SOTM is a dab of SSS Incense Pure to round out incense week. The weather here is heating up to horrendous levels in the next several days, and I am not happy about it. Trying to get all the “warm” activities (laundry, cooking) out of the way early today while it’s still relatively cool, and reminding myself that there are a lot of folks way worse off than I am so quit whining. 🤨
Whereas in Northern Mass it is darned cold at night! Am currently huddled under several blankets.
Good luck staying cool SheriG.
Thanks! I’m envious of the chill where you are.
I think the dog days are still hanging around out this way. Forecast 106F Monday. Ugh. I cannot express how much I hate this weather and all the suffering it’s causing around the world without using atrocious language…🫢
I was so busy yesterday I forgot perfume and posting! Unheard of! But, I did enjoy some box of eels before heading to work. Off to the land of nod now, faintly trailing pumpkin spice latte from my sugar scrub this morning.
Robin, I hope you’re able to relax, unwind and dive into some zen at the lake. Stretch out on a paddle board or what have you, close you eyes, let the sun melt your muscles and bones, and the gentle waves hypnotize you with their slow motions. 🌅
Oh my… your advice to Robin just sent me into a zoned out moment…
Me too — maybe Deva’s next career should be hypnotherapy. 😆
Wow Deva, you and the pup have really had some terrible weather weeks. I hate heat, no surprise there.
Robin, I am with Deva and others wishing you some opportunity to
fully embrace time with your sister during this year like no other for you and your son.
SOTD will be Fenty for grocery shopping and a mani pedi later.
I am writing my list of what to get at duty free in Paris so I actually get what I want and have current pricing. I have two bottles on list right now. Box of Eels and Gris Dior.
Be on the lookout for some new Guerlain releases. I’ve had confirmation of a millesime Iris and there is one other release for September, but I forgot the name.
We did several stints on the paddleboards today, it was lovely!
Then after dinner the power went out. We decided to take the dog for a walk while it was still light outside, got out on the deck and a bear wandered through the yard and up the driveway! I have always heard there are bears here but that they are rarely seen, and not only have I never seen one in all the summers I’ve been coming here, neither has my sister who is usually here all summer long. At any rate, that was the end of that idea, in fact I may stay inside the rest of my visit 😉
Anyway, that was my excitement for the day. Power finally back on, at least for that.
106 is just crazy.
Wow! What a day! Glad the power came back on. And how exciting to see a bear! 🐻
Wow, that bear was close! I’ve seen them in Montana but from a distance.
I woke up this morning and discovered that I had somehow turned 60, which was kind of a shock. But at least I got (myself) a birthday present, a couple of CSPs — a backup of Vanille Abricot (which, to my relief, doesn’t smell materially different from my old bottle) and the delightfully cartoony Vanille Banane.
Robin, you wondered how they might smell layered, and the answer is: pretty good! The VA takes away some of the exaggerated banana-aldehyde quality of the VB, and together they’re extremely pleasant: I’ll probably always wear the VB stacked with VA. And the li’l 30-mL bottles are charming miniaturized versions of the 100-mL. All in all, a win.
The Lush finally opened its doors and holy cow the smell. It’s about 100 feet away from one of the mall’s main entrances and I swear I could smell it outside with the doors closed. It was of course a mob scene so I didn’t bother.
Happy birthday!
I’m trying to imagine a mall where Lush and Bath and Body Works are next to each other.
AND there’s a Sephora not that far from those two. It’s a real miasma. At least the Victoria’s Secret across from the B&BW closed down.
Well, I have a mall near me that has Lush, B&BW and Sephora within anemic spitting distance of each other 🤣
All you need is a Yankee Candle Store for an immersive experience.
I was just going to add that, lol!
There’s one not far from the olfactory cluster!
🥳Happiest of Birthdays to you!
In 3 years I’ll be 50!Scary thought but somehow I am at peace with aging!🤗
Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday, youngster!!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, pyramus! You smell wonderful!
Happy birthday, Pyramus!
Happy birthday, have a wonderful, special day.
Happy birthday! I’m just a couple of months behind you 🙂
Happy Birthday, Pyramus! 🎂
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Best wishes for a happy day! I those next-decade birthdays…
“like”
Happy Birthday, pyramus! Nice that you were able to get a couple of bottles that make you happy❣️
Happy birthday! You smell great.
What?! 60 is the new 30, didn’t you know? 😉 Happy Birthday to you! 🎂
Happy birthday pyramus!!
And thank you for the report, I think i’ll have to go buy some VA.
Happy birthday! And you smell great!
So, you get an enabler pin because I finally pulled the trigger on a few CSP perfumes I’ve been hemming and hawing about. I’ve been really attracted to those little 10ml travel sizes, so I scooped up four of them with a 15% discount (which basically pays for the shipping in my case) with the code MOBILE15. I’m spending my way through my summer slump 💸
Happy Birthday!
You are smelling great, happy birthday!
Happiest Birthday of them all!
I still have incense to wear. Today it’s Etro Messe de Minuit.
I haven’t worn L’Artisan Seville l’Aube enough this summer, it’s generally my summer staple and I have been craving it. Maybe tomorrow.
Gosh, and did anyone wear MdM all week? It used to be so popular!
I had it on my list for incense week but ran out of time. I love incense in perfume but I was kind of surprised by how many incense perfumes I have. I could do an incense month!
D’oh! moment – I totally forgot that, and I have my bottle all because a lovely NST’er sent me a decant and my lemming followed up just in time!
Thunking the delightful deluxe sample of Absinthe Gaiac today. This is completely fb worthy and on my list(from the somewhat resurrected house of Panouge)
Spring is in the air and I cannot wait for longer days and hot afternoons!I’m a true african summer boy.
XO’s✌🏻🤗🇿🇦🌹
Woot on the thunk! I need to get motivated to thunk some of my bottles
And then sometimes “thunk-regret” sets in…I’ve been craving Rabanne Mētal lately, wish I kept a few mls of that one as it’s unobtainable now!
There’s a place in Ontario that has quite a bit of Métàl — EDT, parfum, soap, and more besides. https://enchanteperfumes.com/metal.html
I ordered some vintage things from them last year and was overall very pleased: I got a spray parfum of La Nuit de Paco Rabanne which is one of my most treasured possessions. (The box was banged up to hell and back but the contents were perfectly preserved.) It wasn’t their fault that one of the scents (from the seventies) had gone unwearably haywire: they can’t know these things, and it’s a risk I knew I was taking.
Thanks for the headsup!🙌🏻🙌🏻🤗
I loved and wore Metal in the 80s!! Yes it’s very hard to obtain. But think about all the other lovelies in your collection.
True.Haha!🙈🙈
I actually do have a question as well:
I’d like to hear from you guys some “holy grail” recommendations. You can tell me the perfume and why it’s in your holy grail cabinet/wishlist…I’m trying to get to the best of the best in my collection, and I’m pretty much done with what Perfumes The Guide had to offer.Aaaand go!🙌🏻🙌🏻
J B I have also been trying to obtain some of what I consider the best perfumes. I just can not wear most of the new offerings. I am currently on the hunt for Gucci Accenti, D&G Sicily, Gucci Envy, SL Daim Blonde, TF Sahara Noir and Fleur de Chine. Dior Pure Poison.
I recently acquired Knowing, Cinnabar and original Dior Addict. Oh, also looking for Givenchy Eau de Givenchy and EL Dazzling Gold. TM Alien Sapphire. So many! Lol.
The original Herrera for men is fabulous! It’s very distinguished gentlemen.
Also original Fendi! Lol
Omg!! I loved Herrera for Men!!
Fabulous list!I hope you get to most of them eventually!
My HGs are often vintage so I don’t know if that’s helpful or not. Vintage Chanel Coco edt is my biggest HG and I thunked my backup bottle last weekend, so on to my second (and last) backup bottle. I love it so much.
Will you hunt for another bub then?
I have searches saved in a few places 😉
I don’t think I have any real surprises or newcomers for the holy grail cabinet. Mine is 31, rue Cambon (go-to professional fragrance, which also works in just about any context), Jubilation 25 (my date night perfume), Tauer LADDM (no particular reason except that it’s lovely), Azemour (same). I’m oscillating between Iris Silver Mist and La Curie Ossuary as my holy grail iris, but am probably leaning more towards the latter these days. My rose HG changes based on the day, but probably would have to have Lyric, Phi, Fille de Berlin, Lipstick Rose. Also Kyoto and Avignon for incense.
I need to try the Ossuary,it sounds really lovely!Love your list,we have a lot of perfumes in common!
31 RC is beautiful.
🌹🤗
My biggest unobtainable are Hermes Doblis, and TF De Profundis in the original bell jar formulation. Those are closely followed by vintage Caron Tabac Blond in almost any formulation, and Dior Cuir Cannage.
I’m also bummed I missed out on Cuir Cannage when it just came out.I remember I had forced myself to choose between Lipstick Rose and Cuir Cannage, ended up with the Lipstick Rose!
I too am lusting after an original bell jar of De Profundis.
Doblis! Aah, the one that I could possibly have bought and didn’t. I don’t think of it often, but I still regret it. That bottle was gorgeous, too.
JB, if you like roses, my HG rose is Profumum’s Rose Mundi. It’s basically a rose/patch combo, so would say in unisex territory. I know that combo is way overdone, but this one is very high quality. I would wear it all the time if I didn’t have so many others calling for my attention! By the way, they sell lovely travel sizes. 😉
Wonderful,thank you!On the list it goes!🌹🤗
OG Borneo 1834. *Would* it have been my holy grail patchouli? I’ll never know, but I will get around to trying the current version one of these days.
My theoretical holy grail is original Chanel No.5 with the nitro musks that have since been banned. I don’t know if I need to have it, just smell it.
Ditto real ambergris. I just want to smell it.
38 days till I get to Africa to see the sun set over the acacia trees.
Yes to that! It’ll be late spring/early summer then so you’ll have the perfect sunsets!!🥳🥳
Hopefully, giraffes will be there!
Just showered with my my Olay strawberry body wash. Yum. Sprayed on Fiori di Capri because I haven’t worn it much this summer. I think there is something in it that triggers a memory of a scent from days long past, but I can’t think what. But there’s something familiar and soothing about it.
Dames at Sea was a hoot – a bit of a parody of musicals. Lead ingenue had Broadway-level voice and charm. Some of the roles have to be a huge kick to play for the actors. One song had us all laughing. To top it off, a brief thunderstorm passed by during the first act. Since the sides to the venue are open, the rumbles and the brief torrential downpour added to the experience.
Sounds like Dames at sea was a blast!
I had the Olay strawberry soap bars last summer… so good!!
Fiori di Capri is beautiful and you’ve reminded me that it has been too long since I wore it. Dames at Sea sounds hilarious!
I’m wearing SMN Acqua di Colonia; it’s supposed to warm up here and it was easy to find in the box.
Ockeghem Teen is home from camp full of stories, and with a long list of new numbers to text. Apparently she and two other camp friends have already worked out that they are going to video chat while playing specific video games today. The kids live downtown, probably 15 minutes away, and they could all get together and play, but that would defeat the purpose, you see, as they want to play different games simultaneously. Life is different now than it used to be!
I was so hoping that I’d have a working toilet in the master bath this weekend, but it was not to be. The contractor thought he’d be pretty much done yesterday and would move on to his next job while the glass and cabinet people come in, but apparently the floor tiles we are using are too small and take too long. I think it’s just two more days of work, but he’s got to split his time between jobs next week. Sigh. Once it’s done, it will be lovely. And having to use Ockeghem Teen’s washroom all this time — the one where she demanded a Japanese toilet seat — is making me think we’ll need to put one in the master bath soon, too.
Well drat, so sorry it is not done!
But glad camp worked out well.
I feel your pain re toilets and repairs! Fingers crossed that yours is done soon. We just (finally) got four old vintage fixtures, which are original, reglazed after our major bathroom repairs over the last 2-3 years. Everything finally looks and works great! I wish the same for you.
With respect no way are the dog days behind us, cause I had a couple of big projects at work and haven’t had vacation time yet. Plus weather here has been cold and dark. Not complaining-just saying’ 🙂
I think I’ll wear Prada Amber scent today-found it at Winners for my 40th birthday. That was ten years ago. Makes a girl think lol. But it’s just a pretty fragrance, and sometimes it sort of disappears on me, then I catch traces of it later. Its subtlety makes me happy. I’m looking at all the fall collections of makeup on youtube-I find that so relaxing. I think the new Prada makeup is intriguing. I’d like to try a lipstick, once they’re in Canada. I don’t have much time in the mornings for makeup-usually just moisturizer, primer, mascara and some lipstick. I miss the days when I had the time to look a bit more pulled together for work.
Hope everyone’s weekend is relaxing, what ever that means to you. I’m trying to get moving but I’m online looking at makeup and reading about scents lol. Gotta pull myself together and get some blood flowing, I think.
I never even knew until recently that the “dog days” had an official end date…this year, 8/11. Agree it does not always match reality!
I hope somewhere in that daily routine you have a sunscreen that you just forgot to mention same as a perfume – just because both go without saying 😉
Yes, I do wear sunscreen-face, neck, ear, and the backs of my hands 🙂 But not in the dead of winter cause it’s tough enough getting vitamin D.
I would like to thank all of you for your condolences messages, words of support and thoughts a week ago when my mother passed away. The burial was on Thursday. It has been a very tough week for my sisters and me, but we have been surrounded by the company and love of friends and family members. In my case it has been harder, since she lived with me, but time and God will help me overcome the emptiness and the sadness that is dwelling in me right now. I am back to work on Monday and I hope getting back slowly to a routine makes me feel better.
SOTD is a spritz of Dana Tabu, my mother’s signature scent.
I am spending the weekend doing deep cleaning in my apartment, cooking and catching up on NST comments later.
Happy weekend, everyone! 🌻
I’m glad the week is behind you. Please be kind to yourself, pl67, while you are moving to a different routine. You smell wonderful in Tabu.
Thank you, Ringthing. 🌻
I’m glad you have some family support pl67. Hopefully going back to work will be helpful. I hope that any projects aren’t too stressful. 🌻
Fingers crossed, I can manage the amount of work is waiting for me without much effort. 🤞
I’m glad you are trying to get back to a more normal routine. I’m glad you have support.
Thank you, Hajusuuri! I am sure keeping my mind busy will be of great help.
I’m glad that you are surrounded by love and support. Sending mine💕🌸
Thank you, Allo. I deeply appreciate it. 🌻
Hope the wonderful scent of Tabu can bring some comfort to you, it’s a grand perfume.
Thank you, Aurora. I am appreciating Tabu more now. It will try to wear it more often. 🌻
Good to see you!
And I’m glad you can somewhat return to “new normal”.
Sending hugs!
🌹🤗
Thank you, J B. Hugs back. 🌻
I was very sorry to read about your mother, I’m glad you have family and friends around you.
Thank you, Gaynor. 🌻
I’m glad you’ve been surrounded by friends and family. Be kind with yourself and take it easy.
Thank you, Gail. 🌻
I’ll be hoping for a soft landing for you at work. I love that beautiful Tabu is a scent memory for you.
Thank you, MossyBerry! 🌻
Sending hugs and hoping your work colleagues will be gentle with you.
Thank you, Cazaubon.
I was just thinking about you; so glad to see you back. Tabu is so pretty, isn’t it? I hope it feels like a hug for you, and that the help of family and friends has been a blessing.
Thank you, AnnE. Tabu is giving me lots of comfort right now. I may not wear it for work, but it is going to be a bedtime scent for a while.
Nice. 🩷
Happy to see you posting today! Big hugs to you! T-Rex sends a gentle “woof!”
Thank you, Deva. Hugs back to you and pats to T-Rex 🌻
Thinking of you pl67. Glad you are cleaning and glad you will get back to work, distraction helps more than no distraction.
Thank you, Robin.
I hope the funeral turned out as you and your family wanted and brought you some comfort. The loss of a mother is huge, especially as you had her with you and did so much for her care. I love that you wore her scent, such a nice way to remember her.
Thank you, Old Herbaceous.
I’m sorry for your loss, PL67. Get distracted if it helps. Or concentrate on your feelings if that is what comes naturally. No rules – just one day at a time. Hugs.
Thank you, Undina.
PL67, I am so sorry. I hope the funeral was beautiful and as special as you wanted. I’m so sorry.
Wishing you all the strength in the world.
Thank you, Annie! 🌻

I promised myself to do at least one thing everyday (perhaps with the exclusion of weekends) that will change something (in my life because I admit to being selfish for myself). Today, I was going to unsubscribe to the Wall Street Journal and Barrons but instead of “saving” $17.99 and $38.99 monthly, I ended up extending my subscription to both with an offer for $52 per year for each. There was no way to get my $s back even though I’m sure if I made a big enough stink I could but having access to both at a favorable subscription price is just as good.
In The NY Times, I read about the popularity of very limited edition flavorless candy. Would you try it? I am curious myself!
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/11/world/asia/japan-flavorless-candy-lawsons.html
(This is behind a pay wall so if you encounter it, you may have to McGyver it and I really couldn’t help you with that.)
Interesting article, thank you, I would be curious to try it as a novelty item.
Me too!
I would not want to try flavorless candy.
I think it will taste of nothing but may quench mouth dryness which I don’t suffer from but one never knows.
Yes I would try flavorless candy! In other candy news, at a local farmer’s market today, a young couple was there with their business idea: freeze-dried candy. There were marshmallows (this is what Lucky Charms are) but also Skittles, and other sour candies I was not familiar with. I got some of the marshmallows and will throw them on some Cheerios. I really just got them because the couple was so nice. Anymore, I just eat dark chocolate for sweets.
How about freeze-dried dark chocolate? 🤣
I have zero interest in flavorless candy. What is the point?
It is supposed to combat dry mouth but it’s one of those things that I will probably want to try just to try.
For some reason, I felt good that you didn’t unsubscribe the WSJ (now you have to tell me how you managed to get that price because I don’t want to renew it at the full price but won’t want to lose it either).
I just told the CSR that I would like to unsubscribe and ask for a prorated refund. They do want to retain you so the “introductory” price is very attractive. For year 2, the rate more than quadruples which means I will call to unsubscribe before year 1 ends to see what kind of deal I can get.
Can’t McGuyver, but I eat a lot of sugar and there’s no way candy candy is going to be tasteless.
You are self-less.
How do all the nice people not know this?
Sprayed quite a lot of I Profumi Di Firenze Arancio Di Sicilia on top of LVEB Iris Absolu and this combo smells great as on its own IA is on the sweet side. Tonight it’s AG Encens Flamboyant, perhaps my favorite incense.
IA is very sweet. I want to try the Oud one when it comes out too.
It turned out lovely with thevorange scent, I didn’t know about the oud flanker, thanks.
*the orange
You smell wonderful.
Thank you Cazaubon, it’s an almost mystical scent.
I’m still sitting on the couch on a lazy Sunday morning. I have things to do, and I’ll get on to them eventually.
It’s cold, but not as cold as recent days, yesterday was one of those days where the heater had very little effect in warming the room all day. I think Bengale Rouge will be a good warming perfume for the day.
Love Bengale Rouge! Looking forward to fall/winter to wear it again.
Bengale Rouge is gorgeous! Enjoy!
I miss my cold weather to wear it – such a beauty! Enjoy it!
Wearing 34 boulevard Saint Germain Eau de Parfum today. I love this and its EdT sibling.
You’re smelling wonderful! This is one of my favorites as well.
😊
Progress today, I got dressed instead of wearing my nightgown and robe and did a few chores. I do feel much better than the past few days. I’m wearing TF Fleur de Chine.
Don’t over do it. You smell beautiful.
2nd that!
Glad you are feeling better!
Glad you’re feeling better! Naps with your cats are great when you’re recovering from an illness. 🐱
If only! Bertie Wooster purrs in my ear, Scout sits on my chest and wants to be petted, and Dapper chews on my hair. I had to banish them from the bedroom to get a nap. 🙂
Yeah, same here. Ocean chews my hair and prowls above my head. No help when I’m sick!
FdC is beautiful! Ease into the normal routine.
Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Clouds today.
Yesterday there was a praying mantis in the garage; not sure how it got in there. My hubby held out the flyswatter so the praying mantis could climb aboard! He apparently walked on like he knew he was being helped, and was safely put on a plant outside. Never seen one up here before.
I think that means good luck for you!
I hope so! Thank you!
They are amazing creatures – did you look him in the eyes? You can see them looking at you. And you know, it’s because they are assessing you as a possible meal…
Haha! No! My hubby saw him and dealt with it. I wasn’t sure what it was; he said he found a bug, and did I want to look at it! Umm, no!
He took a picture once it was on the plant. They are pretty cool!
You smell fantastic.
Thank you! It’s such a great one.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you! I may have to reapply it today😊
You smell great — I love Clouds. A praying mantis in your garden is a wonderful help to control destructive bugs, let’s hope s/he makes a home there.
Thank you! Clouds is lovely!
I read that they eat crickets and noticed them chirping at night here (just recently) so there should be a good food supply around. I hope it does make a home here.
Hello everyone! I’m in a good mood today despite the continuing heat. I went to two favorite jewelry stores with a good friend who has a fellow August birthday–both stores have a discount in your birthday month. I bought some pretty little diamond butterfly earrings in one store and she bought a very nice small emerald ring in the other one! We are such frequent shoppers there that the store owners greet us and we get a lot of attention and just plain have fun when we go in there.
I’m wearing Delina today and feeling “pretty” which isn’t quite my normal mode but hey, I’ll just enjoy it. And later on I’ll be going out for Tex-Mex dinner with one of my favorite older students and his wife, who live in Chicago but are in town for the weekend to see various friends. It’s kind of shocking when your students are in their 50s….. wow I must be old!
You do smell pretty, and Happy Birthday to you and your friend! I’m sure you look pretty as well in your new earrings. 🦋 Jewelry stores are second only to perfume stores for having fun!
Yeah, Mr. Ockeghem as well is having to get used to having ex-students in their 40s. (To be fair, the one I’m thinking of was finishing undergrad just as he started and then went off to study with his mentor for her Ph.D.) That said, the way the humanities are going at least at his school, he won’t have any Ph.D. students graduating for the rest of his career. (He has one Ph.D. student now, who’s been around for a decade, but she’s unlikely to graduate as she has a performance career and isn’t all that devoted to her dissertation.) There just…aren’t…any Ph.D. applicants any more, at least in his discipline, I guess because it’s not STEM.
Ugh! I am a STEM/ medicine person myself and I find it tragic that art and humanities and history are not valued. If anything, our world needs more of this, not less. I understand the need to find employment so I guess that determines some of this.
Happy birthday!! Seem to be a lot of August birthdays being celebrated here 🎂🩵🍰😻🐈🩵
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Calypso!
I think I am not wearing Samsara enough. Had a fun day with my friend who lives in the country. Drove out to her house with my windows down (but the AC on) and heard the singing of the grasshoppers in the lush fields. Tall corn and lush soybeans waived at me as I drove along. We drove from her house and went to the town center for a farmer’s market. The amateur band was having a lot of fun and I got a watermelon. SotD was Imari lotion topped off with some OG Imari which gave me a very nice galbanum waft. It matched the green, green countryside.
Sounds like a quintessential summer day
Imari is gorgeous! You smelled great! I need to revisit some of those Avons I wore in the 70s and 80s. Sounds like a perfect day, MossyBerry!!
I’ve been thinking of revisiting Avon too.
Also.. do you ever sleep?! I’m looking at your timestamp. Lol
Ummm… no! Lol! Between my work and my three feline grandchildren sleep alludes me!
Avon had so many AMAZING fragrances back in the day!! And some top noche perfumers!! I always say that you really can smell great on a budget!!
FYI, I am trying some of their LYRD Artisan scents. Will report on Cherry Vetiver, Cannabis Oud, and Santal Musk in due time.
@MossyBerry- yes please report back!!
Quite a while back someone on nst recommended Gillette gel antiperspirant, particularly the one with a cedar note to it. It was probably called something like Manly Forest, not that it matters since it disappeared a year later. Since the brand worked well I kept trying to find the least loudly dude of their scents (*not* Cool Wave, trust me) and the latest seems not bad: Fresh Amber.
Keeping Fresh this warm day,
Glad you found one that worked, and fingers crossed they don’t discontinue it!
Another round of Lys du Désert for me tonight. More rain! It’s been a most unusual summer especially the last month, with cooler temps and lots of rain. I am loving it. Sure beats the usual blast furnace.
I got caught in a tremendous bucket of rain as I was wheeling my cart from Whole Foods to my car.
I am shocked at your ability to stick with the same fragrance for so long!! Are you making progress towards thunk?
It is discouragingly slow. I’m still at 70mls…
Eek!! Time for Brigitte style spraying!! 32 sprays three times a day lol
My husband is already complaining about my 22 sprays. LOL!
Ahaha!!!
Go crazy when he’s out of the house 😝😂😜
Jealous of your rain & cool weather! I can’t remember our last rainfall.
It’s been cool all July on this side of the pond too, all the lawns are green, like you I rather enjoy it. 22 sprays should put a dent in that bottle.
Today’s scent was Eau Rose EdT, which I’ve worn a lot this summer. This evening I tried the EdP version, which I found for a good price (travel size.). Verdict? Surprise, surprise, I love it as well!
Forgot to add: Diptyque.
Yay for doubling your smelling fun!
Double your pleasure,
Double your fun! 🎶
Eau Rose is lovely — have you tried the hair mist? It is beautiful.
Funny you should ask! 😁
Yes, I have that, too, and I use it often.
Many of the scents I wear contain a rose note, so it’s pretty much all-purpose for me. I’ll probably thunk this faster than anything else.
I like the edp best. 🙂
I have a question: Does anyone who knows the scent of Lush’s Revive hair moisturizer (formerly known as R&B), have ideas for similar fragrances? It’s a beautiful orange blossom and jasmine scent that I haven’t smelled elsewhere. I wish that Lush made it in a perfume.
It has a tuberose feel to me, too. I’ll think on this one. It has reminded me of some. There was a Mandy Aftel from years ago, but, I’ll think.
Sounds like most people are having a good weekend so far! I decided to work through all my summer fav’s since it could cool off at any time, I might might feel switching to my denser winter list! SOTD, Fiori de Capri! I really like this! I went to the Kohl’s here in town which just opened up a little Sephora outlet, and they had the new Tom Ford Cafe Rose!
Unfortunately I found the rose part screechy and sour at the same time, with an over dose of coffee with cheap whiskey in it, and a lot of tobacco, which is not listed in the notes at all. I found it loud, weirdly masculine, with one of those anonymous “fresh” overtones which did not make the rose smell pretty, the whiskey smell mellow, or the tobacco smell healthy. Overall, an unpleasant disappointment! I will be interest to know if someone else has a more positive reaction, but I really did not like this at all.
Oh well, money saved. The bottle is pretty.
Hmm. I won’t go to Sephora specifically to try it, I think. Café Rose sounded like a possible match for me, but based on your sampling I’m not going out of my way. I have to say that I’ve tried a few Tom Fords and have never warmed to any of them. (This is probably just me, I know other people love them. I probably just haven’t found the right one of so many yet.)
I tried it yesterday and I honestly hated it. I mostly got a weird plastic chemical rose. I had a decant of the original before and I don’t recall it smelling the same. I will test it again though.
It has been a big weekend in the Herbaceous household! Retirement continues to suit me, two weeks in. My husband and I went out for casual dinner and dancing on Friday for the first time in FOREVER. It was an evening organized by our son and his friends as a send-off before they all scatter back to their college campuses, with their parents. So much fun! Has anyone else noticed that college kids claim to love so much current music that I find unlistenable, but what gets them out on the dance floor are all the tunes from the 1980s?
Yesterday, I had a staged reading of a ten-minute play I wrote this summer, through a local theatre, with other writers. I hope to write more now that my time is my own.
Right now, though, I’m focused on tidying up both house and garden for the retirement party my kids are throwing for me in two weeks. It’s a good prompt to get to some long-neglected household tasks. Garden tasks are complicated by the now-daily thunderstorms we’ve been having.
Happy weekend, everyone — I hope your Sunday is pleasant.
Enjoy your retirement!!!
Congrats on your retirement, and on your play! Sounds like you’re enjoying being retired already! 🎉💃📖🌻
Hooray for your retirement! Have fun with your family!
How fun! Very cool about your play writing, too.
I kept forgetting to check in yesterday but wore Coco Mademoiselle. Going to a summer party a little later and debating on either Jicky edp or Theorema. I don’t go back to work until Wednesday but it’s some kind of appointment I have to do Monday and Tuesday.
Hope you enjoyed the party Dawn! I’m sure you smelled great whichever of those you picked.
Hot and humid here. I decided to pull out all the stops and go tropical: PMC Ylang Ylang layered with Chantecaille Tiare.
Pulling out all the stops is my favorite part of perfumania!!
😅 It sure is fun occasionally!
I’m having a jasmine interlude with Jasmin Bonheur.
SOTD is Yog Nog.
Hope everyone who needs mending gets that and wish for others with an abundance of joy to overflow with it.
Love to all.
Out of my comfort zone today with Afnan Mirsaal with Love. After so much time on FragranceNet, I could not help but become curious about Armaf, Afnan, Lattafa, Rasasi and some of the other similar brands from UAE, etc. I confess a fascination with the 100ml, blingy bottles, though I am now on “Team Travel Spray.” I guess many of these are considered clones. My reaction after reading reviews (and getting over the rampaging opening) is that Mirsaal is a Boss Lady perfume, and for my part, I’d rather have No. 19 in that slot. But I can’t say I dislike it. Has anyone else given it a sniff?
Like you I have been eyeballing those brands on fragrancenet too but haven’t gone for a blind buy….yet😄
Wrapping up my weekend. Worked most of it. Whether here so unbearably hot, I might as well be inside. I am really worried about the trees dying.
Gentle Fluidity Gold.
