It's Friday and the last day of June. (Don’t forget to rabbit tomorrow.) Also, Asteroid Day and Lena Horne’s birthday. Our community project for today: we're off to Germany. Wear a perfume by a German brand (Escada? Hugo Boss? Jil Sander? Mäurer & Wirtz / 4711?) or named for a place in Germany, or that you bought in Germany, or whatever you can think of to fit the theme. Suggested by ockeghem and voted for by carole and chocolatemarzipan8.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Ormonde Jayne Champaca.
Reminder: 7/7 is World Chocolate Day, and shockingly enough, we've never done a chocolate project (I don't think, anyway). Wear a perfume with a chocolate note, with bonus credit if chocolate (or something related to chocolate) is in the name. If you don't have a perfume with a chocolate note, partial credit for wearing something with a note you like to eat with chocolate.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I managed to find a sample of Ormonde Jayne Sakura for today. It’s hot and smoky here, hoping we will get a cooling rain tomorrow.
Oh, and I am definitely wearing 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop next Friday! Best chocolate scent ever.
I haven’t tried that one, so far Akro Dark is my favourite chocolate scent.
I just smelled that yesterday for the first time on our sniffing venture with nancyleandros and Oakland Fresca! It’s deep and delicious!
hmmmm
must…investigate…soon.
Ditto on the smoke, ditto on the Saturday rain!
Bear with me here…. I’m unaware of any German scents or scents with German names or places in my possession. Not even a sample of Une Fille de Berlin.
So…I’m wearing Jo Malone Tangy Rhubarb for my maternal grandmother who was, you guessed it, German. I grew up on the German food my mom learned to cook. But…my most direct food connection to my grandma was her Rhubarb Crisp. She grew Rhubarb in her Wisconsin backyard. She made it for me (and everyone else, but I prefer to think primarily for me) every time we visited her and every time she visited us. (Thankfully, my mom also made it.) I still have the hand-written recipe. It is unsullied by adding strawberries. Just the rhubarb , ma’am.
It’s a great scent. Thanks Jo.
My Germand grandma and my mother did the same! 🙂 She had a huge garden in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where she grew her own rhubarb. We even had a plant in California. My mom would eat the stalks raw, dipped in sugar.
I had NO idea that you had German in your blood!
Quite a lot actually – my father’s mother was Austrian.
Love rhubarb crisp! I’ve always had rhubarb in the yard. Can’t eat it now because it needs so much sugar to be palatable.
I love rhubarb and have never quite understood why it is so often “sullied” by strawberries. Tart fruit makes the best desserts (plums being another favorite.)
How is the perfume?
I love it both sullied and unsullied, but straight-up rhubarb is heavenly. Our favorite around here is a rhubarb galette.
I have Tangy Rhubarb. Those Summer Fete collection bottles from a couple years back were cute. I will wear it today.
I love rhubarb as well, although mine is sullied by 🍓 🍓🍓.
My German grandmother was straight rhubarb. My Irish grandmother was apples or strawberry. Luckily, my dad liked any kind of pie:)
SOTD is Ingenious Ginger.
Four days off – yippeee
I have yet to wear mine!
I ❤️ your story and am so glad you still have your grandma’s hand-written recipe – that’s priceless! I have a couple of my mom’s and one of my dad’s and I treasure them. Seeing their handwriting brings me closer to them, they’ve been gone many years.
I have my mom’s cookbooks from WWII when Victory gardens were planted. The handwriting is something I treasure also.
Oh yes, those handwritten recipes that are handed down within the family for several generation really ARE something quite special.
German heritage here, too. But rhubarb was a big NOPE for me growing up. No one ever seemed to cook with it. And the one time I tried it raw was the last time I did that!
I’m wearing the one and only Rockin’Rio by Escada. Purchased before I became a serious perfumista. I admit I still enjoy it a lot. I wasn’t even aware that the brand was German. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
The part of the Mosel near Cochem is stunning, I’ve done some exploring in the area since I moved to Luxembourg.
HOUSE TWIN
It looks gorgeous in pictures! I have spent about 24 hours in Germany total, I wish I could go now.
The first bottle version of Rockin’ Rio was so much prettier than the second one.
Today for Germany day 5 I’m in Knize Ten, which is not actually German but Austrian — near enough, I would say, although I bet lots of people would disagree. But I *did* buy it in Germany — in Hamburg, at a small perfumery I’m not going to name, because it was so off-putting, the owner sitting at a counter and (I assume) his wife looming like a henge, as Malory Archer would say. I couldn’t shop properly with her hovering and the shop was very small, but I saw the Knize Ten and the price was right so I snapped it up and got out of there.
Knize Ten is such a great leather, a bit medicinal at the top and richly floral in the middle. It’s yet another one of those things I sort of have to be in the mood for — I wouldn’t want it every day, or even most days — but every time I do wear it I remember how terrific it is.
Knize Ten is fab. I always kick myself for not having any when someone mentions it.
Sounds like the purchase circumstances aren’t a pleasant memory. You smell delish nonetheless.
The tiniest dab of Une Fille de Berlin!! 🥀
It the temperature keeps rising, I’ll spritz some 4711 later! 🍋
Well played with the CP!
Hello all!
I’m in Sun Moon Stars by legendary German designer Karl Lagerfeld, though honestly the less said about him the better. This stuff is so lovely. Every time I wear it I fall in love again. It was recently reissued by a company that brings back cult classics and I have both an OG bottle and the newer one. They smell so similar, I wear the newer bottle more. No affiliation of course.
Had my last exams this week. One more day of classes and a boatload of homework that I’ve put off and we’re off to exams. Then off to Iceland!
Have a great day everyone.
You smell great. I’ve always liked that bottle.
A cult classic for sure!
Wow! So I could wear original Chloe (I have a vintage bottle from the late 70s) tonight 🙂 )
Absolutely! Such a fun one.
What another interesting take on the theme! Which almost raises the question, whether there actually exists a scent that ISN’T connected to Germany in some way 😉
I won’t tell if you won’t! 😉
😄
Wow! So I could wear original Chloe (I have a vintage bottle from the late 70s) tonight 🙂 )
Good to know about the new version of Sun Moon and Stars!
Definitely worth a sniff.
I’m so glad you have your trip to a cool place to look forward to after this amazing grind you’ve been through in all of your coursework this summer. Congratulations on being near the end of it!
Yes the timing was great! I almost didn’t get to take classes but figured out I would just barely make it. I’ve taken 10 credit hours in 8 weeks Lord help me. 🫠
I forgot about Sun Moon Stars! I have a vintage bottle I bought years ago and haven’t worn in ages though I really liked it. Must pull it out soon!
Oh lucky! Enjoy it in good health.
Oh wow, I loved that one, glad to hear it’s back and in good condition.
I would love to hear someone else’s thoughts on it but I was really impressed. I thought it was a fake at first!
I’m in the original 4711 cologne. I’ve had the bottle since the 90’s. I lived 7 of the first 10 years of my life in Germany. I’m 65 now, and the 4711 really reminds me of my childhood.
same….4711 is the fragrance I MOST associate with my childhood…
Wishing you happy memories!
I chose Prada La Femme for the CP. The perfumer for it was Daniela Andrier, one of my favorites, and she is German (to my surprise). La Femme is really beautiful, but it’s suited more for an evening soirée than for blurry eyed morning coffee. Oh well! Stayed up way past my bedtime last night, and probably will have to again tonight, and am grumpy about it so I’m trying to absorb the morning quiet while I can.
Oh my, another perfume I did not know was German. Great call!
I’m wearing La Fille de Berlin. I’ll be out in the heat later today and will probably switch to Un Jardin Sur le Nil. Happy Friday everyone.
Happy Friday ringthing!
I chose “Veilchen” by Harry Lehmann:
– It’s by a German brand that was based in Berlin (unfortunately the owner died unexpectedly about a year ago and it seems that the company is in the process of being liquidated).
– Their modus operandi was to sell perfume by the millilitre, i. e. you basically either turned up at their shop with whatever bottle you wanted or you chose of their bottle options (all of them pharmacy-style btw. to create as little expense as possible for things other than the actual juice) and then had it filled with one (or even, instead of layering, a personalized mixture) of their perfumes. This meant that, since their product was basically just the liquid, they didn’t sell their perfumes anywhere else but in the single shop that they themselves had, and I, too, therefore bought the scent directly in Berlin.
– If I remember correctly, the scent itself was one of the original products of the company, dating from the 1920s and is said to have been a special favourite of Marlene Dietrich’s during her formative Berlin years.
– The name “Veilchen”, i.e. “violet” with its diminutive suffix “-chen” somehow seems quintessentially German even linguistically.
– And finally the eponymous flower, violet, is even the subject of a famous little poem by Germany’s national poet, Goethe.
So, yes, maybe if I’m lucky, I might just have cleared the threshold of having been German enough 🙂 !
Fascinating! I love the old style (to me anyway) method of selling the most exquisite juice! Thanks for sharing.
Sounds very German — I love that, and didn’t know the brand.
What a lovely story, Colognissimo, thanks! And I bet it smells lovely on you.
By the way, if you’re fluent in German, could you possibly recommend a good English translation of Goethe’s poetry? I’ve only read a tiny bit and would like to read more.
I would have loved to help, but as a native speaker (who also doesn’t happen to be in the business of teaching German as a foreign language) I never needed to check what translations there were and which of them were any good – so, sorry for that!
And how does one define a good translation anyway – especially in the case of poetry where apart from the literal and metaphorical meaning and all the connotations the words and phrases might have you also have to preserve the rhythm of the various lines and put rhymes in all the right places? The whole enterprise is just so extraordinarily complex that it seems like a miracle that translations of poetry can exist at all! I therefore suppose that every reader kind of needs to decide for themselves what aspects are important for them when they start looking for a translation.
Thank you for your incredibly thoughtful response. Of course, I understand why a native speaker wouldn’t be familiar with translations from their native language. It’s probably similar to asking a resident of a particular city to recommend a good hotel. They don’t know, because they don’t need them. 😁
I imagine that poetry is particularly difficult to translate; sometimes it’s difficult enough for a native speaker to understand!
Thanks again, and I hope you enjoy the weekend.
Very interesting story, thank you so much for sharing!
Cool story!Just sad when these small but exquisite perfume houses go out of business!(not to mention the dusty perfume shops that hides so many vintage treasures sometimes!)
Today I had on a swipe of Trance by J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin from a sample for CP points.
Later it was DIOR Eau Noire and now for bed Tea Cabanel Cafe Cabanel, which I love and want a bottle one day soon.
I had Trance (given to me by a dear friend) but my dad “borrowed” my bottle)
You have a fair number of pilfering relatives, don’t you?!
Indeed I do! And that doesn’t even include close friends who comment how much they “love” what I am wearing and I let them “borrow” my bottle 🙂
AND I forgot to mention co-workers! I have gifted numerous partial bottles to them as well! Life has been good to me in that I have very generous friends who give me unwanted and unloved bottles from their collections…so I like to spread the love…especially with my elderly parents or a budding perfumista 🙂
😄 The miserly part of me says, “make decants instead.”
AnneE, LOL! Sometimes I do but with my parents and certain folk I need to be more generous
If In come into a grand inheritance then I might spring for a bottle of Trance. It’s bloody good.
I’m in April Aromatics Jasmine, of which I have a sample, acquired when I was looking for a straightforward Jasmine, and that it is.
I tried to find mine but couldn’t! Jasminora, right?
Oh – I guess it’s called Jasmina. I’d never noticed. I always thought it was just “Jasmine.”
Jasmina, that’s it.
SOTD = April Aromatics Vanilicious
CP points and maybe I get an extra bonus point for wearing German perfumes Monday to Friday. OK, I will award myself the extra point!
My household was selected as one of the representatives for this community. There were several fliers, with the code exposed (really?) and a threat that a response was required BY LAW. Part of me wants to buck the system but I decided since I got a third notice, in the form of a booklet, I will do my duty to “represent” my community 🤓!
What does that involve–representing it? It sounds rather ominous.
Surely you do deserve that extra point, or even two or three.
Thanks. I resolved to finish the whole thing in one sitting. It was more demographic than anything although some of the questions can more accurately be answered by searching through databases. I was hoping to see some questions regarding grocery expenses but alas, there were none!
Is that a HOA thing? What an effing nuisance.
Ormonde Woman – Geza Schoen – Germany. But later today, I think it will be Guerlain Herba Fresca because it’s truly summer and it’s Friday!
Herba Fresca is perfect for Summer Friday 🙂
Did Geza Schoen also do OJ Osmanthus? If so, I take a point.
I think he did all of the early OJ’s
Erik Kormann Eau de Fröhliche No. 2 for me today. It works nicely in summer, I’m finding, too — it’s fairly light. And there is much happiness around the house this week, with the end of school, better than expected final marks, a successful orchestra audition, and getting ready for vacation tomorrow.
For the briefest instant, I thought Eric Cartman of the legendary South Park put out a fragrance. Wowwza. Can you imagine? So good to hear all your good news! 😃
The mind reels. 😂
It was nice to read your memories of Wuerzburg yesterday. There was a big department store next to the Old Bridge that had a rooftop cafe that was also a great place to sit and watch the river barges and the Festung.
I love the name of that fragrance. 🥰
Erik Kormann’s actually one of the brands that I never managed to catch while it was still around.
My collection is not very heavy on German perfumes but I am sampling Fougair from J. F. Schwarzlose Berlin. Not a me scent so I’ll probably scrub it off
Darn, sorry about the scrubber!
Once again out of step with the CP wearing Fils de Dieu. Happy weekend all!
Happy weekend to yoy, too, Deva!
After walking eight miles in less than two hours (this summer is all about getting healthy as I have given up sugar, carbs, alcohol and processed foods) I am wearing Escada’s Limited Edition Un Ete en Provence. This was one of the several bottles I bought on my first trip to Paris in 1994. When I returned a year later I bought the 100 ml directly from an Escada boutique (they had one bottle left in storage and willingly sold it to me). I was without it for decades but NozKnoz wore it and encouraged me to look on eBay . I bought several bottles at an extraordinarily good price. Two have been gifted (to my mom and a dear friend) but I still have three.
I should also add that it started my Escada bottle obsession which has transferred over to the eldest mini Marzipan. I/we have every bottle from 1994 to 2022 (with the exception of one which we couldn’t get discounted- Summer Festival) I have Chiffon Sorbett (the first LE from 1993) but only in a mini.
That’s truly impressive!
Thanks, Calypso! I am also secretly tickled pink that my eldest will “carry the torch” in acquiring the LE bottles when I am gone.
She has already laid claim to the empty bottles that represent the years of acquisition. My middle one and my youngest are OK with that 🙂
oh wait! is the truly impressive my walking? LOL OOps! It took me a long while to get up to this level. Started walking Spring of 2020. Dietary changes are due to my joints barking at me. I have to say that since changing my diet I have noticed a huge difference.
Hi house twin!
waving ‘Hello”!!!!
Good for you! I love sugar and carbs, don’t think I could ever willingly give them up.
I am dealing with the early stages of arthritis. So changing my diet has been a godsend for me. I can definitely notice the difference. And many of my co-workers are all battling their weight so they are on similar diets and have given me great pointers.
Shamelessly stealing austenfan’s logic from earlier this week, with my choice of vintage N. 19 (since France shares a border & complex history with Germany).
Really haven’t been into scent this week since the aqi in Chicagoland has been in the very unhealthy range. It’s a bit improved today.
Speaking of Chanel, they’ve come out with some attractive cosmetic accessories (the particular brushes aren’t ones I’d use, but love the leather case color choices):
https://www.chanel.com/us/makeup/codes-couleur/?autoplay=true
Chicago has had it much worse than us, and I can barely stand what we have! Glad it is a bit better.
Just a tiny spritz of La Fille de Berlin…I do love this scent. Need to add some 4711 to my collection, just for nostalgia. Back in my high school years, someone gifted me a tiny bottle and I remember it still. Can’t believe it is July tomorrow!!! Yikes, this summer is flying…..
Fantastic association for the cp!Love it!
Like others I wore 4711 today (a vintage sealed 50ml bought for £1 my bottle is more orange blossomy and feminine than the new one which is more herbal, they are both good I think, I’ve been tempted by the limited editions of 4711 too but don’t know where to start. Tonight I’m in Dior Homme Intense which is so comforting. I had invited a cousin to spend a week with me in London at the end of July but she’s unwell with depression and won’t be coming after all, I’m sad about it.
I’m sorry to hear about your cousin and hope that the cloud hanging over her lifts very soon. And that the two of you will be able to reunite in the not too distant future.
Thank you allo for your kind words, I hope for a reunion with my cousin later.
Oh, that made me sad. I hope she gets better.
Thank you so much Robin, I was so excited about her visit, maybe later this year when she is better.
Hope so!
I’m wishing the best to your cousin.
Thank you Lillyjo, she’s getting help.
That’s a shame about your cousin. Hopefully she gets help to deal with her situation.
She is in good hands I think.
I chose La Haine, from Moth and Rabbit, signed by Mark Buxton.
It feels like dark green juice, made from herbs and then getting dried on the cedar. Weird and unique. Tho I do have some reservations on how successfully they interpret the film in olfaction, it helps cool me up in the muggy weather.
Have a good trip, Robin!
Happy Friday (and stay safe from the poor air quality), everyone!
Thank you but I’m not going anywhere! (The “we’re off to Germany” was just the community project.)
Oops. Silly me *facepalm* XD
You’re not the only one so not silly at all!
I was going to break out Jil Sander Sun for the CP, but I was feeling more floral than beachy today, so I stole Robin’s idea from yesterday and went with Linden Soliflore oil from Dame and will take a quarter CP point. This one is bone dry and I think I need a drop of sugar, preferably honey, in my linden. I image the body cream version of this is quite nice for layering though.
Today’s tea is an F&M’s Darjeeling. I’m having it with milk, but I think this one goes better with lemon.
I avoided getting a sample of the Dame Linden b/c I haven’t had any luck with that note in the past. Something about it sets my teeth on edge.
Here the name, in full, teutonically artsy glory:
biehl parfumkunstwerke pc01
A few years ago they broke down and gave it the subtitle(?) “mango green forest”, and it is indeed fruity and green. A great summer perfume, although now that I am on the second bottle I am slowing down on using it.
I tried that series when it came out, but I didn’t find any that clicked with me. I’m glad you did, enjoy!
I’m still in FM Une Fleur de Cassie and am claiming partial points for being close to Germany (in France).
If I was at home, I would be wearing Jil Sander #4 from a recent swap with a very generous NSTer.
You smell wonderful!
😊
That’s a pretty one! I hope your trip is living up to your expectations.
💕
Enjoy your trip in France.
Merci, Aurora!
I’m back in Escada again today, the one with no other name, from 2005. It’s green and good in summer. My plan was to wear Jil Sander #4 but it’s just too heavy for our heat.
Had a fun time meeting up with Oakland Fresca and Nancyleandros for lunch yesterday and then sniffing at our splendid perfume place Kohl-Linscomb. Smelled a lot of things and I decided to buy some Arquiste Indigo Smoke but they were out of stock! However, they have my name and will order it. Probably should not get a smoke scent given what a lot of our country is dealing with right now. :-(. Good luck to those of who suffering through that. Oakland Fresca got plenty warmed up being here in Houston! And she has a very fun husband.
Hi , house twin!!!
I’m jealous that you got to meet up with Nancy and OF! Sounds like you had lots of fun 🙂
Sounds like a great day.
Fun times!
I miss having a real perfumista-friend for sniffathons in my valley!
Glad you three had a great time.
It’s always fun to read about perfumista meetups here!
What fun!
I’m so glad we could make it happen! 🤗
In April Aromatics Calling All Angels for the CP.
Very busy day. Back to read comments later.
Happy Friday! ☕️
Have a happy weekend!
Thank you, Kanuka! 🌻
happy friday ,M!
Thank you, CM8! 👋🏻
I’ve often wondered if it was named after this song (one of my favorites ever):
https://youtu.be/KRUErh47sao
I love that song! And I see how an incense can match the feeling of the song.
Yes, me too.
Perfect choice! This one always makes me think of magnificent German Gothic cathedrals.
It is very beautiful! One of my favorite incense perfumes!
Lovely! I wore mine earlier this week!
Thank you!
Happy Friday’
I’m in spring floral overload today with Hanbury by Maria Candida Gentile (beautiful I think all natural mimosa/ white flower honey concoction) with a layer of Memo Granada on top.
Mimosa and honey! Sounds lovely.
It is really pretty 🙂 And relatively affordable in the small 30 ml format.
Hanbury is such a great scent!
And, by the way, did you realise you had a German connection here, too: The name references a botanical garden in the Liguria region of Italy which was laid out by a bunch of German botanists, gardeners and landscape architects.
Oh excellent!
I had no idea! Thanks 🙂 There are so many interesting ideas behind the perfumes in this brand… and lots of good offerings. I remember liking many of the samples and also fell in love with Noir Tropical. Which one is your favourite?
Rabbit rabbit rabbit and I feel sorry for them as it’s absolutely freezing with a big dump of snow expected later today. Wearing Immortal Beloved , for Beethoven, and hoping the sun will eventually rise and add some warmth to the morning.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortal_Beloved
I will send those rabbits (and YOU!) some of our heat and humidity!
The three Marzipan feline grandchildren (who temporarily live with me) have two rabbits who entertain them on our lawn. I think the rabbits enjoy looking at the cats through the window as much as the cats enjoy the rabbits. It has become an evening ritual that thoroughly amused me as well.
What a lovely link to the CP. Judging from the notes listed on the website, the fragrance seems nice too. Have you tried all of the Ys-Uzacs?
I tried a lot from the first batch Pohadka, Lale, Monodie, Metaboles, satin Doll and some of the BOM but none of the recent ones as they are a bit too expensive for me. I wear Lale and Pohadka a lot. Immortal Beloved is a bit syrupy/ boozy for most days but okay in mid winter
I’ve only tried Satin Doll (which I love) and Pohadka, which I enjoyed but was not smitten by. The collection has expanded enormously.
I think Lale is a lovely languid perfume, like old fashioned lemon soap left on an outside wooden bench next to a spring or well, by a garden in summer heat
I am scent twins with pl67 in Calling All Angels. It’s a nice summer day here before the heat dome comes in on Tuesday. I will go outside and give my tomato flowers a shake to pollinate. I’m hoping for a bumper crop this year. Last year I didn’t grow any, and 2021 was poor.
Twins! We smell wonderful!
For today’s cp I’m joining those of you who’ve chosen the original 4711 cologne as their SOTD sometime this week. But I’m claiming an extra point or two for its interesting backstory. My friend’s MIL was a German immigrant whom I had the pleasure of meeting just once. I didn’t know she was addicted to 4711 until she passed away; my friend (who was not a perfume person) knew that I was and gifted me with several bottles that had belonged to her late MIL. Among them was this beautiful vintage set that is the source of my fragrance today: 4711 Cologne Water Vintage Perfume Gift Set Maggie Horn
Yes, the Tuesday Air Quality Alert said Chicago had the worst air quality in the world – it was awful! We drove to an appointment in the western suburbs and despite having the car windows closed I could taste the smoke and my eyes burned all day. It was eerie and scary. Wednesday wasn’t much better but I stayed in all day; it’s finally gotten a bit better but it’s very hot and humid now. Add to this my kitchen sink clogged on Monday just as I was about to run a full dishwasher load and a plumber who couldn’t come til Friday (still waiting as of now); it hasn’t been the best week. I have an old house with 2 small bathroom sinks making hand-dishwashing not very much fun! 🤞this will be remedied soon!
Staying low key and local this holiday weekend – and far away from the much touted NASCAR street race downtown, guaranteed to make traffic all over a nightmare! Looking forward to seeing old friends at our local fireworks display 💥. And wishing all a wonderful weekend ahead 🧨
For some reason, the link I posted above to see the vintage 4711 set didn’t post. Hopefully, this one will. The painting is delightful!
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1242555490/4711-cologne-water-vintage-perfume-gift?ref=share_v4_lx
That is so cute!
A lot to deal with, hope 4711 helped.
Gosh, I hope that plumber showed up today and all is fixed!
I’m playing along today in Anat Fritz (the original one.) it’s a nice, cooling blast of lavender for a warm and humid day.
I would have worn 4711 if I could find the little bottle that DH brought back for me after a flight through Cologne. Maybe I’ll do the search for double points! 😁
Wow, forgot Anat Fritz entirely!
Yep, it fell under the radar in about 5 minutes.
I recently determined that my bottle of Philosykos has, perhaps gone off. I knew I wasn’t enjoying it much, but I thought it was just me. Then, the sprayer broke. So I went off to Nordstrom this afternoon to try it from a fresher bottle, and yes, my bottle isn’t right. Even allowing for some changes due to aging, mine smells like straight-up alcohol coming out of the bottle (which is a trick, since the sprayer is busted), and then doesn’t do much to redeem itself.
I applied a couple good sprays at the store less than an hour ago, and there’s not much left. Could be my dry-ish skin, maybe my lotion eats fragrance, I don’t know.
I also tried out the Jo Malone Basil & Neroli. Apparently it was released in 2016, and I recall trying it and having no interest. Now, I have interest! It seems to come only in the big bottle? Boo!
I think I have a case of New Bottle Fever. I want something new. It’s a shame I don’ t keep a buy list. I like to rely on my memory, which is reliably unreliable. (Think of the money saved.) I was thinking earlier that thus far, 2023 has not been a banner year at my house. Absolutely could have been worse, but, still, crap happens. Wanting a bottle might just be expressing a strong desire to change things up.
Oh, what a shame about your Philosykos. How old was it?
(And totally get the new bottle fever, especially if everything else isn’t going right.)
I have plenty of German brands! The two that I really love happen to be all natural: Florascent and April Aromatics. My combo scheme today is Florascent Thé Vert, a green tea and osmanthus scent, and April Aromatics Liquid Dreams, an osmanthus and narcissus scent with a beautiful citrus openings Both combine nicely and for some reasons give me certain Hamburg vibe.. it’s the light smell of the harbor on a breezy but sunny day, with a bit of briny deep water accord. The narcissus note will do that. I think I will spray some 4711 eau de cologne from the fridge to round everything up and add one more, classic German brand to the mix.
That sounds a lovely mix, and also like I need to try the Florascent!
Thank you to everyone who left me a message yesterday!
I appreciate you all so much!
SOTD!
Amouage Ubar.
I did a mini-cp all on my own this week,quite unintentionally,with Amouage.
Journey,Myths,Ubar and Sunshine all had a day out!
Happy Friday.
XO’s🌹🤗
You smell fab!
Thank you!And I am also looking fwd to next Friday’s cp!🙌🏻🙌🏻
Happy birthday for yesterday ! Have a fabulous year
I’m not at all CP compliant today in Monyette layered over sunscreen with Lush Charity Pot wafting from my hands. Wondering if I could pull off a chocolate week next week! Sadly, I haven’t been able to eat chocolate for several years due to its having become a serious migraine trigger for me, and I MISS IT. At least, perhaps I can smell like it. Also, coincidentally, I bought a chocolate-scented cosmos for my back porch container garden today (it’s nestled up near my chocolate mint).
The weather gods heard my whining and threw a heat wave our way, so I’ve gone from cashmere sweaters to keeping the blinds closed in the span of two days. Still, enjoying the chance to finally wear shorts!
Gosh, I am so sorry about the chocolate. I would miss it too.
If you enjoy substitutes, do try Lush Posh Chocolate!
https://www.lushusa.com/body/body-cleansers/posh-chocolate/9999961069.html
Oo, thanks for the rec!
It’s great stuff. I tend to just use a tiny bit along with other shower gels, since it’s not cheap — plus I love citrus / chocolate combos 🙂
Posting late today!
Another day of bad air here. It wasn’t very bad this morning, but things took a turn for the worse by lunchtime. Maybe things will clear up tomorrow?
Not following the CP today. But if I would have, I would have worn either Hugo Boss Deep Red, or TM Womanity.
SOTD = Korres Guava lotion. I found another tube of it in my bodycare stash, so I was quite pleased about that.
It was quite hazy when I left this afternoon for a Costco run. AQI is 160 right now … I hope it gets better!
Definitely saw the haze here, too.
Finally put the AQI on my apple watch, as it went up so quickly today and I want to know when I should mask. 11:30 now and it is 156, ack.
Stay safe, yay for finding more body lotion.
For today, I’m in the last of my 4711 colognes, which is Lime & Nutmeg. I think I’ll take triple points for German brand, German perfumer, and cologne hahaha. The perfumer is Geza Schoen.
It’s been a week y’all. I have a weird story that I’ll save for the weekend poll. I’m SO looking forward to a four day weekend since I just yesterday decided to take Monday off.
Oh, that really is triple points!
Sorry it has been a week.
Enjoy your long weekend!
I don’t have any German brands in my stash so it was a fail for me. Instead I’m twinning with Jalapeno in Korres lotion (jasmine for me).
One of my first fragrances was the famous 4711 from a neighbor who was from Germany. The bottle I received was directly from there. This lovely neighbor also made the most delicious shortbread cookies at Christmas time; everything was so intricately decorated with different colors of icing. They were so nice that you didn’t want to eat them. But I did!
Happy Friday everyone.
We’re scent siblings! Cool!
Yes, hi twin! I’ve forgotten how luxurious Korres lotion is. Almost like a body butter!
Today I wore Jil Sander #4. I wanted to wear Hugo Boss Deep Red, but it has apparently fell out of it’s carded holder. It’s somewhere mixed in the sample drawer and I didn’t have time to look this morning.
I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. I found out the store is going to lengthen its hours of operation. I can barely take the nights as they are. I’m just getting to old for this #$%&, and beating myself up over my life choices.
Ugh… sorry for whining.
Better to get some of your misgivings off your chest than hold them in.
We both thought of Deep Red today!
Yes! and I was thinking of you when I was looking for it. I guess it’s time for a drawer clear-out.
Can’t the store recruit more or will you have to work more? Compassion if the latter.
You smell great, I have both No 4, modern and Deep Red, vintage but they are in the chest on the balcony.
Yuck, lillyjo. I hope your hours won’t change too much.
I love JSN4 and that’s only knowing it in the current version. I hope you’ll get a better pick of hours!
