Happy Friday! It's also Coral Triangle Day. Birthdays: Cole Porter, Jackie Wilson, Michael J Fox. Here, we're celebrating Adjectives Friday. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with an adjective in the name. Bonus points if the adjective is apt! Thanks go to pyramus for the suggestion.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm copying PriscillaE's Tuesday choice in Parfum d'Empire Corsica Furiosa.
Reminder: on 6/16 we're doing Close to Home...wear a perfume that comes from a local maker, or has your location in its name or backstory, or maybe uses a ingredient/ plant that is native to your area, or interpret this howsoever you like. Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in Erbario Toscano Vaniglia Piccante, because I wanted something comforting and relaxing. Despite its name, this fragrance does not smell particularly spicy to me – I’d say it is amber/caramel vanilla. Delicious opening but a very quiet dry-down. One of those scents you are supposed to buy five minutes after smelling it, I guess. But it is still nice.
Last night was troubled. Actually, we had an air alert yesterday evening (after I posted), but that one was short. Then, around midnight, there was another alert with warnings about multiple things coming from Russia (I do not want to be too specific). We stayed up until 4 am reading updates and listening to the sounds outside. Fortunately, nothing came. There are some victims and destruction in other regions though.
That is so scary, stay safe.
I can’t imagine how difficult this might be .
How terrifying. I hope you managed to sleep after all of that stress.
Slept like a log, thanks 😀
Small victories. ❤️
The anxiety must be unrelenting. I am so sorry. I am so sorry.
Glad you could get some sleep later.
Stay safe Glannys!
I hope today and tonight are much less stressful!
This sounds so, so hard. I hope the nights to come are more peaceful and restful!
This is scary. Do you have access to a safe place?
There is a bomb shelter ten minutes from us, but we stay in our apartment.
That seems far, I understand just staying put.
Бережи себе! (= “Take care [of oneself]”)
Дякую!/Thank you!
I can’t imagine the toll of chronic, nonstop stress on so many people. Glad you and yours are safe Glannys. Especially glad you are able to sleep.
Thinking of you, Glannys, and like Isabella, I hope the night to come are more peaceful and restful.
Thinking of you. Stay safe!
Sending you a big hug and I hope you get a break soon
Glad you did get some sleep — that’s so stressful. I wish the end were in sight, or at least that things could let up a bit.
so frightening. So glad you are okay and smelling cozy, if not long lasting.
Having lived through the Iranian Revolution in the 1970s, I can fully empathize. The nights were long.
It’s wonderful to see you here again but I’m so sorry you have to go through so much – you and your people are so brave and an inspiration to us all. I pray for your safety 🙏. Sending 🤗🤗🤗 to you and your mom and your 🐈⬛.
Glad you got some sleep after all that. Be safe, and be well.
Glad you are ok and sending you great big hugs and strength.
Happy Friday! I am CP compliant in Burberry Brit Sheer. I think the name is apt.
Such a busy week! Looking forward to the weekend to re-organize and catch up. Owner of the market re-arranged my schedule a bit, which is fine. Except she didn’t just change one of my days. She added an hour to each day and has me working till close. I think I may need to remind her I’m semi-retired with another part time job. So, two 10-hour days a week isn’t exactly what I’m looking for…. Working 8:30 am to 12:30 pm then another job from 2 – 8 just doesn’t sound very appealing…. Hopefully, she’s just doing that for short term until we are fully staffed with summer folks.
Ugh, no it doesn’t. Do you have college students that come home for the summer and fill in?
We do. As well as J-1 students, some of whom aren’t here yet. We had too many workers yesterday for the number of customers.
That sounds like a very long day. Hope you get some help soon.
Yuck. 10-hour days do not say “Part Time” to me at all.
Same here!!
I am wearing vintage l’Heure Bleue edc. I have some volunteer work in the afternoon that involves a library and old books which I looove, looking forward to that.
Vintage l’Heure Bleue and old books. A perfect afternoon.
Fabulous! I haven’t tried the EdC but I’m sure it’s heaven.
I’m wearing Ginger Piccante, which I love.
It’s such a nice one. The ginger note is gorgeous.
I think I get points with my selection today. Wearing Clinique Happy which I feel is apt😊
Perfect!
Hey guys!
I’m in Bois des Iles parfum today, just because. Barely compliant as “island” is an adjective here but not a particularly exciting one. It was an exciting purchase however, just wafting heavenly wood and spice. I will say I get a bit less gingerbread that I did maybe 15 years ago. Maybe just needs a bit of age on it!
Have an exam Monday and trying to make sure I know what I need to know. Not sure why but some chapters this professor just makes us watch a video. Not sure how that makes sense but okay.
Have a great day everyone!
I can’t explain the video thing, but I hope your exam goes well! You smell great.
Thank you! Just studying now. 😇
you smell great!
Feeling very adjectival in SL Douce Amère, which is a glorious thing, bitter and sweet in equal measures. It might be my favourite Lutens, except for all my other favourite Lutenses (there are a lot of them).
double points…
You smell fab! I have the barest drop of this one still somewhere. I love and own a lot of Lutens too. Sadly the ones I like the most get pulled from distribution….
Adore Douce Amère — it’s my favorite Lutens, too!
Can I take CP points for White Cube? Lol! It was calling me and I had to wear it because I love it. I’m so glad I gave my other bottle to my mom, it smells great on her. Happy Friday everyone.
Of Course!
Yes! Plus, you smell great!
Yesterday SOTD was Guilty, so CP points for the whole name being an adjective. Today, Atelier Silver Iris. We are in Lubbock, TX for my husband’s 40-yr high school class reunion. Today, we’ll take his dad to straighten out a few financial things and go to lunch, and tomorrow spend time with him as well. On the way out of town, we’ll have breakfast with 2 of my aunts and uncles.
Sounds like a busy but fun weekend. Enjoy!
That sounds like a great weekend. Have fun!
Enjoy your time with your father-in-law and various relatives!
You smell great!
Amazing how quickly those reunion years can sneak up on a person!
Joining Robin in Corsica Furiosa… but FREEBIE ALERT would anyone like the rest of my bottle? There’s about a quarter left. I soaked the label off, but I will include the box. US only, thanks.
Please dibs here and send a note to sarahbneuner in G male
Oh really? 😍 Dibs, please!
Great, shoot me an email!
Wearing Vanille Insensee, and while I know it means something like crazy I always think “hopping mad”. My adjective is “wearable” as usually vanilla is too sweet for me.
I thought about that one for today. One of my favorite vanillas.
I’m in Eau de Soleil Blanc for the cp. It’s perfect for this weather. We are supposed to get in the low 80’s later with sun and low humidity. I love it.
Madtownteen has her pre camp physical later. The very last thing to get checked off the list before she leaves next weekend. She’s counting the days. We will be empty nesters for 6 weeks. I guess it’s a prequel for when she leaves for college next fall.🥺
Oh, that’s going to be a big change! Sending you a hug in advance.
Thanks! It sure is. She has some pretty good ideas of what she wants to do, as much as you can at seventeen and a half I guess, so I’m excited for her. But still, 💔. Hugs appreciated!
I’ll send you hugs too. The empty nest thing…..can be really nice.
Black Saffron -I smell like old books.
Yesterday at the library a patron asked me if I ever get sick of the building. I was a bit thrown off since no one has ever asked me this question. So I remarked how coming into this building is constant reminder of what architects are capable of using their hands. And it’s my palace. So no, not sick of it yet! lol
Reading The Arc-an interesting book about couples who spend a lot of money to find their perfect match. An easy, mindless read. Next is
A Sunday in Ville-d’Avray
Book? Book? 😉
😂😂
What have you read so far that has knocked your socks off?
This year has been meh 🫤 so far
I recently read the novel To Live by the Chinese modern novelist Yu Hua which was written in 1993. It is epic and tragic but stripped down to the simplest prose, and often poetic. I found it gripping and read it in two sittings. There is also a Chinese movie version of it, though it’s not really very true to the story. The professor for the class I took recently on Chinese history recommended it. It’s the story of events in the life of one man and his family during and after the Chinese Revolution.
That sounds really good. I think it was you who mentioned Donna Leon? I am reading So Shall You Reap, which is her latest but my first and enjoying it.
I remember laying across the bed reading that in 1994. My dear friend had died from AIDS and I read in fits and spurts. This book was indeed so naked and stripped down, I could tolerate it. A necessary book.
Hmmmm. . . mostly my socks have stayed firmly on (a glance through the dozens of audiobooks I have listened to this year yields nothing! And as for book books, been reading to finish a few things, but nothing even remotely sock-loosening 🙁 ). The last bit of fiction that I really loved was The Candy House. Well, I also really appreciated Tamsyn Muir’s trilogy starting with Gideon the Ninth (but you have to sort of go with the flow with her writing and if goth, sci-fi, fantasy, queer writing sounds like too much, ummm its gonna be too much!). If you are up for non-fiction, I really enjoyed Amy Stanley’s Stranger in the Shogun’s City.
WAIT. Adding Laurence Fearnley’s Winter Time to my list of books worthy of recommending. I really loved it. But it is a book that seeps winter and so is best read in front of a crackling fire or at least a blasting heater.
Aww, you are sweet.
I have read a few that were quite good. The one I am reading now is very good if you enjoy historical fiction during WWII. It is Good Night Irene. Also, I really liked The Secret Book of Flora Lea.
Thanks for all the recommendations!
Whoa. I could never tire of that building. But am still VERY SAD about the demise of the Slavic reading room (and it’s been years).
I do wonder what on earth she meant.
I chose Encre Noire for the CP. Can’t decide whether the adjective “noire” is apt though — Encre Noire smells of ink, to be sure, but it reminds me so much of a library nook with loads of dusty books and an old writing table (or maybe a wooden study carrel) that what I see in my head is sort of sepia-toned ink rather than black. Woke to extremely unexpected rain, which is the perfect accompaniment to Encre Noire … but not so good for my gardening tools or the chair cushions we had confidently left out on the deck. Gave me an excuse to go out and enjoy being sprinkled upon. 🌦️
You smelled great today SheriG!
I’m wearing Black Orchid today and will be on vacation by next Thursday, thank god. I’ll probably just bring some perfume samples on the trip as I always find that more convenient than travel sprays.
I hope your vacation is fabulous! It sounds like it’s well-deserved.
Black Orchid is one of my favorites so I know you smell amazing.
I’m in Heure Exquise, rounding out my personal week of Annick Goutal. I thought I hated this scent-I loooovvve it.
Last night we had a rain reprieve-so my friend and I went cycling. I knew I had to mow the lawn-it was starting to look like hay. Got out the mower-started to rain. But I persevered even tho it rained harder. I got soaked. Put the lawn mower away-rain stopped lol.
It’s the time of year when everything is in bloom-my quince tree, rhododendrens, a few tulips, LOTV, and all the different lilacs. That plus fresh cut green grass – heavenly.
I’ll repeat what I said earlier this week, especially after reading Glnnys’ post-I’ll wish everyone here one solid minute of peace of mind.
I almost wore Heure Exquise today! You smell lovely.
Thank you, and sending good wishes your way. I think you Ukranians are amazing and I hope for great things for you in the future.
We have quinces now, ripe for picking
Mine are just blossoming-think we’re on opposite sides of the world, probably 🙂
I’m with you on everything in the garden bursting into bloom – I have roses and peonies all over the place and a heavenly-smelling mock orange shrub and who knows what else opened up since I went out there this morning! I hope something’s left by the end of June! (And Mr. Laila just came in with a whole lot of fresh-picked strawberries, yum.)
Hurray for a break in the rain!
sorry- Glannys , and my apologies for the typo of your name .
Sotm is La Dolce Vita. We have some much needed rain today and the plants are happy🌷
I wonder if we will ever get any again!
Wearing Chanel no 5 edp and still waiting that bottle of Memoir from fragrancenet.com. If it’s not here by the 11th, I will raise hell about it. Good news is that a $15 gift card was found in a pocket and will be some groceries today.
found money! the best kind!
For adjective day I’m wearing Frédéric Malle Synthetic Jungle. I dislike the name, but very much like the fragrance. It is inspired partly by Estée Lauder Private Collection, but in my opinion is so much better than that one. It is more like what I always wished PC smelled like.
I love Synthetic Jungle too but agree about the name.
I did that earlier this week! Yes, I like it a lot but I don’t find it very synthetic or jungle-y.
I’m wearing Freckled and Beautiful by A Lab on Fire. I’m not sure if it’s apt, but if “Sunspots and pretty cute” is close enough, I’ll claim the points.
I’ve been absent a lot lately because for some reason the internet is just stressing me out really badly. I hope you all know that you are in my thoughts even though I’m not around too often.
Sorry about your stress, Sistine. The internet can be a rocky place. Sending hugs!
I always enjoy your thoughtful comments, sistine. Sorry about your stress!
Hi Sistine. I hope you have a peaceful weekend and can enjoy the good things away from the internet.
Hugs, sistine. Appreciate you popping in for a bit to say “Hey”.
It’s nice to hear from you, sistine! And totally understand the need to stay away from the internet. Hope you are finding some offline peace.
In Mizensir’s White Neroli AND Divine’s l’ été orange rouge, so like extra.
Also, offering two freebies for CONUS folks. If you want one, lemme know here and email me your details: ann (dottie ) eisenberg (attagirl) comcast (dottie) net
1. Montale Paris Patchouli Leaves, 100 ml bottle about half full.
2. Decants (from Royalty Scents) approx 7 ml each of BDK Tuberose Imperiale and Ariana Grand Cloud Intense.
Oh gosh I would love the Patchouli Leaves! Emailing you now. Thank you!!!
I would like to claim the Montale if still available. Thanks.
Both freebies are claimed.
Wearing Bigarade Concentrée for the CP.
I like this one a lot in the summer and the small but noticeable amount of cumin (not listed in the notes but unmistakably present) does not bother me.
I remember reading Kafkaesque’s review of BC in which she quotes a person on Basenotes saying the perfume smells like “a cab driver eating an orange”, in reference to the sweaty armpit smell that cumin evokes. I don’t find it raises to that level of sweatiness, thank goodness.
I really want a bottle of this – I had one, but my younger brother adored it so I gave mine to him. I think she was quoting Chandler Burr. I didn’t get any cumin in it but I didn’t smell it in Kingdom, either.
You smell amazing!
Thank you Carole and so do you!
It is a scrubber on me and jealous of anyone who can wear it!
I’m non-CP-compliant this morning because I was too excited about the chance to wear Bee, thanks to the recent splitmeet. Having a lazy, cozy, slow morning and still searching for my work ethic. Possibly it’s somewhere in the couch cushions; I’ll spend some more time on the couch and see if I can find it.
It’s been ages since anyone other than Little Biscuit commented (in in-person life) on a fragrance I’m wearing, but happy to report that I got a warm compliment on my Bronze Goddess from my date last night. He had a whiff of calone about him at the start of the evening, but I’m firmly setting aside my prejudices on that front.
Nice to get a compliment! Perhaps if there are future dates with this person, you can broaden his fragrance horizons!
There are future dates with this person, but mostly I’m just really afraid that he’ll open the hall closet door and find my perfume collection and, like a reasonable person, find it troubling.
😂
Oh but still, yay for someone worth a 2nd date!
Nice compliment and you smell wonderful in Bee. Let us know if your work ethic turns up 😊
Still AWOL 😉
Glad to hear that your date last night was a promising one.
Stumbled across a long-neglected item today: Goop Edition No 4-Orchard, not listed on Fragrantica, so must not be in production any longer. Box says “a perfume of sun-warmed apricot, hay and dry earth.” It’s hitting the spot–the apricot is unsweetened, and overall is reminding me of summers in Vermont (must be the hay).
May I tie it to the CP by describing it as coming from an irritating celeb 😉?
Yes you may! 😀
Going to wear FM Iris Poudré today, which is what I chose yesterday and enjoyed an awful lot. It is often too “fancy” for me, but somehow yesterday it felt just right, and it is so beautiful.
Going to a concert this evening with a classical quintet (two violins, viola, cello, piano). Will be the first live classical music we’ve been to since leaving Galway 13 months ago. Yay!
Enjoy your concert, that sounds lovely.
My favorite!!!
IP is such an elegant fragrance, yet in a warm, plush way, not an aloof way (imho). Enjoy!
Your concert sounds absolutely lovely – enjoy!
Your SOTD and that concert sound like a perfect match.
Greetings from Lyon!
My holiday finally started and we are visiting the south of france. tomorrow we will travel further down south to a small holiday home in middle of nowhere.
No cp points for me today. I bumped into a Guerlain counter in a department store herr, while husband was buying deodorant, and decided to try Vetiver by Guerlain.
Its quite lovely and a good fit for the warm weather.
Today I also bought a small discovery set from L’artisan Parfumeur, its a sort of greatest hit collection i guess. It contains 6 small samples. Mostly their oldies (mure et musc, la chasse…) but also a few newer one (un air de bretagne, hist. d’orangers).
I never got to check out this brand, i only tried and have a small bottle of Fou d’Absinthe.
But now I have some new stuff to try during my holiday ☺️
Enjoy your holiday.
https://thisislyon.fr/things-to-do/museums/museum-gallo-roman-civilisation/
I really love this museum in Lyon, if you’re interested in Roman history
https://lugdunum.grandlyon.com/en/Discover/The-museum
A more up to date link
Unfortunately I did not have enough time to visit that museum. But I sure want to return to this amazing city.
The Musée de beaux arts here had beautiful roman stuff as well though (and egyptian, and greek, etc etc it really is a very nice museum…
….and there was an exposition of fascinating work of Robert Guinan, an artist from Chicago – who seems more famous in France than in USA…
https://www.mba-lyon.fr/fr/fiche-programmation/robert-guinan-chicago
Guerlain’s Vetiver is excellent.
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Complicated Shadows
Oh my lord! I am claiming CP points for sure! I really should wear this more often!
Funnily enough, I was introduced to meh dot com where you can get bargains. Today’s item is an obstacle course – way too complex for me to set up 🤣.
Lately, I have not had the urge to buy perfumes but yesterday I ended up getting Akro Bake – lemon and vanilla and bakery? Take my money now, STAT! I will likely split this because 100mL is a little much. I also got a 25-piece samples bag which I will of course share with the splitees we’re I to go ahead with it.
In other news, a friend of mine has stage 2 cancer of the pancreas. There’s been no prognosis yet because more in-depth analysis has to be done (metastasis, etc.). I have not participated in the novena for her (because, me not Catholic) but may do so starting this Sunday. Yes, a little late but it’s the thought that counts or at least I am justifying it as such.
I’m sorry to hear about your friend.
I’m sorry about your friend, hajusuuri.
Sorry to hear this. Cancer sucks. Good you can be a supportive friend!
I’m so sorry about your friend’s news.
My grandmother was a regular novena-sayer. I should revive that tradition/ritual in my own life. And I think it’s fine to join in, regardless of your own religion/background/beliefs. So, you have my Catholic permission. Kidding. 😉
Thanks and LOL. I went to Catholic school for most of my life though, so there’s that.
There’s a complication in that the hostess and I do not get along since she “threw me out” of a COVID rosary prayer thing. It’s too complicated to get into but my first time rejoining was for a novena for a friend’s husband who died in March. My guilty conscience is saying I should not wait and just join bur then I shouldn’t join just because I feel guilty…
I believe you commented about getting kicked of out the rosary group previously. 🙂
I’m sorry about your friend hajusuuri.
So sorry to hear about your friend.
I looked at Akro Bake long and hard when it was featured in the Luckyscent email this week, too. I’d love to hear what you think about it — and would be interested in the split.
I’m so sorry about your friend.
So sorry about your friend.
So sorry to hear about your friend. Cancer blows.
Join that novena when you are comfortable with doing so. Hopefully the hostess will mind her p’s and q’s.
Very sorry to hear about your friend! Do what feels right to you in supporting her.
Sorry to hear about your friend. Just being there for her and her family is so helpful.
So sorry to hear about your friend as well.
I tried a sample of Bake this week and quite liked it too.
Jergens Original Scent EDP
Later I will freshen up with Chance eau Tendre. I love this one for work and keep the bottle on my desk. I’m more than halfway through the 100 ml. This will be a thunk.
I *love* that you have a bottle of perfume on your desk at work!!
😜😸(I actually have two….)
Did you get a BUB of the Jergens EdP while it was still around?
No and now I could kick myself for not getting one because it’s been sold out every time I look.
The Jergens sounds like a pretty fun scent!
It is! And very nostalgic too.
Hello, all, today I’m doing the CP with a sense of satisfaction by wearing Safran Troublant! I don’t wear it too often because I want to save what is still left in my precious bottle (the old kind with an orange label and gold cap). It’s beautiful, and does not seem a bit troubling or unsettling, so perhaps the adjective here is not very apt. In fact I have wondered why it has that name before. Oh well! We have brilliantly clear blue skies today after a terrible thunderstorm yesterday with some high winds (up to 70 mph!). It looks so deceptively pretty outside because if you open the door you get blasted by the heat and humidity. We’re going up into the 90’s by now. Ugh.
Last night I watched “A Man Called Otto,” with Tom Hanks, which I had meant to see in the theater but missed out on. It’s heart-warming, probably really too schmaltzy, but still fun and what a darling cat!
I almost did L’Artisan Parfumeur’s Oeillet Sauvage! 🙂
I love Safran Troublant, and also find it utterly comforting and not in any way troubled. My son calls it the “most mama” of my fragrances. 🙂
Have a happy weekend! Sounds like it’s off to a good start perfume wise
A schmaltzy movie with a cat could just hit the spot for me now and again!
Seriously! I could use that too!
I had FOMO when the old type bottle was still available so I have the remains of one plus a BUB.
I watched A Man Called Otto and loved it!
I, too, loved the Hanks’ Otto film as well as the original, and the book was wonderful.
I’m wearing Orange Sanguine this morning and it’s lovely. I have to go argue with my internet provider this afternoon about reducing my bill, as it went up $15 this month, so I’ll change to something spine-strengthening later. I’m going in person because I think it will help.
Good luck!
I just got rid of HBO Max because my bill also went up by what I thought was in the $15 range also.
Please let us know how you did!
Hope you had positive results after talking with your ISP.
This week zoomed by! I am in Premier Figuier for the CP on one wrist, and Philosykos EdP on the other wrist to test if PF really is the premium fig. I was today years old when realized that Olivia Giacobetti did both. The DNA is so similar, but I have to say, I prefer the green notes in Philosykos to the almond and asafoetida in PF, so not so premium after all.
Tea today is F&M’s Wedding Breakfast, which is good (I can’t see F&M putting out a tea that isn’t good) but is a bit humdrum.
After three days of smokiness, the air quality index is back to green levels where I am. I’m relieved for my neighbor, who is hosting an outdoor wedding at her house tomorrow. I’m sure the whole family has been stressed out about what to do if it hadn’t improved.
Oh my gosh – I would be a nervous wreck! Looks like it will be nice weather!
Saturday is supposed to be the nicer of the 2 weekend days. Good luck to your neighbor and her family!
American Cream for the CP today, the weather is slowly warming up. Tonight I applied Innocent, I love the citrus in it.
I may copy you for tomorrow’s SOTD!
So glad it inspired you, it’s doesn’t feel so American, except that it’s sweet but it is rather creamy.
Comme des Garçons Sticky Cake! An old favorite from CdG.
Working at home today, feeling relieved that the sky over NYC is blue again…planning some weekend socializing and side-project writing.
Stay well, all!
I’m glad the air is clear again. Nice to be able to breathe again?
I have been reading reviews of the Pablo-matic exhibition and wonder if you have seen it?
You could say that… 😉
It’s great to hear the winds of good change are blowing your way!
So happy to see that nasty orange stuff gone!
Freebie that includes decants/samples of Chanel No 19, Alahine, Tauerville Vanilla Flash and a few from By Killlian.
Anyone interested in this? I would like to send it all together instead of splitting up.
Dibs!
Can you remind me what your email address is?
Sure. K r i s p o n t o (one word) at sio dawt midco dawt net.
It’s yours!
Thank you!
I was up at 2.30am to take some family members to the airport for a 4am check-in. They’re off to Australia where it’s warm, about 20C warmer each day compared to here. I loved the drive through the deserted city, seeing who was about. Now I have a day ahead which will include various perfume counters before driving home tomorrow. I think Old Spice might be the most apt perfume to fit the adjective CP but I don’t have it so I will find something while out shopping to test. Meanwhile I have a small solid perfume, Lust…which at 6 am, tired and listening to the farming report on the radio, is neither apt nor adjective.
I agree — I do love being up early sometimes, just to see a quiet city.
Those 4am checkins are nasty! I can report from your home city that it’s a frosty morning. Frost on lawns, roofs, cars 🙂 .
Those early morning airport runs can be brutal.
It’s started raining last night and is continuing this morning. It’s a slow steady rain which is perfect. First rain we’ve had in over a month and very much needed.
I’m in Safran Troublant today to be CP compliant and because it suits the rain. Thinking of all who are in distressing situations, either physically, emotionally, or both. Keep your chin up, things WILL get better!
Yay for getting a much needed gentle rain!
You smell wonderful! I think I’ll wear Safran Troublant this weekend.
Fat Electrician for me today, so I’m CP compliant. It’s cooled off considerably here and should start raining later today, so it felt like a good day for vanilla.
Fat Electrician is definitely a vetiver on me.
Yes, I do get the vetiver to complicate things, but I notice the vanilla more on me.
Sampling Montale Intense Cafe which is clearly misnamed –it’s much more floral than coffee on me
That is one of my happy perfumes – you smell wonderful!
Today is a granddaughters’ birthday – she is sweet 16. My sister ( her nonni) and I split a marc jacobs bag purchase for her. She is over the moon for it.
My SOTD is so interesting. It was one of now 7 birthday bottles. I was sharing some reading about it with a friend and she sent it to me.
It’s by a company called Ceremonia, apparently they are big on hair products.
I have a tiny gray pixie so hair products aren’t really my jam, but the have created a fragrance called Perfume De La Tierra which is beautiful!
It smells like nothing else I own. Soft, sweet but woodsy and floral and earthy and sunlit through trees and wow I love it.
Happy Sweet Sixteen to your granddaughter 🎂! Mine will be 16 late this summer, how did that happen so fast?
I have no clue, Laila!

Happy birthday to your grand niece! Do people actually say great niece even if they are only 2 removed?
I am a Tante in German. Actually my nephew is their dad, so I am the Alte Tanta, old aunt.
My sisters second husband was Sicilian to the core – that is why she is a nonni.
Tony, my sainted BIL died when the birthday girl was only two months old, he didn’t get a chance to be a nonna or see the second one who is 13 now.
What a sweet gesture from your friend!
so sweet.
For the CP, Skinny Dip. I happened to see my OG bottle while looking for a sweatshirt in the chilly early hours today. Our area had clearing air, so we decided to keep a few dollars out of the power company’s pocket and open the windows. It was 49 degrees around 6:00am! A bit of happy frivolousness: I may have mentioned that I still cling to our 1995 station wagon, ’cause it has 120,000 miles and a good engine, transmission, undercarriage, etc. But recently, the driver’s door console with all the buttons broke away and was hanging by the wires. Dealerships won’t mess with this kind of thing, (replacement door panels are long-discontinued), but the owner of a “legacy” body shop, who previously staved off the major rust for us, tinkered around and gave us a guaranteed fix for $125. I think I am going to get one of our state’s “Historic Vehicle” license plates and keep on rolling.
🙂 I love the historic vehicle plate idea!
It fits the definition of vintage!
Right? A few “top notes” are off, but the base is a joy. Our has the fold-up third seat in the back too – a real Family Truckster.
Now I’m curious. Is your wagon a Toyota Camry? My mom had one of those in the 90s and it was “my” car for a short time in 2006.
Thank goodness for that “legacy” body shop owner!
Yes. The current owner is the son of the first owner. The son worked for the big dealerships for 15 or so years, then one day asked his Dad if he could work for him. On his first day, his Dad met him at the door, handed him the keys, told him the current estimates are on the desk, and “I’m sure you can handle it.” Then he went home! They did later work together for many years, but his Dad never “took the lead.”
I didn’t go with CP today. On vacation and I took small samples with me to try out, including the much-anticipated Byredo Gypsy Water which I like but not sure it is “all that”. Reminds me of my sample of Commodity Gold but I may actually like Gold better because it is a little more “present”. Man, I have to douse myself with Gypsy Water to smell anything at all, very atypical for me. I got a discount code for getting the Byredo sample set so I have to decide if I go with Gypsy Water from a collector point of view or pass on it.
Today I went into Sephora so I have some Fenty and Boy Smells Woodphoria layered over and completely overpowering the Gypsy Water. The Woodphoria is pretty good.
Cool and rainy here but so good to see family and friends and catch up on sleep and goof off.
Gypsy Water was rather faint on me as well.
I love Gypsy Water for its vanilla! I only have a decant as I did not think it was FBW either.
Gypsy Water is what I used to wear to work when I sat next to a fragrance-sensitive coworker! Just one spritz daily, she never detected it or said anything. 😆
Just to be clear that I wasn’t being inconsiderate or risking anyone’s health, this coworker routinely used very scented hair products and what not.
I could definitely see Gypsy Water flying under the radar for the perfume objectors.
Accidentally compliant with the new PdN, Caravansérail Intense. It smells chocolatey to me, I don’t get the notes listed on Fragrantica. It’s very nice.
Thanks to the NSTers who wished me luck with the powerwashing today. It went off without a hitch! The painter’s tape that I put around the front door held. There was a teeny tiny leak by the front door, and that was it. I’ve spilled more water on the floor filling the cats’ water fountain. No need for a big towel to mop up.
Now finishing up a load of laundry and running a load of dishes.
SOTD = virtual scent for the CP would be Very Irresistible. However, all my perfume bottles are currently packed up in anticipation of the painters coming in later on this month.
Actual SOTD = Korres Guava lotion on my shins.
So glad the power washing went well!
Thanks, me too! Very relieved about that.
I’m following pyramus’ lead early this week in a one-word adjective for today’s cp: Sublime (as in Jean Patou vintage). An incredibly descriptive word for an incredibly beautiful floral chypre; it truly is. I like to wear this in the fall on a sunny day while the weather is still warm and the autumn trees are in glorious color – the experience perfectly matches the fragrance and its descriptor.
And today was truly a sublime weather day, just perfect for my first afternoon this summer at my favorite summer place – the local park district pool. Blue skies meet blue water as I float in complete freedom – for me it doesn’t get much better than this. Although outdoor summer concerts do compete, and they’ve burst into bloom here, too. We went to our first one last night, 2 teenage sisters originally from North Carolina but settled in our area now, bluegrass musicians and absolutely awesome beyond their years on the banjo and guitar, beneath the sky on our library lawn. Doesn’t get much better than that either.
Wishing everyone peace and joy and an opportunity this weekend to say, ‘Doesn’t get much better than this!’’
Thanks, Laila! We are having sublime weather here, too.
No points for me today in Vetiverus. But thanks to Robin and pyramus for this week’s very fun CP. It felt like everyone had lots to choose from.
We’re having a party tomorrow, sort of delayed house warming, but also not since some of these friends have been by before. I’m a bit stressed, not sure how we’ll fit everyone. And then there’s the tidying up…. I’ve semi-given up. My friends know I don’t live in a showroom! Hahahaha.
Wishing everyone a good week, stay well!
Hope that your party is lots of fun despite the pre-event jitters.
I am sure everyone will have fun and it is so wonderful to entertain people!
Wow, so many comments today and I’m later than I meant to be. I’m taking advantage of a 20 degree temperature drop to wear a cooler weather scent today. I almost went with Hungry Hungry Hippies by Smell Bent for some chocolate patchouli goodness, but I remembered that earlier in the week I’d already thought of wearing a different perfume at the end of the week in the cool weather. So I’m in Sweet William by Ineke in the adorable book packaging for the travel spray. Sadly, my travel spray has been evaporating the last couple years so I try to wear it whenever I think about it. It also makes me think back fondly on the heyday of indie perfume collaborations with Anthropologie around 2010. This Ineke perfume was originally released for Anthro and D.S. & Durga did two different lines for them back when their perfumes were especially interesting. It worked out well for me because I was shopping there a lot at there time and was in my 20s. Anyway, just a little trip down memory lane. That’s what Sweet William gives me. It was also the first, and maybe only, perfume my partner got me as a gift (after I gave him the the idea 😉).
I’m wearing White Patchouli for the cp. I scored some more 75% off hygiene and cleaning products at the grocery store.
My back up stock drawer is getting full. 4 more hours until a weekend off!
Enjoy that whole weekend off! Huzzah!
Enjoy your weekend! And bonus on the deals!
Glad you have a full we off after that inventory.
Corsica Furiosa! The one perfume that was too green even for me.
I tried Coquillete Ambrosia today and quite liked it. Sweet and sour cherry almond powder w/ vanilla.
Very happy the East coast has gotten better air quality in time for the weekend! ☀️
