Barneys New York x 5 ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 12 May 2023 6 Comments

Barneys New York Beauty has launched five new fragrances marking the 100th anniversary of the now defunct department store: 1923, Duvet Blanc, Flos Floris, Multiplicity and Quaintrelle.

An invitation to a new sensory experience designed with a trendy flair.

The five fragrances of Barneys New York Eau De Parfum are created with inspirations from Barneys New York Archive, which led New York’s fashion, arts, culture, and lifestyle by continuing innovative attempts for 100 years.

1923 ~ "The story of Barneys New York begins in 1923. The wife hands her husband their precious engagement ring to support his dream. With the money exchanged for the ring, the founder Barney Pressman opens his store with 40 designer suits. Barneys Eau De Parfum 1923 captures this heart-warming tale of how Barneys New York came into being. Exquisite black packaging that embodies Barneys New York windows. By seamlessly blending the heavy woody accord with addictive notes of Ambroxan and elegant scents of Jasmine, the woody musk fragrance leaves a warm and tender imprint." Developed by perfumer Karine Dubreuil.

Duvet Blanc ~ " Softy and silky, this fragrance stands out thanks to the refined Patchouli down to the weft that blends into the whiteness of the Lily of the Valley accord. Iris and white musk enhanced by aldehydes reinforce this feeling of soft, freshly washed linen, dried by a bright sun. Embedded in subtle white musk and powdery scents of lily of the valley, the heavy patchouli base keeps the overall balance of the floral woody fragrance. On a lazy weekend morning, taking a moment to enjoy the soft breeze and sunshine coming in from open windows. // “Duvet Blanc is a blend of delicate florals, giving you a soft and warm impression.” - Karine Dubreuil, Perfumer"

Flos Floris ~ "Roses and blackcurrant berries picked and brought together in the palm of your hand: the tangy green of blackcurrant leaves and buds, underlined by the floral intensity of the rose. A snapshot of nature to feel. With hints of orange blossom and jasmine, the floral green fragrance captivates with aromatic and sweet nuances from fresh blackcurrant leaves and mandarin.Early morning, in a stroll through Central Park, the leaves are glistening with dew; the scent is fresh and green like sunshine pouring through the leaves. // “Smelling the scent of Flos Floris, you might feel as if birds are chirping in your ear and water is flowing nearby.” - Dominique Preyssas, Perfumer"

Multiplicity ~ "Moving away from the customary focus on the front stage, the black-and-white visuals created a stark contrast between the quiet runway and bustling backstage. This bold contrast is conveyed in the fragrance of Multiplicity. The woody amber fragrance boasts an alluring blend of sensual musk and orris, contrasting against heavy notes of wood. A backstage full of tension, excitement, and passionate energy." Developed by perfumer Benoist Lapouza.

Quaintrelle ~ "A woody Aromatic fragrance, notes of cardamom, iris, violet, ambrox crackle in turn in the formula and bring to this alloy of smoking woods, spicy, leathery, musky tones and give this perfume its comfort. Both unisex and racy. Like his love for unhindered freedom of expression – a value upheld by Barneys New York – Quaintrelle embodies the Barneys spirit of embracing the diverse lifestyles in New York. The woody aromatic fragrance leaves a lasting aroma of smoky wood and leather that gently captures the elegant floral notes of cardamom and violet flower." Developed by perfumer Dominique Preyssas.

Barneys New York Beauty 1923, Duvet Blanc, Flos Floris, Multiplicity and Quaintrelle are available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, $148-$158 each.

      From https://www.retaildive.com/news/barneys-new-york-emerges-as-beauty-skincare-line/632003/

“Authentic Brands obtained Barneys New York’s intellectual property in 2019. At the time of the acquisition, the conglomerate said it would “leverage its international scale, marketing expertise, and network of best-in-class partners to grow Barneys’ presence as a global luxury retailer and lifestyle brand.”

Including all this because hey, there’s really no reason to think these have anything to do with what we think of as Barneys? And for that matter, Barneys mostly never did their own fragrances, just collaborations, although I think there was one Barneys fragrance early on.

That said, for all I know these are fantastic.

That just seems weird to me somehow. Of course, there are all kinds of commemorative fragrances out there.

I would bet anything there is vanilla in more than one of them.
