It’s Tuesday, National Pet Day and World Parkinson’s Day. RIP Lasse Wellander and Al Jaffee. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L'Eau du Gouverneur. Tea at the moment is Upton Jin Jun Mei, brewed with a few cocoa husks.
Reminder: on 4/14, for Pan American Day, wear a perfume named for a place in North or South America, with bonus points for places that aren't New York City.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is a John Bartlam teapot made in South Carolina in the late 1760s. Read more in The story behind the Met’s epic £460,000 auction battle for ‘America’s first china teapot’ at Antiques Trade Gazette or Made Before the Boston Tea Party, This Teapot Cost $800,000 at The New York Times, or see the teapot's description at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In a judicious application of Shalimar—->Mexique for N America.
It’s actually going to be in the low 70s today!
Signed up for emails from Fortnum & Mason, and got a message about their new coronation collection today. Here’s the mug~
https://www.fortnumandmason.com/fortnums-coronation-mug
I was expecting the worst regarding the coronation mug,but it’s actually quite pretty 🙌🏻🙌🏻🤣😉
Gosh, it is.
Oh, great idea to pick Shalimar Mexique. I have a tiny sample of it; I will steal your idea and wear it Friday!
Your link had me loping along to this wonder: https://www.fortnumandmason.com/fortnums-coronation-commemorative-two-handled-cup
At 1/10th the cost, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. 🙂 !
Thanks for the link. I would get the Tea for One set (if I were to get anything). The two handled mug – ummm…
That mug is really tempting.
Wow, am I first? If so, it’s because I’m in Japan on vacation, eating fabulous food and exhausted in my hotel room after a day of gallivanting. Scent is Eau du Métro. Yuck. I’m in Osaka now, but I’m also spending time in Kyoto and Tokyo.
I thought I’d come here and ask for advice for things to purchase! My primary goals are to pick up some hair conditioner (to fight frizz), hair oil, and face cream. But also, I want to buy anything pretty—ceramics, home decor, clothing, anything is fair game. Nothing too expensive, but nothing student-grade, either. I need things that will *last*. I know what great taste you perfumistas have, especially when it comes to hair/skincare, so I thought I’d ask you all! Thanks in advance for the recs 🙂
Ah, not first after all. Apparently I take many minutes to compose my posts on my phone when I’m half-asleep from jet lag.
Enjoy your trip!! I imagine Japan is gorgeous now.
I don’t have hair or skincare recommendations, but I’ve recently gone down the rabbit hole of vintage Shiseido perfumes (look at how gorgeous the bottles are! https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Interview-with-Perfumer-Tomoo-Inaba-and-Some-Rare-Shiseido-Perfumes-9091.html). I hear Japan has plenty of secondhand stores where vintage perfume hunting could be fun!
Another thing could be fun is Japanese incense and incense holders, especially if you can find a specialty store 🙂
Thanks for the idea! I can’t do incense, but I’ve passed a number of second-hand shops, so now I’ll definitely look out for those vintage Shiseidos!
Enjoy Japan, sounds amazing.
I heard good things about a Japanese hand cream from Makanai.
Thank you! I will look for that!
Have a great time Koyel!
Thanks, lillyjo! It’s been a blast so far!
When you’re in Tokyo you should consider a visit to the Ginza Itoya. Even if you’re not into stationery and such (yet), it will melt your brain: floor after floor of almanacs, hand-made paper, fountain pens and ink, every imaginable writing implement and aid. Japan takes writing by hand very seriously, and their stationery culture is astonishing. You can try out the fountain pens, and they range in price from practically free (a few bucks for a surprisingly excellent and durable Pilot Petit1) to astoundingly expensive (thousands of dollars for a handmade raden pen). Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s a real experience.
If you have a day free — unlikely, I know — you could consider a trip to Kamakura, only an hour outside Tokyo by train. It’s a charming little city with many temples and shrines, chief among them the humblingly immense bronze statue of the Great Buddha of Kamakura, well worth a visit.
I’d also find a yukata shop, because the cotton robes are not expensive and they make a fantastic souvenir of your trip — so comfortable, and such beautiful fabrics.
Ooooffff,Ginza Itoya sounds like my kind of vibe!
Thank you for the fantastic recs! I’ve been eyeing all the gorgeous stationery and haven’t bought any yet because there are too many gorgeous choices 🙂 but Ginza Itoya sounds magnificent! As does the idea of getting a yukata 🙂
Have a wonderful time in Japan, Koyel!
Thank you, pl67! I’ve loved every day so far!
Lucky you! And you were the first comment from Japan!
I’ll take whatever wins I can get 🙂
Oh I hope you have the best time!
Thanks, Coumarin! I have been having an incredible time so far!
Have a wonderful time, Koyel. I have not been to Japan, so I have no recommendations, but I love the ones suggested by other NSTers and especially Pyramus’s recs for stationery/writing implements and a yukata store.
Eat some delicious ramen for me!
Thanks, sp! We had ramen on our first full day in Japan, and it was incredible. Almost all the Dodd has been!
https://www.timeout.com/tokyo/shopping/where-to-buy-or-make-indigo-products-in-tokyo
As well as Pyramus’ great paper and pen suggestion, I would look for indigo fabrics
Thanks, Kanuka! I saw some indigo works in a couple shops but before this trip, I had had no idea that indigo was historically important in Japan!
How exciting Koyel, make the most of it and definitely bring back incense from one of the Shoyeido stores, Bois de Jasmin articles on incense are useful.
Oh fun! I will definitely go and give them a sniff 🙂 though probably I won’t buy anything, since incense gives me a headache.
Hope you are having a great vacation, Koyel!
Thank you, ringthing, I am! Japan has been great!
I’ve heard that Japanese sunscreens are some of the best in the world. Maybe a helpful SA can offer concrete suggestions?
Oooh good idea, thanks!
Enjoy your trip. If you can get to the Guerlain boutique, maybe you can purchase the Japan only perfumes (bottle!).
I have only been to Tokyo International In Transit so there was nothing other than Eau de Airport.
Thanks hajusuuri! I had forgotten that there were Guerlain Japan exclusives!
Went through my collection and found 5 things that are named after places, so that’s a week’s worth, but only one named after any place in the Americas, so I’m saving that for Friday. Today is 1987-vintage Rochas Byzance, the French name for Byzantium, and even though it’s one of those massive tuberose orientals that showed up in the wake of Dior Poison, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever smelled — a dazzling peridot-green opener exploding with aldehydes, then a dense, complex floral oriental that never settles down into any one thing. They really don’t make them like this any more.
Byzance is beyond spectacular. So glad I also have a vintage stash although I don’t wear it that often!
Byzance is incredible, one of the very best of the 80’s powerhouses.
You smell wonderful. Byzance is very special to me.
Does anyone know if the current version of Byzance is at all recognizable/aka worth trying? I love Dior Poison so I’m curious about Byzance.
It’s completely changed. It’s very modern, with pear and musks and “blonde woods”, and has nothing in common with the original other than the name. They can say it’s a “modern update” of the original, but anyone who ever smelled the original would beg to differ.
Thank you!
I am in Bois Tabac Virginia by Le Jardin Retrouve for the CP! Lightly powdery, astringent and bitter in a herbal manner.
I’ve also been organizing my collection in preparation for the upcoming swapmeet. So far I will have bottles of Chanel No 5 EDC (vintage), Kilian Moonlight in Heaven, Hermes Vanille Galante, Di Ser Mizu up for swapping. Will have to go through my travel and decants next.
Excellent pick!
I’m wearing the last of a decant of Calligraphy Saffron, my favorite of the three Calligraphy scents. Unfortunately, I believe that it is discontinued.
There’s a bottle on eBay, but it isn’t cheap.
Rats! I had a sample of it a couple of years ago and had idly put it on my “check at the discounters” list. Very slack of me if it’s now only at crazy resale prices…
I can still pick up a 9ml decant at one of my favorite decanters.
I’m in 31 rue Cambon to be professional today. Only half CP points, I guess — it’s a place, at least. I have to actually go to the office today and meet my new boss while he’s in town. I don’t even know what he looks like, as he never turns on his camera, so I guess that’ll be my surprise for the day.
I love that scent! I think is is very elegant and yes, professional.
People not turning on their camera is annoying to me, especially if they are facilitating the call. What do they do when they’re in the office?
Ha! I’m of the opposite opinion. Pre-COVID half my day was phone calls. Now I’m having the same conversations but because it is over Zoom or Teams, people turn on their cameras, and my reaction is “you and I didn’t need to see each other’s faces in 2019, why do we have to now?”
We’ve had so many video calls over the years that I don’t even know why we have phones.
I think a lot has to do with context these days. If you are on the East Coast, and you’ve invited me to a call at 7 or 8 a.m. my time, please do not expect me to be on camera (yes, I am in my PJs and I may be eating breakfast while on the call…but I AM on your call and functional). But…if it’s a one on one meeting and we are located in different places and rarely see each other IRL…turn on your camera. Big meetings? Turn on your camera if you are presenting or speaking. Otherwise, not necessary.
I pretty much don’t accept meetings before 8am Eastern but if I have a choice (and I usually do), I will just WFH.
I’m in dabbing of Profumum Neroli, from one of several samples that arrived with my bottle of Alba. Neroli is a slightly spicy, neroli-and-green-notes scent, and it’s very pleasant, but I don’t think I’ll need more of it.
At least it’s pleasant! I do love neroli in general.
I am wearing Mon Guerlain to calm me down because we lost electricity again last night, happily it was back when I woke up.
I am afraid now to fill my fridge and freezer in case it goes again.
So glad it was there in the morning though!
Oh no! I bought more frozen food too, crossing fingers my power holds up.
Oy vey! What a pain about that power outage.
Galop d’Hermes
Fabulous stuff.
In Frederic Malle En Passant for another day of lilacs.
I am off from work today to decompress. I took a long walk in my neighborhood early this morning to enjoy the beauty of many trees and plants in bloom. I am missing my doggie Yei terribly, because he was my faithful companion on my spring walks.I am running some errands now, and later I will grab a cup of coffee and a sandwich from my local coffee shop before heading to the park to spend part of the afternoon there. We are having a gorgeous sunny day in the mid 70’s!
Happy Tuesday! 🌞
Enjoy your gorgeous sunny day!🌞🌞🤗🌹
Thank you, J B! I am! 🌞🪻🌷🌻
Enjoy your day friend 🌞
Thank you, Lillyjo! We are having a perfect day today! 🌞🌞🌞
It sounds like a perfect day, I understand about missing Yei, I still think of my cat Schnooky but we gave our pets a happy life.
We have the satisfaction that we did everything possible for them to be happy. I hope they felt all our love for them.
Its hard the change of seasons without our little ones. They could be St. Bernards and still be little to me.
It is hard. I miss the walks and craziness of even getting the harness on she was so excited.
Yei also gave you a reprieve from other difficulties. I’m sorry, PL67, I bet Yei misses you just as much.
I am still having very tough days when I remember and miss Yei terribly. I want to believe that one day we will meet and cross the rainbow bridge together. 🌈🐕🚶♀️
I’m sorry. It is very difficult when our angels aren’t by our side. Believe. I can’t wait to see my girl again. Can’t wait! Hope I make it.🙏
Hugs as you remember Yei on this lovely spring day.
Thank you, Cazaubon. 🌻Beautiful memories of Yei were with me, while I enjoyed the day outside.
Hugs to you as you remember Yei.
Thank you, Jalapeno. Hugs are very welcome! 🌻
Sending more hugs your way, PL67, and the hope that time will help tip the balance of thoughts of Yei from missing him to memories that bring joy.
Thank you, Vee. 🌻
Sending you hugs as you remember Yei.
Thank you, Gail.🌻
Another overcast day here and I am cheering myself up with the spring lilies in VC&A Lys Carmin.
I had to look up your sotd. It sounds beautiful.
I hope you get some sunshine soon.
I just grabbed the Dior Homme edp again this morning,a no-brainer crowdpleaser. This 3-day workweek can be over already, please and thank you!
1 more day!
Almost there! You can do it!
Hello all!
Trying to avoid nodding off in class today in Lipstick Rose. I got up extra early to have car repairs done. Thankfully it’s done but my day is not! Counting the hours till I’m home. 🙈
Have a great day everyone.
Hope it goes quickly and you’re resting with your feet up soon 🙂
After not wearing Coco Mademoiselle After a while, that’s my SOTD.
You smell great!
Continuing my incense week with Nez 1+1 Adorem to stay cozy on this gray PNW day.
Getting bluer! How do you like Adorem?
☀️ I really like it, especially the balance of smoky incense and cocoa. Cozy dozy!
Incense and cocoa? That’s an unusual combo.
I’m not usually a cocoa fan but Fabrice Pellegrin got it just right.
Good Morning!
Am in LBM by Jo Malone again- the freshness is needed during this week’s atmospheric river.
I don’t have any scents named after anywhere in North America, which is a shame! I need to find some!
I am desperately trying to find my sample of Miami Glow, but I may have to do Paris*LA which seems sort of a cheat. I do have Clementine California as another back up, or Lonestar Memories.
Ah ha! Okay- I think I have Miami Glo as a body spray somewhere!
Au Coeur du Desert today, applied last night before bed and will re-up this morning. No deserts around here. Just rain, rain, and more rain. It hasn’t stopped but will occasionally slow down enough so I can get doggo out to potty without her getting soaked.
I’ve missed the Arizona sunshine so much this winter. I’ve already decided that I will do one more contract after my current one to take me through summer, then I will take all of fall and winter off to gallivant the SW. I’ve been wanting to thoroughly explore NM since forever and come hell it high water, I mean to do it this fall and winter! I’ve said it out loud (sort of) and now I must follow through. 🙃
I’m waiting for multiple eagles to 💩 and I plan on stashing it all away to help fund my time off. Thank you Arizona! Thank you Oregon! Thank you Washington! Thank you federal government! I cry every time I get paid because of the taxes (I don’t even claim myself to the max is taken out) but it’s always a pick-me-up to get some back and squirrel it away! 💰💸💵
Actually, no thanks to Washington since they don’t have a state income tax.
I love NM. That sounds perfect. Do it.
Sounds like a great plan! I always had to claim zero withholding and sometimes even an extra amount withheld so I sympathize.
It *does* snow in parts of NM during the winter. They got clobbered this past year. So hopefully you will avoid that.
What an interesting teapot story, and what intriguing decoration with the pair of exotic birds( pelicans, Storks, herons…?). Thanks for the links. So, we are on about day 20 000 of drizzle and sodden mess, mist and bedraggled sparrows, wet dog smells and piles of dirty washing. You could argue that it’s beautifully melancholy…low cloud, the glorious scent of fallen leaves, bright patches of colour from berries in holly trees, a mirror-smooth harbour shining silver under the endless grey cloud….lucky I have some good books. Also lucky that it turns out there are a lot of odd place names in North America that can be manipulated to tie in with perfumes. But today I’m going to Canada with Daphne ( sorry Daphne, Alabama). Daphne Island on the Athabasca river, Alberta named after the daughter of a surveyor and no relation of Daphne Guinness or anything to do with CDG.
Ahh, they’re cranes!
https://www.woolleyandwallis.co.uk/news/news/john-bartlam-teapot-a-talk-by-nicholas-panes/
An eight minute talk about the pot
Thanks Robin, so cool.
Very cool.
Find out when the first teapot was made in New Zealand, and if there’s a picture it can be a Teapot Tuesday. I tried for Canada but gave up, was probably not doing the best search terms.
https://images.app.goo.gl/bR9JWbbB8Z3F7oBz5
Not the first but probably the most, close to where I am
How cool! Will work on finding an unrestricted image.
Love the description of your autumn, you have a way with words.
Same! But I am not a fan of living through the actual time of “beautifully melancholy” 😉
Sorry about the dreich. We are cloudy and windy, but not wet today. Still feeling off and slightly discombobulated.
Ordered a bunch of designer brand samples from fragrance.net recently. Got about 20…like 2 of them maybe. Nothing I would wear regularly. The one of the three I like most so far is Angel Aqua Chic. Probably because i already like Angel and this is Angel with the volume dialed down from 11 to 5. The others are Comptoir Sud Pacific Vanille Abricot and Vanille Blackberry. Those are super likable.
Examples of the samples that I got and didn’t enjoy: multiple Versace women scents – all too screechy on my skin. Several Miss Dior versions, all too sickly sweet on my skin. Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Garden, which had too much coconut which I can only enjoy in Bronze Goddess.
One I like okay is Givenchy Live Irresistible Rosy Crush, but there’s a lot of pepper which gets overwhelming quickly.
Another I liked was Gucci Accenti, I don’t know if I would wear it regularly but it was a fun time travel to the 90s. I never wore it then, but it is so 90s in its plush quality that I closed my eyes and saw my old floral tapestry bedspread and heard the Friends theme song.
In person I also tried Kayali Yum Pistachio 33 or whatever the full name is, lol. Surprised myself by really liking it! Enough to buy a purse spray – and since sold out on Sephora in that size I went to the Huda Beauty website directly. Threw a few other samples in the cart to get free shipping, so looking forward to those arriving next week.
I have always loved Accenti. I have a couple of samples but always on the lookout for a decent priced bottle.
Yum Pistachio is very enjoyable. I saw it was done by Olivier Cresp.
I am not usually a gourmand person, maybe 10% of gourmands work for me (they often make me nauseous which is unfortunate – am not a snob!). And the last pistachio scent I tried was the Laura Mercier one, which was overwhelmingly sweet and I had to wash it off quickly. That was maybe 10 years ago and I am just now brave enough to try another pistachio – and so glad I did!
One of my friends is Very into gourmands, so it is fun to share a few crossover scents 😀
I recognized the name Olivier Cresp but just did deep dive on his work – thanks for pointing that out so I could familiarize myself with his lineup! I forgot he did Angel, Modern Muse, Light Blue, Black Opium, Kenzo Amour – just to name 1% of his work lol.
It sounds like you had fun sampling even though many were passes.
It’s definitely fun – and I have a friend who runs her own fragrance blog and she is always happy to rehome the samples that don’t work for me into her library. We hang out for a day every few months, I bring over what I’ve collected to pass along and a handful from my own collection that I think she hasn’t tried yet. Then I have free reign in her collection to sample whatever I want there. We also make a massive smorgasbord and nosh all day while chatting and smelling. It’s the best.
How fun!
I like Angel Aqua Chic, you’re right about it being dialed down. Pretty lemon note too.
Hi nebbe, before you buy any CSP Vanille Abricot, let me know and I will send you some. I ended up with more than I can use after a sale at Essenza. l e s l i c o r t h e l l atttt geee male dotty commie
You are now the third person with a positive review/comment about that Kayali.
Wish I would have grabbed a bottle of the Angel Aqua Chic when it was everywhere to be found. But I didn’t like it then!
Good haul on the samples. Will have to look out for some of those, especially the pistachio.
Smoothie is mandarins and yogurt
I spent the day in Voyage parfum, a love because of the cardamom and tonight it’s Angel Muse EDT, parfum is still going strong and it’s a surprsingly good combo.
Ooo that all sounds wonderful!
It’s a surprise the two go so well together, happy accident.
Muse.😍
In Fève Délicieuse, what is evidently my last decant: somehow I’d ended up buying three of them. This was before being informed, here, of its resemblance to VCA Orchidee Vanille, which in fact I might like better than FD.
3 decants is time for a FB if you didn’t find something better 🙂
There may be similarities although I find FD to be more tonka-forward while OV is brighter and more well-rounded. I like them both. Also, apparently FD has gone through reformulation; I have the older version.
Next on my incense week is Bond 9 Silver Factory. Love this one, I’m so glad I found a partial bottle at a good price.
Mr ringthing has food poisoning and wow, is he sick. We won’t have lab results for another couple of days but whatever he ate, I’m glad I didn’t eat it too!
You smell great! I highly recommend homeopathic Arsenicum Album for food poisoning.
Ooooooooof. Food poisoning sucks SO much!
I loved Silver Factory until I didn’t – I think I gave mine away.
I hope Mr. ringthing recovers well and soon!
Oh no! Hope he gets better quickly.
Lush Death and Decay.
Recent enough purchase and named after many places in the U.S.
Cheery?
Miss the zoomies and my face full of kisses. Hold your pets close and snuggle the slobber out of them. 💜
Hugs.
I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, but would you ever get another companion animal again? Or does it hurt too much?
There have been a few almosts. Emergency euthanasia cases I have had sent to me, a scam that a shelter was pushing (long story) and a few at my shelter.
Each case has worked out great for the little beings. And me.
I don’t know about the future, but I really miss that little rascal so much.
You sound like jalapeno, not a jerk.🤗
I have enough self awareness to realize that asking about that sort of thing could be painful. Every grief is its own creature, with its own characteristics.
Thanks.
Oy! I hope it’s in name only (at least no recent events).
Yes!
Death and Decay was just typical weird Lush.
Cemetaries, cities in decay, death of infrastructure. Any sort of something that can fit the cp.
Just happened to fall on National Pet’s Day.😣
Sending hugs, Annie! 🐕
Hugging back!🐕🐕
Sending more hugs your way, AnniePerfumes
Thank you, Vee. All 17 lbs of her would have barreled you over for kisses and a belly rub.
Wow! I am accidentally on point (if you ignore the Old World roots of the name) in Jersey. Wearing it with equanimity, knowing once it is finished I will replace it with Boy, which I prefer.
Aha, Jersey! That’s a decent accident.
Really, whose to say which Jersey it is named after? 😂
Cuddling with my furry baby on the couch and thinking of those of us who are missing ours. Wearing Anima Dulcis.
Also, I am already bored and tired of shopping for a stove. Seems like no matter which one you read about, 15% of the reviews are horrific. I am afraid to buy anything right now.
Do you have access to Consumer Reports? They may be a better source of info that isn’t all gloom and doom.
I didn’t want to pay to get the info, but I did see in reviews online that the model I’m considering was well rated.
What do your friends have and are they happy with it? Sometimes, you’re better off with a one burner camping stove while you decide.
I have a stove that works, so I’m not in a desperate hurry. I just want to settle on something and find a good deal.
Do you want gas or electric? I have both and love both, and they are not the same manufacturers.
I have had both. Right now I’m looking at gas since we just had a six day power outage and it was nice to have the stove functional, although in general I prefer a ceramic cooktop for ease of cleaning.
I have a Kenmore gas five burner stove in Portland and a smooth top induction from Samsung in Honolulu.
Thanks! They don’t have Kenmore up here but they do have Samsung.
If it helps, I adore our Samsung gas oven/stove, and I’ve had it 5 years or so and it did have some iffy reviews when I bought it.
Less moody today, so that’s an improvement. Got the Federal taxes filed; we are getting a bit of $$$ back. However, we owe State taxes, so those get filed at the last minute.
Teflon was snuggled with me this morning in bed per her usual, and sometimes Spooky will join me on the couch at night.
SOTD = Dame Mate, Heliotrope & Patchouli EdT, from the Sample Stash.
Hooray for Federal taxes. Your kittehs sound so cute!
Instead of starting my tax returns, I ended up booking my train journey to Boston and back. I was also going to reserve my hotel room but OMG, since when is a regular room (with taxes and fees, etc.) $500 a night? Holy moley!
Yeow! on the hotel room! That’s nuts.
Seriously. I remember when hotels were $200 a night and that was expensive already!
On our way back home, we paid the crazy rates for hotels! But we had no choice so it was a bit painful.
I have to consider for how long I’ll be inside the hotel and for this trip, I have not decided how late I’ll be out gallivanting.
$500?
When is your trip again?
Realistically 2 full days – May 18-19
Cat cuddles sound heavenly <3 Glad you got taxes done! I definitely screamed out loud several times while getting mine done, thank goodness its over!
There are some days where those cat cuddles are THE saving grace.
Dame Mate Heliotrope & Patchouli is one I am sampling too. Very Nice. I love his fragrances. Currently Have Ginger Lily on the way to me from his sale.
I have a sample of Ginger Lily in the oil that I have yet to try.
Glad you got the taxes done!
I personally don’t consider them done until either the refund arrives, or the check to pay them is sent out. But that’s just me. The worst is over, lol.
Glad your taxes are done. And kitty cuddles are the best!
Happiness is a purring cat! It’s one of the best noises in the world, IMO.
So glad things are brighter today Jalapeno!
Yay for taxes completed! And $$$$ back!
Glad today was a better one. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt to have Teflon and Spooky as accessories.
Glad it’s a more positive day, well done on taxes, I’m in love with Teflon and Spooky.
SOTD = Kilian Angels’ Share
Inspired by Deva! I am too lazy to make a post but may post something else. Strangely, I have a surplus of pictures.
So, I got into a rabbit hole today of work-adjacent stuff. I was reading an FAQ on appropriate “business” attire and crocs were maligned and relegated to the dust heap of what NOT to wear. IMHO, that’s utter nonsense to put in a blanket statement. Anyway, while searching through additional documents, I saw the following:
Acceptable – Minimal tasteful jewelry and fragrances
Not acceptable – Excessive jewelry or excessive use of fragrances
… and here I thought we were a No Fragrance company. It makes me wonder though who is the arbiter of minimal versus excessive 🤔
“Acceptable fragrance” = stuff the author likes
“Not Acceptable fragrance” = stuff the author does NOT like
So very subjective!!
It truly is very subjective.
I wonder what excessive jewelry entails too, will I get kicked out for wearing 3 necklaces and 5 rings and 2 bracelets? Hahaha
This seems par for the course 🤣. Just kidding. The policy has changed over time. I did not see it but we used to have something about No dangling earrings longer than x inches.
HaHa!
So true what Jalapeño said about acceptable fragrance being what the author likes.
I remember it was less than a decade ago the main hospital in which I round had a poster set up demonstrating unacceptable attire by staff. Included were tattoos, piercings, unusual color hair. They could NEVER do that now, they would lose 50% of their nurses. And really, who cares what someone is wearing when they are attending to you when you are sick.
IIRC, we had a no visible tattoo policy, which now says no visible offensive tattoo.
Wearing Sammarco Bond T from a sample. Thinking this is FB worthy but would.love to get a decant first. Non to be found though.
Just looking at Luckyscent…at least it comes in 30 ml.
My sotd is YSL In Love Again.
There is not much going on here today, thank goodness.
Sometimes “not much going on” is the best thing.
Profound words.
You smell great!
Glad you had a quiet day, lillyjo!
Glad you had a quiet day!
Wearing a sample of PdN Caravansérail Intense. Dark roasted coffee beans and cardamom are the most prominent. It has a dry, scratchy texture, like ground coffee. The immortelle provides a hint of sweetness, but given that immortelle isn’t all that sweet to begin with, it is a small hint and the overall impression is a black, spiced coffee with no sugar at all. There is a hint of plum at the end of each whiff, and it gives the impression of licorice, but blink and you miss it. At first I thought the patchouli was strong, but now it isn’t standing out to my nose.
Tea today was more of the Amsterdam Mélange. Wishing I had gotten a larger bag of it, but space was at a premium in my suitcase.
Does that tea place ship overseas? Or are the shipping rates extortionate?
Yes and yes. I have colleagues who have to travel to our European HQ regularly. I’m tempted to see if I can have the tea shipped there (because shipping rates with the EU are reasonable) and have one of them mule it home for me.
Wow, that sounds good.
Have you tried Cardoman Coffee?
I haven’t. It sounds like they are similar, with the PdN being the unsweetened version
Rosa Sur Reuse today. Gorgeous day that went up to 80°and sunny. Yay!
Nice…we got 73 but I can’t wait for 80.
Wearing sample of Essential Parfums Mon Vetiver. I can barely smell it.
Aw, that’s a shame on the “is it here or not?” sample.
