Happy Almost-Friday! It's also New Beer’s Eve and Tartan Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
No gardenia for me today, but I did go white floral, in Le Labo Lys 41.
Reminder: on 4/7, for Billie Holiday’s birthday, wear gardenia, or wear one of her favorite perfumes (Coty Emeraude and Bourjois Evening in Paris) or wear a fragrance inspired by her (Serge Lutens Une Voix Noire, Maria Candida Gentile Lady Day, Strange Invisible Perfumes Lady Day, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Don't Explain, to name a few).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is 梔子屬 Gardenia vietnamensis [香港迪欣湖 Inspiration Lake, Hong Kong] [cropped] by 阿橋 HQ at flickr; some rights reserved. [I am pretty sure these are not true gardenias despite the name, but apparently they are related and they do smell like gardenias.]
Robin I read your tweet about Fragrance Foundation awards, so I am in Gris Charnel. Even though the Extract won the award, I think they should be similar. So I smell like Figs and Tea
Sipping Violet Black tea
Back to the library today. I am there so much this month!
Makeup will be something springy
Then I’m sure you smell great! Enjoy another library day 🙂
Hi NST! I’m copying people from yesterday’s sotd in DSH Chinchilla. I would not have guessed there’s gardenia in there but it smells wonderful.
Good enough then!
I’m in Givenchy Gentleman (1974). This is from a decant from a bag I was emptying out, so I have no idea when I bought it. I’m not sure why I bought it, but it was probably for the combination of honey and rose in the top notes.
So do you like it?
I’m in Costes EDT for my ongoing incense week. I find Costes very soothing but difficult to classify — it definitely contains an incense note, but somehow, despite having no citrus notes, it reminds me of the clove-studded oranges my mom and I used to make. Apparently there is a clove note in there, but I can’t separately identify it.
Costes is such an interesting fragrance. I have the body lotion and I love it!
You’re smelling wonderful, SherG!
Gardenia-adjacent in Sotto la Luna Tuberose. I’m sipping coffee and wishing I were back in bed. Today’s going to be a long one.
Oh yes, it’s going to be a mega-coffee day. Time for my next cup…
Just hold that image of your welcoming bed in the back of your mind today.
At least the weekend is almost here!
Scent: AG Le Chevrefeuille on one arm, DSH Pamplemousse on the other. My skin will finish off the Pamplemousse pdq.
Tea: Harney White Vanilla Grapefruit
Weather: Cool, but sunny.
Currently: Pet sitting my sister’s pets – a Cavalier King Charles Cocker Spaniel and a Ragamuffin cat. We’ve been mostly pet-free for over a year (ignoring when my kids bring their pets through), so it’s a change of pace!
Is the Cavalier King Charles Cocker Spaniel a mixed breed? I ask because my brother had two (well, three because the play date of the same breed ended up staying with them long-term) but we always called the breed without Cocker.
Ah, both your arms smell great!
I’ve heard that Ragamuffin cats are very laid back.
I’m in Diptyque L’Eau Papier, which I’m sampling. Since it’s Tartan Day I’ll wear one of my Jo Malone Highland collection fragrances later, which I’m also sampling. (It’s also National Burrito Day!🌯)
I have seen Leau papier mentioned a lot. Tell me more about your SOTD please
Wearing Piper&Perro’s Arid, on a very soggy day.
Perfect!!
Wearing Fendi Furiosa and cp compliant although I don’t think I notice the gardenia note. Busy day of cleaning, baking and prep for houseguest then party tomorrow eve.
Furiosa is a delight! Yay for the business and fun of hospitality 🙂
Adding that it’s also National Walking Day and sadly, I will not be doing my usual 3 – 4 mile walk today. I’ll make it up this weekend!
I walked enough around the library for you and me today.
Ha – thanks!
I’ll have to research my perfume stash to find a gardenia,I’m all out of Truth or Dare and I gave away my EL Tuberose Gardenia.
SOTD!
Mancera Tonka Cola.Big bold coca-cola note, with cinnamon-y goodness and what seems a well done amber drydown.Perfect Fall fragrance.
XO’s🌹
Yum, I love cola fragrances!
Oh then you should really try this one!Not too overly sweet either!
Gosh, and I literally forgot all about the EL, which I own!
I never wore it,and of course after I gave it away I started to really get into tuberose fragrances….instant regret!
Isn’t that the way?
Doing some errands today in Nasomatto Nuda today before the holiday seriously kicks into gear.
Hope you got it all done Dawn!
Hello all!
No gardenia today but I feel ready for a show in the original Dolce and Gabbana with the red cap. It’s a gargantuan floral with aldehydes and a rather lovely herbal bitterness. The sillage is one of the most intense I’ve had in awhile. Probably closest to Boucheron pour femme but a bit lighter on the base.
Have a great day everyone!
Ready for the show is enough, right? Hope your day was excellent.
I’m wearing Timbuktu at the moment but tomorrow I’ll be digging out my Boutonnière no. 7 bottle for the CP. I think it’s the only gardenia perfume in my collection and I love it so much when I remember to wear it.
I am thinking of MCG Lady Day, but maybe I’ll pull out the Estee Lauder.
Wearing Mona di Orio Myrrh Casati for my incense week. Very fleeting scent that didn’t last more than an hour on my skin. Peppercorn, cardamom, benzoin, incense, followed by a sweet myrrh drydown. I didn’t like it much, but I will finish my sample when I get home tonight.
Thank you for all your comments and supporting words yesterday about my mother’s health. I am mentally struggling with the outcome, and I just hope to achieve acceptance and peace very soon. I pray vehemently for it.
Partly sunny morning with temperatures in the upper 70’s. Expecting rain later this afternoon. The roller coaster continues. It will drop again to the lower 50’s tomorrow. Coffee and a couple of chocolate pudding flavored Peeps to keep my energy going.
Happy Thursday! 🌻
Happy Thursday PL67!
My thoughts are with you and your mom during these very challenging times. Hugs to you.
Thank you, Adanst.
Please tell me the Peeps are filled with chocolate pudding! Lol. The only non regular Peeps I see here are Red Hot Peeps which do not sound good to me.
Lol! I wish they were filled with chocolate pudding, but still are very good! I got the Red Hot Peeps last year, and they didn’t meet my expectations. The only flavor I only see here these days is the Party Cake, which I do not like. No much variety anymore.
Remember that grief has its own schedule, and that it is OK to be not OK.
Thank you, Jalapeno. I have been very depressed lately, but I will eventually come to terms with all this painful situation. God will provide.
Continuing my Mugler kick this week in Angel edt from the “standing star,” so no CP points. Looking forward to everyone’s choices tomorrow. My Mother was always called Billie. My parents had a big collection of 78rpm jazz and big band records, and as a kid I remember thinking Billie Holiday must be wonderful because she had the same name as mom. Mother never let on about the Lady Miss Holiday’s troubled life. She just told us kids that she was beautiful and talented.
The old formulation of Angel EdT was excellent.
I love that you thought she must be wonderful because she had the same name as your mom! That is faith 🙂
Yesterday got totally away from me and I never got around to wearing anything, but today I am in Pulp. The sprayer hit my fabric watchband, so I may be smelling it a good long time.
Tomorrow I am spoiled for choice, being a lover of BWFs and gardenia in particular, though it comes second to tuberose. I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s picks so I can find some new (to me) scents.
Pulp is big enough for 2 days 🙂
It rained overnight but the day was sunny mostly and the air is mild.
I chose Mandorlo Di Sicilia which I like as much for its soft citrus as for the almond and tonight it’s Franck Boclet Vanille and again it’s the citrus that makes this one a winner.
We have rain right now, so hope we get sunny and mild tomorrow. I have not even looked at the forecast.
Fingers crossed for good weather.
Thanks for all the kind and supportive messages yesterday about my uncle. So much appreciated! My headache is gone today, but I’m very much still in a reflective mood.
No gardenias so far for me this week, but I will hunt for my sample of Chanel Gardenia tomorrow. That one is supposed to not smell much like gardenias though, right? It’s been too long since I’ve tried it. I also have a sample of Cruel Gardenia, but I don’t remember liking it too much.
I didn’t get to comment yesterday. I am sending positive thoughts to your uncle and family.
Adding my well wishes for your uncle and your family.
I am wearing Sisley Eau 3 and drinking a cup of linden tea.
While babysitting my granddaughter today, I took her in the backyard. My daughter has two lovely gardenia bushes growing in her backyard. So my granddaughter, who is now four months old, and I got to enjoy the smell of the gardenias today.
What a peaceful and lovely image that is. I’m sure she enjoyed it!
Joining you in a cup of linden tea. One of my favorites.
I also have a couple of gardenia bushes in my back yard but they are far from blooming. In fact, as I’m typing this I am glancing over and noticing they are nor even green yet, which is a little concerning. I hope the freezing temps did not kill them.
How lovely you got to spend time with your granddaughter!
That sounds like a wonderful scented interlude with your granddaughter. 😊
That’s a sweet story, Barqs. It’s those kinds of memories that little ones really remember the most.
Not with the CP. I am wearing Sous le Vent today. It doesn’t have a lot of lasting power, so in fact I might go upstairs and re-apply.
My painter gave me some rather stern words about the importance of keeping ALL cats out of the kitchen NOW–while the paint is drying. It’s surprisingly difficult. The minute I go out there to get something out of the fridge, a cat or two sneak through as well. Then the chase begins. Cat hair in wet white paint won’t be pretty.
Oooooof. Good luck with the cat wrangling!
Hopefully they will leave you some paint in case you find a stray cat hair later and have to sand it out 🙂
Posting a little late today for one of the best reasons. I went and visited a friend today, and we gabbed for a few hours. I hadn’t seen her since January. Felt good to socialize.
Ridiculously warm weather here today. My phone app said that it was 84 degrees at one point this afternoon. Those are summer temps! Waiting for a cold front and possible storms to roll thru later on tonight.
SOTD = Passage d’Enfer, again. Sample thunked!
I’m glad to hear you had a nice visit.
You are officially a Thunking Machine!
Thanks! I think my string of sample thunks might be over with, though.
I am wearing Jour de Hermes for work tonight. I so wish I had chosen Vintage Poison though, as I am wanting to keep people away from me.
I am taking a personal day tomorrow to spend some of spring break with my daughter.
Enjoy your time off with your daughter!
Yeah, vintage Poison would have been the way to go.
But Yay for time off spent with your daughter tomorrow!
Your vintage Poison sounds lovely.
SOTD = Parfum Satori Satori
I decided to join some NSTers in wearing Incense and so here we are!

I submitted my jury duty deferral request last night and voila, I got the acceptance today. I was able to choose my date but only after exhausting the months closer to May so my new date is November 13. Color me impressed with the excellent client service!
Did I mention I am giving away some of my pandemic SPAM to co-workers? In the way back machine, when no one knew what the deal was with COVID-19 other than its deadly consequences (and not that we know much more now), I stocked up on some food items and TP, let’s not forget that, one of which was a Costco-sized SPAM. They are all expiring this month; however, I know it lasts much longer than the stated Best By date. I am keeping a few cans and the rest I will bring to the office. I am definitely sure I have 2 takers. Surprisingly, some have never had SPAM and I said they are deprived 🤣.
Yay for a successful deferral!
And it’s kind of sad to admit, but when I read “pandemic SPAM”, I first thought of email. 🙄
I did the same, Jalapeno! I couldn’t figure out how that was gonna work. 😂
Yay for a successful deferral!
And it’s kind of sad to admit, but when I read “pandemic SPAM”, I first thought of email. 🙄
Wow, that’s a nice deferral time frame. And Spam…wonderful fried in a nonstick pan with a smidge of brown sugar. 😋
Spam! Fried in a pan with a little butter, then a little honey, a can of pineapple tidbits and some lime juice!! With wild rice and broccoli… yum!
I’m in Baiser de Russie, from an older decant. It’s held up well, and is wearing nicely this cool, rainy evening. 🌧
Took me awhile to remember what I sprayed on this morning. Did extra work hours today since tomorrow is a market holiday, so was at the computer from 8:30-5:30, with about 20 min for lunch. Whew!
Anyhoo….I just sniffed my arm and got a sense of something light, fresh, floral. Then I remembered! Idylle Love Blossom. I should wear this more often. It’s lovely and easy. Maybe for Easter. It’s gotten colder again but is sunny. So maybe tomorrow will be a good day for a walk. We may get snow on Saturday. But then it’ll warm up.
In Rogue Perfumery Jasmin Antique for my week of indolic jasmine.
