It's World Bartender Day, plus, Steampunk Friday! Our community project for today: do whatever you like with the steampunk theme. Suggested by JB and seconded by a bunch of other readers. (And if you need inspiration for this project, see JB's comment here.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Prada Homme / Prada Man, which struck me as the perfect retro-modern fragrance to go with the D&G fashions shown above (Prada had lots of similar steampunk-ish men's fashion campaigns, but I was taken with this image).
Reminder: 3/3 is World Wildlife Day. This year's theme: Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation. Wear a fragrance from a brand making an effort in the arena of biodiversity protection (you should have plenty of choice).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Danny Schwarz, Govan Baird, Jakob Hybholt, Philipp Bierbaum and Issa Tomaleh for Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009.
Wearing Aura for the CP, both lotion and edp. I had no idea what to wear for the CP this week and it’s been fun to read everyone’s choices and suggestions, it’s made me look at my collection with new eyes.
Happy Friday everyone!
Then the cp has done its job 🙂
Love it!
I had considered Womanity for the CP today, so there is something about TM perfumes as a whole that match up with the Steampunk genre.
I agree! That Womanity bottle is very steampunk, or..something 🙂
I am wearing Heretic’s Dirty Violet for the CP. I received a travel spray as a GWP – I never would have chosen it for myself, because violet is an iffy note for me. But it turns out I love violet leaf when combined with patchouli and leather.
I hope everyone has a terrific day!
Happy Friday sistine!
Your perfume sounds nice!
I just got an email from Heretic Perfumes announcing the arrival of “limited edition” of Dirty Violet. It sounds really intriguing to me. If it’s anything like Grey Flannel, I should at least try it.
https://www.theschooloflife.com/shop/tsol-press-who-am-i-journal/
Hi thereSistine. I came across this guided journal and thought of you as I think you were thinking of journaling. I don’t do journaling as such but I do keep a daily ( mostly nature) diary every day . One thing that I find very important is to actually write with pen/pencil on paper rather than digitally. There is a different way of putting thoughts to the page that comes with physical writing, ideas really do flow through the hand. So a good notebook and writing object is important. Also something that looks good, so you want to keep it. Then it’s all about creating a habit…like exercise. Memories are great triggers for the blank page.
Agree and love the way you put it (“a different way of putting thoughts to the page that comes with physical writing etc”).
Thanks! This looks great.
Mmm, your fragrance sounds sample-worthy, for sure.
Violet + Patch + Leather sounds great!
I’m in Hermann A Mes Cotes… I’m not sure if it fits the CP, but it is what I thought of when I thought of Steampunk. I considered Voleur de Roses and Fille en Aiguilles too, but decided to go with Hermann. I really liked Angela’s review where she describes it as dark, sheer, cool.
If you thought of it, it fits!
Having a ELO Rien week, and reading Bedlam Stacks, so very on track!
Someone mentioned Hervé Gambs earlier this week, and I wanted to say that there are at least two of us who know about him. I’d bought a couple of room sprays in a now-gone design store, and had been hoarding the bottle of Herbe Intense until I realized: no time like the present.
I really enjoyed Bedlam Stacks.
Ringthing put it into my head the other day that Mugler Aura was an excellent steampunk scent, so that’s what I’m wearing. It’s jarringly modern — fluorescent greenery and jungly flowers — but with an undertone of burnished warmth (more evident in the EDP than the EDT that I have).
Twins! 💚
Definitely something jarring in Aura.
Aura very much seems to be a steampunk scent – and you and ringthing smell wonderful. Like several of Mugler’s scents, the more I wear it, the more I like it. They all have interesting long-drydowns to my nose.
Hello all!
I could only wear one thing for today: Tauer’s Hyacinth and a Mechanic. It’s exactly like it says and it stays it forever. Never was one for overwrought steampunk but I was thinking of the anime Metropolis, a real classic.
Have a great day all!
What a great choice! Metal notes are spot on for this theme.
Excellent pick!
Such a wonderfully quirky fragrance – you smell great!
This perfume sounds like so much fun!
I like that idea — I may pull that one out! (Still commando…had to get the house ready for the cleaners and get out.)
Excellent pick! I thought of this one and would have worn it, if I had any!
I am wearing Estee Lauder Beautiful Magnolia Intense and drinking a cup of Apple Cinnamon Tea. Interestingly, to me anyway, when I checked to see which scent I wore the most in 2022, it was the one I am wearing today. I would have guessed Chanel No 5 or No 18, because I usually grab one of those when I cannot make up my mind. I find both of them easy to wear.
Happy Friday !
I cannot think what I wore most often, but it probably wouldn’t be my first guess either! I ought to keep track.
Magnolias are such a wonderful scent. I would love to try this perfume.
I reached for Bvlgari Black, for its burnt tar note and tire bottle design, but is there anything less steampunk than a legendary super expensive big gem jeweler catering to the super rich glitter lovers? (Not that I wouldn’t accept a gift if someone from the company wishes to bestow one).
Instead I am wearing Oberon Titania Pucj and Faeries Dancing by Black Pheonix Alchemy Labs
Ha, I think that is MOST steampunk after spending the week looking at images of steampunk designs from Dior / McQueen / D&G / Prada etc!
I think Black is perfect for the cp!
This was my original idea for today…hmm, now debating whether I’ll do this or Hyacinth & a Mechanic when I get home.
Was drawing a blank with today’s CP. I am currently in Andy Tauer’s Vanilla Flash. I keep hoping that Andy Tauer will do a jasmine perfume.
He does – Le Maroc pour Elle is a big jasmine scent.
Just because there’s something vaguely steampunk about Serge Lutens, am in Tubereuse Criminelle. Might top it off with Moon Bloom later.
The opening of TC is very steampunk, I think.
So happy to have a fellow TCer – It’s one of my favorite fragrances, definitely top 5.
I definitely see a connection with steam punk and uncle Serge!
I get a steam punk vibe from Lutens too. See my pick below. Although, also goth? Goth-y steam punk. Hahahaha!
I would never have thought of TC on my own, but now that you’ve mentioned it, it feels absolutely spot on!
That menthol blast of TC is very Steampunk!
I’m wearing Bvlgari Black today, which seems appropriate due to it’s eccentric leather-rubber notes that make me think of machinery.
Yep, it works!
Another great theme! I am really enjoying reading about all the choices.
I thought for steampunk, Hiram Green’s Hyde would fit the bill, because of its beastly leather note, but I cannot handle it on my skin due to the presence of my arch nemesis, vanilla. Kudos to whoever can pull it off.
Instead I went for leather plus char plus Victorian motifs: Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette and Moon Garden, “inspired by iridescent nights of Victorian era”. Yes, I mixed them both. Not gonna lie, at the moment the mix smells truly horrifying, the toluene / tolu balsam and tuberose top notes mixing with rose and leather in a heated engine oil kind of way, but that’s sounds pretty steam punk to me. It’s still a cacophony of leather and oil, but I am sure it will all settle down, like a giant dirigible descending to Earth.
To keep the space and sci-fi element to it, I was going to spray Aether Methaldone, “the scent of space”, on top, to boost the metallic rose oxide quotient, but I just could not find the bottle. Maybe next time.
Found the bottle of Methaldone and sprayed it on top! It’s actually melding in nicely with the SIPs. Photo of the fearsome trio: https://www.instagram.com/p/CpDZj6fOSrX/?igshid=N2Q2MGM2OGQ=
I kept Moon Garden in its box because the graphics are so beautiful.
Extra points for the triple layer! Black Rosette was such a great scent, but at the moment I can’t remember Moon Garden at all and I never smelled Methaldone.
If you smelled CdG Odeurs series, you will some idea what Methaldone smells like. It’s a curiosity scent, very sheer. I got it as a gift because of the outer space connection.
“A giant dirigible descending to Earth.” Wonderful description! I’ve been watching His Dark Materials, and the entire series has a very steampunk style.
His Dark Materials series is very steampunk, indeed. I have not finished watching the whole TV series yet, but I have been a huge fan of the books since I read the original trilogy. And in the new books, the Book of Dust series, there is a whole subplot centered on the scent of particular type of rose.
I’ll have to add this to my list! I am very intrigued now. 🧐
Yes, agree.
Oooh interesting CP. I logged on to get inspired for my perfume choice. The two that came to mind are Bitter Peach and Stephen Jones. I actually think the Stephen Jones is a better fit–its futuristic take on violets and carnations, plus the black lace for the hat imagery. But, I’m not up for it today, so Bitter Peach from a decant it is. Okay. Now I am having trouble articulating why it seems to fit. Its the manga thing, Howl’s Moving Castle. I could see Madame Suliman or even Howl in Bitter Peach.
Oh, Stephen Jones is perfect! But Bitter Peach works. I loved Howl’s Moving Castle and haven’t seen it in years.
Thanks for reminding me, I definitely need to check that one out – in fact, I’ve already wanted to do so for ages but somehow the stars never aligned for me to be able to actually get my hand on it!
Stephen Jones? Bitter Peach? Howl’s Moving Castle? I can help with the first two if you are stateside. 🙂
It’s my birthday today and I just turned 33.
Life’s been challenging lately but I try to not look back, only towards what lies ahead.
I’m wearing Prada Marienbad for this occassion.
Here’s a little bit of birthday me:

Happy Scented Birthday! 🎂🍻🎉
Happy belated birthday!
I went with my sample of CdG Copper for the CP. I remember liking it the last time I wore it, but I’m liking it even more this time. It opens with gingerale and welcoming metallic notes (as opposed to sterile, cold metallic notes). I also get some some green notes that are vegetal but sweet. My notes from the last time I wore it describe it as fresh sugar snap peas. But I just sprayed some Iris de Gris on my other wrist and that is much closer to SSPs.
Tea today is Chocolate puer, with some orange spice black added for a twist.
I’m a third of the way through Frances Burney’s Evelina, which is about 100 years too early for steampunk, but the language is surprising modern sounding.
CdG seems to have vanished from brick and mortar stores near me.
Oh, I read Evelina in college for one of my English classes (my primary major). I couldn’t tell you too much about it now other than I think I remember enjoying it.
I’m in BR540. I was stumped for this cp.
It’s sunny and beautiful out today, but cold. It’s my day off and I had a haircut this morning and a movie ticket for this afternoon. Going to see the movie Emily, thanks to ltsg for the heads up on this one.
Happy Friday everyone!🌞
Happy Friday! 🌞
Wafting (radiating?) Max Factor Epris for the CP. Epris and its mercury-bulb cap is for all the smells of 19th century London near the inventor’s laboratory which, among more doubtful smells, includes a big flower stall where the good girls (like Miss Doolittle) get their bouquets so they can earn a living. Also, the cold and sunny Friday we have here in Southern Indiana seems to me to be perfect for a Chypre bomb. Hugs to all the NST’ers who got hit with the crazy Jet Stream’s storm brew.
Sounds like the perfect choice for the CP.
I had to look up your sotd; it sounds fantastic! Nice tie-in with the cap!

Dang, Robin: I’m switching to a new mouse today which should end the double posts. >(
And dang, I am too late because you already have a comment under this one too. Doesn’t matter!
I’ve never heard of your SOTD before.
Those who like Bal a Versailles, Cinnabar, and any other Max Factor perfume would probably enjoy Epris. Several Fragrantica reviews mention Chanel No. 5, but I think it goes in a very different direction, though it is a heavy hitter.
I am going with the concept of time: precious time, fleeting time, passing time, lost time, shifts in time…as that seems quite steam punk to me and pairing with All Good Things. An end of summer scent, as sunrise is now after 7am and the leaves are turning.
Beautiful moon last night.
I feel like my winter has been so long, but your summer seems short.
Kanuka and Lillyjo–you are poetry complements! The long and the short of it. Both time passages. The last (just about) a Haiku!
I feel like my
Winter has been so long, but
Your summer seems short.
I almost wrote your winter seems so short, but it looked like too many so’s.. lol
So I changed it.
PS. Only earlier this week did I read about your cyclone. Gabrielle, such a pretty name causing so much suffering. In Judaism, traditionally the archangel Gabriel represents God’s strength and power. In Islam, he is a harbinger of the Quran. Gabrielle? She was apparently both–power and a harbinger of climate change. We are getting lots of flooding and downed trees here too–in some rural areas folks are out of electricity, or their homes are soaked to the doorknobs.
I really racked my brain for this CP as I sometimes overthink the themes and want to find the most perfect fit. I ended up picking Balmain Amber Gris since animalic notes, including ambergris, started to be used more prominently in European perfumery in the late 19th century. Plus the sea creature theme can be linked to steampunk, and the gold disco ball atop the bottle could also be seen as an ornate knob a la steampunk. I am glad I chose this perfume because it’s been at least a couple years since I’ve worn it. It takes me back to when I first bought it back in 2010-2012 so I’m getting a fair bit of nostalgia.
I’d also liked Calypso’s idea of Squid for the CP but I have mixed feelings about the perfume so wanted something I knew was a winner on me.
Today is mine and my partner’s 17 year anniversary together! We’re not doing a huge celebration this weekend as we slacked off on figuring out where we want to go for a nice dinner plus it’s very cold out right now. But we’ll still do some things to make the weekend special.
It’s also an especially good week because he (my love) received a promotion at work on Wednesday. Additionally, I was selected to participate in a fellowship program at work, and we started meeting this week. It’s a yearlong commitment and comes with a stipend, and I get to work with and learn from our Chief Diversity & People Officer, who is just a really cool, smart, and interesting person. All good stuff!
Congratulations on all of those good things!
Thank you!
Congratulations and celebrations, such good news.
Your perfume fits so well…plus whalebone corsets
Oh, good call on that corset. And thanks!
How exciting–congrats on all those good things!
Thanks so much, D!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Such wonderful happenings, congratulation!
Thanks!
a wonderful week!Congratulations on all the fabulousness!🌹🤗
Thanks, J B!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Congrats on lots of good things for you both! Celebrate yourselves🥂!
Thanks, we will!
Congratulations on all of that! Sounds exciting!
Thank you!
Congratulations on everything!
Thanks!
It’s nice to hear all your good news! Happy Anniversary!
Thanks, Calypso!
Wow, lots to celebrate for you today! Congratulations!🎉🎈🍾
Thanks, AnnE!
Congrats on your Anniversary and all the wonderful work things!
Thanks, Jalapeno! Btw I’ll still email you about the patchouli sample this weekend.
I’m so happy for all of your good news! Have fun celebrating💕🥂
Thanks, allo!
Congratulations on your good news, and I agree about the Amber Gris bottle! Most of my choices for the CP had as much to do with the bottle as with the scent.
Thank you! As a bonus, I really enjoyed smelling myself in Amber Gris.
I’m wearing Byredo De Los Santos for its metallic notes (to me anyway, I doubt there are any listed).
If you smell metallic notes, then it counts!
25 degrees but sunny here. There is still a lot of ice on the side streets and my daughter fell in the driveway this morning. She is fine.
I’m off today and am continuing my basement clear out and shredding more paper. Letters and cards 25 years and older. I am reading and shredding, only keeping a select few. I’m finishing one more shoebox and will probably take a break for a few weeks as this is very draining.
I was unfamiliar with steampunk. Thanks to J B for his go-to list I am wearing TM Angel Violet. I smell beautiful.
I bet you do smell gorgeous!
I really do! Thanks!
Indeed, you do smell beautiful, and well done on the shredding.
Thanks Aurora. It’s a long process but I finally feel ready to commit to it.
Oh, 25 sounded glorious, and then I had to remind myself about Fahrenheit. 😀
Oh yes 25 Celsius would be glorious!
You do smell great! And congratulations on the clear-out. You are correct, it is exhausting; good plan to do one thing at a time rather than rush through and shred something by accident.
I have to open every envelope. I don’t have anything organized so there are envelopes within envelopes mixed with pictures etc.. I have 2 garbage bags full right now and a storage tub of donations. Also, my boss is going to sell a few things for me.
TM Angel Violet is amazing and perfect for this CP! Good luck with the basement clear out. 🍀🍀🍀
Definitely not in the CP – Byredo Gypsy Water. There are lots of ways to be Not Steampunk and this is one of them 😀
If I was more with it I would wear Bvlgari Black for the vanilla rubber tea.
Steampunk has a nomadic element to it,always moving forward, sometimes through space amd time, sometimes in a caravan from town to town.Gypsy water is perfect for the cp!!👌🏻
That is a fun way to think about it!
I am wearing Lost Alice and although no one else may agree, I’ve always found Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland a steampunky horror fantasy. So I’ll take a cp point if allowed!
Happy weekend, all!
Wonderful association!Love it.
Thanks, JB!
Smelling fantastic, springpansy!
😉
Alice in Wonderland has always terrified me😬 But you smell fabulous!
Thanks to Oakland Fresca for the mention of Bitter Peach. I had been wanting to wear it for a while but my hand went other places until today. Portland is icy now, none of the snow has gone but the tiny bit that melted refroze. The streets are like rumble strips if you’re driving. I’m hoping conditions improve today because I am running out of coffee!
🙂
Happy Steampunk Friyay!!
SOTD!
Wick Fragrance Fabulous Human.
Retro-vibes with a good dose of quirk(and rose!)
I was surprised by my own choice as I was almost certain I would wear something from either Kerosene(Pretty Machine) or ELdO(Eau de Protection would have been my choice!)
Thanks to everyone that is participating! We all always smell fabulous, even when we don’t do the cp’s!
Hehe!
XO’s🌹✌🏻🤗
I thought this was a great CP! Thematic in a way that created some parameters, but also broad enough to allow for a lot of interpretation and creativity. And lots of idea sharing this week, which adds the community feeling of it. I’m also partial to the CPs like this one that require translation from a concept outside of the perfume world into perfume, because it feels like a brain excise I don’t encounter anywhere else.
Yes, and well said, vee. I have to admit, I started off lukewarm about this CP, but I really warmed up to it. Food for thought, indeed.
Thanks, JB. This was a great CP!
This CP was a lot of fun!
Oh, Pretty Machine! I should have thought of that.
I’ve been so busy this week, but I’ve tried to play along at times: Mugler Angel Muse, Rogue Jasmin Antique, and ELdO Putain de Palaces. But today I’m in White Cube, frantically procured at the notice of discontinuation after dithering about whether or not to buy it for years. I’m very happy to have it. If anyone can make it steampunk, I’ll take the points!
It sounds like I really have to sniff Aura. I really want to know what “neon vanilla” smells like.
What? I hadn’t heard white cube was being discontinued…. ☹️😥
I chose Vitriol d’Oeillet for today. Something Victorian/old – carnation, with something modern and sharp in this scent.
Happy Friday, everyone!
I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of researching washing machines. Mine died last week. I’m in a load of trouble (no pun intended), I can’t even decide between a front load or top load! Hahahaha. Anyone have a machine or brand they particularly love (or hate)? I’m thinking less frills, less likely to break!
I have a 10 year old front-load Whirlpool that I love. I’d never go back to a top loader, it’s so easy to scoop the clothes out of a front loader into the basket for the dryer. Mine has no fancy Wifi or steam, just a sufficient number of options for what I want to wash. If I were buying one today I’d get an LG. High ratings in Consumer Reports.
We have a GE front loader we bought two years ago and like. I like that it has a venting feature to help dry out any moisture left after a wash. We usually run that for awhile and then leave the door slightly open to ensure it doesn’t retain moisture. (Has the feature of pre-loading washing detergent and let the machine decide how much it needs…never used it.) I’m easy on washing. I generally use the 30 minute quick wash. I don’t use a lot of the bells and whistles.
I’ve had multiple top loaders and one front loader and I prefer the top because at least 50% of the time I realize I forgot to include an item after I’ve started the wash, and with the top loader I can still toss it in. Also, my front loader would get smelly, even with the door open to air dry it between washes. The front loaders are much more efficient and gentle on cloths tho.
I have a Maytag set here at the condo; it’s a bit older but I love it so much that I got a Maytag set at home too when we had to replace them. Home one is a front load set; the set here is top-load. They are both “commercial duty”. I think all that means is that you can wash a comforter or something oversize without problems.
It’s just the 2 of us, but have found it great for washing blankets and all types of bedding when necessary.
My brother got a “commercial grade” clothes dryer when his died recently. His previous one was also commercial grade and lasted for 20 – 25 years.
I have had both Whirlpool and LG front-loaders; would recommend either. The Whirlpool does have a pause button so that you can reach in during the middle of a cycle if you have to. I think if I had to pick just one, the Whirlpool would win by a hair.
I currently have a LG front load washer. It’s much easier to throw large loads like sheets and quilts into it versus a top load washer. I have had to replace the water pump in it.
Shameless plug for a wisconsin based company: Speed Queen. Either speed queen or Maytag are found in most laundromats here, built to last. When I replace our LG, that is what I will get. And I personally will never get another front loader.
I have a Speed Queen set, it’s stacked. Front load washer. I love mine, they’re just like the ones in the laundromat and everything gets so clean (I had a terribly ancient Kenmore top load before.) We bought it because we could use a local mom and pop shop and Speed Queen had the lowest energy rating.
Ah, good to know! I know a lot of people love their front load washers, my mom included, I just really dislike mine.
I’ve been please with my Speed Queen W&D, top load washer and both with very few frills and settings. The washer has “commercial” on it, and it can handle a king size Bates bedspread. As I recall, these were much cheaper too. The dryer did have the bearings go bad after about 6 years but we had a local person who could repair it.
Saturday morning here, yay!
Post-shower, I’ll wear Fille en Aiguilles, inspired by PriscillaE.
Happy Saturday Gaynor!
Thanks to J B and Robin for the links to steampunk info. Totally unfamiliar with it, even after reading about it, I still have difficulty associating the steampunk and retrofuturistic concepts to fragrance, but I’ll give it a try. My SOTD is the original YSL Nu edp. Its round, metallic futuristic cylinder is often referred to as a hockey puck, but for purposes of today’s cp I prefer to see it as a train wheel! Its deep scent is loaded with incense and spice, giving it a smoky edge, tinged with a bit of metallic. So there we go!
Here in my part of Chicagoland we lucked out during this week’s big storm; we had lots of rain but no ice or snow. Today it’s very cold but sunny 🌞 and the temps will warm up beginning tomorrow. No special plans for the weekend, we’ll just let it unfold 🤞. Wishing everyone a nice one ahead!
I’m a big fan of Nu, love the idea of the train wheel!
That’s perfect!
Oh funny, I wore Nu this week because the weather turned cold, which made me crave it, but I didn’t even connect it to the CP. It totally makes sense though.
I needed calming vibes today, so picked SL Gris Clair with a spritz of Outremer Vanille for sweetness. Tonight for the CP I am in Relique d’Amour, perhaps not steampunk per se but the box looks retro-modern I think, so that’s my trying to participate.
Some of those Oriza L. LeGrand bottles look very Steampunk/Gaslamp Fantasy to me!
Oh yes, you’re right I agree about those bottles.
Sending some calming Vibes your way Aurora!🌞
Hello fellow fragrance lovers–I’m wearing Regime des Fleurs’ Dove Grey. It is a beautiful iris scent but it does have a metallic tang that makes me think steampunk.
I am here with a PSA–I have been missing in action for a few weeks dealing with minor surgery for melanoma found on my leg during a routine annual dermatologist visit. I am fine and should be fine long term, but if you don’t already, please set up some preventive care visits and tests. I am lucky but cancer is no joke (as some of you undoubtedly know)….stay safe out there and do all you can to care for your health.
Yikes! Sorry to hear about your melanoma.
It was a surprise, and not the good kind!! Just glad that all is well now…
I’m glad you are doing ok.
Thanks, hope all is well in your neck of the woods!
Glad you’re okay, jepster!
Thanks, no hajusuuri sprays before surgery, but now I am spritzing with abandon!!
I get a skin check every 6 months now for just that reason! Glad they found it jepster.
I’m so glad you’re okay. I wondered what had happened after you mentioned that you were having tests, etc. And thank you for the reminder to check things out if there’s ever a concern.
I am very thankful all went well for you – and I’m another one who’s glad you shared a reminder that we all need to take care of our health.
Like many others, the steampunk theme made me think of violet, both for their general Victorian retro feel and for the metallic undertones they sometimes have – not to mention the status of the ionones as one the first perfumery ingredients already to be produced synthetically at the end of the 19th century. So, adding in an additional dollop of weirdness, I ended up with Lush’s Kerbside Violet.
I definitely love the name Kerbside Violet. The perfume though did not survive my sniff test – more for you!
Excellent!
I’m wearing Volutes EDP for the CP, because it has tobacco + honey, and the story behind the perfume seemed to fit the steampunk category, though it alludes to a later period — it still has travel, machines, and smoke. I’m quoting from the Diptyque website:
VOLUTES EAU DE PARFUM
Family: Oriental
Made in France
1930, an ocean liner bound for Saigon. On the upper deck, women in evening gowns linger, cigarette holders in hand, the orchestra playing in the lounge. From his childhood memories, Yves Coueslant preserved sounds and fragrances: mild tobacco rising in wisps, mingling with the powdery scent of make-up.
That’s perfect!
This was a contender for me!
The young lads in today’s picture look like a Steampunk version of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band. LOL!
Welcome back Robin!
Sunny and windy day here, with a one-day cold snap predicted for tomorrow. There’s even the possibility of some snow flurries, but I will believe that when/if I see it.
SOTD = Pharrell GIRL. I am not the only person who started with Victorian violets and then took off on a tangent. This was one perfume that immediately came to mind when J B suggested Steampunk as a CP.
I had to go back to look at the picture. You are right!
Stay warm! It’s so cold here, even with the sun.
I did most of my “outdoors” errands and tasks this afternoon, while it was still kind of nice. Tomorrow I might not even go outside to get the mail!
The bottle is creepy!
I have the much less creepy travel spray! 🙀
Thank you Jalapeno!
I’m not covering any new ground for the CP today, but wearing Hermes Violette Volynka, which several have already played with. Violet and leather does strike me as very steampunk.
I just acquired my new bottle in Seattle when I met up with allo and springpansy! What a fun day that was – I had not met up with any perfume folks for literally years, and it revived me after a stressful week. I really love this one – the main notes morph back and forth, first the violet in the foreground, then the leather. Not at all sweet, and the leather does have that Russian birch tar vibe.
I also bought it thinking of the upcoming split meet, in case anyone has had this on their wishlist. 😉
And we loved meeting up with you! ♥
I just may have to treat myself…..
That was so fun!
I feel like it couldn’t possibly be more CP-compliant than Vivienne Westwood Libertine. (RIP VW.) But I don’t have any.
I went with CB I Hate Black March in a bit (okay a lot) of stretch because it smells like our early Edwardian heroine botanist has been fussing with and clipping back plants in her glass house, which has some sort of impossible mechanical structure, you know, for the steam part.
Excellent, spiderplant!
Hey steampunkers!
SOTD = Pascal Morabito Or Black, the vintage version
I get 3 points for the CP:
1️⃣ Perfume
2️⃣ Bottle
3️⃣ Owls

My most steampunk encounter was inside a “boat” museum.. I won’t say anymore about exactly where because when I first posted the pics, the post received unwanted attention with videos of people marching a certain way that one cannot unsee.

I loved this CP! Thanks JB and Robin!
Cool bottle! And only 3 sprays for you? Wowza!
That really is the perfect steampunk bottle!
Very very late in ELDO Eau de Protection. I put it on first thing this morning but just got around to posting. Thanks JB for a great CP!🌹❤️
I’m wearing Serge Lutens La Vierge de Fer, for its metallic note. I’m not a fan of metallic notes in general (or rubber, or ozone), but it’s very subtle here, underneath a pretty, very slightly soapy lily. Really interesting theme, looking forward to reading everyone else’s picks!
