It's Monday, plus Waitangi Day, Bob Marley’s birthday and National Frozen Yogurt Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm starting a week of rose in Tauer Perfumes Phi — Une Rose de Kandahar.
Reminder: on 2/10, wear a fragrance with rose, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2016).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Roses? I could do two weeks, no problem: one of my favourite notes. Today I figured I might as well do it up right, so I’m in a few drops of late-eighties Joy, a luxurious, heartrendingly beautiful rose. I still can’t believe it was discontinued: it seemed to be one of those bedrock scents like No. 5 or Shalimar that will be around forever. I have maybe a millilitre left and when it’s gone I don’t know what I’ll do: maybe wave it goodbye, maybe get some more….
I think we will see more participation this week than last
Joy was so amazing. I bought my mom a small bottle of the Parfum years ago and wish I’d bought one for myself.
I can also do a week of roses, so I am trying to work with scents I wear infrequently. Today is Une Rose Chypree. I tend to forget my Tauer scents, especially those that are in sample sizes.
I might do the Rose Delight tomorrow
I can easily do a week of roses. Yesterday I accidentally joined the CP with a random sample from my ELdO kit that was a huge, straight-up rose lasting all day: Experimentum Crucis. It worked, considering I went to a love-themed concert that Mr. Ockeghem’s group put on (granted, Renaissance love).
Will have to think about what to wear today (still early here, just got the kid out the door to her early, off-timetable class). Lots of options…
Oh, I could probably do a week of Tauer roses, for sure! Phi will be in the mix.
Went with MCMC Kept for my SotD, plus my usual SMN rosewater toner. Kept is a nice, clean rose which used to be one of my go-to scents, but I haven’t worn it much recently. It only lasts about half the day, which is perfect — can move on to another of what I realized is about 20 rose perfumes.
Thanks for reminding me that I have Experimentum Crucis. Lots of options for me as well this week.
Accidentally CP compliant. I spotted Rose Barbare and decided to give it another try, rather than wearing something I knew would be a delight. RB has yet to connect with me, nor I with it. I am interested in the spicy part, and the rose is pleasant. We will see as the day goes on. I think it is a simple, clean kind of scent so far. I have a lingering, mild head cold, so my nose is filtering fragrances less efficiently, but maybe highlighting certain notes?
Hope it does not linger too much longer MossyBerry.
Rose Barbare doesn’t seem to work for me too. Oh well, plenty of other roses out there for us!
Yuck on the cold! I think I still have a sample of Rose Barbare in the Sample Stash somewhere…
Perfume du Bois 5th Avenue
I am interesting in trying a sample of Portrait of a Lady, if anyone wants to do a sample swap let me know.
Finished Snow Country…I loved the reading poll over the weekend.
You have not smelled PoaL yet?😱😱😱Haha!
The masses here have unfortunately ruined it for me,I wear it very seldom these days.Still love it so much.🌹✌🏻
Are you laughing at me because I have never tried it? I can hear you from here…
I’m truly surprised!
But then I always am when someone I consider a seasoned perfumista has not tried something I thought everyone has tried already aeons before me!
I guess I don’t fall into the seasoned perfumista category. Besides en passant and carnel flower I haven’t tried other Malles
I have a decant if you’d like to swap!
sarahbneuner g male
Swap with Sarah N. Sarah and I have worked with fragrances together before. She is great!
I just got POAL about a week or so ago from a generous NSTer and now I want a FB. It is soooooo good.
It’s still a desert island perfume for me as well, despite the fact that it seems to be everywhere these days(in my neck of the woods at least),along with BR540 which is also SO SO pretty.🌹✌🏻
I saw that Costco.com has PAOL right now. I have no idea if it is a good price there, but I trust Costco more than the discount sites.
I saw that too! If I remember correctly it is under $200.
Since I am not a Costco member, the website won’t tell me the cost. I will have to ask my stepdaughter. You don’t need too many sprays so I was thinking of just getting a travel spray at Nordies. It is under $100 and I think it would last quite a while.
Starting the day off with Penhaligons Amaranthine because I ate a slightly underripe banana and thought of it. Anybody remember this weird little gem?
Roses are heavily underrepresented in my collection, so I’ll have to reach deep into my decant and samples, but here are candidates for the week:
– Chanel Egoiste (I can do a week of this, no problem)
– Hermes Rose Ikebana (more citrus rhubarb than rose, but hey)
– Chanel Les Eaux Paris-Paris (fresh rose with a patchouli base)
– Les Indemodables Rose de Jamal (smells like whole stalk of rose)
edit: I remember now, LI Roses de Jamal smells like a whole stalk of rose in an antique wood cabinet.
I did not love it but lots of people did!
it is a weird one!
I only have a small dabber sample of Amaranthine. I discovered it well after it had been discontinued.
i have a bottle, let me know if you ever need a decant
Oh yes, I love Amaranthine. I was lucky to find a bottle on eBay at a reasonable price before the prices there turned to unreasonable.
same here! it’s one that i rarely wear, but crave every now and then. it is banana leaves, green sap, and milky sandalwood to me. can’t believe the prices on ebay now i’m going to treasure my bottle forever.
Only tangentially CP compliant since I grabbed the first bottle that came to hand, which turned out to be N 5. Somewhere in all of that must be some rose?
I was in hurry to meet the farrier. Sheba, the Haflinger elder, didn’t need her toes trimmed, so only my big baby Ceasar got a trim. Our farrier is this very down to earth woman, who both horses whinny to when they see her coming- they like her and she likes them, and this is a quick, delightfully drama free process! The humans had the usual conversation about the price and availability of hay, and the impact of last week’s bitter cold on aging human joints, and she was off to her next appt. , leaving a trail of competent fresh energy behind her.
Hope everyone’s Monday morning starts off so pleasantly!
I have roses lined up for the rest of the week, I think. I love these little group projects! Another way to bee connected!
Great way to start a Monday! Happy horses are the best. 🐴
Wonderful!I’m sure I read somewhere that Chanel grows their own rose and jasmine, especially for No.5 in mind.🌹✌🏻
Love the warm fuzzies in this post!
Smelling particularly gorgeous today Robin!
Just finished night 3 of 4 and drama has found me. Ugh! Maintaining equilibrium with Bengale Rouge. There’s some rose way down deep in the note list which is exactly where I like it.
Currently waiting to have Moby’s muffler issues diagnosed while yawning prodigiously in the waiting area….vroom vroom! 🚐
Happy Monday! Bring on the ☕️
speaking of bringing on the coffee..I am trying a new coffee shop today that does these “coffee on the bottom” drinks-and the upper layer could be pistachio cream or condensed milk etc etc
You can see a photo here https://tozzocoffee.com
I will report back
Do report back! Sounds delish ☕️
I love the look of that place, especially the tilework on the outside! There’s one with a cat that looks very cute! And the food and drinks look delicioso.
That looks interesting. Please report back.
Also, this is what happened recently in my “back yard.” Most have probably seen it in the news, but get a load of those swells! Rescue swimmer was okay and was able to get the guy to safety.
Sorry about the drama! Hopefully you have some days off soon!
You smell good 😊
Ugh on the drama!
Boo hiss on vehicle issues and work drama! Hope that Moby gets fixed up without a humungous bill.
Commando today since I forgot to put perfume on before leaving the house, but I think I’ll do a week of rose scents. It’s one of my favorite notes.
I would forget all the time if it were not for the poll!
I am doing a week of rose scents that I don’t wear often. I am starting with Byredo Rose Of No Man’s Land. It is not one of my favorite rose scents, but it is very simple and office friendly. Just what I needed today!
Happy Monday! 🌹
You smell lovely and thank you for the idea to give the less worn roses some love and attention❤️🌹
Thank you, Allo! As you said, those pretty, but forgotten rose scents also deserve some love. This is the perfect week for it! 🌹
I’m sure you’ll be wafting POAL this week sometime!😉🌹✌🏻🤗
You know me already! 😉🌹
Looking forward to hearing what your “less worn roses” are this week.
I have many, just thinking about which ones to pick for the cp. Even though I love rose as a note, I barely reach for my rose scents.
In Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’Eau, which has just come back on my radar and which certainly isn’t the first rose that comes to mind in my collection but it’s a good one.
i had forgotten about this one! used to enjoy it quite a bit good choice.
It’s a fragrance that somehow slips under the radar but it has quite a bit of presence.
Sadly, I did not get any rose when I tried L’Ombre Dans L’Eau. It went straight to musky base notes on me.
My goal is to do a week of rose as a prominent note as well. Today is Dame Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood.
My goal as well! The choices though!😱😱
I was surprised to see I can do a week of rose as a side note, I don’t really have any rose forward perfumes.
I can’t believe that your SOTD is sold out again!
I emailed Jeffrey about it because I thought it was discontinued. I mentioned to him that many of us on this blog like it. He said it was not discontinued, but rather that he takes it off his website in the winter. It will be coming out again.
Oh, my. I just looked at his website again and now it looks like he is offering 4 of those women fragrances now and calling them “Carolina Woman”. He has gotten rid of a few of the others, and you are right it does have my SOTD listed as sold out. Not sure what is going on.
I could probably also do a couple of weeks of rose-centred perfumes.I’ll definitely try and wear my top 5 this week, starting off today with Etro’s ManRose. If you think Portrait of a Lady is too much, this is a wonderful soft iteration of the genre. The rose-geranium ratio is beautiful, with a soft patchouli note in the background.I’m in the far-far drydown right now,and it is wonderful as the sun sets.
Happy Rose week!!
I need to read about that one. Sounds nice if it is anything like POAL.
There is a definite dna-match to POAL,I think in the basic structure of the rose-patchouli combo.”Office-friendly” POAL if you will.Which I find hilarious as I recently gifted a colleague a tiny 7,5ml poal, and she wears it to work in tiny-tiny amounts and I adore the wafts from her as she passes by!
Ack! Please, no more Etro lemmings for me! ManRose sounds wonderful.
Doesn’t it? I know I don’t need any more lemmings either.
Sorry not sorry!Hehe!
Do seek it out,it’s surprisingly good!
I still lament the demise of their Heliotrope,ot was the BEST in my opinion.
National Frozen Yogurt day? Anyone else remember TCBY? (maybe it’s a Midwest thing) I worked there one summer during college. Man I loved making the waffle cones, mmm, that smell.😋 I’ve always been more of an ice cream fan though so I wasn’t really tempted to be eating on the job.
I’m in Le Labo Musc25, which does list rose in the notes. Will thunk this sample today. Also in Rose Jam shower gel. Got a sample from the SA when I stopped in over the weekend. I’ve never tried it before and I thought perfect for this week’s cp!
Yes, I remember it (fellow Midwesterner, at least formerly. I agree about the good smell of waffle cones.
Do see the link the the post, it tells you where to get free frozen yogurt today
But I am an ice cream person too.
We had TCBY in New York, so definitely not just a mid-west thing. On super hot summer days, TCBY was the best lunch!
I remember. I never could get into it though.
I remember TCBY, and it was out in Colorado back in the day. My favorite flavor was the White Chocolate Mousse.
NJ has it as well. Strangely, the one at the mall near me stayed open throughout the worst of the pandemic and into late last year. It had since closed down.
Looking forward to a week of, “Oh neat, does that have rose too?” I do have at least a couple of explicitly rosy scents, so will be set up for Friday. Currently wearing the last of an unlabelled decant – I am guessing Climat: it’s unassumingly pleasant, but I ended up giving away the almost-full bottle to someone who liked it more.
Rose is pretty easy to find, seriously.
I looked at the CP for inspiration, so i put on one of my cold weather rose scents – Lady Rose Lion (Monkey Unicorn), a very balsamic dark marmelade rose chypre. It is too much for warmer weather, but today it fit nicely.
Ooooooooooh, “balsamic dark marmelade rose chypre” sounds fantastic!
I went with Papillon Tobacco Rose today. Not frozen yogurt, but I think tonight’s dessert will be local company, Ellenos’ Greek yogurt limited edition brownie batter flavor. It’s got the brownie batter mixture on the bottom and the plain Greek yogurt on top. We couldn’t resist trying it when we saw it at the grocery yesterday. We’ve also had success with their lemon curd, passion fruit, and pumpkin pie flavors among others.
OMG that sounds good. I have never heard of Ellenos.
Wearing La Panthere EDP today. Not rose centric at all but it does contain rose. It’s wearing much nicer today in the cold than it did the last time I tried it. It can be a bit much for me. I only did one spritz and it will subside enough by the time I go to my dentist appointment this afternoon.
La Panthere came up in Persolaise’s latest video for old-world glamour perfumes! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zALJrJiw5yI
Have never sniffed it but now I am curious.
I need to start a running list of samples to send you! 😉
I feel the same way about La Panthère sometimes.
I looove this week’s theme, rose is my favourite note lately.
Can’t wait to see your choices !!
Today I am wearing vintage YSL Paris.
Paris is one perfect rose scent, you smell great.
Wish I could smell you! Vintage Paris is wonderful.
Just finished up some cleaning and now in Lyric today.
Lyric is such a good choice!
Rose is not one of my favorite notes, but does the Perfume Cabinet contain enough rose scents for a week? Why sure. I just have to remember which ones they are, that’s the hard part.
SOTD is Dior Oud Ispahan, rose/oud, but very refined, of course. Goes perfectly with my sweats and fuzzy slippers. And hauling the trash carts out to the curb…
Monday morning is trash pickup here, so I hauled mine out last night.
Don’t we live glamorous lives
Gotta love a scent trail while you are going mundane chores!
Good heavens — just when I think I’ll have trouble fulfilling a CP and/or that I don’t care for a particular note, it turns out that practically everything I own could be construed as CP-compliant. Everything seemingly has some rose in it! I chose Tam Dao edt for my SOTM, having forgotten the rose theme this week, and was very surprised when it came up in the search-by-notes thingie. Some other surprises were Paris-Deauville, Alahine, L’Eau de Tarocco and Azemour. It will be a fun week. 🌹
Yes, that sounds like a precept of perfumery: Most Everything has Some Rose
Somebody has to say “Everything’s Coming Up Roses!” in case no one has already🌹
I’m wearing Patou Sublime from my mini bottle. It does have rose, though that note is subordinate to some of the other florals. In this case I think rose gives it rounding out or body, though it’s not the star.
I like rose fine in perfumes, it’s just not one of my top or favorite notes. For some strange reason, it seems to me that rose is a scent that really belongs in the flower. That’s crazy because I don’t think that way about other perfume notes, it might just be that a rose that smells really good is, well, sublime.
Someday it would be fun to take a class or go on a tour or participate in an experiment comparing all the different kinds of roses and how they smell, e.g., Turkish rose, Moroccan rose, whatever others there are. Sometimes perfume note lists differentiate based on color, like pink or red rose. Hmmm.
Is your Patou Sublime vintage or more recent?
A rose week! That’s definitely a CP I can get into. I’m starting with Le Galion’s La Rose, it’s not heavy, but it’s not fleeting either. Fragrantica says it has an aquatic note, which would usually make me run a mile, but I don’t get that here.
I have never tried that one! Light aquatic notes don’t bother me.
I went with orange blossom today, Orangerie Musicale which I finally got some months back and became a favorite just behind Au Pays de la Fleur d’oranger Néroli Blanc. Tonight it*s Hanae Mori ‘Butterflies’ in parfum concentration, very moreish, almost too sweet, it’s a guilty pleasure. Like many I can do many days of roses I’ve realized.
I always thought that Hanae Mori smelled like some of the best dessert in the world.
Yes, it’s almost edible, that extra it is long-lasting too.
Didn’t think to check the theme this morning so I’m in HG Slowdive, which is delicious. I have a ton of rose perfumes though so this week will be easy.
Rose is not one of my favorite notes, but it’s everywhere so I am fairly sure I can come up with something for the CP. Today I’m wearing Rouge Smoking.
Or, just skip it
Back to weirdly warm weather for me after that brief but highly unpleasant arctic blast late last week. The cats are still hanging out on the heat vents anyway. 😸😸
SOTD = Rose de Siwa, from the Sample Stash. Such a pretty rose! 🌹🌹🌹
I love Rose de Siwa! MDCI if I am not mistaken.
You are correct! 💯🤓
Larry waves to your kitties from his own blocked heat vent 😺
I love Larry!
Purrs back at Larry kitteh!
Sampling LAP Vetiver Ecarlate today but am looking forward to using a rose & vanilla bath melt from Lush tonight, post-workout. For the VE, I get grapfruit (mostly peel), vetiver, and a burst of tomato leaf in the opening, but it morphs into a more generic fresh green note after about 15 minutes. Shame because I love the smell of tomato leaves and it is so distinctive. I still need to try the Deteter and CBIHP tomato frags (although I expect they won’t last much longer than 15 mintues either).
Tea today is a vanilla-scented black tea from Georgia Tea Co.
I started watching season 2 of Flight Attendant on HBO and it seems that Santal 33 may be a plot point. I also spotted a Byredo bottle on a dresser, but couldn’t identify the others.
Diptyque Grand Tour Venise has a great tomato leaf note, but alas, it is a very short-lived perfume.
I have some Venise from you! I really like that one, but on my skin, the green pepper note crowds out the tomoato leaf.
Vetiver Ecatlate sounds rather promising at the start! But maybe it would be better as a candle?
Oh that’s so funny it’s a plot point! I can’t remember why I stopped watching, I might have just been watching too many things at once. Maybe I will start again.
I completely misread that as Wutang Day, which says something about something.
Vaguely CP compliant in original Silences edp, which has rose in there somewhere, though it’s not especially dominant.
Something, for sure
I am pretty sure I can do a week of rose. Today I am wearing Tiffany Trueste. A soft powdery rose. Some people on Fragrantica claim it smells similar to Safari. This is not true in the slightest to my nose.
I’ll have to try it. Safari is no bueno to my nose.
Rose perfumes can leave such an awesome scent trail in cold weather if you pick the right one.
I once did a February of roses. Rebel me wanted to do a week of Shalimar and so I am!
SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar Ode a La Vanille Sur la Route du Mexique
Oh my! Most vanilla forward out of the 3 I’ve worn since Saturday, but of course we know there is one more with lots of vanilla. 💖
In other news:
1. I paid cash at the restaurant where we had our dinner / drinks after our Escape Room event. We did separate checks so as not to get into a tangle of who had what and for how much. My total came to $36 and change. I used a $50 💵. The server had the audacity to ask if I wanted change back? I am usually generous with the tip but I wasn’t about to give her almost 40%! Service was good but not exceptional. What is up with expectation of large tips?
2. We’re not required to wear masks in the office nor anywhere in the building. I don’t; so far the only places where I continue to wear a mask is while commuting (I take it off once I am past Macys Herald Square) and at grocery stores. As you can imagine, in an older building, elevators fit 4 people comfortably; however, because of the no mask situation, I strongly prefer no talking inside the elevator. It makes me angry when people continue to chat away inside the elevator — couldn’t they wait until they’re more out in the open? This is probably one of the only things I couldn’t control that makes me want to punch someone (and I am not the violent type).
So thankful I don’t have to deal with elevators on a regular basis!
I always took the stairs at work as part of my fitness program, I worked on the 10th floor. Maybe an option?
Very cheeky server, I would give them an incredulous look.
I love rose in perfume and like many others, I can easily do a rose week. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s choices!
I started at 5am in vintage Coco edt for Mr ringthing’s hip replacement surgery. Everything went really well, his was the first surgery, he did great in PT and we were home by 2. Amazing. When I got home and settled, I put on a bit of Inner Sanctum, rose and incense. I could probably wear this everyday this week but I have other roses I love, too. 🌹
Glad to hear that Mr. ringthing’s surgery went well! Sending wishes for speedy and easy healing.
Speedy and complete recovery wishes!
Hip surgery/recovery is amazingly fast these days. I hope Mr. ringthing is doing jumping jacks and cartwheels soon!🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️
Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
Starting out rose week light in Diptyque L’Eau Rose. I love this one, especially the fancy version in the black bottle with the bulb atomizer. ❤️
Lovely and lovely🌹
Like several others, I can also do a rose week so I’m starting out with A Rose For Beacon Free from Soivohle
That one might also win for best name.
