Thursday scent of the day 1/26

Posted by Robin on 26 January 2023 141 Comments

It’s Almost-Friday and National Peanut Brittle Day. Birthdays: Bessie Coleman, Paul Newman, Lucinda Williams. What fragrance are you wearing?

I had my second shingles vaccine yesterday afternoon, and I'm pretty tired. I'm commando and possibly heading back to bed for a bit.

Reminder: on 1/27, wear a fragrance by Narciso Rodriguez, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Feel better soon, Robin!

Wearing L’Artisan Patchouli Patch from another cute travel-size spray.

Cold and very windy today. I am on my third cup of coffee and it is not helping much. I am very sleepy! These dark days are taking a toll on me. I hope Phil, the groundhog brings good news next week! 😀🐥🪻🌷🌻🪺🐇🐣

    Happy Thursday! 🌞

Patchouli Patch is a very nice, safe, office-friendly dry patchouli with some spices. It becomes a skin scent on me in an hour or so. You may like it.

The mayor who dropped the Staten Island Chuck (was it him?) has not been in office for some time!

The fact was that Mayor Di Blasio did not drop Chuck, but Charlotte, his granddaughter. The Staten Island Zoo did not say anything about the replacement for many months. Charlotte, which died after the fall, had replaced Chuck after he bit former Mayor Bloomberg.
All groundhogs that replaced Chuck have their own names, but are called Chuck in public appearances.

I remember feeling that second Shingrix.

I used to know someone who was tortured by shingles for more than a year. I’m sure he would have been obnoxious even without the shingles, so I wasn’t as sympathetic as I might have been. I made sure to get the original shingles vaccine as soon as I was eligible and, later, Shingrix when that came out.

No perfume yet. I think I’ll test FZOTIC Ummagumma again today.

Has anyone tried this line? The bottles look amazing!

In a related PSA, Bruno is selling “imperfect” (under or over weight or misshapen) Fzotic Honey Cedar and Black Suede soaps at a huge discount. I LOVE these soaps. Great quality as well as wonderful to smell.

Away from my perfumes for the next couple of days and just grabbed my travel spray of Angel’s Share as I left, so I’ll be wearing this little gem for the next few days.

Back in the Big City for a few days and will make stops at Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, TJMaxx and Home Goods. Have a list of things I need to get and plan on doing a bit of serious shopping today and tomorrow!

    Happy Almost FriYAY! ☺️

Hello friends! Thanks for thinking of me, I was up in Montréal moving in to my new place, had no internet service until the 18th and wasn’t wearing any perfume so I decided to take an internet break. I was working through a lot of emotions as I was unpacking, after three very difficult years of upheaval, so it was a useful quiet time alone. I feel optimistic about the future and happy to be back on track. Wearing an old favorite today, Le Parfum du 68.

I’m in Narciso edt again. Making a good dent in my travel spray this week.
We got a dusting of snow overnight and it was much more slippery than it looked! I might have approached my first intersection too fast this morning.😬Oops. Thank goodness for awd.
I slept like a rock last night, it felt so good. Strange dreams though. I dreamt a former colleague (who was not into perfume to my knowledge) had her own YouTube channel and was doing a perfume review with her massive collection displayed behind her! Weird. Lol. If only I could remember which perfume she was reviewing.

Songes today, I think this if my favorite Goutal. Compliments from kids every time I wear it. I haven’t smelled this one from those new bottles but I am hoping the cumin and spice is still there because that is what makes it for me.

Someone on this feed recommended Snow Country to me, and that book has come in but I have to wait to pick it up since it’s at the library near where I volunteer. Part of me can’t resist and I feel like going right away…

Wearing Bois des Iles EdT today. It’s gorgeous out there, so different from two days ago.

Calypso and I went on a sniffing expedition on Monday and had so much fun. Lunch first, and then we made our way to the counters! I got a sample of Diptyque Orpheon, which I liked when it came out, but got distracted, as we do. The two Byredos I hadn’t tried, Eyes Closed and Mixed Emotions, are really nice. EC has ginger, cinnamon and a rooty carrot note (loves that one). ME is a skin scent, but I’ll have to try the sample to say much more.
We tried a bunch of the new Guerlains, but the one I gave skin time to went weird on me (Herbes Troublantes).
Tried the new FM, Uncut Gem, but it reminded me of an EO, but I got a sample of it anyway. The nose was worn out, so maybe…
We had a good time at the Mind Games counter. It’s a new line using chess pieces as the motif. Double Attack is a gorgeous non sweet chocolate that I got a sample of, but I’ve been too enamored with BOE this week to try it.
    So fun! 💃🏼

Robin, congrats on finishing your shingles Vx. It wasn’t fun for me, either. I hope it doesn’t keep you down for long!

SotD is Maison Tahité I_Ristretto. Violet and coffee, yippee, my two favorite notes of the moment. I’m testing from a (spray) sample and not getting much projection, but it is nice with a musky base. I’m sure I’ll use it up and go on to the other 3 I bought in the series.

Has anyone been on Fragrantica today and seen the article, “The Perfumer’s Name As a Marketing Tool?” Who’s the hottie on the left? I think I should know but can’t place him.

Still working through a selection of Ayala Moriel samples this week. Today’s is Kinmokusei, which is primarily osmanthus, green tea, and blond tobacco on my skin. And that’s a thunk on the sample! It’s nice but not a love like the two I wore earlier in the week, Palas Atena and Ayalitta. Yesterday’s Bon Zai wasn’t really for me so I moved that one to the give away baggie. I think it was the patchouli, agarwood, vetiver base that wasn’t my favorite.

Robin, I hope your side effects from your second shingles shot are short lived!

It is time to make my shocking confession: I do not like Narciso Rodriguez perfumes. I’ve had a skin reaction to at least one, and haven’t like any others enough to risk wearing. Also, I find the bottles quite boring.

This is far worse than then Annick Goutal sneeze-athon of a few years ago, since I am still cautiously willing to smell their offerings.

Wearing the fail-safe Cristalle for a day in the office…

Productive day today! I made a few phone calls today for various appointments in the future, plus I cooked a batch of homemade tapioca pudding. It’s cooling down as I type.

SOTD = Chanel Sycomore EdT. I am wondering if my little dabber sample is starting to go off with this one. Time to use it up.

Thanks! I’ve been playing around with different kinds of tapioca and different flavorings. Still haven’t quite nailed down how to use the mini boba I have. But rosewater is quite tasty as a flavoring!

You smell wonderful. Glad you’re having success with your tapioca. My tapioca story is not so glorious: I was in college and we had a night every few weeks when we would eat together as housemates, with each person taking turns making dinner. I don’t recall what main dish I made but my tapioca pudding was stuck on (in?) the cups and it took quite a bit of elbow grease to get it unstuck!

        Thanks!

I’ve been making tapioca for a long time now. I’ve even graduated from the instant to the pearls, which can be tricky to work with.

I’ve also learned to soak the pan that I’ve made it in before placing it in the dishwasher. Makes cleanup so much easier.

SOTD = Francesca Bianchi Sticky Lips

Love! It is similar to Sticky Fingers except it is more rosy. I could be imagining it but perhaps some violet as well.

In other news, I don’t know if anyone recalled me assembling a package for one of the cleaning staff in the office. Anyway, I’ve seen her quite a few times since then but this past Tuesday was when I asked if she liked any of the perfumes. She said yes but she was more enamored with the face care stuff I included! I’ll be giving her another package within the next 1-2 months!

Sticky Fingers but more rosy? That sounds great and is giving me layering ideas, especially since Sticky Lips is sold out! I wonder how Bianchi decides whether to release something as limited edition as opposed to part of her regular line.

I’m still busy from LNY celebrations back home, lots of meeting up with relatives and friends that I haven’t seen in awhile! It’s been nice and also slightly emotional, as all time spent with family is.

I’ve been wearing perfume almost daily, sometimes more than one scent per day. It is warm and humid here, so perfume develops and disappears faster than it usually does when I’m in NY.

    Some favorites so far:
    – Chanel Les Exclusifs Eau de Cologne, a perfect light refresher for the heat
    – Pure Malaysian wild oud oil, a whole perfume on its own
    – Chanel Egoiste, now firmly a staple in my collection
    – Swiss Arabian Sandalia, nice light and sweet sandalwood (probably natural and synthetic) oil that reminds me of temple incense.

    Hope everybody is doing well!
