Wednesday scent of the day 1/25

Posted by Robin on 25 January 2023 173 Comments

It’s Hump Day, Opposite Day and Irish Coffee Day. Birthdays: Robert Burns, Virginia Woolf, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Etta James, Gloria Naylor. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Ambre à Levres from Nez.

Reminder: on 1/27, wear a fragrance by Narciso Rodriguez, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: I think the top image shows Narciso Rodriguez designs for the New York City ballet, but I have lost the original link so I can't be sure.

Not Irish coffee, but amaretto by the fireside, just as good: Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon.

Adding that I’ve now wasted a lot of time trying to figure out where I got the image above and I give up. There is a pin on Pinterest with this image but I can see that’s not where I got it and it has no attribution to Narciso Rodriguez.

I know he did designs for several dance companies but I don’t know if these are his. Apologies although guessing nobody cares but me.

It is a great image, and I suspect it’s of Spanish dancer Angel Corella, probably taken by photographer John Andresen, and has nothing to do with NR.

If anyone wants to see one of NR’s actual ballet designs, here:

I’m wearing Le Canotier, from my Rogue discovery set. This one is completely different than what the earlier scents that I’ve worn. It is vetiver and citrus, so right up my alley, but I’m not sure that it is worth a decant purchase. We’ll see what the dry down brings.

Irish coffee! I will honor the day indulging in some at lunchtime. I am taking a mental health day today. It has been very stressful at work lately, so I need to regain some energy.

Wearing L’Artisan Ambre Extreme, EdP from a very cute travel size spray. A nice amber, vanilla, spicy scent that I am enjoying a lot!

    Happy Wednesday! 🌻

I have the original l’eau, and it was one of those that I stupidly got rid of when I fell out of love with it. Until a few years later when I fell back in love with it and found a bottle on the ‘bay. Whew! 😄

I have never tried the L’Eau, but I am sure it as good as the EdP. I am so glad a bottle rejoined your collection! It is so painful when we get rid of a scent, just to find out later that we really like it!

Stunning photo! No NR here, but I’ve often thought about a blind buy of the White Cube, ultimately deciding against it for various reasons.

I’m in Angels’s Share from my beloved travel spray. Just the perfect size. A lovely warm perfume. I wouldn’t mind sizing up!

Feeling a bit stressed because while work has been great, I’ve got a lot going on extracurricularly and I’m not handing it with my usual aplomb. Nothing horrible at all, just A LOT! 😅 Feeling a bit mentally exhausted by all the details when my poor brain is more about ideas. Loving the contract and most of the people I work with. Found a co-worker that I adore and luckily, we work together a lot. Having a blast just riffing off each other. Work is so much more enjoyable when you work with people who are flexible and fun.

    Happy Hump Day!

I bought White Cube as a blind buy and was very happy about it. The nice thing was that you could get a travel size that was quite affordable; I bought a backup when I found it was being discontinued.

Angel’s Share is another that I’ve been eyeing as a blind buy, mostly because of the travel spray.

So glad the current assignment is going well, even if there’s a lot outside to work on!

I have to get showered / working soon, so will have to figure out SOTD soon. It’ll have to be something quiet, since I have to go into the office today. I have so much other work that I really can’t afford to waste the 2 hours on the train, but I have to be there today…and Thursday…and Friday.

Otherwise I’ve been trying more of the samples I picked up at Christmas. Yesterday was Le Lion, which I quite liked — very elegant, very Chanel, yet a different direction for them. Then Monday was Escentric Molecules 01, which I’d never tried before. Unlike the reviews I’d read, I could smell it right away, though — it wasn’t some invisible aura everyone picked up on but me. It was a nice, uncomplicated scent, though…could work for today again.

I wish I could smell Escentric Molecules. I can’t smell 01 or 02. the only other thing I’ve never been able to smell is Baccarat Rouge. It’s kind of an odd feeling not being able to smell something that most people can. Did you get a light cedary smell from 01?

I couldn’t smell Escentric 02 at first. But when I tested out a sample, I ended up thinking someone near me smelled good and then I realized I was smelling myself. Now I can pick up Escentric 02 easily, even on my fingers after I picked up the bottle. And it is one of my favorites and garners among the most compliments.

Sadly, I have Escentric 01 and dislike it. Husband absolutely hates it, used to go nuts even if I had applied hours before. I must have originally liked the sample

We are getting our forecast snow and it is beautiful to sit inside and look out the windows at the big, fluffy flakes. It’s wet so it’s outlining the tree branches beautifully.

I admit it is not my bag, but I will give it another shot still.

Generally speaking I am not an amber person and probably even less an amber+aldehydes person.

It is a fun scent though and nicely done, and I like how they’ve done this series.

Funny, because I would say that I’m mostly not an amber or aldehydes person either, but I find this one more of a smooth lipstick/cosmetic fragrance. However, I also think of Tam Dao as incense and turns out it’s only woods, so what do I know!

But it is not much different from sandalwood incense, which I think is what inspired it. And who knows, there could be frankincense in the notes, I’d certainly be none the wiser.

That picture is amazing- strength, coordination and timing to get all those people up in the air at the same time. Classical ballet is extreme athletics at it’s most grueling – they have to do all that and look serene and floaty. At least gymnasts get to look like they are making an effort! I am commando at the moment, watching the snow pile up. Maybe LADDM later.

I’m in Narciso edt again. I’m on a roll.
I ended up ordering Glossier’s new You deodorant last week and I was so excited by it. Smooth formula, faint scent, reusable container, BUT- I am apparently allergic to something in the formula because it gave me hives.😮yikes, that’s never happened to me before. I’m bummed because I wanted to try the orange blossom and sandstone scents too. Luckily I was able to fill out an online return request and I can get a refund. Without having to mail it back, no one wants used deodorant.🤣

I’m sitting here waiting for my daughter’s bus to drop her off and watching the snow fall. How many days left Robin? Lol.
I started out thunking Oud Satin Mood. ( from last night’s decant clear out) I like it at first but it quickly turns unpleasant on me.
Now I am wearing the wonderful and I should have bought a bottle when it was available Cafe Tuberosa.

I’m wearing Oak in Oak today (Scents of Wood), fell off my Jovoy sampling because I just didn’t feel like wearing something new.

I’m having a bit of rough week with my son. He’s been not wanting to go to school…. sigh. I’m still working on trying to figure out why. I suspect it’s a combo of hormones (he’s 13), the blues, and maybe being bored at school. Parenting a teen is no fun. Aside from a congenital health issue/disability, he’s always been so easy. A chatty, wise, and sweet kid, this is throwing me for a loop!

Drama, plus, honestly, it was boring! I loved school before, and later, but even when my son was in middle school I would look at his reading and think, why are they trying to get 13 and 14 year olds to read this? It’s a tough enough age already, they ought to find more engaging material.

My son used to sneak graphic novels and read them during class, now they are probably all looking at their phones.

I wore Heeley Cardinal today on the occasion that I had to sit in a small conference room with a handful of others for 2-3 hours Cardinal is subtle and well-liked, judging by compliments.

I was testing out my Narciso Rodriguez bottles in light of the CP. Narciso Rodriguez for Her EDT (solid black bottle) was one my earliest purchases in 2006 after I started collecting perfume and it still smells mostly how I remember it. But I bought a smaller bottle of EDP years later (pink bottle but mine is a limited edition opalescent magenta) and that one seems to have turned. It smell like EDT was mixed with some chemical and something that smells like wintergreen. Narciso meets BenGay! Yuck. I will probably end up tossing it.

I also have the frosty white bottle NR Musc for Her. I missed out on the original Musc and was hoping this would be similar. I do quite like it, maybe even wear it more than the EDT.
