Your references to your cat always make me smile. When I was newly single, I dated a series of Larrys. My family started numbering them when I got to the third one (“was that Larry Number Two or Larry Number Three?”). 😂 Number Four was alternately the best and worst of them (and also the last of them), but he was also the one that my own cat loved the most, hence my smiles.

Weird, right? One more story: Larry Number Four and I went to a block party in his neighborhood and randomly sat down at a picnic table with four other people and introduced ourselves. The other four people introduced themselves, of course, and their names were (I kid you not) Barry, Mary, Gary and Jerry. We almost died laughing.
I recently spent $2.50 a can on wet food for Teflon and Spooky. And it was the small cans, too.

I also love that teapot, and compared to some others featured on Tuesdays it is cheap as chips. I’m in another of my Rogue Discovery Set, Derviche. Too much vanilla for me, but it certainly works for cooler weather. I will say that so far, all of the Rogue fragrances would work better in cold weather, no spring or summer scents so far.
I mentioned yesterday that I purchased one of their tuberose scents. I am wearing it this winter so maybe a lot of the fragrances at Rogue work best in cooler weather. Not sure since I have only sampled two of them.
The tea cups / tumblers are quite cute too.

I think that I am partly anosmic to Omnia. I get a lovely tangerine top note, then a bit of spicy soap and that’s it. A very quiet and reserved scent on me.
Happy Tuesday. I’m having an incense day. On the back of one hand I have Tam Dao (old mountain temple). On the back of the other, Kyoto (old box of memories in attic). In the crease of one elbow I have Ummagumma (chocolate incense) and in the crease of the other, Encens Suave (vanilla incense). Of course, those are very brief descriptors, there is much more to all of them. And I like them all!

Incense lovers, do incense scents sometimes smell soapy to you? Not all of them, but I’m thinking more of the churchy ones like Avignon, La Liturgie des Heures, maybe Bois d’Encens…. I’m trying to figure out what note they contain that makes me think of soap.
I do think frankincense sometimes smells sharply soapy. But maybe that’s just my nose!

I tried Ummagumma recently but only for an hour before a shower. Really liked it but need to see how it plays out. Chocolate incense didn’t sound to me like it would work but I think it will. Glad to be reminded of it!

We have people coming early today so I had to set an alarm (unusual in these post-retirement times), and I was so deeply asleep when the alarm went off that it completely discombobulated me. As a result, I needed something light and pretty and soothing to scent my morning, and I chose Iroaz. It’s working well — I’m feeling much more grounded now.

First of all, I am terrible at describing perfumes, but many on here wear it so maybe someone else will chime in. If you like iris scents then you will most likely enjoy it. It was a blind buy for me and I am so glad I bought it. I find it to be mostly Iris and maybe woody with some powder too. It is very soft and would be office friendly. I think it is close to the skin and doesn’t project a lot, but enough. Any others care to comment?
I recommend the VCA B’I. It’s woody iris with a touch of vanilla, not really sweet, but just enough to soften it a bit.

Last night, I sprayed on a sample of Roja Dove Beguiled. What a huge mistake! It was a creamy sandalwood bomb on me that triggered a very bad headache a couple of minutes later. I was not expecting the sandalwood to be so strong on this perfume. No matter how many times I try, scents with a sandalwood dominant note become a torture for me. Anyway, another sample goes to the goodbye pile. I am gonna have tons of fun going thru the big pile of samples and decants!

I don’t have any NR perfumes so instead I’m doing a week of Ayala Moriel perfumes. Hers is a name I never see mentioned these days, but she was talked about more in the MakeupAlley days. She’s a natural perfumer in Canada, and I recently came across a baggie filled with samples of her line that are virtually unused. I also had some samples outside of that baggie, so I’ve got plenty to work with. Today I’m in a gorgeous green chypre called Ayalitta. Yesterday was an even more gorgeous spicy citrus floral called Palas Arena.
One thing I appreciate about the fleeting nature of most natural perfumes is that you can easily wear more than one perfume in the same day. I’ll reapply some Ayalitta in the afternoon and then wear something completely different in the evening.
Oh, that’s a great idea! I have a bag of AM vials somewhere.

Next up in my Jovoy sampling is La Liturgie des Heures. It’s really really nice. I don’t know enough about incense scents to know how this ranks with others, I’d love to try some side by side. Of the ones I’ve tried, this reminds me most of Avignon.

Yesterday was the first day of our semester, and my first day of teaching on my home campus since December 2021. I got through it, but discovered that at some point in the past year a mouse had come into my office and eaten the contents of about 30 K cups of hot cocoa – chewed right through the seals. So I am gathering cleaning supplies to deal with that tomorrow (our housekeeping staff has been reduced severely, and it will be faster for me just to take care of it myself). I never keep food in my office, but I honestly didn’t think that these things would be a problem – and with the pandemic leading to so much time off campus for everyone, I kind of forgot that they were there.
I am traveling to an international conference next week, my first solo international travel in many, many years, and I am not looking forward to the travel part, although the conference itself is quite exciting. please send any good travel vibes you can spare my way!
Given my anxiousness about the trip, and the need to bring some kind of coherence to my presentation, I probably will be away from NST until I return. But for today, I am enjoying my two heavy sprays of Winter Palace!

I spent from around 12:30 to 3:30 glued to the TV for weather news as a strong storm system moved through and we had tornado warnings. There was a bad tornado in the southeast quadrant of town, and images of the damage on TV now are pretty horrible. I feel lucky. The sun even came back out here for a bit! I do have perfume news to report but have been too distracted and worried. There was tremendous rain with thunder and lightning.
