It’s Friday and the International Day of Acceptance. RIP David Crosby. And happy 77th to David Lynch! Our community project for today: Pick a favorite Lynch work or character and wear a scent to match, or pick a theme (split roles? doppelgangers? surrealism?) and work with that for your fragrance choice. If you don't know (or care about) his work, you could just wear something a little weird or off-kilter.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I wanted to wear vintage Vent Vert, since Balmain reissued the fragrance in 1990, the same year that Twin Peaks debuted, and I thought a bitter green would nicely capture the atmosphere of the show. But I don't seem to have any, so I went with CB I Hate Perfume CB93, for its galbanum and fir / pine notes. It's not quite right but it'll have to do.
Reminder: on 1/27, wear a fragrance by Narciso Rodriguez, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Sheryl Lee as Laura Palmer and Lara Flynn Boyle as Donna Hayward, in the Pilot episode of Twin Peaks, 1990.
I never got into watching Twin Peaks, and I’m not sure why. Seems like it would have been right up my alley. I would have been in college at the time and maybe I was too busy studying…? More likely that I was too busy partying.🫢 details details.
Anyway, I went with the obvious choice of Dune. I can’t even remember if I’ve seen it, lol, but I’m taking points anyway! I have seen Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, and as I said earlier this week, I found them so disturbing that once was enough for me.
It’s Friday and it felt so good to not have to wake to an alarm this morning. The sun is trying-c’mon! I think we’ve had 2-3 days of sun in the past 4 weeks. The struggle is real.😞
Hoping you get more sun soon! We’ve been blasted this past week!
🌞🌞
Thanks JB, I hope so too!🌞
2-3 days is about right and not even full days! At least you smell great!🌞
Thanks! Yeah, the weather pattern we are in really stinks, the only saving grace is that the days are getting longer.
When I was in college, we combined the parties and Twin Peaks. 🙂 You smell wonderful!
Haha, that’s awesome.😆 Thanks!
We were in college at the same time! And I never got into Twin Peaks either. Busy between work-study, and study-studying.
Happy Friyay!
Wick Reine du Volcan for a second time this week.Weird and wonderful like Twin Peaks.
I always thought Lara Flynn Boyle a beautiful woman!
Spent the AM at the DMV to renew my drivers’ licence. It was rather painless at 43 minutes in and out.
✌🏻🌹🤗
Geez..I avoid the DMV at all costs. I love in the cartoon movie Zootopia they have the DMV works as sloths. My feelings exactly.
*workers
Haha, yes!
Haha!It was usually like that in the past, but this was surprisingly efficient. My appointment was for 8am,I was there at 7:30(they open at 8),and was out by 8:43.I loooooathe these compulsory “chores”.Next up is new ID and passport.🙌🏻🙌🏻
Oh it’s too bad they couldn’t take care of all that at once.
No,the passport and ID is a whole other department, and I’ll probably do it through my bank that provides the service and makes it a whole lot easier too.
That scene in Zootopia never fails to crack me up. But I will say our local has really tried to overcome that image, and my last experience there was fine.
She was beautiful! She should have skipped all the cosmetic surgery.
I agree.
Indeed!
I will have to do the DMV thing at the end of this year. Not looking forward to it at all. It’s a pain.
That early scene where Donna and James kiss in the night forestt is achingly beautiful and unforgettable.
When I first saw Blue Velvet I haaaaaated it. Quite a few years later I watched it again to see if I was wrong, which I often do though I’m usually not, and I was! It’s a creepy masterpiece. I think Ben would have worn something dandyish, because he’s so suave and all, and in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if he wore some vintage fifties-feeling perfume like Arpège or My Sin and totally owned it, but I’m wearing Lush V because of that grandiose violet note in the middle — totally Ben. (I still do not like the start of the scent one tiny bit, but I power through it because I know what’s coming.)
Yes, it totally is a creepy masterpiece!
Excellent choice!
I love the opening scene where the camera delves beneath the sunny suburban lawn — perfectly encapsulates what Lynch wants to reveal and what young Jeffrey is drawn to discover.
On my way to another doctor’s appointment today while wearing Estee Lauder Pleasures today.
Hope your appointment goes well! You smell lovely.
Fingers crossed that your appointment was a quick and boring one.
I’m in the final unworn fragrance of my Ramon Monegal discovery set, which is Olé. What I’m mostly smelling is pineapple. I’ve enjoyed sticking to one discovery set and wearing all the scents that I haven’t tried yet, to get a feel of the perfume house. I don’t think that I would invest in any full bottles for this set.
It is nice to spend time on one brand. Sounds like this one is not going to cost you long term 🙂
Black Saffron-its a sort of weird scent, I think could get partial point for the CP. Its smells like an old library/leather books, perfect for volunteering at the library today.
Thumbing through the paper and listening to NPR.
I started to read The Sound of Waves by Mishima and Papyrus by Vallejo. Reading both at the same time.
Ted Baker skirt today and Chantecaille eye shadows
Black Saffron was my second love from Byredo!(First being Accord Oud!)You smell fabulous.
I have a travel spray of Black Saffron. I bought the FB of Slow Dance, and I wish that I did the reverse. I tend to reach for Black Saffron more..It always happens like this right!
Yup!I don’t own a fb of Black Saffron either, strangely enough!I bought a whole lot of other releases from them,I wasn’t sure if I did buy a bLack Saffron so I just had a check!Lol!
Black Saffron is a lovely scent. You smell great!
I was going to twin with madtowngirl in Dune today, then I thought I would wear Commes des Garcons 2 for the weird ink note, but I finally decided on Salvador Dali for surrealism. I think pyramus wore it recently and got me thinking about it. It smells wonderful. Happy Friday everyone.
Ink note! I like that in Miller Harris Tender.
CdG 2 is reasonably priced at luckyscent and there are samples available 😊
Happy Friday! Dali is such a great pick! Which one are you wearing?
The original, everything but the kitchen sink.
Yes!But we love it!
Wearing GoBH Red again! It just hit the spot yesterday – it’s one I’ve had for a while and never got to know. No CP tie-in that I know of. I’d planned to wear Dune but it did not match my mood. Red is wafting all around the house, too. With older bottles, I often spritz the perfume into a tissue before wearing it (unless it’s, say, L’Art di Gucci and there are only a few sprays left 🙂 ) then leave the tissue out to radiate scent. Happy Friday, all!
You smell wonderful, Red is insanely projecting and long-lasting, I could still smell it this morning.
Hello!
My scent is Annick Goutal’s Vetiver-I am not familiar with the works of DL, but I think he’s famous for some slightly disturbing things, so I chose this. I think I just smell clean 🙂
Smelling clean is sort of an antidote to the whole DL-universe,you defo score points for that!
I love the way you think 🙂 Thank you!
I’m in 24, Faubourg, in part for the super-saturated, Hollywood-glam visuals in so much of Lynch’s work, and in part just because I love it. Happy Friday everyone!
That’s a great pick!
You smell great, happy Friday to you as well!
It goes fantastic with opulent fabrics like Blue Velvet….🤣😉
Great choice! Happy Friday!
Have been offline much this week. Started the new remote job, so my head is kind of spinning with all the new info.
Quite like David Lynch, so it was hard to decide. So many would seem to work. Took the easy route and have decided on Trésor because Isabella Rossellini…. Although I think her character might have been a bit more POAL.
Can’t help but laugh when I think of Lynch. We had an artist friend who owned a bldg in Soho that looked into his apartment when he was with Rossellini. They didn’t have blinds or curtains. So New York.
Great pick!
Love the Rosselini anecdote!
I haven’t worn Trésor in ages, I should pull that one out!
Vintage Tresor is beautiful. 🌹
Wearing Mon Parfum Cheri par Camille for it’s divisiveness and unique character. Like Lynch’s work, people tend to have strong opinions on it.
I’ve yet to try that one, but it sounds like a good match!
Sad to say, that particular AG has been d/c’ed and is very hard to find.
Yeah, but I have at least one sample! 🤣
What a great choice!
I am a huge fan of Lynch and of just about everything he’s done. I loved Mulholland Falls and Lost Highway are but my first love was Twin Peaks and it’s still a very special thing for me. During the original run, few of my friends in Poland watched it, but within our small circle we had a ball, placing bets on who killed Laura – need to say, I had it right – and enjoying the whole otherworldly, not-yer-average-TV-show vibe. And I loved the Twin Peaks Return, too, especially since this was within the whole new world of social media and interactions with so many people online. The Twin Peaks subreddit is still going strong.
I wanted to pick a scent that has the dense, foreboding forest vibe and initially I thought of Slumberhouse Norne, but as I was trying to find my bottle, I thought it was too much of a straightforward forest scent. I settled on Aftelier Bergamoss, which has the rotting forest floor, the little too bright and optimistic bergramot and hints of overripe fruit, like the decay of living things that is a constant motive in Lynch’s artistic output. Plus it has a element of forbidden and illegal since it actually has real oakmoss in it! I think it’s working but I might still wear Norne later.
Just wanted to note that Lynch has directed a number of really great perfume commercials, Opium and lately Gucci by Gucci that are like mini movies with a great mood.
Great pick!Lots of mentions about the perfume ads this week yes,I never knew!
Love this!
Great tribute!
I’m in A Lab on Fire’s Hallucinogenic Pearl for Henry Spencer in Eraserhead. This was David Lynch’s first feature-length film, and back in 1977 it was a popular midnight movie, showing to a crowd who liked to enhance their experience with LSD, mescaline, weed and the like. The perfume itself is not for me, but I think its name and the brand name are a good match. The reviews on Fragrantica are some of the most hilarious I’ve ever read.
I’ve loved this cp, Robin! I adore and admire David Lynch as a director and as a person.
Here’s a fun clip:
https://youtu.be/TqZpi8zAqe0
and a compilation of his work that he chose in a competition :
https://youtu.be/IugOfDBWcGc
Happy Friday, friends!
I watched it again with my son just the other week and the black and white scenes/ imagery are still so beautiful. Thanks for the links.
You’re welcome. It really is beautifully done.
I love Eraserhead too. I was thinking of something industrial or with smoke for it. I’ve never tried the one you’re wearing but now I want to!
Industrial or smokey would definitely work too!
So glad you enjoyed it, and so glad Eraserhead got a mention. I have not seen it in so long I barely remember it, other than being quite weirded out.
Vintage Poison for me today, for a few reasons inspired by the CP: The colour of the bottle and the packaging, which seem rich and Lynch-ian, first. And then there’s the somehow too-muchness of it. Plus, Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks remind me of university, where I first saw them, and I bought a bottle of Poison back then, thinking it was a “grown up” scent.
That’s a nice memory association.
Love your choice!
Great choice!
Which version of Poison did you get back in the day?
Straight up, regular, just Poison. 😀 The decant I have now is “retro” EDT…not sure how old it is, but to my nose it smells pretty much right on.
I should have said concentration instead of version. My bad.
Happy Birthday to the brilliant provocateur David Lynch.
Quasi CP points to me for thinking of SotD Gap Grass in honor of the very underrated The Straight Story. But I don’t have any Gap Grass (or Demeter Grass), sadly.
Instead I’m in vintage Shiseido Zen EdC. Lynch is not a Zen practitioner, but Agent Cooper surely seems to be. (Also, while I was looking for grassy samples in my stash, I dug up an ancient vial of CdG Wood Coffee, which is a damn fine coffee scent and I wish they’d bring it back.)
RIP David Crosby.
Oh, gap grass was my signature scent for a while! I wish I had some too.
Zen is a great pick!
I loved Gap Grass. The current version is okay, but just not the same. Speaking of “provocateur”, I thought of Agent Provocateur for the cp.
I had no idea there was a new version of Gap Grass out there. Caveat acknowledged, I will still have to investigate.
I can relate.
The original Shiseido Zen is a great choice!
The Straight Story is a lovely film.
It occurred to me a cherry scent would work…pie!
Black Cashmere again for me today since it’s still the only perfume I can smell
I hope things will improve for you, and soon!
Hang in there! The fact that you can smell anything seems a really good sign.
Twin Peaks is the only David Lynch work I’ve seen, as I recall. I was both freaked out and fascinated by it. I think the show gave me nightmares. To be honest, I’m retrofitting my SOTD: When We Cuddle and I Can Smell Your Perfume on my Clothes, by Andy Tauer. Quirky name, but what a comforting perfume! Perfect for this rainy, chilly day.
I adore the name of that perfume!
Me too, J B! I love everything about it.
I have an unlabeled Tauer sample that smells great, and I think it’s that one. Normally I don’t save those, but that one I did.
It’s a big benzoin and amber thing on me, if that helps.
Thank you!
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Clouds Parfum
Excellent! All this week I’ve been wearing perfumes with iris notes. Iris notes range from ethereal to earthy rooty and matches the range of David Lynch-ian productions. 🤣
Today would have been my dad’s 91st birthday. We still miss him.
Happy Lunar New Year in case I fail to mention it tomorrow (New Year’s Eve)! I normally would get Chinese Zodiac stamps but I either passed them by or they were not issued.
I have 2 additions to my porcelain / clay collection:

And in other news, I finally got a cashier’s check for what I wanted to convert to a higher rate CD. The guy who helped me asked what amount would I was planning to take out and when I told him the number, he got flustered and asked if I wanted it in Rupee cash. No and no (and I don’t look one iota South Indian although I was mistaken for one many years ago) – a cashier’s check would be fine.
I’m with you on the iris (well, not today). I wore Iris Silver Mist one of the days this week, thinking about the CP although I don’t know that I had time to post about it.
Glad you finally got the check! Cashier’s checks are such a pain. The tellers at our bank here don’t do them very often, and so it takes FOREVER when you need one.
Expertise seems to vary all over. At one bank, a teller who looked more experienced kept asking / telling the other teller “Did you know?” / “Here’s how …” and the other teller just grunted.
Iris is a great pick, and always smells amazing. I hope you have some time today to sit with good memories of your dad.
Thanks, Sistine. It’s been a while and all the siblings had great memories.
🤗🌹
Thanks, J B!
I didn’t know you collected squirrels! The one’s in the pictures are very cute!🐿
It was my second squirrel! They’re cute!
Rupee? What the what? Even if you were East Indian, why would they assume that when you’re in the US? I had a bestie for many years who was born in Vietnam but was actually mixed heritage. She was often mistaken for almost every darker skinned beauty who has long black hair- from Sade to Pocahontas! We went to see the Disney Pocahontas when it came out a million years ago, and when we were leaving a kid pointed at her and said- “Look mommy! It’s Pocahontas!” 😂
Seriously – I don’t know who was more surprised: me for hearing the question or the guy making the big oops! Your friend sounds like a real beauty!
I like your little squirrels a lot, and was surprised when I looked up that artist that she’s here in Houston!
I first encountered her work at the Menil Bookstore in March 2020 and I’m glad I persisted.
I like the way you think, iris is a great choice!
Indeed it is! Thanks, Holly.
Midnight is gorgeous!
I know that there is a sizeable Indian community up in parts of North Jersey, but seriously? Rupees?
Hugs to you, remembering your Dad.
How did he even know where I live? Although I suppose he had to look at my account, but even so …
Midnight IS gorgeous. When I first saw his photo, I immediately contacted the artist and had to wait a short bit as both him and Squirrel 2 were under consideration for purchase by a museum board (for personal use).
Memories – they’re nice but then you remember they are in a different place.
Iris is great choice. Earthy and mysterious.
Hope memories of your dad bring you comfort on this day..
Thanks, akimon!
Great community project! I love David Lynch and Mulholland Drive is one of my favorite movies. Because the amnesiac chooses Rita for her name after seeing a Rita Hayworth poster, I picked Rita Hayworth’s favorite perfume, Shalimar.
Great pick!
Perfect!
Nice!
I’m going with the movie Rabbits, a series of short movies featuring humanoid rabbits in a box-like green room doing not much: ironing, sitting. Creepy and weird…laughter sometimes breaks in ( It might be on MUBI). Not sure I had a perfume to match- a bit of a horror show scent is needed. I would wear Aura .
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kBnyhOMVlZk
Oh! I’d never seen that, brilliant! Aura would be a great match.
I couldn’t watch it because of the sound(s)!
Fits well with Lunar New Year, too!
I’m wearing Marissa Zappas Petrichor for Lynch’s weather reports. Many thanks to spiderplant for posting about them. They are truly delightful!
Great match! I love Petrichor.
What is not to love about the DL Weather Report?
Excellent!
Wearing CDG Hinoki so I smell like a log.
Oh, good thing you aren’t sitting next to my dog, who loves logs in a very big way!
https://www.instagram.com/tv/CfuhL0Rgvx8/?igshid=Zjc2ZTc4Nzk=
Adorable–it would almost be worth it.
Spot on!
HA.
That’s so cool. Well done!
Still on a F Bianchi stretch with Libertine Neroli. Not completely CP but libertine could definitely describe more than a few of his characters.
Well done! How do you like Libertine Neroli?
Its nice. Its my 1st time sampling so cant speak to its nuances. It definitely has a sweeter opening and a smidge of powder to me which I like So far its a thumbs up.
Thanks!
I planned to be CP compliant and wear Keiko Mecheri’s Mulholland, to pair with Mulholland Drive. However, I couldn’t get the silly sample vial open. Grrr. So I randomly grabbed another sample and am wearing D. S. and Durga’s Rose Atlantic.
I was in 8th grade when Twin Peaks started and I really shouldn’t have watched it, because it scared the pants off me!
We must be the same age then,I was also in 8th grade when it aired!
I was fascinated by the log-lady,and that Julee Cruise song is still a favorite.
I hadn’t heard of that perfume, must look it up!
I’m popping in briefly to say that we’re heading off shortly for the weekend to go to a wedding. I’m wearing Neroli Outrenoir.
Enjoy the wedding and weekend!
You smell wonderful!
Enjoy!
Have a wonderful time!
Still not vibing with DL. I have nothing to base this on since I don’t think I’ve seen a single thing that he was involved in. Links I followed from here failed to stimulate my curiosity, so I guess I’m just too simple and gauche to be in his fan base. 🤷🏻♀️
I am enjoying Le Lion today as well as sunshine. It’s so fabulous to see it, but I’m still very happy it’s not 80F and sunny! I like 40-60’s and sunny the best! 🌞
Had to drop off a fedex document yesterday and of course the closest drop box is in Astoria. Lucky for me the weather was fine as I went over that engineering marvel (monstrosity!) called the Astoria-Megler Bridge. 😅
I made the most of it and stopped at Fred Meyer to load up on food and essentials to the tune of $154!! Wow! The only meat I bought was turkey bacon! I’m going to have to systematically look at my costs and start couponing and being more discriminating about what I buy. Costs are absolutely insane.
For all the couponers out there? Since I never get a paper, how do I ACTUALLY coupon? Like, do I still need a physical piece of paper? Or is it all electronic now? I’m ashamed to say I’m very ignorant about this…😕
Download the Fred Meyer app. They have digital coupons.
Ahh, I see. Well this could get out of control for me since I travel all over and frequent at least a dozen different grocery stores depending on where I’m at. I’ll need to get an additional smart phone just for couponing…🙃
Yes, it’s a PITA. But I notice paper “sale flyers” near the entrances of most grocery stores that have coupons, so that might be another option.
Good to know, thanks!
Grocery shopping has become increasingly stressful and depressing. You do have to electronically clip the coupons now, like foxbins said.
Yeah, very complicated for me as described in my response to Foxbins above. WHY is everything- from opening a package to making a reservation to accessing work software SO dam* DIFFICULT?! I know I’m preaching to the choir, but I’m so sick of all the nonsense that’s “electronic” and computer based systems that are SUPPOSED to make everyone’s life easier.. 🤬! This is the kind of stuff the stresses me out because it’s inefficient to the nth degree.
I 1000% agree with you, Deva! Well said.👍
I resisted doing it forever but then my store’s made it so you can’t even get a sale price without joining their stupid program. If I had the money to pay full price I wouldn’t join. Frankly I think it’s an invasion of privacy to have my purchases tracked.
I never even thought of that but you are absolutely correct! Tried to make a reservation and this is how the convo went:
Q: How many people in your party?
Me: One
Q:Do you have any pets?
Me: Yes
Q: What kind?
Me: is there an extra charge? If not, why are you asking?
Q: We need to know what kind and how big…
Me: Why? Is there a weight or breed restriction?
Q: We’ll, no. We just…
Me: okay, so you want to know all about my pet, you’re charging me an extra $10 reservation fee even though I’m at the park and want to stay tonight, which is not a reservation. There is no one in the office on a Thursday at 4pm and no one in the park to ask for instructions about picking a spot. There is no phone number for information and no internet service to look up any information on line, so please tell me why I have to pay an extra $10 reservation fee and why am I getting 10 questions about a pet when you have no reason to ask?
Q: You’re being very difficult! I have to charge you if you call this line!
Me: What other options do I have to avoid incurring extra expenses and questions?
Q: (Now yelling at me on the phone) I don’t KNOW. But the site you’re in says it’s reserved!
Me: Well, there’s no one here, there’s no supplies and there’s no reserved sign on the site. How would I know it’s reserved…?
Q: (really yelling at me now!) I just told you it’s reserved..!
Me: Good bye, and I hung up.
Who needs that?! I just left and drove back to the hospital and spent the night in their parking lot.
I still get paper coupons in the mail. Don’t necessarily need a newspaper to get them. The local grocery stores have been encouraging customers to download their apps for digital coupons, though.
Yeah, I’m not at “home” to ever receive coupons via snail mail. My mail forwarding service does an excellent job of tossing all those out and only forwarding me the essentials. Like bills! 🤣
There’s a Costco in Warrenton — that’s the way to really save. I’m guessing storage space would be a limiting factor for you, but maybe you could find someone to split with?
Yes, I saw that when I was over that way yesterday, but the membership is really not worth it for me. Even when I lived in a real house, it’s only me and so food wise, most things would go bad before I had a change to finish, especially perishable items, of course. Now, I am very limited on space, so no 12 roll toilet paper savings for me. 😒
Clementines and yogurt smoothie
I picked Avon Far Away Royale, very balsamic and strong, too much tbh but tonight for the CP I hesitated between two green scents for the misty forests of Twin Peaks, Blue Grass and the one I chose finally, Cacharel Eden. It is oppressively green with no citrus to lift it and very weird like the universe of David Lynch.
Sounds like something I’d like! I have the feeling that I must have tried it as I adore green scents. Do you like it?
Yes, it’s compelling but it could also be described as kitchen cleaner, do sample it again, the current version is very good.
Eden has been consistently described as weird on every perfume related website I have ever been on.
Yes, so unique.
“Oppressively green” – I am now absolutely compelled to investigate Eden.
😃 Do sample it, it’s a must smell perfume, the current version is faithfull, just a little less patchouli, the vintage I also have has held up very well.
Eden is a terrific choice!
Thank you, it imposed itself.
Still sticking with CdG for off-kilter, I’m wearing Wonderwood from a sample.
I thought of wearing Concrete today for a Lynch tie-in to, maybe, Eraserhead.
I chose You or Someone Like You for a few reasons. The name fits the doppelganger theme. It’s based on a book set in Los Angeles like Mulholland Drive (and possibly other Lynch movies). And it’s a bit unsettling with the blackcurrant note. In fact, I’ve decided I don’t really like where perfume, so the sample has gone into my “give away” baggie.
Nice pairing! Hmm…shame that one isn’t included in my ELdO discovery set that I bought for Boxing Day. But…I’ll be marinating in Poison for the rest of the day, anyway, since it NEVER goes away. 😀
Well you certainly smell great reeking of Poison!
Nice pick! I haven’t tried that one yet, but probably have a sample floating around somewhere.
It definitely works better in warmer weather, so I’d wait a little longer to try it out.
Thanks for the suggestion!
This is an excellent pick!
Thanks!
My sotd is DK Gold to match the Isabella Rosselini character in Blue Velvet. I chose it because Lily’s are both beautiful and sad.
9 hours to go and then I will be on staycation for 1 whole week!
Woo-hoo!
A week of staycation, I’m so excited for you!
Thank you. Me too!
Good choice.
Thanks!
Omg! I hope you enjoy the Hel* out of your staycation! Don’t waste it doing laundry and cleaning. That will always be there waiting for you, unlike 99.9% of men!😉
Do something special with the kiddos and then tell us how much fun you all had! I love hearing happy family stories! 🥰
Well I am planning on a good declutter of my son’s closet. It will be fun for me but not for him! Lol.
Oh, I love this pairing! I hope you have a wonderful staycation!
Thank you!
Happy staycation, lillyjo. My phone has “lillyjo” already locked and loaded
Thank goodness my phone remembers hajusuuri! That’s a hard one to spell.
Enjoy your staycation and please do something fun or relaxing during it! You deserve that.
I plan on lot’s of relaxation!
Wonderful Lillyjo, treat yourself to some fun activities.
Finishing up my trio of Twin Peaks scents from House of Matriarch. Today’s scent is my favorite of the three, Future’s Past: “Enter the enchanted forest at it’s darkest – and brightest. Sandarac, tamarack and balsam set a deep and haunting baseline as a minor chord of Snoqualmie Forest evergreens (Douglas Fir in chief proportions) beckon and owl feathers flutter above the damp earth.” Lovely forest-y scent.
Survived another trip to the vet this morning (just a checkup) with my howling cat. Perhaps I should wear earplugs for these outings…
Thankfully mine only howls when we try to get her in the carrier. After that, it’s just the occasional resigned, resentful mewl to remind us she’s there and unhappy. Earplugs sound like a good idea!
Future’s Past sounds lovely, and the name is great!
I get it.
I have one cat that yowls continuously during her trips to the vet. She’s fine when she gets there, then yowls continuously on the trip home. Not a happy kitteh! 😾
Oh, I was hoping someone had that House of Matriarch Twin Peaks set! I was tempted to buy it but never got around to it. Enjoy wearing them!
Do you ever take your cat anywhere except to the vet? Maybe you need to take on a trip to Wendy’s where she gets a bite of your grilled chicken sandwich or whatever? 🙂
I am wearing L’Heure Bleue in homage to The Elephant Man (the movie), which I love passionately. I went to see it four nights in a row when it first opened. (Back in the days before video, DVD, and streaming.) It’s not really a typical Lynch movie, so perhaps if you can’t get into his weirder work you can try it. It’s shot in the most beautiful, atmospheric black and white, and has extraordinary acting by John Hurt in the lead role, and by Anthony Hopkins and others. I absolutely sob during the final scene. There are scenes of him remembering his beautiful mother, accompanied by a tinkling music box tune, that are also extremely beautiful, and it struck me that a scent like L’Heure Bleue would suit her as a lovely but sad Victorian lady. There’s an air of melancholy to the scent that matches the entire movie. Be aware that it does represent a quite deformed human and he experiences moments of great suffering in his life. But it’s uplifting by the end.
Actually the music box tune plays in the opening sequence, which is rather abstract and dream-like; it’s more like a typical Lynch movie (or at least more like Eraserhead) than anything else in the rest of the whole film. You can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHswu1Ad_wI.
That is one of my favorite movies of all time, and L’Heure Bleue is a brilliant match.
Great choice. Amazing movie..those scenes when Merrick is abused by the spectators ( Michael Elphick’s performance of evil). By the way I’ve started the metaverse reading you mentioned.
I saw this movie when I was around 12. Those scenes made me bawl my eye’s out. Ugh.. I could never watch it again.
Many thanks to Robin for appeasing those of us who are primarily coffee drinkers with Tuesday’s post and link to the article on David Lynch’s coffee drinking (never knew he had a line of coffees!) and to Kanuka for the link to the Opium commercial. We loved Twin Peaks and mention of it brought back many ‘together’ moments for the three of us glued to the TV set for our favorite program. So, for David, Twin Peaks, Agent Dale Cooper 🥰, Opium, and ☕️, my SOTD is YSL Black Opium, the coffee-scented flanker in the black off-beat sparkly bottle that’s long been a favorite of mine. I like to ‘wear’ coffee as much as I enjoy drinking it – rich and ‘black as midnight on a moonless night’ just like Dale did ❤️.
🎬We saw ‘A Man Called Otto’ this week with Tom Hanks and, if you were a fan of the book, ‘A Man Called Ove,’ I highly recommend.👍. Tomorrow we’ll be going to the Chicago Botanic Garden Super Seed Saturday and I’ll be thinking Spring 🌱 🪴! First time it’s being held since the pandemic started and I’m really looking forward to the Seed Swap; we get so much of what we plant for free at this event – many organic, many heritage hard-to-find varieties.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!
I hope you have a good time at the seed swap. What a terrific idea. Report back please!
It’s a really cool event. Attendees are encouraged to share seeds from their garden but there is no requirement to ‘swap.’ The seed companies give away the current year’s seeds they didn’t sell so there are usually many varieties of veggie, herb, perennial and annual 🌺 seeds available as well as specialty items, and various demonstrations and lectures.
Hope you get some wonderful heritage/heirloom seeds this weekend!
Me, too! Nothing says ‘hope’ to me like the thought of planting 🌱!
Not doing the CP today. I’m not much of a Lynch fan, having only seen parts of his version of “Dune”. Twin Peaks was a big NOPE for me. Possible picks would have been the original Alien EdP, Dune, or Farrell GIRL. Just not feeling any of those today though.
“We are stardust, we are golden
We are billion year old carbon
And we’ve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden”
RIP to both David Crosby and noted Philly area DJ Jerry Blavat. His career spanned at least 6 decades! 🎶
SOTD = still in Jasmin de Pays. It was humming along when I woke up this morning and I thought “Why not try and thunk that vial today?” Didn’t happen. I still have 1 or 2 drops left in there.
You’re so close to that thunk!
Yeah, it’s maddening!
Just a side note on Lynch and Twin Peaks… if you’re a fan and you’ve never watched the Psych episode Dual Spires, you should. It’s a very clever and funny spoof.
Thanks LizzieB!
This has been my favorite CP ever! I love David Lynch’s films, and everyone has been so insightful in pairing perfumes with them. The supplementary links that Kanuka and others have posted have enhanced my appreciation of his work. It’s also prompted me to rewatch Twin Peaks, which I’m enjoying so much. Massive thanks to Robin and everyone!
Oh, I’m so glad.
Luuuurve David Lynch – always have and I’ve watched all of his movies and all of Twin Peaks (Mulholland Drive is my fav)
I wore, like someone else above, Norne by Slumberhouse. But not the fragrance – the perfume oil. Fantastic stuff!
Really happy to see so many fans!
I as totally stumped by this week’s CP, but reading all the comments here reminded me of David Lynch’s connection to Isabella Rossellini. I should have worn Manifesto in her honor! Maybe I’ll wear it tomorrow. Today’s SOTD was Miller Harris’ Violet Ida.
Sorry, I know not everyone is a fan!
Very late and wearing a drop of Worth Je Reviens because it’s blue (Blue Velvet). I don’t remember the film very well but I do remember 9 of my family members going into a small shop in NYC on a Christmas outing, only to be joined by Isabella Rossellini and her brother. I started discreetly wacking my relatives’ arms in the hopes that someone would appreciate the moment with me. Alas, I was the only one who recognized that we were in the presence of beauty and greatness.
What a Christmas tale!
Nice! I once saw Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger at a neighborhood diner in upper midtown NYC. Alec was very rough looking with unshaved facial hair while Kim was ethereal with an angelic glow around her head. No, I did not stop by to chat.
