It’s Hump Day and National Thesaurus Day, aka Peter Mark Roget’s birthday. More birthdays: AA Milne, Cary Grant, Philippe Starck. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Annick Goutal Nuit et Confidences, which I came across while looking for something else. (Raise your hand if that's frequently how you choose your fragrance.)
Reminder: 1/20 is David Lynch's birthday. Pick a favorite Lynch work or character and wear a scent to match, or pick a theme (split roles? doppelgangers? surrealism?) and work with that for your fragrance choice. If you don't know (or care about) his work, you could just wear something a little weird or off-kilter.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: Philippe Starck's MyWorld Sofa for Cassina, featuring built-in charging and multiple configurations ("An invitation to comfort and at the same time, a structural and aesthetic challenge that reflects a world where work and leisure time are blurred, imbuing contemporary furniture with multiple functions") seems like the perfect furniture for a global pandemic, but it debuted in 2013.
I love that sofa but I really need one of these delightful Cassina Wink chairs!
https://www.cassina.com/ww/en/products/wink.html
Get both, loll around the rest of your life!
The best advice!
I am seriously on a quest for a comfortable, multi-positon chair. Everything seems to be made for tall, long-legged people.
I tried out a mother’s chair somewhere that was the right size and had a rocking ottoman, but the seat front cut into my hamstrings. 😩
I enjoyed the tui video yesterday. So many of them in one garden! Must be the warmer north. They’re interesting birds who develop regional dialects, so the tui around my garden would sound different from ones just across the city. They also have wonderful long tongues…good for nectar feeding and singing.
I just found nozknoz’s link from yesterday – wonderful. I googled the tui call after your post yesterday and found a different video. So much fun.
I’m glad I looked them up. A downside here is that our birds are mostly relatively boring compared to the bold colors and eccentric behaviors elsewhere.
Tui is great onomatopoeia, too.
sipping Eros tea-floral -sweet and rich
SOTD is Alahiiiine but from the solid perfume. I am on my last refill and I enjoy the solid perfume over the spray.
my youngest is seven today. I am sure some of you can remember when I announced my birth on nst, seems like yesterday.
I remember!
Happy Birthday to your youngest!
I started the book Elisa Shua Dusapin, Winter in Sokcho. I recommendation on BdJ. Its a quick read-but I am loving it. I think the tea, my perfume and the cold, pair well with this reading.
I have just started it too. Happy birthday today, seven is such a nice age.
7!! Time does fly. Happy birthday little ltsg.
Chubby Buddha,right?
Happiest of birthdays to the little man.
💃💃🌹✌🏻🤗
He is not so chubby now!
I remember when you announced his birth. I just can’t believe he’s 7 already! It’s Mr. SP’s birthday, too–I’d forgotten that they share a birthday! You smell wonderful.
Aww! And my grandmothers birthday (in heaven) today too. I love that he was born on her birthday because we were so close.
Would Mr SP like a balloon for his birthday , I am about to go out and find something fun..haha
I bet he would love one! 😀
How could that be? Hahaha. Happy Birthday to no-longer-chubby Buddha!
I might lose my perfumista badge for admitting this, but I’ve never tried Alahine.
Happy Birthday to the little one!
7! Time does fly. Happy Birthday to him!🎉
Happy birthday to him
Brilliant day to have birthday…it’s mine as well 😀
Happy birthday!
Seven years has flown by, I remember that well!
Wow. Your “Chubby Buddha” is seven already? And now he is making matchas and lattes for his mama. Happy Birthday to him!
Happy birthday to your son! I hope you found some fun balloons for him. When my son was around that age, he really loved the huge number balloons and we’d get one every year.
Very happy birthday to your son! Time is moving so fast.
I do remember you announcing his birth 🙂
I hope he had a wonderful day celebrating his birthday !
Good morning from another cloudy day. Nice and dry, anyway. I’m afraid winter is going to roar with a vengeance in February, when Mr ringthing has his hip surgery and I have to drive him to PT all the time.
Wearing Narciso white cube, I’ve been craving it.
I agree. I think February will stink. Good thing it’s only 28 days! If this is a leap year don’t tell me. Lol.
You smell great!
You’re in luck: all leap years are divisible by four (although not all years divisible by four are leap years, it’s a whole thing), so there will be only 28 days to suffer through. Next year, though….
I hope February is as gentle as a kitten.
I’m in Hand in Hand from my Ramon Monegal discovery set. Basically, its rose and oud. Pretty enough.
We’re house twins!
Bulgari Black. Lots of people wore it last week so it got into my brain. Just a little bit strange and entirely unique: I bought it when it was launched, because it is exactly the sort of thing that tickles me.
I should have bought a bottle.
Mojave Ghost for me this morning, and it makes me think of Georgia O’Keeffe’s desert paintings. Someday I’ll own one (a reproduction — I have no illusions that an original will fall into my lap). In a nod to the CP, I wore Encre Noire at bedtime last night. There is something surreal about it that suits the Lynch oeuvre.
I love Mojave Ghost
Me too — it’s soothing yet still really interesting.
I just got a sample of this one and really like it. You smell great!
You smell gorgeous!
In Ristretto Intense Cafe…a damn fine cup of coffee.
Nicely done … and your screen name fits the Twin Peaks theme too.
Oh, double points!
Echoing SheriG – nice!
How sweet is that one? I’m wondering if I should add it to my next sample order.
Yesterday’s SOTD was Iris Silver Mist, which seemed to somehow work for the CP. (Many different facets?) It also worked for the grey rain, which I’ve been battling through all week. Having to commute to the office on transit in the rain is not my cup of tea, but today’s the last day for this week.
Of course, I have to spend part of today making a silly video lip-syncing to BTS’ “Butter” for a supposedly “zany” corporate event next week. I’m really a bit old for this, but in my new group this is a part of what I have to do, I guess. Ready for today being over.
We did one of those videos back in my corporate days — actually singing Happy Trails To You. It was awkward. Sometimes I wonder what the execs are thinking.
sounds awful. Hope there aren’t more zany things planned.
“Zany corporate event” would have me wanting to run for an exit.
You are a good sport! Hope it went well! & maybe ended up being fun? I would need a drink or 2 to prep, which tends to be shunned in most work environments.
Ugh. You are a much better sport than I ever would be.
I’m in Vanille Insensee for some vanilla comfort. I have about 40 mls of my 100 ml bottle left and I’ve already decided that I’m not going to fret that it’s no longer available in the US. When it’s gone I’ll replace it with Eau Duelle.
I’m sick again. Groan. I just felt like I was getting over being sick at Christmas and I could feel the sniffles starting over the weekend. Just a runny, stuffy nose this time, so I’m not nearly as bad as I was over Christmas. It’s more annoying than miserable. I don’t think I was sick once last winter, so I guess my body is making up for it this year.😏 At least tomorrow is my Friday so my week is already more than half done.
Hope you feel better soon!✌🏻🌹🤗🤗
Thanks J B!✌️
being sick is the pits
It really is. I just hate being sick, I don’t have the time or the patience for it!
Vanille Insensee is a good idea for comfort. Hope you feel better quickly.
Thanks springpansy! Yeah, this one of my no-brainer, easy to wear perfumes.
Boo hiss for being sick again! Get better soon.
My thoughts exactly.😠 Thanks Jalapeno!
I’m sorry you are not feeling well. Get better soon!
Thanks lillyjo!
I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks sistine!
Oh no. Sorry madtowngirl!
Thanks Robin!
Oh, yuck. Hope it passes quickly!
Happy Humpday!
Sotd!
Wick’s Reine du Volcan.I’m sure there can be a tie-in with David Lynch and “Queen of the Volcano”.Seriously good stuff,I’m near to ordering a fresh bottle, but I’ll wait until their factory sale starts on Jan 27th!(70% off it seems!)
XO’s
70% off is definitely worth waiting for!
You can’t beat that deal with a stick!
I’m testing Les Imodables Fougere Emeraude today—very interesting! It’s not a love, but it’s a unique expression of Tuberose.
I just received a plethora of samples, so lots of testing is in my future. Work is a little overwhelming right now, so new scents are especially cheering.
I hope work settles into a reasonable pattern soon!
Am all in on the CP with ELdO Dangerous Complicity, chosen with Mulholland Drive in mind. But, as Sr. spiderplant immediately pointed out, it works equally well with Wild at Heart or Blue Velvet.
Bonus points: I do not particularly care for this frag (I think it’s the ylang ylang that doesn’t do it for me), which means I have been slightly unsettled all morning, and unsettled is so very David Lynch.
Finally, so enjoying this week’s CP, because it has had me thinking about film all week.
Interesting. I did not pick up on any ylang in Dangerous Complicity.
Great match, sorry you don’t like it!
It’s also Jane Horrocks birthday and mine 🎂
So today I’m in a cloud of Portrait Of A Lady ♥️
Happy birthday! 🎊🎁🎂
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, littlecooling!
Happy Birthday!🎉
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, littlecooling! 🎉
I’m a fan of Jane Horrocks; loved her in Life is Sweet and Little Voice.
Thank you for the birthday wishes xx
Jane Horrocks in Little Voice is the best, one of my fave movies x
Happy Scented Birthday littlecooling! 🎂
Happy Birthday! So many birthdays today!
Happy Birthday and smelling so good!
Happy birthday to you, you’re smelling wonderful!
Happy birthday!
Bubble!!
Hope it was a great birthday. For both of you.
Yesterday’s SOTD was Bruno Fazzolari Unsettled, which is a fine name-match for David Lynch even if the scent itself is not unsettling (sandalwood, vanilla, pineapple).
Today I am really diving into the CP though. A few years back (oh wait, I just checked, and it was 6 years ago…) House of Matriarch released a trio of scents inspired by Twin Peaks. Today I’m wearing World of Blue: “A cloud of powdery iris beurre imparts a melancholy dreaminess.”
House of Matriarch sounds really interesting, if eye-wateringly expensive
They have endless deals though. Just sign up and you’ll start getting them.
I tried one or two from that house around 2016 — your iris one sounds perfect!
For some reason, I see Unsettled as the perfect scent for the Las Vegas strip.
https://magazine.artland.com/the-other-david-lynch-the-paintings-of-contemporary-cinemas-master-of-surrealism/
I am going with David Lynch, the painter/ artist. I didn’t know about this side of his life. He loves the smell of turpentine, apparently. Smell Bent Artist’s Studio .
I kind of like his paintings, too. They are exactly as I would have expected!
I am wearing Jo Malone Orange Blossom, combined with JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I added a splash of JM Rose Blush. Nice combo so far 🌹 🧂🍊
It’s impossible to go wrong mixing the Malones
I have tried several combinations with Jo Malone scents. Most of them work just fine.
SOTD = Ramon Monegal Impossible Iris
Very nice indeed! The inkwell bottle is pretty neat although I think it is impractical.
Would you use your mouth to remove gloves that you “commute” (any type) with? You know my answer. 😝
What in the world did you witness today?
This was actually yesterday. I go out to get lunch everyday I’m in the office and this guy who was walking towards me gripped one of his gloves with his teeth and pulled. Gross!
Gross! And not good for the teeth!
At least he didn’t use his teeth as a bottle opener!
Spent last night dusting my dressers. Everything was duster than I thought. About to get into the shower since I spent more time cleaning. I think that Epic might be a good fit for today but might decide differently when I get out of the shower.
Enjoy the shiny surfaces 🙂
I’m in DSH Sweet Pine Tar and thanks to Kanuka’s post above, I’m going to tie that one in to smells of David Lynch’s work as painter/artist. (Actually, it brings back good memories of my dad’s small workshop where there were lots of fresh cut wood and turpentine smells.)
Oh, I have a sample of that somewhere I think! Must find.
I visited Seattle a few years ago and did a tour of the Olympic Peninsula. As someone more accustomed to the great Eastern hardwood forests, I found the mountains and conifers beautiful but highly unsettling because the green is so dark. Maybe there’s some deep, ancestral instinct that tells you that an area like this is going to be under 10 feet of snow in the winter — get out while you can!
Testing Enfleurage Amber EDP which is a wonderful natural perfume but very close to the skin. Not unsettling but there are feral undertones and a Lynch-like depth. I’m rewatching Twin Peaks and appreciating how the stage settings, with all their quirky, off-kilter vintage details, contribute to the feeling of a place outside of normal reality.
Interesting, sort of assumed it was not like that in real life but good to know it is … I have never been that far north out west.
I rewatched Twin Peaks in 2017 when they brought out season 3, but gosh that already seems like a lifetime ago!
I went the easy, literal route with Dune. It is a bright spot in a semi-stressful day after a poor night of sleep. At least it’s already Wednesday.
But you smell great! ❤️
Aww, thanks!
You smell great and I hope you get some wonderful, stressless sleep tonight
Thank you, and me too! Luckily my coffee did its job today.
Yuck on the poor sleep and the stressful day! That’s an ugly combo.
Isn’t it?! Happy to report I’m feeling much more awake after coffee and two meals.
Somehow that one slipped my mind. Lol. Its one of my fav movies!
We’ve had a patchy summer, but the last two days have been beautiful, and this morning too. There’s sun and blue sky and not a breath of wind.
I’m wearing Fort and Manle’s Meraki today.
Ah, can’t wait for that weather! Enjoy it while you have it Gaynor 🙂
SOTD ELdO Eau de Protection for no particular reason.
It’s really the best reason 😀
Seconding this!
David Lynch characters could really use some of that!
LOL!
A spritz of Santa Maria Novella Gelsomino for some Lynchesque indoles.
Perfect.
The sun has made a much appreciated appearance here today, and I am feeling more like myself and energized as a result. Too bad that it is supposed to rain again tomorrow. (mope)
SOTD = still hanging out in Royal Pavillon. It leaves a wonderful scent trail when I go walking outside.
Nice! It was pretty cloudy here all day but I bet we get the rain here tomorrow.
Oh, bummer that you didn’t get any rays today.
Glad you saw some sun today! I will join you in rain tomorrow.
Hopefully you will see the sun soon?
I ran some errands today with my sister and needed to wear something under the radar. I went with Carven L’Eau de Toilette. We stopped at goodwill and I found one perfume called Fire. It’s a knock off of Beyoncé Heat. I left it on the shelf. Lol.
Good call on the Goodwill perfume! That’s almost worse than finding nothing at all.
It’s totally worse! Such a letdown.
Does your sister not wear perfume? And probably very wise to leave the goodwill fragrance.
She doesn’t wear it and doesn’t like it if it’s noticeable.
Once when my grand niece didn’t want to hug I was told ” it might be your perfume” lol.
“I left it on the shelf” 😂
Wish that I had done the same when it comes to certain people, events, issues in my lifetime! You’re one smart gal.
So many things and people I should have just turned and walked away.
I’m only perfume smart. Lol.
https://youtu.be/832yjpJqaaU
And here’s a song!
Great song and so appropriate for so many life situations! Thanks! 😊
I’ve left so many on the shelf with no regrets .
Lordy, what a DAY! Still wafting Initio Side Effect because I have not yet been able to shower…
Moby is back to his usual dash lights and it makes me so happy. ☺️ Took 15 minutes and less than $200 to fix the issue which was a failed emissions selinoid that is very common problem with Chevy Vans/trucks. The only issue in 5 years so I am NOT complaining! 👍🏼🚐
Happy Humpday!
Glad it was a relatively easy fix.
Me too! I’ll miss this van when it goes. It’s been an absolute workhorse. 🥲
Yay for that not-too-pricey fix, what a relief!
Truly! ☺️
My brother has grumbled about solenoids many times! He may not be a mechanic anymore, but he knows enough that he can fix his own stuff when something breaks.
Glad that your fix was simple and inexpensive.
Very common in chevy trucks and vans due to the location of the selenoid, because it receives all kicked up dirt/dust from the rear wheels. He showed me the old one and when he tipped it over, half of Arizona came rushing out. 😅 I wish I were as handy as your brother. I like being self sufficient but I’m sadly lacking any kind of basic car/carpentry/machine skills…
Fwiw, he doesn’t miss having to work on cars for a living. At one point, he hated working on his own stuff because of that job.
Commando today since I have covid and can’t smell perfume. If I hold a bottle of eucalyptus essential oil about an inch under my nose I can smell it and Rose Jam Shower Gel at about the same distance so I have hope that I won’t lose my sense of smell. Of course, I keep browsing perfume sites because I’m home and it’s snowing (the combo makes me want to shop). Sigh.
I’m sorry you are sick and hope you don’t totally lose your sense of smell.
Sorry to hear about your loss of smell! But it’s good it’s not completely gone. Fingers crossed it comes back fully very soon.
That’s a shame. Hoping that you won’t completely lose your sense of smell, and that it comes back unimpaired.
I hope you recover soon!
Oh dear! Keeping my fingers crossed…hope you are better soon and that you keep on smelling things 🙂
In Orange Sanguine today as I was in a rush. Maybe I will top with Dune as I often forget about that one. Hope to back to CP compliance tomorrow.
Oh I bet Dune smells great over OS.
Everyone should have some “Grab and Go” perfumes at their disposal.
Could not come up with a Lynch pairing today that I wanted to wear. So I’m in Five O’Clock au Gingembre, very good on this cold day. Our California rains have finally stopped but the temperatures have dropped a bit.
Glad the rain has stopped at least!
