Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Twelfth Night, National Bird Day, George Washington Carver Day and Alvin Ailey’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points in Arielle Shoshana Saturday. (I'm also very behind, but hope to read all of yesterday's comments by the end of today.)
Reminder: on 1/6, wear a fragrance to match Viva Magenta, Pantone's color of the year for 2023. ("Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative. [It] is powerful and empowering. It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m going for cp points in La Fille de Berlin today.
You smell SO very good
I am *definitely* wearing that tomorrow, now that you mention it! Very dark-magenta in colour and in scent. And you smell great today.
Perfect choice! I’m also wearing that tomorrow.
A few drops of Tonka Imperial and several sprays of Shalimar Tonka for a Tonka type day.
I am back to volunteering, my first day back since the beginning of December and I really missed it.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you- I am happy with this Shalimar , but my favorite flanker is still ODV
So glad you’re back at the library!
My pre shower perfume is no 5 and after I take my shower, I have an appointment and will be commando for that. After my appointment, I will wear Lyric. Tomorrow is Lost Cherry.
Lots of excellent choices!
I’m wearing Beetroot today, after reading it on yesterdays comments, and tomorrow the easy out is wearing La Fille de Berlin.
I’m in Gendarme Rage, from their Seven Sinful Scents collection (which I am very surprised to find they’re still making, because my bottle has to be close to twenty years old, and I just assumed this sort of novelty collection was the sort of thing that gets discontinued promptly). It’s not *that* rageful tbh: hefty doses of black and red pepper would have helped. But it’s a nice spicy oriental nonetheless.
Wow, forgot about those and sort of forgot about Gendarme altogether.
I was in a rush earlier this morning, so I went the easy way and grabbed my beautiful magenta bottle of Narciso Rodriguez for Her in Color and sprayed it lavishly. CP compliant! 😀
Happy Thursday! 🌹
Happy Thursday pl67!
That is the perfect bottle color for the cp!
It is! I love the bottle and the scent! Thank you, Lillyjo! 🌹
Happy Almost-Friday to you!
Twins with Robin — picked Saturday for the magenta on the bottle. And I can smell the top notes, which is good. I feel like I’m finally coming out the other side of this virus.
Which is good, seeing as how it seems all of Canada is truly out of cold medicine, even for adults. Ockeghem Teen needed new cough drops yesterday, and there was nothing at our local chain drugstore — no cough drops, no cold medicine. Ugh. So tired of shortages!
When we were in Canada over the holidays I brought all the cold medicine from the states just in case
Good move. I tried to buy what I could find when we were just down in the States. There was a little more than here, at least.
I found cough drops today in North Carolina and the pickings were slim. There was only one kind available and a lot of empty shelf space.
So glad you are feeling better!!
Even the Buckleys is gone? That stuff is appalling, it’s like drinking liquid Vicks Vapor Rub. (shudder)
I’m flying up Saturday and bringing all my cold/flu remedies with me just in case.
I’d have gladly taken Buckley’s, but it is nowhere to be found. A friend highly recommended Buckley’s pills, and there’s nothing. Not even the syrup.
Do bring all you can with you. I don’t know about the East but it is dire in BC.
Maybe I should have stocked up on the Costco-sized bag of cough drops the last time I saw it?
Snow is moving in, so I’m wearing Clair de Musc. Those crackly aldehydes smell so good!
Crackly is a good description for aldehydes. Yesterday I wore No.5 and thought of pop rocks candy. Lol.
Did you ever take a sip of soda when you had a mouthful of Pop Rocks as a kid?
Pbi: no, but wow does that sound fun!
No CP points for me today!
SOTD is Les Indemodables Vanille Havane! So delicious, I can’t get enough of the candied fruit and chocolate opening.
That sounds wonderful!
You smell yummy.
I’m in little dabs of Bandit after skalolazka mentioned it yesterday as a good fit for the CP, and I agree!
You smell great SheriG!
Going for obvious points in Valentino Voce Viva, though the scent is a lot more of a sweet puffball than that awesome magenta.
I have a few samples arriving from Providence Perfumes, so I can’t wait to get home!
You are getting an enabler pin and a big thank you from me today. I got a few samples after you mentioned tuberose perfumes from Rogue. I ended up buying a bottle of Champs Lunaires. I love it!
Oh yay! I’m so glad you love it. I agree—it’s so pretty, and I love that he does small sizes.
Yes, I like those small sizes too. I have a few travel sprays from Zoologist and love them. They are just the right amount for a season.
Thanks again for introducing me to Rogue. I may get the Tuberose and Moss sometime down the road. I enjoyed that one as well.
I am wearing Prada Infusion d’Oeillet today and drinking a cup of Russian Country tea.
Carnations are always right
Rain rain rain. We’ve had 4″ since yesterday and it’s still raining. It’s supposed to rain for the next 10 days at least. Might put an end to our drought, anyway. Power’s out too, glad we have a generator.
SOTD will be TF Amber Absolute, something warm and cozy for this not-warm not-cozy day.
Wow, pixel, that is a lot of rain. Enjoy the generator!!
That is a ton of rain. Thank goodness for your generator!
No fun, but if it helped end the drought, that would be amazing!
Praying for no mudslides…
Stay safe and dry!
In recent favorite, Chanel Coco edp. Never thought I’d be a Chanel fanboy but here I am. This stuff just glows and smells like a magical enchanted forest.
Happy New Year to all!
Coco is so good.
I love Coco in every form . You smell good.
SOTD = Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense
CP-compliant. The juice is a little darker but the box has magenta facets.
It was interesting / fascinating to read the comments regarding my question on 23 and Me to get ancestral info – be careful what you wish for and really, who knows where else your DNA will be used! I will not be utilizing the service.
On a totally different topic … for those who burn candles with wide mouths, do you keep the jars and if you do, how do you clean it well and how do you repurpose? I will have 2 of the B&BW 3-wick candles that will be used up by the end of January at the latest. The side is 3.5 inches tall with a diameter of 4 inches. I kept a nice looking coffee concentrate bottle but the neck is too narrow that I can’t imagine repurposing for anything other than flowers and I don’t usually buy flowers.
I’ve repurposed a candle jar once, for makeup brushes. My cleaning method was…a lot of paper towels?
That’s my cleaning method for everything!
I use wide candle jars for pens, makeup brushes, eyeliner pencils, and travel sprays. Smaller jars each hold q-tips, bobby pins, and tweezers/ nail clippers. (Oh, and the eyeliner pencils that are now too short for the taller jars.).
I find that popping the jar into the freezer and then using a breadknife to pry at the edges of the wax disk pops any leftover wax out easily. Them it’s easy to clean with dish soap. (Safety warning – let the jar cool down before putting it in the freezer!).
I do what Sistine does, reuse them for cosmetic items, or if they’re particularly pretty, I use them for votive candle holders. Freezing to pop out the wax, then when it’s come back to room temperature, pour to overflowing with boiling water, then scrub out with soap.
I’ve never repurposed the jars that candles come in. Most of mine are “nekkid” anyway.
No points for me today as I am wearing No 5 L’eau today. One of my favorites anytime of the year!
I have a few ideas for tomorrow. I won’t wear La Fille de Berlin, but it is certainly a beautiful scent. A lot of you will be smelling gorgeous in it.
Too bad you don’t have the No. 5 L’Eau in the red bottle for tomorrow.
It’s o.k. I am waffling between a few others that I think will work.
I’m taking Mark Rothko as my inspiration, as I think quite a few of his paintings use a red, maroon, pink colour palette. The mood is intimate, peaceful and immersive and I am matching with Plum.
Up in the mist this morning and the garden is shrouded in grey. Incidentally…a way to remember your grey/ gray.
Grey..E for England
Gray…A for America
A bit like whisky/ whiskey
Whiskey with an ‘ e’ made in countries with an ‘e’: Ireland, America
Without an ‘e’ Scotland, Japan etc Countries without an ‘e’
Have fun today!
👍🏼 thanks! Although sometimes I just like to be a renegade and use grey. BTW, I always wanted gray eyes, but instead mine are a hazel-brown.
All these years and now I know the difference! Thank you. I just assumed whichever way I was spelling it was the wrong way. Lol.
I thought the same thing. LOL
I am wearing Guerlain Cherry Oud from a sample. Luckily it is not a love for me, I much prefer black perfecto.
I am still on vacation till next week since we will be celebrating the Armenian Christmas tomorrow.
Merry Christmas tomorrow!
Happy Armenian Christmas! I ordered myself a galette des rois for Sunday after I arrive. Yum!
I loove Galette des Rois!!
Enjoy your Christmas! 🎄🎁
We are on the fringes of the California rain storms so it’s gray and rainy here. I’m wearing Tiger’s Nest today.
You smell great, love Tiger’s Nest.
Am in the non-magenta, but pale pink SL Bas de Soie.
CP points for me today in Diptyque Kyoto. The bottle and packaging all have lovely shades of magenta. I also thought the earthy notes – vetiver and beetroot – would be great for this rainy day.
Oh, what a great choice!
Ohh good choice!! I’ve been curious about Kyoto but I don’t think they make it anymore?
I’m in Fenty today because it was mentioned several times in yesterday’s damage poll.
It is just the most beautiful sunny day here. Anyone who is feeling gloomy and needs some sun is welcome to come sit on the deck with me and my dog. You’ll need a sweater, but not a jacket. (And the ability to tolerate an affectionate German Shepherd.).
yay for sun! I’m looking out the window at swiftly moving white clouds, little bits of blue here and there. There’s a cattle dog at my feet.
I’d love to join you and your German Shepherd. I can bring tea and homemade scones!
Yay for sun! I haven’t seen it in awhile.
sotd = Arielle Shoshana Sunday
Shamelessly tagging along after Robin today.
I’ve got a sample of Saturday, too, but found my travel bottle of Sunday quicker, so it gets some air time.
Who likes AS Friday? That’s the one I haven’t tried.
Another question: is “boundaryless” a new word? Those Pantone folks must be more up to date on corporate jargon than I am.
I had wondered the same thing about boundaryless. My phone keeps rejecting it. Lol.
“Boundaryless” looks like a typo to me. My laptop doesn’t like it either.
Holy Krakatoa, Batman! What a morning! Still raining but not blowing as hard. Good news about the van, bad news about the forest service. See how it all evens out?
In the soothing Shalimar MT today for equilibrium. Good golly Miss Molly, I feel like I’ve been up for 24 hours already! Who’s ready for a nap? 🙋🏻♀️
Yay for good news about the van! I already had a nap at 7am (woke up at 3).
You’re way ahead of me…😴
I’m sorry about the Forest Service.
Aw thanks! Not totally out of the question, but I need medical insurance and they don’t offer any. They did have a few suggestions for me, so I will look into it.
Glad it is not yet totally out of the question.
Yay for good news about Moby, but such a bummer about the Forest Service.
Yep, it all evens out, as Seinfeld pointed out in the clip lillyjo posted. 😄
Joining others in La Fille de Berlin. I love how this one develops. It ends differently than it begins.
Having ear (specifically Eustachian tube) trouble (an ongoing issue for me over the years) and just received tubes in both ears. Better but still feeling odd. Hard to tell exactly where sounds are coming from. It definitely affects my sense of the world. So… I am going for a walk, my standing remedy for all stress, at least as a start.
walking is my meditation. hope your ears are happy soon!
UGH, sorry to hear about the inner ear issues.
You smell lovely! I’m sorry that your ears are giving you trouble and that you’re feeling odd as a result. I hope that your ears adjust to the new tubes and that you feel more like yourself soon❤️
By the time I had confessed to Donatella I had lost the energy to share my sotd but I wore Réminiscence Tonka which always feels right and today it was the turn of Réminiscence Patchouli which is a bit of a monster tenacity-wise but tonight it’s Shalimar parfum de toilette.
Both lovely scents, I have them too.
😃 The single note Réminiscence perfumes are definitely so good and affordable.
Rem Patchouli certainly doesn’t mess around. It’s for serious patch-heads only.
Completely agree, for those who love patch it’s just a delight.
No CP points today, but I’ve got a choice for tomorrow. Today is Aura via the body creme and a topper of Aura Eau Sensuelle. Looking forward to a visit to our favorite Mexican place tonight. Today was half and half sunny and gloomy, and getting colder. I stayed inside and got another bundle ready for the thrift stores. Still not much visible progress but I am more confident about my efforts. Happy Friday Eve!
Just keep plugging away, you will get there eventually!
I had the day off and have mostly been running errands.
I went grocery shopping and saw $5.00 eggs. The eggs that were 18 months ago $1.04. I didn’t buy any.
My sotd is Do Son. I keep thinking about getting one of the limited edition bottles, but it’s taken me 4 years to get through half my travel spray. Maybe once I finish it.
Yay for the day off, but ARGH, those grocery store prices! Last time I checked, eggs were $5.39/dozen at the store I go to.
What stinks is I will go back and buy them tomorrow.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen eggs here below $3, but everything is so expensive now. Cheaper than meat though.
Those LE Do Son bottles are pretty!
Tomorrow if the weather is nice, I will take down the exterior Xmas lights. And Mr. Jalapeno heads back to FL then. His stepmom had her second knee surgery on December 28, and did not have any problems.
Pleased to report that my arm isn’t hurting today. I am still fatigued from my booster shot, though. A little poking around on the Internet shows that fatigue and muscle/joint aches are the most common symptoms of the current dominant COVID variant.
SOTD = still hanging out in Iris Torrefie. I do have some options for Viva Magenta if I decide to play along with the CP tomorrow. I will just see what I feel like wearing then.
Will he be away for 6 weeks again?
Probably at least that long. He was gone for more than 2 months the previous time.
Pain in the arm was my symptom too but I didn’t have the fatigue you experience, sorry to hear you’re going to lose Mr J for another several weeks.
I wasn’t feeling fearless and empowered today, so I didn’t choose this red-leaning energetic magenta as my inspiration but went with Tam Dao. It’s good at times to feel grounded and centered rather than energized.
Today was a self-care day and I went for a haircut, manicure, and a bit of clothes shopping at a 50% off sale at a boutique I love. And then out for a late lunch/early dinner. Today was beautiful and warm but not muggy and the sky was as blue as can be. I met the most charming gigantic dog in a parking lot–a “sheepadoodle” which I had never heard of before. That’s definitely a winning combination and she had the softest fur you can imagine!
Last night I finished watching an Australian show, now viewable via Amazon Prime, called True Colours. It’s only four episodes, and I wish it had been longer. It’s about an Aboriginal woman detective assigned to investigate a murder in her own community group near Alice Springs, where the story involves an art colony and some mayhem and fraud in violation of the community’s mores. I have been to that part of Australia and have collected some Aborigine art, so the story was particularly interesting to me, and as far as I can tell it was well done (and respectful). I recommend it.
Glad that you went for the self care route today in your perfume. It sounds like you needed that.
That dog was a cutie!
Tam Dao is a good grounding scent and True colors sounds like an interesting show!
