Thursday scent of the day 1/5

Posted by Robin on 5 January 2023 118 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Twelfth Night, National Bird Day, George Washington Carver Day and Alvin Ailey’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking points in Arielle Shoshana Saturday. (I'm also very behind, but hope to read all of yesterday's comments by the end of today.)

Reminder: on 1/6, wear a fragrance to match Viva Magenta, Pantone's color of the year for 2023. ("Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative. [It] is powerful and empowering. It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.")

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

A few drops of Tonka Imperial and several sprays of Shalimar Tonka for a Tonka type day.
I am back to volunteering, my first day back since the beginning of December and I really missed it.

I’m in Gendarme Rage, from their Seven Sinful Scents collection (which I am very surprised to find they’re still making, because my bottle has to be close to twenty years old, and I just assumed this sort of novelty collection was the sort of thing that gets discontinued promptly). It’s not *that* rageful tbh: hefty doses of black and red pepper would have helped. But it’s a nice spicy oriental nonetheless.

Twins with Robin — picked Saturday for the magenta on the bottle. And I can smell the top notes, which is good. I feel like I’m finally coming out the other side of this virus.

Which is good, seeing as how it seems all of Canada is truly out of cold medicine, even for adults. Ockeghem Teen needed new cough drops yesterday, and there was nothing at our local chain drugstore — no cough drops, no cold medicine. Ugh. So tired of shortages!

I found cough drops today in North Carolina and the pickings were slim. There was only one kind available and a lot of empty shelf space.

Even the Buckleys is gone? That stuff is appalling, it’s like drinking liquid Vicks Vapor Rub. (shudder)

I’m flying up Saturday and bringing all my cold/flu remedies with me just in case.

I’d have gladly taken Buckley’s, but it is nowhere to be found. A friend highly recommended Buckley’s pills, and there’s nothing. Not even the syrup.

Do bring all you can with you. I don’t know about the East but it is dire in BC.

Rain rain rain. We’ve had 4″ since yesterday and it’s still raining. It’s supposed to rain for the next 10 days at least. Might put an end to our drought, anyway. Power’s out too, glad we have a generator.

SOTD = Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense

CP-compliant. The juice is a little darker but the box has magenta facets.

It was interesting / fascinating to read the comments regarding my question on 23 and Me to get ancestral info – be careful what you wish for and really, who knows where else your DNA will be used! I will not be utilizing the service.

On a totally different topic … for those who burn candles with wide mouths, do you keep the jars and if you do, how do you clean it well and how do you repurpose? I will have 2 of the B&BW 3-wick candles that will be used up by the end of January at the latest. The side is 3.5 inches tall with a diameter of 4 inches. I kept a nice looking coffee concentrate bottle but the neck is too narrow that I can’t imagine repurposing for anything other than flowers and I don’t usually buy flowers.

I use wide candle jars for pens, makeup brushes, eyeliner pencils, and travel sprays. Smaller jars each hold q-tips, bobby pins, and tweezers/ nail clippers. (Oh, and the eyeliner pencils that are now too short for the taller jars.).

I find that popping the jar into the freezer and then using a breadknife to pry at the edges of the wax disk pops any leftover wax out easily. Them it’s easy to clean with dish soap. (Safety warning – let the jar cool down before putting it in the freezer!).

    • cazaubon says:

I do what Sistine does, reuse them for cosmetic items, or if they’re particularly pretty, I use them for votive candle holders. Freezing to pop out the wax, then when it’s come back to room temperature, pour to overflowing with boiling water, then scrub out with soap.

I’m taking Mark Rothko as my inspiration, as I think quite a few of his paintings use a red, maroon, pink colour palette. The mood is intimate, peaceful and immersive and I am matching with Plum.

Yep, it all evens out, as Seinfeld pointed out in the clip lillyjo posted. 😄

Joining others in La Fille de Berlin. I love how this one develops. It ends differently than it begins.

Having ear (specifically Eustachian tube) trouble (an ongoing issue for me over the years) and just received tubes in both ears. Better but still feeling odd. Hard to tell exactly where sounds are coming from. It definitely affects my sense of the world. So… I am going for a walk, my standing remedy for all stress, at least as a start.

You smell lovely! I’m sorry that your ears are giving you trouble and that you’re feeling odd as a result. I hope that your ears adjust to the new tubes and that you feel more like yourself soon❤️

By the time I had confessed to Donatella I had lost the energy to share my sotd but I wore Réminiscence Tonka which always feels right and today it was the turn of Réminiscence Patchouli which is a bit of a monster tenacity-wise but tonight it’s Shalimar parfum de toilette.

😃 The single note Réminiscence perfumes are definitely so good and affordable.

Rem Patchouli certainly doesn’t mess around. It’s for serious patch-heads only.

Completely agree, for those who love patch it’s just a delight.

No CP points today, but I’ve got a choice for tomorrow. Today is Aura via the body creme and a topper of Aura Eau Sensuelle. Looking forward to a visit to our favorite Mexican place tonight. Today was half and half sunny and gloomy, and getting colder. I stayed inside and got another bundle ready for the thrift stores. Still not much visible progress but I am more confident about my efforts. Happy Friday Eve!

I had the day off and have mostly been running errands.
I went grocery shopping and saw $5.00 eggs. The eggs that were 18 months ago $1.04. I didn’t buy any.
My sotd is Do Son. I keep thinking about getting one of the limited edition bottles, but it’s taken me 4 years to get through half my travel spray. Maybe once I finish it.

Yay for the day off, but ARGH, those grocery store prices! Last time I checked, eggs were $5.39/dozen at the store I go to.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen eggs here below $3, but everything is so expensive now. Cheaper than meat though.

Those LE Do Son bottles are pretty!

Tomorrow if the weather is nice, I will take down the exterior Xmas lights. And Mr. Jalapeno heads back to FL then. His stepmom had her second knee surgery on December 28, and did not have any problems.

Pleased to report that my arm isn’t hurting today. I am still fatigued from my booster shot, though. A little poking around on the Internet shows that fatigue and muscle/joint aches are the most common symptoms of the current dominant COVID variant.

SOTD = still hanging out in Iris Torrefie. I do have some options for Viva Magenta if I decide to play along with the CP tomorrow. I will just see what I feel like wearing then.

Pain in the arm was my symptom too but I didn’t have the fatigue you experience, sorry to hear you’re going to lose Mr J for another several weeks.

I wasn’t feeling fearless and empowered today, so I didn’t choose this red-leaning energetic magenta as my inspiration but went with Tam Dao. It’s good at times to feel grounded and centered rather than energized.

Today was a self-care day and I went for a haircut, manicure, and a bit of clothes shopping at a 50% off sale at a boutique I love. And then out for a late lunch/early dinner. Today was beautiful and warm but not muggy and the sky was as blue as can be. I met the most charming gigantic dog in a parking lot–a “sheepadoodle” which I had never heard of before. That’s definitely a winning combination and she had the softest fur you can imagine!

Last night I finished watching an Australian show, now viewable via Amazon Prime, called True Colours. It’s only four episodes, and I wish it had been longer. It’s about an Aboriginal woman detective assigned to investigate a murder in her own community group near Alice Springs, where the story involves an art colony and some mayhem and fraud in violation of the community’s mores. I have been to that part of Australia and have collected some Aborigine art, so the story was particularly interesting to me, and as far as I can tell it was well done (and respectful). I recommend it.
