Tuesday scent of the day 11/22

Posted by Robin on 22 November 2022 109 Comments

It's Tuesday and National Cranberry Relish Day. Birthdays: Abigail Adams, André Gide, Hoagy Carmichael and Billie Jean King. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm running late and may not pick a perfume until this afternoon, but I'm thinking of Fendi Theorema for the Thanksgiving feel. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Tsarevna.

Reminder: on 11/25, pick your Black Friday poison...wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive. (We've done this project several times.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Alma de Lisboa Porcelain Teapot by Vista Alegre ("A collection of a cultural nature, based on traditional icons of the city of Lisbon. A decoration for Lisbon lovers, tourists and all those who appreciate the picturesque representation of the culture and the best that the cities have to offer") is $185 at Alchemy Fine Home.

I think I’m the first poster again-two days in a row! I went with Cuir de Russie parfum again. It’s dark and cold and sleeting out, and I need something beautiful with a backbone. Anytime I wear Le Lion the drydown really reminds me of Cuir de Russie, too.

Hope evryone’s day is going as well as possible, and I look forward to reading what people are wearing, cooking, or thinking about buying for Black Friday. Lots of interesting sales, I’m sure 🙂

Needed backbone today too, so put on Cristalle. Now thinking I needed a snuggly-blanket scent instead…

I’m taking CP points in Fille en Aiguilles. The only bottle available on ebay is $595, so it fits the CP. I wish I had bought a bottle before it was discontinued. I love it.

I was looking Fille en Aiguilles up earlier this month and was surprised to see how quickly they move on the secondhand market — I suppose it is the season for resinous pine!

Mr. G has been exploring my perfume collection lately (with my help/indulgence) and he has found a couple of go-tos, but last night he asked to try something new. I pulled out Azemour and Ormond Elixir, and we talked about bergamot, vetiver and oud as perfumery notes before he ultimately chose to try Elixir (mostly because it doesn’t work on me and he’s trying not to make too big an impact on my favorites). He loved it! And I’m in Azemour this morning, of course.

No, not Penhaligons — Ormonde Jayne. I think it’s sort of an extrait version of Ormonde Man. Very oud-y. But beautiful.

Two! The travel spray of L’Air du Desert Moroccain that makes me sneeze is now his, and the little sample spray of the Ormonde Elixir that an extremely kind NSTer sent is also now his because it’s too oud-y on me. He also really likes Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur and IA Memoirs of a Trespasser, in case any of you need gifting suggestions for the male(s) in your life. 🙂

I almost never blind buy full bottles, but I made an exception for Malay Perfumery’s Fleur de Rampai and Kesidang. Internationaal shipping for samples were expensive enough that I decided heck with it and just got the full bottles.

I have them both on right now — Kesidang is a soliflore of Vallaris glabra, a uniquely fragrant flower I grew up with in Southeast Asia. It is also known as breadflower, for its slightly bready scent. It’s hard for me to describe the scent… perhaps like a light, non-indolic jasmine with the combination of dried, sweet grass? Such an amazing flower, wish it was used in perfumery more.

Fleur de Rampai is about pandan, jasmine and patchouli, and not what I expected. Reviews compare it to pandan and coconut desserts/rice, but what I get foremost is something fruity — it is not the type of jasmine I am used to, perhaps a different type of distillation? It has a bit of an old-school perfume oil vibe to it. Pandan appears above the skin, I smell it most in the air — it disappears when I sniff my wrist too closely. Altogether a very unique scent.

Commando for now. My sweater smells like Shalimar, but I’m not sure it’s a Shalimar kind of day for me. I am eyeing my bottle of Roísín Dubh, which I guess does count for the CP because I’m pretty sure it’s the last full bottle I purchased. It is also quickly becoming my go-to comfort scent. We shall see.

This afternoon, I’ll be running Thanksgiving-related errands, and then will probably make both cranberry sauce and piecrust, for pies to be baked tomorrow.

Neroli Outrenoir, which I’ll never buy. Someone’s selling a tester of the previous packaging for $420 😯

Side question: Does a repackaging always mean a reformulation? Is there a database of reliable information somewhere with brand packaging histories? I’m guessing not…

You need to compare the formula codes, and even then it’s not certain the smell is changed because sometimes it’s just a change in non-scent ingredients (like UV filters). In my opinion, the new NO smells the same as my previous bottle.

Good morning to all! It’s a very grey rainy day here, no chance of it warming up at all. My contract ends soon and I submitted for my next position at a critical access hospital way out in the boonies. I can’t wait to get away from the traffic, the noise, the smell, and the never ending crowds of people. They are reviewing my packet, asking questions, and I hope they offer because I desperately need some peace and quiet and T-Rex needs quality off leash time. The pay is a lot less, but at this point I could care less. It would mean I get zero break between contracts, which is not ideal, but it would be worth it. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

I’m wearing Angel’s Share from my cute travel spray and loving it. This was a very successful blind buy for me, at very low risk so I’m thrilled with it (had a Sephora coupon)! It’s 8 or 10ml I think and the perfect size. Like just about everyone here, I really wish we has this option with ALL perfumes.

Stay safe and stay warm, fragrant folks!

I should try Angel’s Share. I’ve thought about it as a blind buy.

Yeah, it was a crap day, weather-wise, up the coast too. Fortunately I never have to deal with traffic, but I know the disaster Seattle can be, as I used to drive to Tacoma on Mondays and back up here on Thursdays, and going that direction, no matter what hour, there is just no way you won’t hit traffic.

Smaller places in state can be a good respite. I hope you and T-Rex both get some time to breathe, while still working.

We’re getting into the longer summer days now, with sunset around 9pm and last night I was in bed listening to the birds settling down for the night and how late they kept singing. The blackbirds continued after 930pm and the tui until it was very gloomy, around 10pm. The tui also wake first, around 430am, a good hour before sunrise. This is the time of year that I seem to live ‘bird hours’ and I find it very peaceful. Starting and ending the day listening to bird calls, watching the light slowly change, the colours in the garden light up or dim. Wearing Viola today. Got to do some making so I need my brain working.

Going to douse myself in Shalimar Tonka shortly.

Now that the dust has somewhat settled and people have tried it…I am curious for opinions on if you liked it or not please.

I was not wowed with the first wearing but then something clicked and I really love it now. I get smooth, powdery leather in the opening w/ citrus and then lots of tonka and vanilla in the drydown…kind of a chocolatety patchouli going on for my nose as it lingers too. I really love MVP as well but have not done a side by side comparison yet.

Also I have had acupuncture for 6 weeks in a row and my neck and shoulder pain is much improved. I also feel less stressed and anxious. I definitely feel better on multiple fronts and would recommend if you haven’t tried it or are on the fence…this is my first time having it.👍🏻

I think MVP is much more flirtatious and less serious than MT. I definitely get the leather in dry-down of MT, which strikes me as a much more subdued and “adult” than MVP. If MVP was a painting, it would be a water color and MT would be oil. I haven’t had much time with it yet, but I do like it a lot. While definitely having OG Shalimar echoes, it’s different than either that one or the MVP, so I’m making the argument that all three are worth having…😬

No fragrance today. I started not feeling well Sunday night (and I will say it was weird, like one minute feeling fine and the next not feeling well) and have felt worse and worse, so I just did a home COVID test: positive. I’m so bummed about being sick and ruining our Thanksgiving plans and feeling awful.

BUT, I will say I am also so thankful to have a warm house to lie in bed in, and Mr. SP to take care of me (from a distance). Also, I could still smell my Bois des Iles decant this morning when I sniffed it, so yay for that. Anyway, back to my Kindle for now. Carry on!

Ask for the treatment that reduces the symptoms, if you have any excuse-age, weight, at risk family members, wage earner, etc. It will reduce how long you are sick and also reduce your chances of having long COVID, I think.

I love the tea set. I will say, however, that Lisbon is not so green as the trees I’ve seen look all dried out, perhaps because the times I’ve been there happened to be December? That said, I would have represented Lisbon with tiles.

Also, is pink the new Christmas red? I’ve begun to see more of the decors in pink … I just hope there’s no explosion of pink just like I am almost sick of gnomes …

We have been getting the pink decor in this year. It really is an odd color.
Is you sotd new? I don’t recall hearing about it.

I wonder if the Pantone color of the year will be in that family?

I got a partial bottle of Luxe Calme Volupte from a basenotes splitter. I have worn this 2-3x since I got it. I haven’t been on basenotes for a while for no discernible reason.

So I do like pink, but I really don’t like any of those items.

    Hello all!

Wearing a little splash of DK Fuel for Men from a travel spray I find recently. I rather like it, even if it does have a bit of a hairgel vibe. It’s rather resinous and dark. I like it better than Unleaded so far.

    Have a great day everyone!

      Hope your day was great!

I’m in Heretic’s Smudge today. I guess I’m still in my “grounding scents” phase.

Another sunny day here. Temps got to around 50 degrees F. The cats are still hanging out on the heat vents when the evening program kicks on. 😺😺

Yesterday was my brother’s first day at his new job. He has about a week of safety training ahead before he can start doing any work. It’s going to be rather interesting for a while, lol.

SOTD = back in Eau Provocateur EdT.

He will have brief stretches of time outside, but not 13 hours like his previous job.

He will have to get some specialized PPO for his job, though.

    Hi everyone!
Last Monday I was impulsive and ordered something from fragrance net. It has been stuck in Georgia since last Thursday. I have called FedEx 3 times and keep getting the run around that they need to print a new label and it’s not lost or stolen. I was supposed to get a call back from the manager today but so far no call. I tried calling the local Georgia FedEx and cannot get a real person. I have never had this experience before and am a little distraught. Any suggestions?
My sotd is White Musk Smoky Rose. A cheap thrill as I only paid 4 dollars for it about 5 years ago. This is one that I wear when I don’t know what to wear.

I have not had this experience and I can’t even tell you the shortest or the longest time I’ve had to wait. That said, I assume you used your credit card and so if it doesn’t arrive by the time it is a few weeks (2-3) since you ordered, I suggest disputing the charge with your credit card company.

I haven’t had anything like that happen with Fragrance Net. There’s no rhyme or reason when I get packages anymore, except for Chewy.com. I can count on their stuff to arrive when they say it will.

I will second hajusuuri’s advice about getting in touch with your credit card company if your package doesn’t show up in another week or so.

I think things are a little crazy right now with the Buffalo snow affecting various trucks which has a trickle down effect. I bet you will still get it, but late. Sorry about the frustration.

I bought a bottle recently that was delayed, too. It eventually came, intact. Also, I think sometimes packages don’t get scanned as they travel through the system, so sometimes it looks like they’re still across the country, then bingo! They get scanned the best day at their arrival destination. Keep the faith!

I had a similar situation with Fragrance net and they were very good about cancelling the original order and refunding my money. Then, a few weeks later, out of the blue, the bottle arrived:)

I’m insanely late today, but SOTD is Lush Turmeric Latte. I claim 2x CP points because it is both the last perfume I bought (in the small bottle), but the FB costs more than I would ever spend on something fairly linear.

That said, it is comforting. And I need comfort this week, as I mentally sort the aftermath of last week both personally and professionally.

Oh, that sounds like a very rough week! I don’t get lush’s pricing. I think their scents are way overpriced, but maybe that’s because none of them have floated my boat..? I hope the TL helped ease the struggle you’re going through.

I wore Mohur Extrait today, from the second batch in the two tone bottle. I liked the round red first bottle better, and the juice in this new bottle doesn’t have quite the same oomph! As the first bottle did, it seems to me. This is pretty and smells the same, just not so much, if you know what I mean. It is odd. Not enough to send back and complain about, but I feel no need to get a backup bottle of this.
