It's Monday, World Hello Day and World Television Day. Birthdays: Voltaire, René Magritte, Coleman Hawkins, Elizabeth George Speare, Marilyn French. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m in vintage Robert Piguet Fracas for a day of menial chores and pre-Thanksgiving grocery shopping.
Reminder: on 11/25, pick your Black Friday poison...wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive. (We've done this project several times.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

First day of snow here, and while there’s not much it’s the fine powdery kind, so any breath of wind and you cannot see anything, so it’s Cuir de Russie parfum for the win! It smells so good in the cold air. Hope everyone has a decent day, and I’ll look forward to reading what everyone is wearing.
Sincerely,
Carole
You smell wonderful!
I think I will copy your sotd.
Thematic!
Lovely choice! Maybe I’ll bribe myself to go out and walk by promising a dab of Cuir de Russie when I return. (It’s sunny here, and warmer than yesterday, but the wind remains unappealing.)
You smell great, i made a layering experiment today with cuir de Russie and Kerbside Violet after falling in love with Hermes Violet Volynka, the jury is still out. I think i much prefer Cuir de Russie by itself.
Cuir de Russia was made for the snow. You smell warm and lovely!
I’m in Le Labo Musc 25, which does work for the cp. This is the second sample of this one I’ve gone through, and although it’s nice, I doubt I’d ever buy a bottle with those prices.
I had a very productive day yesterday. I got our turkey and gravy cooked, sliced it, put it in the crockpot, and put it in the freezer. I did this last year and it worked so well. It’ll heat up all day on Thursday while I cook everything else. Half the battle of thanksgiving, for me, is timing everything so it’s all done and hot! at the same time. Usually the turkey gets cold by the time we get it all sliced. Problem solved.
I also started to tackle the “storage” room in the basement. Yikes. Took a trunkful to goodwill and another big load filled our garbage bin. Just getting started but I can see the small progress already. I love cleaning out and organizing.
Mtg, you’re a genius! I might try your make ahead trick this week. I can also see how that would work with weekend cooking…roast a chicken, pick the meat off and put it in foil and slow cook/thaw it later in the week. Thank you for this tip! 🤗
You inspired me to get back to my own never ending basement clean out today. I have to stop being so sentimental!
I have the smallest bottle of musc 25. It’s a great scent, but I doubt I’ll replace it when I finish because of the aforementioned price issue.
I organized my junk drawer in the kitchen – organizing must be in the air!
Oh my goodness, and now you’re so far ahead for Thursday! Good for you.
I’m taking cheap thrill CP points in Cabaret.
Great choice! I’ve always loved that bottle.
I was looking at it today, and marveling that for a cheap thrill, the bottle is excellent It’s cap is heavy metal, and while I can’t tell if the bottle is plastic or glass, it feels good in the hand.
Wearing Jasmin Noir today.
Hope it was a good day Desirae!
SOTD is an oldie, but goody-Balenciaga Paris.
Yep, you smell great Kris. (Or you did, I am late!)
I’m wearing Hypnotic Poison today, and I made an executive decision to not shower until I am done running errands. Are you guys in the rest of the US having a problem with a pharmacist shortage? The pharmacy that I use for my mother is only open M-F now, and only from 10-5. And I just switched from a different pharmacy that closed completely!
Ha! Shower comment is because I’m switching perfumes to something less sweet afterwards.
My pharmacy was having a tough time and cut hours. They have only recently gone back to regular hours.
Have you dug out, lillyjo? Looked like a snow globe in your neck of the woods!
Yes thank goodness. The temperature got up to 40 today and we had a good bit of sunshine so the snow is off the main roads. I think it will remain on the grass probably until spring though. My final total was just under 24 inches!
Wow! That’s a SERIOUS snow event!
Wow! That’s a lot, nice to see normal temperatures come back.
😱🥶 Thank goodness the roads are clear now. We haven’t been hit yet, but I’m just waiting. 🫣
The pharmacy at Wegmans closed early yesterday. I happened to pass by before 4pm and was surprised!
My regular pharmacy is mostly keeping its customary hours, but they are now closing for a lunch period … and they’ve installed some serious bars and barriers for when they’re closed/at lunch. Must’ve had some break-ins or theft or something.
My pharmacy is the same way.
A lot of the pharmacies here are closed on Sundays, and have been for years (pre-pandemic). A new development is that they are shut down between 1:30 and 2pm on the days that they are open. Similar to what SheriG mentioned.
Picked up a couple of samples of TF Rose Prick, and going in a test run. Twenty minutes in, it seems to be channeling the almondy Joop! Not boring in any case, but the jury is not back yet.
I still have not tried that one…so far behind on Tom Ford.
Trying to thunk my decant of L’ete en be Douche that I’ve had forever, but I’ll need to reapply later to finish it off so we’ll see. It tends to hang around all day on me so I’m not sure I’ll need a refresh.
Heading to REI after work with a friend to try and get a few things on the last day of their sale. I really need some kind of light for my body or head and an ear warmer band, both of which will help me with my dark and cold winter evening walk.
Yes – headlamp. They are the best. We use them camping as well as walking in the neighborhood when it’s dark or even working on something that requires direct light/hands free. Got mine at REI, too.
Oh, I’m tempted. The complex isn’t as well lit as it could or should be, and I’ve thought about getting a headlamp. Might also be good for when the power goes out.
Turns out my friend has one she didn’t use, so I’ll take hers off her hands soon. 😀
I have a rechargeable headlamp from REI that I use every morning when I walk the dog. It’s also come in very handy during hurricane blackouts. I think the brand is Black Diamond.
Thanks for the recommendation! My friend has a headlamp she doesn’t use that she’s giving to me, but I’ll keep that in mind if I need one again.
Oh my, I’m back reading everyone’s comments this morning and just saw what my phone’s autocorrect did to L’Ete en Douce! 😂
I’m wearing Onda Voile this cold and cloudy morning. Nothing pressing on the agenda, I’ll just let the day unfold.
How nice!!! Yesterday and today I was swamped with to-do-list items.
So excited for everyone getting ready for the upcoming holiday. I hope you all come back the next week and share some good stories! 😉
I will be working Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which is fine by me. Back in the day, hospitals used to let employees have a free holiday meal on the big day, some of which were absolutely delish. Not anymore. Nope, now you can’t even get a napkin from the cafeteria because everything is shut down and locked up.
I’m wearing a true beauty today, courtesy of the splitmeet- Guerlain Bois D’Arménie. Another full bottle goes on the List of Longings…Someone please Stop Me! 😆
I will be avoiding all grocery stores this week, have already filled up on gas so as to avoid long lines and jacked prices. We will be low key and flying under the radar all week. I’ll have something special for the Baby T-Rex, which she will gulp down, untasted. 🙄
Tonight’s big line up is dinner and a movie. Annually (and sometimes more often) I watch Home for the Holiday’s with its wonderful cast (Holly Hunter, Robert Downey, Jr., Anne Bancroft, Charles Durning, Steve Guttenburg, Geraldine Chaplin, Clare Danes and Dylan McDermott) all directed by Jodie Foster in a very close representation of my family holiday get togethers back in the day. Fights, tears, flying food, all underpinned by genuine love because otherwise, how could you stand it?! 😆
Hope everyone has a great week highlighted by wonderful food, good company, laughter, and all the animals get extra love and pets, plus a few scraps from the people table!
Ooh, that sounds like a great movie. What’s the surprise for T-Rex?
It’s a very bittersweet movie, and I absolutely love it. Every time I see it, I’m thankful RDJ is still with us as this was made at the height of his addiction struggles. You can see it in eyes throughout the movie. T-Rex will be getting a DEEluxe turkey and egg scramble with a bit of cheese melted on top. She’ll wolf it down and then give me a look that says “That’s ALL?!” 😀
I have never seen Home for the Holidays!
I hope you get something decent to eat on Thanksgiving, Deva.
Muse de Rochas and a cup of Assam tea
Sounds right!
Hello all!
I’m in the 2005 Pierre Bourdon lost classic Ferre. You know, the one that smells like Iris Poudre. It doesn’t lean quite as heavy on the iris but for $40 that’s a concession I can make. Especially since Iris Poudre is not my preferred iris!
Have a great day everyone!
I LOVE Ferre-have one bottle left. You smell great! and I bought mine cause it was 13$ atWinners 🙂 So we can smell great on a budget 🙂
Wearing no 5 edp while looking at some finances. Seeing where I can make cuts in gifts.
Good luck, Dawn.
22 degrees and 5 inches of snow, settled and plowed but still more like mid-January that before Thanksgiving here, this morning when I left the house. SOTD = Killian Amber Oud to keep me warm today. Public Service Announcement, DSH is having 20% off sale 11/22 until, I don’t remember, some later date, code which can be shared is holly20.
Personal announcement, after much dithering, I have put in my notice of retirement. Last day will be January 13, 2023. I can hardly wait to be able to do what I want to do, on my time line, for a while….
Congratulations on your upcoming freedom! I hope your “me time” is everything you hope for.
Yay, join the retired club!
Congratulations on your retirement!
Congrats on your retirement, meridifay! 🎉
Welcome to the retiree group😊 I hope you love it as much as I do. More time to try out perfumes! Congratulations 🎉
Congratulations on submitting your notice! I bet it will be a relief to not have to ponder that decision any longer.
Congratulations!
Big congratulations! 🎈✨🎊
Congratulations!
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement, meredifay! I bet you won’t regret it. 😉
Congratulations on retirement! The DSH coupon expires Jan 9.
Yay!! Good for you.
SOTD = Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche
Love it 🥰!

This week I am working through tomorrow and will be back in the office a week from tomorrow. I already bought my 2 bottles of wine yesterday for ~ $27, not bad for 2 highly-rated wine (by Wine Spectator and not Wegmans). I was originally going to leave them both in the car but decided to bring them in because it’s cold outside … although wine does not get frozen, does it? 🤔
I may get inspired to do some tidying up (code for massive cleaning). I will need to plan it out. Lost my clear out mojo but have been inspired by talk above!
I received the package of 105 5mL glass atomizers. They look good! I rehomed them into 2 gallon size bags and inside the corrugated box containers that used to house the atomizers.
Wine will freeze at temperatures below 20F. My friend learned this the hard way after leaving wine in her trunk – it exploded.
Yikes. I’m glad I brought them inside! It’s supposed to get to a low of 23F but I’ll probably be the one whose wine bottle explodes when it gets down to 30. Thanks for the info!
I accidentally semi froze a partial bottle of champagne one year by leaving it on a deck in single digit weather in Colorado for a few hours. It was champagne slush, and had lost all of its carbonation.
Champagne without the bubbles is sad.
I agree with the Champagne comment!
I’ve chosen a recent buy today, Robert Piguet’s Chaldee from the Heritage collection. It doesn’t quite count as a cheap thrill, but I bought it in New Zealand, so not paying international postage made it cheaper than most.
I love this scent in the summer. I even like its bottle. You smell great!
The Heritage Collection bottles are some of the nicest ones I have. They feel great in the hand, and the sprayer is top notch. Very luxe.
Feeling some Monday blues, but I smell good with Nishane Tempfluo.
So sorry for the Monday blues!
Monday’s almost over here, hope Tuesday is better for you Lucasai!
You smell wonderful and I hope that Tuesday is a better day🌸
P.S. I meant to tell you yesterday how fabulous you smelled in Oud Infini!
Started with cheap thrill Coralina by Oscar de la Renta. This was from the “Essential Luxuries”, one of those multi-scent collections that probably lasted a few months and was then discontinued because THERE ARE TOO MANY NEW PERFUME RELEASES EACH YEAR LOL!
Rant over 🙂
Not enjoying this one, so switching to Ivoire after my shower.
Yep, already forgot about that set!
Wearing a couple of dabs of RD Diaghilev today, from a sample that a very generous NSTer sent in a swap. I love this one without measure, but I would never, ever, ever spend that much money on one bottle of perfume!
We will be guests at a friend’s this Thanksgiving, and I’m bringing pies and my traditional green beans. It’s a Bon Appetit recipe from several years ago, and I never get tired of it. In case anyone is interested:

Today will be making pie crusts, shopping tomorrow.
Robin, I had to laugh at your “menial chores.” Maybe because I’ve been re-reading the Cadfael mysteries lately, but that phrase makes me think of slaves, lol! Heaven forbid that it should come to mind while I’m cleaning the bathroom! 😅
Loved that mystery series! Read it moons ago and never tired of it. Each addition was unique with familiar and new characters that were incredibly realistic. If you like her writing, you should check out “The Brothers if Gwynedd” which is a quartet of books (published and sold in 4 separate books in the UK back in the day, but now available in a very thick quartet here in the US) that follows the rise and fall of Llewelyn, Prince of Wales, whose vision of a unified and independent Wales came this close 👌🏼 to fruition. Edith Pargeter was such a fabulous writer in every way. One of my top 10 writers.
I loved the Brother Cadfael mysteries! My mom owns all of them, and I always try to read at least one when I visit Canada.
Adding those to my list of books to read!
Oh wow, I had no idea that Ellis Peters was just a pen name. 🥸
I am adding the other books to my list! Thanks, Deva!
She also wrote the Inspector Felse series, I think under her pen name. 13 books in that series which takes place in England after WWII. I haven’t read those but they’re on my audible list.
That recipe green beans sounds delicious! My sister loves the more traditional green beans with béchamel and fried onions, so I always make that for Thanksgiving, but the next time I get fresh green beans from the farmstand, I’m trying your recipe!
I hope you like it. It’s easy to do most of it ahead of time, and then just a quick sauté on the stove to heat it up.
I’m learning so much tonight; it never dawned on me that our American dish with the canned stuff was based on an actual classic, child of the “convenience food” age that I am. 🙄
It wasn’t quite so bad as that, admittedly!!
Commando, though considering Cuir de Russie, thanks to carole.
I worked this morning, and have taken a long lunch break to do some household tidying. Have to do some more reading, then call it a day. My institution holds classes today and tomorrow, so Mr. Skal is teaching. We won’t get into the swing of holiday prep until tomorrow afternoon, but (as I mentioned last week), we will have a small dinner with just the two of us.
Didn’t make my pie crusts over the weekend, but did make a good loaf of Irish-style whole grain brown bread. The recipe is MUCH easier than the one I’d previously used, and I like it better. I need to work on the baking time, but will make this one again.
https://www.davidlebovitz.com/ballymaloe-irish-brown-bread-recipe/
Hooray for finding a recipe that is both better and easier! I love it when that happens.
Oh, that bread looks so good!
It IS good, and since we lack true whole-grain options at our grocery store, it’s great for us. I’ll probably make a loaf or two a week (the second loaf to freeze) for the foreseeable future.
Smoothie is apple, pear 🍐 and yogurt.
My old love Must de Cartier as sotd and tonight it’s Réminiscence Dragée which has a very good balance of citrus and almond.
Lagerfeld cologne today from a little dabber bottle. Lovely amber, very snuggly. 😊
I’m in DedCool’s Taunt today. Did my last minute grocery shopping – apparently there’s an elbow macaroni shortage in this city. I did not expect that to be the hardest item on my grocery list to obtain!
The pasta shelves at my main grocery store has been picked over for awhile now.
Oddly enough, ramen has been scarce in my area for a while now.
No heavy cream in my store tonight! But they had all the pasta.
SOTD: Seattle Chocolate.
For those of us that have missed this weekend’s post, our very sweet perfumelover67 lost her beloved Yei. Please read her special post and pray for her and Yei.
She is a bright light here and we need to give that love back. 💔
My heart really goes out to her right now.
Bright and sunny here, and the weather improved from COLD to merely chilly. I still stayed inside for most of the day and did a load of laundry.
SOTD = back in Eau Provocateur EdT.
You smell great!
Space heaters and blankets, here. I have to step outside for a second and I’m not looking forward to it!
I have my heavy wool socks out now!
Stay warm.
I spent all day Saturday outside and was so cold when I got home that I haven’t ventured back out in the past 48 hours!
Saturday was bad, and yesterday was REALLY bad. I waited until today to take out garbage.
I hope it warms up for you.
We were laundry twins again.
It is warming up to near “normal” temps here by the end of the week.
What passes for COLD here might make people in the Midwest point and laugh. If it gets in the teens and 20’s, it’s considered really bad. Never mind single digits!
I ended up doing 3 loads of laundry!
I might have one more load to do this week before Mr. Jalapeno gets home.
Sampling Steely Violet Rage from Soivohle which is much prettier than its name.
I do kinda like the name though.
Sampling Nobile 1942’s Malvs today. This is is not my style but I appreciate how well put together it is. I have no doubt this is someone’s perfect soft, powdery amber.
Tea today (and all this past weekend) was Fortnum & Mason’s Christmas Black. The cold snap has shifted me in to holiday mode.
I have a mint-based tea in my rotation now for the holidays.
Ooh, do tell!
It’s a limited edition holiday tea from The Republic of Tea. The name is “Stress Less Winter Mint”, and it contains peppermint, lemon peel, lemon extract, spearmint, lemon balm, and wintergreen flavor.
I got it just the other day, so it is very new to me.
Mmm, lemon-mint heaven!
I copied Carole today in Cuir de Russie. I also copied Madtowngirl and managed to get 1 bag of garbage and a small box of donations out of my basement.
I found an old clothe doll of my mom’s in poor condition. I texted my sister about it and we decided to donate it. 15 minutes later I came across a picture of my mom holding the doll when it was new. It felt like a sign so it’s back living in the basement of lost time. Sigh… and lol.
I just threw out two large bins of photos and am contemplating throwing out more. I never look at them and feel like my memories are in my head, but then I wonder if I will regret later. Probably not though, since they’ve been in bins for 20+ years.
I love reading everyone’s holiday plans🥂
Sotd was Rogue Perfumery Jasmin Antique and a little spritz of Lust tonight….getting ready to wear more out of office appropriate fragrances when my Thanksgiving break starts on Wednesday😁
