Happy Indie / Nouveau Niche Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance from an indie / niche brand. Extra points if it was launched after the last time we did this project in 2019. Hat tip to hajusuuri for the idea!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Mimosa Gold by Exaltatum. As near as I can tell, it was released at the end of 2019, after we'd last done this project in August.
Reminder: on 10/21, for Ursula LeGuin's birthday, choose a work of speculative fiction or a character from such a work, and wear the fragrance that you think fits. Your chosen work can be written, audio or visual. Bonus points if you choose a work of LeGuin's or one of the shortlisted works for the inaugural Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Sampling Histria today from Wesker which looks like it was founded in 2020 so I’m good for the project today
I hadn’t even heard of this brand! And those bottles are fanCY!🤩
Had to go look — those bottles are gorgeous!
Sometimes, I just browse the new listings on luckyscent and order samples of things that sound interesting.
Those bottles from Wesker are seriously beautiful!!
How is your rental car driving going? I hope you are having fun.
How do you like Histria? (That bottle is a lemming all on its own.)
It’s pretty nice– it starts off sort of cool but has a warmer base. Excellent longetivity
I’m in Francesca Bianchi Unspoken Musk from a sample. Just released this year, so I’m good for the cp.👍 Doesn’t smell much like musk to me though, more like a sweet vanilla. Just a bit too sweet for me.
I’m off work today and no school for my teenager, which meant no alarm clock today! I slept for about an hour longer than usual and it felt so good. Bright blue skies and sun this morning, but it’s pretty chilly. Temps in the 30’s. I finally had to dig out my down parka for my walk to get a latte. This weather has me craving fall comfort food. I’m thinking chicken pot pie sometime this weekend. Maybe homemade, maybe not. lol. What are your favorite fall comfort meals?
I like to make a mushroom bourguignon with different types of mushrooms and serve it over penne pasta.
I’ve never made a bourguignon, but I was just looking at the Julia child recipe for it and it sounds delicious. I’d have to make ours with beef as mushrooms are a no-go in our house.😉
Beef is a no go, so mushrooms it is for us!
🤣👍
That sounds delish — I’m a sucker for pasta dishes.
Chili! Today I’m making turkey and sweet potato chili. Also, anything with roasted beets, squash or a combo.
Soup is winter food, but chili is autumn all the way.
Yum! That sounds delicious. Can the recipe be found online? I love sweet potato anything.
Great minds think alike! I just made chili on Monday, despite the fact that our temps got to 70 that day. Fall in the Midwest is so unpredictable.
Here it is. It’s a recipe from Gwyneth Paltrow’s second cookbook. (I have thoughts about the goop empire, but it’s a great cookbook.)
https://sheshungry.wordpress.com/2013/08/07/gwyneth-paltrow-recipes-sweet-potato-and-black-bean-chili/
Thanks sistine! This looks good, I will save it to my notes.👍
Favorite fall comfort food: lentil and vegetable soup; butternut squash soup; beef bourguignon, pot roast, coq au vin.
I really need to try and make a bourguignon. I love pot roast too, my favorite is the “Mississippi” pot roast. Have you ever made it? Mmm, it’s so good.
I have not made the Mississippi pot roast but I will look it up.
Meanwhile, here is the recipe I use for the beef bourguignon.
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/beef-bourguignon-recipe-1942045
Thanks! Saved the recipe to notes!👍
I had never heard of that pot roast…
Omg, it’s the only way I make pot roast now. If you google the recipe, it usually calls for an entire stick of butter😳but I make mine with half and it’s still plenty rich. I love the flavor the peppers give it.
My first coq au vin I ever had was on a trip to France when I was 16. I have tried it myself a lot of times, never could replicate. But maybe it has been so long I won’t be able to make a good comparison.
My cool weather comfort food is white bean chicken chili. I also like black bean soup with hot chili oil topping. Gotta have my spice.
I like Unspoken Musk, ‘cause I like sweet. 🙂
Yay for sleeping in and waking to blue skies! I vote for chicken pot pie.
Yes, good sleep and blue skies make everything better!🌞
So glad you were able to sleep! My fall comfort foods involve chili and college football on Saturday’s, or my husband’s chicken and sausage gumbo.
Mmm, that sounds good. For game day, I love some spicy wings dipped in ranch.😋
I want to make shepherd’s pie (with ground beef, though). Am perusing recipes.
As I was drizzling icing on fruit turnovers yesterday, I thought about wanting to make meat pies.
Last night I had some meatballs with tomato sauce and roasted cherry tomatoes over polenta. Polenta has become a fall favorite for me.
I have never tried polenta! But I will have to give it a try.
I also love shepherd’s pie and had a real craving for it a couple of years ago and discovered this recipe which has become a staple in the cold months:
https://www.paleorunningmomma.com/paleo-shepherds-pie-whole30-dairy-free/
Sometimes I cheat and use Bob evans mashed potatoes on the top. lol
If you want to make a cheater’s polenta, you can stir some medium or fine cornmeal slowly into a pot of simmering milk and/or meat broth (3-4x as much liquid as cornmeal by volume). It really takes just a few minutes for the cornmeal to hydrate and turn properly creamy. Chuck in a cube of butter and add parmesan to make it extra rich. It’s seriously the easiest possible starch base for a meal, and cornmeal is so versatile that we always have some in our pantry. I’m pretty sure an Italian would not like to call this polenta, but it’s just so dang tasty and easy.
That sounds seriously delicious!
That’s what I do most of the time. Butter, Parmesan or some other cheese…brie works well…makes it seriously cozy and delicious. And very easy. It pairs great with bolognese.
In the UK, Shepherd’s Pie made with beef is Cottage Pie. Which is probably a very idealised view of what folk living in cottages could afford 😀
This is my fall comfort meal:
https://smittenkitchen.com/2012/09/baked-orzo-with-eggplant-and-mozzarella/
It’s good hot, and also at room temperature.
Looks hearty!
Fall comfort foods: chili, meatloaf, and throwing “stuff” in the crockpot.
Yep, we are on the same wavelength Jalapeno, I’ve made all of those things in the last couple of weeks.👍😋
Favorite fall comfort meals? Most definitely, soup! All kinds, don’t have one particular favorite but it’s always Soup Mondays at my house, beginning in mid-September until May. This week I made a Gnocchi Minestrone, last week a basic Chicken Noodle (kluski noodles), next week will be Lemony Wild Rice Butternut Squash Soup. 😋
I love soups in the fall and winter too! Those all sound great, off to look up kluski noodles…
Kluski are just Polish egg noodles, nothing fancy, easy to find in a supermarket. I grew up with them from my Polish heritage.
No alarm clock days are the best!
I know! When I woke up and looked at the clock I was like “whoa, I slept so late” That whole extra hour.😆
Autumn food:
Toulouse sausage casserole with Puy lentils.
Moussaka
Beef cooked in red wine
Oh god, I haven’t had moussaka in so long and now realize I need to correct that.
Diptyque probably doesn’t qualify as niche, although I think it used to: today I’m in 34 Blvd. St.-Germain, which is probably my favourite of their entire line because it’s supposed to smell like one of their stores, every scent all at once, and I do love those big complicated kitchen-sinky things. It’s a very spicy floral oriental with lots and lots of rose (one of the sure ways to my heart: I have three Diptyques and all of them are rose-heavy).
Lovely!
This is one of my favorites, too! And, FWIW, Diptyque def used to be considered niche. 😉
Good morning and TGIF!
Sotd is UNUM Io Non Ho Mani Che Mi Accarezzino il Volto.
I only slept for 4 hours but I am weirdly well rested. Let’s see how long I last.
Because it’s Friday, I treated myself a scoop of pistachio ice cream for breakfast. Mmm.
Yum, pistachio ice cream!
Great breakfast!
Your breakfast choice rules!
Not participating today in the CP
For Kanuka, if you are reading..
The Met was so busy yesterday. The Ancients in Color was great. I couldn’t get near the Tudor exhibit. Too many people. Finished reading my book in the Egyptian wing next to the water. The Arabic/Islamic wing is my favorite and I spend a lot of time there as well. Great day overall. Nice to see NYC tourism is back..
I am in Navitus Intimus for my SOTD
Pillow talk eyeshadow and also beautiful skin foundation
Have you tried the new Navitus Venom of Love?
No!
Have you?
I have two fb from this line 😍
I haven’t but it looks interesting to me.
I’m in Dame Chilehead, from a decant I got early this year. This is my first time to wear it, and I think it may be fbw. I’ll have to check the pricing. Green pepper is definitely in there, and seems to be the most obvious note at present. I’ll see what the drydown is like.
Chilehead is great. I burned through my sample decants and bought a bottle last year.
I love it, too. Spicy yet green. I have a full bottle ♥️
Hiya scent twin!
Wearing Andy Tauer Les Annees 25 BIS. It was released in 2019 and still kicking myself for not snapping up a bottle of the original Les Annees while I had a chance.
House twin!
I bought a mini, but it did not like me, so it got sold…
Wearing Bruno Fazzolari Ummagumma.
Very busy day at work. Back later to catch up on comments
Happy Friday! ☕️
You smell fabulous! I have a nearly finished bottle of Ummagumma I need to polish off asap so I can claim a thunk!
Thank you, Cazaubon!
My bottle is more than half full, so it is still a long way for me to thunk it!
I bet you smell fabulous, have not had the pleasure of sampling this yet.🌹
It is a gorgeous incense perfume with a very nice chocolate note. I am sure you would like it!
We are house twins!
Yay!
I should have clarified – house twins yesterday! 🤦🏻♀️
You smell yummagumma.
Thank you! 😀
Love this, SheriG! We heard it here first! Been wanting to sniff this one myself!
Twinsies! 😀
We smell fabulous, twin! 🌞
Love this one in cool weather. You are smelling great!
Thank you, Springpansy!
Pretty brave to wear Ummagumma on a warm day like this one!
Well, when I leave home in the morning to work and by the time that I leave the office in the evening the temps are in the low 50’s and we are always freezing in the office, so not really feeling the warm temps outside, unless I have to go out during the day, which I didn’t today. So, Ummagumma was very enjoyable today. 😉
I’m in Tauer’s Lonesome Rider. It was released in 2016, so only partial CP points.
This is one of those scents that just hits me in my heart, if that makes sense. It smells like my memories of camping in the foothills of the rockies in October/ November. I am so grateful that I bought a full bottle. Things here are rough for various reasons but this scent cocoon is soothing my soul today.
What a gorgeous memory! This makes me want to try the scent.
Sending you a warm Tauer hug in Au Coeur du Désert!
I love that one! Sending good thoughts your way.
Good to have a soothing scent for the soul.XO’s!!🤗🤗
Sending scented hugs!
Adding a hug 💙
Hurray for scent cocoons. Hope all gets better.
I love your description! Sending another soothing hug and good vibes your way. 🤗
Glad you have a scent cocoon and and foundational memories – stay strong, sistine!
It always amazes me when a perfume takes me on a trip to a different time and place.
Hugs.
Sorry things are tough <3 but so glad you have your nice scent cocoon 🙂
Sounds lovely. Hope things improve.
Not participating today–in Bruma, not on skin but still wafting robustly from yesterday’s fleece.
Spotted yesterday: a group of Halloween skeletons dressed up in Santa dresses (red felt or velvet with white furry trim, set up like a chorus line). Pretty sure it’s the first time I’ve seen a Halloween/Christmas mashup.
Kusmi’s offering an affordable advent calendar:
https://www.kusmitea.com/us/kusmi-tea-organic-advent-calendar-21723A2500.html
Wish I liked green tea, otherwise would probably order.
‘Tis the season to have advent calendars. The funniest one I saw was 12 Beers of Christmas, which a few breweries do now.
Oh I like the idea of those decorations!
Also just saw a tea advent calendar at Beautyhabit:
https://www.beautyhabit.com/collections/whats-new/products/provence-dantan-organic-duo-advent-calendar
I don’t know that brand though.
Good morning!
I’m wearing Vanille Havane (Les Indemodables) for the CP.
A quintessential fall scent in my opinion.
Great scent!
Taking CP points in another recent release from Maison Crivelli, Osmanthe Kodoshan. No dramatic ad copy for this one at fragrantica, but the house’s website does indulge half-heartedly in some: “Jade poles, bamboo bridges, wuthering mist. Mad meditation, leathery osmanthus, frankincense spirals. Peppery star anise, dark leaves, smoky patchouli. Floating mountains, ivory dawn, gold infinity.” It’s actually a very, very pretty floral so far, and (so far anyway) I don’t notice frankincense or any of the dark facets that LuckyScent’s write-up says are there (“tobacco leaf, oakmoss, and black tea intertwine to form a resinous, mineralic, and somewhat smoky swirl of matted grasses, twigs, and lichen”) … but one can hope for further development. If any of that shows up, this one may well join my little collection.
Lovely!
The Hibiscus one has become one of my favorites from the house.Unique and interesting!
Oh, good to know! LS has a travel spray of the hibiscus one as a GWP — I might need to take advantage of that!
I think you should!
Claiming a week’s worth of CP points since I participated all week but was too busy to post:
Monday: Tauer PHI
Tuesday: Rogue Flora and Fauna
Wednesday: Dame Mimosa Mixte
Thursday: Frassai Blondine
Friday: Papillon Hera
I feel grateful that I don’t swoon over Hera’a drydown as much as I do at its opening. Saves me the energy of longing for something I’ll never buy!
You had a wonderfully fragrant week!
Wearing Tauer Au Coeur du Désert, it is so warm and cozy. More grey skies, it’s a daily thing lately. We’ve even had some rain this week, including a rare thunderstorm. Still not really cold, but a bit cool in the mornings.
You smell fabulous!
You smell lovely! Wishing you blue skies 😊
Hope the sun will come back soon.
Sending you some of our sun! 🌞
Cazaubon, have you received/tried your sample of the new Profumum Freccia 1921 at Osswald? I love several Profumums. So curious about this one.
I did, but only gave it a brief try. It smelled nice but didn’t blow my socks off. Will give it another go.
Thanks for the info. It’s not inexpensive, so definitely should blow at least one sock off!
Hopefully you see the sun soon! 🌞🌞🌞
Good morning NSTers! I’m drinking my favorite coffee (Lopez Island Coffee Roasters Sumatra French Roast) and feeling very roasty myself in Naomi Goodsir Bois d’Ascèse.
But inspired by hajusuuri yesterday and for double CP points, I’m pivoting to Fzotic Lampblack in all of its inky, peppery glory.
Perfect autumn mix, allo!
Yum for the coffee. Lampblack was not for me, but you smell interesting and classy, as always.
Happy Friday, NST! I’m wearing Zoologist Bee because it came out in 2020, even though it’s usually a summer scent for me. Smells so good.
I like Bee a lot, but tend to like it better in the cooler months. I wore it earlier this week. It really does smell good.
It does smell great in cool weather! I’ll have to remember that.
Hi, Twin! We smell wonderful 😀
Why, yes we do 😊
Happy Friday!!
SOTD!
Wick Night Call.A wonderful ambery rose with a good dose of vetiver and patchouli.Seriously beautiful.
Wick was founded on October 19th 2019,starting out with candles, room sprays and ambiant wax melts at the Oranjezicht market in Cape Town.I’ve developed a great bond with the founder Lauren Graham and I am so so proud of this South African brand!
Quadruple points!Haha!
XO’s🌹❣️🤗
Yay! Sounds wonderful! I emailed them yesterday to find out more about stockists in the UK, and it sounds like they’re not quite set up there yet, and also won’t have the perfumes right out of the gate. But there’s time before December…
Or, you know, I just need to plan another trip back to South Africa, with more time for perfume shopping! 🙂
Well if you DO plan another SA trip we better meet up this time!Haha! So much to see and explore here, and I guess you saw that Africa is not that scary or untamed…
🤫🤣🤣🌹🤗
A points hat-trick!
Yay me!🥳🥳🤣🌹
Go you! Champion! Have a fab weekend over there.
Happy Weekend Kanuka!
🤗✌🏻🌺
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This makes me ridiculously happy,haha!🤭✌🏻😉
And it makes me ridiculously happy for you!😊
Night Call sure does sound beautiful! I hope you enjoyed wearing it.
CP points for me, I’m sampling Gallivant’s latest, Abu Dhabi. It’s fresh and leathery, not really my thing but well done.
I might switch to some Scents of Wood later, thanks to whoever mentioned the brand earlier this week!
I did not even know about it … so thank you, I will announce it!
Double points for me today in Arielle Shoshana Friday, which came out this year, I believe. Supposed to be 21 degrees here this afternoon, though the mornings are now chilly.
No! There’s a Friday?! Ok, rushing over now to look it up.
Extra points today wearing Imaginary Authors Fox in the Flowerbed that came out just last year.
Beautiful jasmine!
Kris, to answer your question from yesterday: to me, Earth Mother is a sweetish patchouli scent in an “Angel lite” vein. Not quite a fruitchouli though.
Thanks Jalapeno. Glad you saw that post to you. I did look it up on Fragrantica and noticed many compared it to Angel. I am pretty sure I tried it when I received a sample and liked it.
Oh well now I have to get a sample!
Rounding off the week in, yes, OJ Tiare. Supposed to be ca. 25C this weekend, so it fits as in with the fake-summer weather.
Go fake summer, I’ll take some!
Partial points for DSHPerfumes Lumiere (couldn’t find a year for release, but it’s been quite a few years). Dawn calls it “A spiced creamy coffee gourmand scent”. Definitely spiced and sometimes almost goes a bit medicinal. I wish my nose smelled more coffee, but I still enjoy it.
Today will be a cooking day. I’m making dinner for youngest son and wife–still sounds so funny to think he has a wife — wasn’t he just toddling around (and organizing us all) only yesterday?
Haha. My husband and I still feel ridiculous (after a little over a year of marriage!) when we think about the fact that I have a husband and he has a wife. What are we, grown-ups or something?!
Here’s a secret: I still feel that way sometimes after 25 years, and I guarantee my husband does too.
That’s very cute and nice to hear 🙂
I definitely feel that way when we do something majorly adult like buying a house. How can I do that? I’m just a kid.
Just finishing my sourdough toast and coffee. I tried the Maple coffee from TJ’s, but I’m not getting maple really. It’s good, a bit strong for me even though it’s labels a light roast. Gingerbread creamer so my tastebuds can feel all the fall vibes!
Moby threw his very first caniption fit yesterday. As I zoomed out of Petco with T-Rex’s increasingly expensive kibble a red light came up in the dash cluster and stayed lit. I drove to the nearest public park, no change noted in handling, etc. Looked up the error code and got everything from “meaningless” to “you will explode in 5, 4, 3,…” Yikes!
Had to call 4 different places to find someone to look at it. My appointment isn’t until Wednesday. Sheesh. Decided if it was going blow any time soon, I better be out of it, so took doggo for walkies. Came back, started it up, no warning light. Drove around the parking lot, no warning light. And have been driving ever since with no warning light.
Here’s my conundrum- I have 5 days off coming up next week and have ferry and camping reservations out on the San Juan Islands. Should I stay or should I go? If my van shuts down there, it will cost me an arm, a leg, and three teeth to have it towed to the electrical shop…but, since I’ve had zero error lights and the van is driving and sounding perfectly normal now, maybe I shouldn’t worry about unless the error code lights up again…? I’m asking for any and all opinions. Probably should put this to an auto forum, but you guys are multitalented and have good judgment and analytical abilities, so that’s why I’m asking for feed back.
Or you can just agree that I smell fab! 😁 Triplets today with hajusuuri and PL67, so I’m in the company of royalty! 👑
From what you’ve said it sounds electrical not mechanical. So the problem is whether it’s real electrical ( computer board) or dust has got into the display….my first suggestion would be to post on a RV a Facebook page and see what response you get from others with a Moby. I would also go to You Tube and see if anything useful comes up. I might also try ringing around the electric shops again, in case there is a cancellation and you can get in sooner. So annoying for you, arrrgh! If you were rich, you could drop Moby off early, hire a cheap camper van, go on holiday and come back to a repaired RV!
Yes, I didn’t go to YouTube and quickly learned a lot of people have had similar problems that were caused by anything from a loose/frayed wire in the engine (I didn’t see anything like that on mine when I popped the hood and pretended to know what I was doing!). Great suggestion and but I think I need to narrow down my search by make, model, and year.
As for your trees being out of synch, last fall I saw something similar: 4 large well established maple trees along a river, all approximately the same distance from the river and with equal exposure to the sun. 2 started changing colors and became brilliant scarlet while the other two remained green for about 7-10 days longer. Nature is mesmerizing and mysterious! 🌳
Did go*
I suggest looking on Reddit for a subreddit devoted to whatever make and model Moby is, and asking them for help. I can’t recall what Moby is or I’d ask Mr. G (who is very Reddit-savvy) to look it up for you. Redditors are amazingly helpful.
I’ve never been to Reddit or subreddit. I will have to explore those. My van is a 2017 Chevy Express 2500 EB, just in case your mister knows the answer off the top of his head. Thanks for your suggestion!
Didn’t see this until the Mr. had hit the hay. I’ll have him do a better hunt in the morning, but meanwhile I did a quick search and see that the subreddit r/MechanicAdvice gets a fair number of questions about the Chevy Express and those questions appear to get real, and helpful, answers. (There are other subreddits where people talk about their vans, but that seems to be more like NSTers talking about their fragrance collections and less like places to get help.)
Oh thanks! I will research this on Reddit. Thanks to you and your hubby, no need to bother you all with my issues. I’ve never been on Reddit. It might be another rabbit hole for me…😳
I’ll put in my .02–You have stayed on top of Moby’s regular maintenance and have not noticed any changes since the light went out. My car has scared the bejeezus out of me before when the “check engine” light came on, turned out that the gas cap was not tightened enough. I also nearly always forget to reset the tire pressure system after I add air and that lights up the “flat tire” light. So in your place I would think that if Moby is otherwise behaving well and the light doesn’t come back on, I could go to the islands and get checked on Wednesday.
And you do smell fab 🙂
This is how I’m leaning, exactly. It’s like Moby had a little hiccup, burped, and felt better! 😁
Can you take it to Auto Zone and have them hook up one of those monitor things to get you closer to the problem? It’s free no appointment needed.
Those things will give you an error code, but that code could mean a variety of different things. It’s a starting point, but not a finish line, if that makes sense. When I made the appointment at the HD Truck electrical place, the guy was super nice and asked me a lot of other questions about the van to try to narrow it down over the phone. I think my appointment was made for Wednesday because the “check engine” light never came on and the van is running as usual, so no emergency on their part. Dealerships have more accurate code readers and software, but they refused to make an appointment for me because they “don’t work on anything that big,” which is crazy since it’s a regular Chevy van like every plumber/electrician drives! I think their lift is probably not heavy duty enough to lift the weight of the van…? Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been inclined to get one of those code readers to carry with me because it can tell me more than I can figure out by lifting the hood and pretending!😉
Something similar happened with our 2013 Chevy Silverado in late summer. It sounds like it’s probably an emissions issue. Could be something as simple as a bad sensor.
Good suggestion! It hasn’t come back on again, so I’m hopeful it was just a fluke. I’m keeping my appointment on Wednesday but if it stays off, I may call the mechanic and see if he thinks I still need to bring it in. They seemed plenty busy and I don’t want to waste their time if it’s still really not an issue…
I am wearing Nishane Ani today. Not working so I went to Pharmacy to get one of the new Chanel lipsticks, using my points. Cooking and relaxing the rest of the day . I made some mediterranean salad with grilled vegetables and feta.
Smelling Good, your meal sounds delicious.
Seconding Aurora. Your dinner sounds yummy! 😋
I am wearing Rook Thurible and I think I will probably be able to find a way to match it to next week’s CP as well, rooks being quite enchanting birds. Our neighbour has four big silver birch trees planted along our shared drive. It’s fascinating to me that although the trees are spaced only ten metres apart the two at the top of the drive have been in full leaf for two weeks, whereas the one at the bottom is still entirely leaf-free, and wintery looking. I need to work out why. Same sunshine levels, same earth. Maybe the trees at the top of the slope draw on the most water? I keep a diary of “ natural” events ( like when I hear the first shining cuckoo of the year etc.) and has clearly pondered this before. The last birch usually gets leaves around 26 October, practically a month after the first. The blackbird chicks are all still alive, very quiet…not yet peeping.
I’ve noticed this here in Seattle with cherry trees all in a row blossoming at different times. I wonder if it could be just a slightly different variety of tree or some other subtle difference (slightly different amounts of water? soil?). Interesting to ponder.
I just got some samples from Rook. They are quite masculine and I am saving trials for a day off but intrigued by the selection. I am not sure if Thurible is one I got or not.
I get CP points this morning for wearing Orto Parisi Cuoium, released in 2021. Reviews talk about how animalic and beastly it is but I don’t find it so. I bought it at Fumerie when Cazaubon came to town, so good memories are associated with it.
Aww, I have good memories too! Still enjoying my Scents of Wood Cypress in Oak. When it runs out I will get the bigger bottle.
For today’s SOTD I chose one of Jeffrey Dame’s fragrances from his newer JD line, Vanille Farfelue. A big burst of aldehydes and the unusual addition of vanilla to give what feels like a vintage scent a modern twist. The soft florals and woody bottom notes add additional complexity to this lovely scent, and it lasts and lasts. All in all, I’m lovin’ it ❤️!
In recent years I’ve really enjoyed supporting musicians, authors and artists of all kinds (including perfumers) on a local level, talented individuals whom I’m able to meet in person, have a conversation with, and get to know on what may be a brief and fleeting yet more intimate level, (that includes Jeffrey when he’s visited Chicago), rather than a nameless, faceless entity. The book that was signed by my favorite author at a book signing, the CD signed by my favorite musician after his performance, all mean so much more to me than a Kindle book or streamed music ever could.
Looking forward tonight to an early evening virtual Yoga, Wine & Song program from our favorite folk musician followed by pizza afterwards and a Sunday afternoon in-person concert of jazz-tinged music performed by a saxophone quartet. Really looking forward to that!🎶
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!
Great choice! I’m a big fan of Jeffrey Dame and his JD line, including Vanille Farfelue. I reviewed it here, if you’re interested: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2019/11/25/scent-sample-sunday-jd-vanille-farfelue/. You smell great! And I hope your evening is equally great.
I really enjoyed your review, 🙏!
Loved your review ❤️
Hiya house twin!
👋
Smoothie is pear, apple, strawberries and yogurt
For the CP I rummaged through samples and chose Sana Jardin Tiger by her side. The rose note is beautiful but fades to a run of the mill amber drydown.
Tonight I’m in Fragonard Grain de Soleil, in spite of its name it’s rather a fall, resinous scent.
Good to know about Grain de Soliel. I always thought it would be a sunscreen type perfume from the name.
They definitely got the name wrong, but the scent itself is really good.
For the CP Zoologist Bee, a delight from the last Splitmeet. I love it, and Mr. Mossy did too. When I told him the name, he added Oh I do smell wax and bees. So that was nice, because of all the perfumes I’ve let him sniff the only others that he gave favorable attention to so far are Avon’s Timeless and SJP Stash. He likes perfume overall though, with the notable exception of indolic jasmines.
I love Bee too. You smell wonderful!
For the CP I’m wearing Raw Gold by Thomas de Monaco from 2020, I think, even though Luckyscent has it as 2022. It’s from a sample and even though it wears beautifully, I don’t think I’ll shell out $300 for a 50ml bottle.
We’re looking at a smoky weekend with really warm temps for October. I had to skip my after work walk yesterday because of unhealthy air quality and am feeling beyond over the smoke, as I know everyone else around here (and those even closer to the fire) is.
I am your twin. This is by far the best thing I’ve tried in the past few years–I adore it and have from the first moment I tried it. It goes on with a strong draft of rum and plum (love the sound of that), and something slightly sour, maybe hints of our, then develops some florals and leather, and just gets more and more gorgeous and amber-tonka as it dries down. Like you, I find the price prohibitive; maybe me can arrange a split or share? I’m not very good at making decants and mailing, but would be happy to pay for half of what it takes…. if you are interested please let me know. Meanwhile, enjoy! I understand it’s a scarce resource.
Hints of “oud”, of course; spellcheck never likes that word.
Ahh beautiful description. I don’t think I’m up for hosting a split at the moment and really probably only need 5-10ml even though I like it very much. Maybe our girl hajusuuri should give it a try. I feel like it’s up her alley too. 😀
Not nouveau, but definitely indie: SOTD is Futur, by Robert Piguet. Love, love, love! It’s very green.
Seems like Piguet is overdue for a new release…
Sunny and gorgeous day here. I wouldn’t mind a week or two of this weather but I know that there is some rain in the forecast for the next 7 days. Wish that some of it would go to the parched West.
SOTD = Dame Chilehead EdP, from the sample stash and one of you awesome NSTers. I get something that strongly reminds me of wood shop class, and roasted poblano peppers. And a hint of furniture polish in the beginning. But it was hard for me to restrain from spraying on BFMV again today. Definitely getting at least another sample of it from Dame Perfumes.
It’s always interesting to me how differently we perceive scents. On me Chilihead is spicy yet green. I love BFMV; it was the first Dame fragrance I bought a FB of when it first came out, and it’s going quickly!
Also getting green and spicy, but not a fresh green and spicy. It’s more culinary to my nose.
Chilihead was too masculine for me.
I will be stuck in the occasional rain showers too for awhile.
This is definitely an odd one for me.
I am wearing an older indie scent from 4160 Tuesdays – Lady Rose Lion etc. At first try i did not like it much, but now it seems to grow on me. Had colleague of. my boyfriend over for wine tastining and dinner, so we had a nice evening. Hope my headache will be small tomorrow, we sampled 6 different bottles!
Sounds like a fun evening!
definitely hit the indie brief – sotd: sfumato Mocha Valentine
I smell like I bathed in coffee ☕️
Oh yum!
I’m in Dame Perfumery Soliflore Honeysuckle.
It’s been another busy day at work, and it’s cool and cloudy here.
I bet Dame’s Honeysuckle is wonderful. That is one I have not tried.
It is a very beautiful scent!
Another house twin for me today! Whoo hoo!
Wearing Juniperus from Fiele. I should wear this more often. Reminds me of the west, a dry sort of green.
I am enjoying all the posts about niche fragrances I have never tried, will be looking them up.
Gosh, and I had forgotten about Fiele altogether. Have a bunch of those samples somewhere, I should find them.
SOTD = Jorum Studio Trimerous
Jorum Studio launched its first set of perfumes in 2019 so extra extra points for moi! At its heart, this is an iris-violet scent and is one of my favorites!

Random occurrences in NYC (just today):
– woman lugging a suitcase and who looked clearly lost at 7AM-ish. She asked which direction is Madison Avenue. I pointed east (she was near Macy’s). She did not believe me. Her loss and she will get lost again.
– a guy wearing a messenger bag clearly stealing a cutting from one of the giant pots of plants at Bryant Park. He thought he was being clever but it was very obvious when you have a euphoric look once the plant separated from where it should have stayed.
– At Penn Station going home, my train was cancelled but there was another one within 15 minutes that was going to make my stop. Fine. Of course the waiting area got crowded. This person of a certain age decided to stand in front of me and had each each hand on her waist and she kept flapping them – maybe it’s to make sure no one gets near her. As soon as the track was announced, no one moved faster than her to get to the escalator to descend into the track! I don’t know whether or not to applaud her but she clearly had some commuting miles under her belt!
Trimerous is a beauty 🙂
Did not to make this a separate post.
The adventures in NYC that you have are fun to read.
Looking forward to trying this scent. I think it is one I will be needing to add to my collection. I have been on a rose and iris kick lately.
Why do people ask for directions or advice and then disregard it? I don’t understand that at all. 🤷♀️🤦♀️
